there are few things as disappointing as booting up a game and realizing you've spent your money on absolute garbage now you've got a broken heart as well as a broken bank account because I'm SCI for whatculture.com and here are 10 what the f did I just pay for video games number 10 Star Wars Jedi Survivor is it too much to ask for a AAA game to run a reliable 60 frames a second in this day and age is it really too much it's not wrong to expect a certain level of quality when picking up a Star Wars game the Perpetual Cash Cow created by George Lucas has no excuse for poor quality given its vast wealth and Prestige and that's what makes it all the more frustrating when you buy something that's not up to scratch Jedi Survivor is at its core a great game in fact as of right now you can pick it up and be pretty happy with it due to the latest patches however the same can't be said for that dark time not in a galaxy far far away when the game first release in an unfinished State playing this game was Aiden nightmare as the poor frame rate issues LED to it running like a stuttering car engine this was a disastrous error considering the game's Reliance on frame perfect soulslike combat when you're shelling out the money for a AAA release then you expect the quality of a AAA release that goes double for a property owned by the house of mouse number nine WWE 2k2 WWE's annual video game releases were a steady staple of the wrestling world and a perfect crossover for those who love a good bit of wrestling and gaming however the pressures are producing a high quality game every year since 2014 eventually got to 2K Games as their 2019 release of WWE 2k2 became a laughing stop this title was an absolute travesty with barely anything worth praising it was even a genuine downgrade from its predecessor with more technical issues than Triple H just had championships the character models were broken the targeting was unreliable the physics were all over the place the graphics were outdated and the online play was Dire plus outside of the technical issues the game was also just kind of lackluster with a terrible my career mode sluggish gameplay and an awful new control scheme WWE 2k2 is one of the worst wrestling games ever made and those who shelled out their money for it felt like they' been hit with a tombstone pile driver the company even went so far as to cancel 2K 21 pushing out a rudimentary arcade game WWE 2K Battlegrounds instead and not returning to the mainline series until 2022 number eight Ultima 9 Ascension the Ultima series might not have the same Mass Appeal as properties like the Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy but there was a time when it was arguably the best western RPG series on the market sadly rather than going out in a blaze of glory it died like a damp firecracker as the ninth and final installment was the worst of the bunch the collective reaction to this game was that it was entirely unfinished ugly as hell and full of bugs you also needed the strongest of PC Hardware just to run it as if the game's broken State wasn't bad enough it also actively ignored and contradicted law continuity from the previous titles and that's like slapping longtime play in the face tragically in a sentiment that's all too familiar for modern Gamers the villain in this story and culprit of the game's failure was the dreaded Electronic Arts EA infamously breathed down origin systems necks throughout the production of Ascension cutting their development time forcing them to work with an unfamiliar engine and pressuring them into releasing the game Half Baked loyal players who picked up this game wasted their money on the last installment of a once beloved franchise number seven recall Reco came along in 2016 with a promise of being an Xbox One Smash Hit how did that go well it wouldn't be on this list if it pulled it off the names involved in this game should have been enough to make something worthwhile a story written by Halo's Joseph ston Concepts from kg inafune the co-creator of Mega Man the Metroid Prime series director Mark bini at the helm come on it's all too good to be true and sadly that was the case as this acclaimed team's efforts were not enough to save this Xbox One title from a broken launch RoR arrived with a boatload of issues with one of the worst being its tendency to crash unexpectedly was also plagued with lengthy loading screens that push you into long bouts of inactivity testing your patience and tanking the game's pacing if you managed to push past those issues you were rewarded with uninspired level design tedious gameplay and excessive grinding hooray The Definitive Edition released a year later did fix a lot of these problems but for many it was too little too late everyone who shelled out for what they thought would be the start of something special soon felt like they've been played for fools number six Lords of the Fallen 2023 if you've ever played Dark Souls you've pretty much played Lords of the Fallen by sheer Association even if you've never touched the game the original 2014 Lords of the Fallen was one of the first entries into the soulslike genre and it took its job as a clone very seriously since then the market for fromsoft style knockoffs has grown and so the franchise has returned to capitalize with a successor SL soft reboot unfortunately it's Bountiful Tech problem ruin all of its potential the Revival's constant slowdowns and stuttering frame rate issues destroy what could otherwise be a fun Souls like on top of that you probably won't even get to play it for that long before experiencing your first crash with plenty of players losing progress as a result these issues are a death nail for any game like this that requires precision and lacks regular checkpoints thankfully the game got a big patch eventually with the next one likely already out by the time that you're hearing this and these seem to have made significant improvements but like with Jedi surviv it's fair to want a game released in this era to launch without such problematic technical issues and gaming moves so quick that it's very easy to be forgotten Lords of the what now number five Fallout 76 ah Bethesda and bugs it's a tale as old as time this monolithic