if you can there's no real way around it you're gonna be on trains you can't really walk I mean technically it could [Music] hello everybody is the water price again hi this is Rio I'm Chris and we're going to talk about Japanese strains and we got together some helpful tips for you guys to use Japanese strains in an effective way so that you get to wherever you want to get to all right let's begin number one avoid riding the train during rush hour this may be a little bit difficult but if you know the specific times that it would most likely be crowded then you can definitely avoid those times from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the morning from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the afternoon and of course in any day 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. the last train because the trains in Japan stopped running for the night if you're only visiting Japan then you probably don't have to go and you are doing these hours so it's best to avoid trains are really really crowded them and it's submitted unpleasant to write them another thing to keep in mind when using the train during rush hour is that it's gonna be really difficult and bothersome for you and everybody else if you carry any big bags with you or suitcases if you have something big to carry around be double careful about not taking the rush-hour train the next tip is give your seat to an elderly or pregnant women or even children you know to children yeah you don't really give them seats to kids and work around from babies well maybe zle like a woman with with a kid or a madam with a kid for that matter like whenever there's a really small baby enhanced and sure but not like it's cool-kid I like juicy I like it more than alder okay hey Mike yeah so this is just a simple thing I think like it's just common decency sometimes I give ya your seat and especially because like you're not gonna ride the train for that long time it's not like you're gonna get so tired and with elderly or pregnant women people women tell me women they get pregnant Chris there's usually a designated section when they have priority that's on the front of the of the cart if it's labeled as one general you're not supposed to sit in there what I find charming about Japan and being a foreigner in Japan if people make an extra effort to make you sit next to your friend if there's to a few they would change their seating so that you you sit next to each other that's very nice view and people do that a lot in Japan okay so this is another kind of like an end of the Train in fact same as the priority seat but basically in the corners very corners of every train there's usually a space for baby cards and wheelchairs and those are the kind of spaces that you go in and you're like oh wow that's this free space with no door right behind it so you want to put your suitcase there when you're heading from this Airport but you want to try to avoid this especially during rush hour when everyone's crowded and there's like a person in a wheelchair trying to move and I feel like this is just some kind of tip that you can really need to know because they don't really label this kind of stuff on every platform you can find this pretty cool diagram that shows you specific train cars and which one you're supposed to get on so that the transit that you're trying to take is going to be the fastest so it's really easy to see that for example if you're switching from Yamanote line to handsome online you're supposed to be in car number three if you're switching and should we have for example and I think you should definitely do this when you're heading from the airport to your station there's in every station there's like one corner or like one car that has right there you get out and there's an elevator and I think you should definitely do this yeah yeah you should never take more than one person's amount of space when you sit down I think foreigners are often guilty of occupying my space I mean maybe you don't feel like you should say it's all good even if you have a backpack or some kind of suitcase I don't know you're supposed to just take one person sitting and kind of put these things stack them on top of yourself just do whatever you can to not go not cross the lines behind your seat in the next scene and this is gonna be weird to say it out loud but I think this is one of the reasons Japanese people don't like sitting next to foreigners because they they sometimes don't I separating he probably doesn't know how to behave so he's gonna be like poking me you know I might be wrong but I think I'm Japanese I see actual Japanese people especially old women and I don't want to single people out but a lot of them usually have shopping bags and they don't care a lot of time and have them next mm-hmm is usually on the priority scene hmm dress the kind of stuff it's supposed to make an effort no nobody's expecting you to do some impossible Tetris like puzzle you cannot drink or eat on the train I think nobody will care too much unless you're eating Indian curry on the floor during rush hour maybe that might be too much well it's it's about the smell it's about the risk of for example spilling a drink um somebody once when you're drinking like Starbucks coffee on your train sometimes you can spill on people and that would be real bother for everybody in this situation so um Oh sometimes you see an old man holding a socket it's a dance so yes Japanese that really protects you either it's kind of funny when you first arrive in Japan because then you see these vending machines with drinks everywhere and you get a drink just before you hop on a train yeah what am I supposed to do in my drink I just got it that is a really good point yeah reading books magazines or newspapers on the train this is especially in a crowded train this must be emphasized a thing I personally have a really big pet peeve about like newspapers mm-hmm but they're really dirty like they're just ash and murder it's so dirty and it's usually when you're sitting down and the guy next year is going like that and it is like halfway on your faces when it's a crowded train situation everybody's kind of like trying to fight for their personal space but also everybody's kind of pretending they're not there everybody's so absent-minded yeah like I'm the founder train and they're just like pushing against each other but not acknowledging the facts and nobody would ever say sorry yeah the example right it's a weird surge a crowded Japanese train every year there's more and more warning signs about being careful when you're using it or phone I think the biggest problem was when Pokemon go was the thing that was crazy what what is happening here I in trains in parks everywhere people who are just like walking under cars because of Pokemon go yeah there's this gym I go to that still has a sign by the elevator there's the sign please do not play pokemon go in disability Pokemon go left it smart I'm Japan very huge if you get lost in a huge station such as Tokyo Station Ueno station these are really big in Shinjuku for example you should always look up for signs I'm not really sure if this is just something that I had personally but a lot of my friends didn't really see that they're like wow how do you go to the east exit and they're like oh oh if you get lost and they're very confused you should ask a station employee for help and they'll be happy to help you even if they struggle with English they're gonna do their best to help you it's better to avoid asking other passengers for help for different reasons Japanese people are very helpful and they're gonna go out of their way to help you but it's gonna be kind of a problem for them because you can you're kind of taking them away from what they're ready they're doing yeah you want to they don't they wouldn't just want to abandon you lost in the Wild West of the Japanese train station but it's but it's just better to ask an employee yeah I mean that's what they get paid for there's rain to do these things for you so yes if you're visiting Japan and you're gonna be here for about a week or more you should get yourself a train pass which is a sweet cup or a possible hey suika means watermelon but yes the more you know this is not going to get you any discounts but it's just much more convenient when you're going through a case you can just click it to the gate yeah and it determines the price automatically because if you don't get it then you have to calculate the price of the of the distance this is gonna save you maybe up to 20 minutes every single day I think it has a 500 yen deposit but you'll get it back when you when you when you're done with the card you just go to the station you say I'm done with a male baby about a 500 - I think like some tax fees or something like that good that's it and then when you have it you just charge it with money however much you want and anything that you don't spend you can just cash out so this order also works as a payment method for some vending machines and stuff so it's very very very useful the final point is always always know which exit is closest to your destination if you're in a shinjuku station for example yeah and you take the wrong exit you might be walking like if you're kilometres extra I mean should you go station is an extreme example because it's one of the biggest ones but still the passage through the station is usually the quickest and the shortest route yeah I supposed to be going around it if you can't get a specific exit then at least get the directional right so like used one of the east ones west once north-south just go in Google Maps and you zoom in as much as you possibly can it will just say a vibration or just use Google Maps it's super efficient in Japan it's got all the latest train times if the trains are delayed its updated basically live it's good live updates yeah and it's gonna get you the most optimal route every single time good bill is smart you just gotta trust I think every time I try to outsmart Google Maps by saying oh this is I'm just gonna I'm just gonna go with my gut feeling I was wrong a hundred percent of the time yeah [Music] [Music] so please trust Google Maps yeah and enjoy your Japanese strains because they're very nice they there's some rules you have to go by but despite that it's a pleasure to be on Japanese trains alright thank you very much hope you learned a lot today please like this video if you found it helpful and subscribe to our channel bye