developer is responsible for some of the most influential role playing games the industry has ever seen however there's also this lurking sense that something is wrong with Bethesda as even their best titles are full of gamebreaking glitches dodgy character animations and more and while players can forgive this in most of their games there was no such patience for Fallout 76 which was so broken it destroyed faith in the franchise almost overnight there was so much wrong with Fallout 76 upon its release that it's filled up several lists at this point by itself the title was jam-packed with bugs including poorly loading textures invisible enemies terrible frame rate issues game crashes and plenty else making all of this worse was the fact that it also came loaded with microtransactions and pay to win incentives plus the core title wasn't really all that interesting as the quests were uninspired and the gameplay was kind of dull the title is in a much better State now with all of its post-release content but there was a time where spending money on this game was a kinu burning your wallet with a flamer number four ride to Hell retribution ride to Hell retribution is a game so universally panned you could cook pasta in it anyone unlucky enough to have spent money on This Disaster is probably still kicking themselves over it these 10 years later wrer hell spent literal years in development hell after being announced in 20 2008 and when it hit the scene in 2013 it did so with all the pump and Circumstance of a trip to rehab the graphics were terrible with a capital T and it was so full of broken mechanics you couldn't help but laugh at it however the tedious gameplay was far less amusing as it was so boring it felt like a chore poor writing terrible Tech unresponsive controls you name it this game has it it would also be remiss not to mention all those horrendous sex scenes the game's bizarre Reliance on Awkward sex appeal screamed of a desperate desire to attract thirsty teenage boys you wouldn't want your mom to walk in on this one especially because you would have realized that you spent money on ride to Hell retribution you idiot number three Sonic Boom rise of lyric the motto of the Sonic franchise might be got to go fast but perhaps Sega should consider changing it to don't get your hopes up it's a long established truth that most Sonic the Hedgehog games are crushing let Downs with that in mind calling this game one of the worst entries in the series should convey just how bad it is this Wii U exclusive is a 3D action adventure platform are so full of technical issues and poor design choices that it gives Sonic 06 a run for its money you think Sega would have at least learned their lesson but apparently not here's a breakdown of some of the game's worst issues it's entirely unpolished the camera system is unpredictable it's riddled with bugs and glitches the combat is dull and repetitive the controls are unresponsive and overall it was released fundamentally broken thankfully the game didn't actually ship too many units ranking as one of the worst selling entries in the franchise that isn't great for Sega but at least cushioned the blow to Consumer wallets the next time someone complains about Sonic Frontiers which is a perfectly fine game remind them that things can always be much much much much much much much much much worse number two the Lord of the Rings Gollum golum wasn't a game that anyone really asked for but plenty still thought could be fun as the Lord of the Rings IP is one folks still expect a lot from but then it arrived after 18 months of delays and oh boy people were more disappointed than denior at faramir's birthday party this game is about as clean as polished as golum himself with so many glaring flaws it's almost unplayable the Dreadful user interface and countless glitches are abysmal making the game appear entirely unfinished despite releasing over a year later than promised not only is the game buggy and broken but it's also simply put boring there's little to do the gameplay isn't Fun The Narrative is subpar at best and the visuals are blander than porridge unfortunately IGN reported that dck and Nikon the developer and publisher had mistreated their staff enforcing unpaid overtime paying below minimum wage and creating a toxic work environment so if you want to point the finger at someone you can do it at them on release it was unanimously decided this would be the worst game of 2023 and oh look what's that coming over the hill is it a monster is it a monster number one Skull Island rise of Kong just look at this if you've been on the internet for more than a few minutes in the last couple of months you won't be surprised to see This Disaster of a game on this list the King Kong IP may be a media Titan but this game proves that the bigger they are the harder they fall Skull Island rise of Kong is an action adventure game that tells the origin story of the legendary King Kong however it treats the character with all the prestige of a cheap mascot at a kid's birthday party the visuals are diabolical and would look terrible even if the game came out a decade ago additionally it's a buggy mess full of tedious gameplay awful animations and cut scenes riddled with technical errors overall the game is a legitimate embarrassment and anyone who paid money for it must feel like climbing the Empire State Building in a fit of rage right now sadly like dolem this was another game plagued with a monstrous production as per The Verge the game's Publishers game Mill entertainment forced the developers into a one-year turnaround even the strongest team in the world would struggle to crank out a good game in that time frame so pour one out for the poor star at Iguana B Studios and anyone else that had to work with game entertainment I'm looking at you team Behind The Walking Dead Destinies if you've played any of these games you probably would have preferred if they had never been made at all and speaking of here's a video on screen now for nine video game ideas we're glad got cancelled don't forget to like this video leave a comment Down Below on terrible games that you spend money on I'm so sorry I've been SCI for what culture and have a good week
