hi there and welcome to Lux - my name is Adina today we're going to be talking about your spending habits and things that you can cut out today to start saving more money so I came across this article that talked about how on average Americans spend around eighteen thousand dollars on just non-essential things and that if they cut these things out they could end up saving about $18,000 so this is the list of items that the article showed is what Americans spend the most money on and I'm going to review some of these today because there are things that I've stopped purchasing and hopefully my story can help you guys as well either save more money or become a better minimalist make sure to give a thumbs up to this video for the YouTube algorithm and help this SMO you to grow and subscribe and hit that or new videos every Wednesday so we can hang out together all right let's get all right number one on my list is fast fashion slash trendy clothes for me it's about finding my style and over time I'm sure that you will also come to number to sell if you haven't ready I would just advise against buying the latest trends shopping up zara H&M for bikini one she and pretty little things you know what I'm talking about cuz all thing guilty of doing it myself included but absolutely cut myself off and now I really focus in on buying something that I know fits my style not with all my other friends okay number two drinks you guys I do not buy drinks out anymore whether it's coffee a smoothie just a nice strawberry drink from Starbucks cut it out and you will save so much more money you can just get the ingredients at the grocery store and make it yourself at home okay moving on to number three takeout for me it's all about eating at home cooking your own meals controlling what goes into them now this of course isn't the case for everyone and I'm only talking about my own personal experience and for me it makes a lot more sense to just make my own meals instead of buying dinner this also goes along with the fact that I make my lunch I don't buy lunch every day at work I think this also adds up and if you've seen my how to save money video this is one of my key takeaways being able to meal brought and save that money of like 10 to 18 dollars a day on lunch really adds up okay mine excellent is the subscription boxes so this like blew up everywhere and everyone's getting subscription boxes sent to their house for jewelry perfumes clothes shoes like so for some people this is great right the convenience of having it brought to you if you don't have time to do it and that's huge but for me I've actually probably never signed up for any of those subscription boxes because I just don't see the value so definitely cut out subscription boxes if you have a lot really consider the ones that are actually useful and the ones that are actually just giving you more clutter or convincing you to purchase something you don't really need in line with subscription subscription streaming right neck flicks your HBO your Disney your Spotify they're everywhere and they can sin your life and they creep up on you and before you know it you're subscribed like 10 different platforms playing or ninety-nine a month and that really adds up so I would say that if you have subscriptions to really really wait how often you use each of them are you using them on a daily weekly basis monthly quarterly maybe you should cut it out use discounts if you're a student there's a lot of like bundle packages you can sign up for free trials all your roommates live in wood house get a Netflix family plan get a Spotify family plan let it amongst yourselves and you're saving so much fun then of course we're all guilty of using our friends account that they forgot to log out of on our computer so my next one is latest tech so I'm about to turn 25 and so far in my life I've had two cell phones my first cell phone ever I received when I went to college of the iPhone 5 the second one was an extra day working and it is the iPhone X for me it's not about having the latest technology it's about having a thing that I know I'll be able to take care of and it will last me through the years in order to really make up for the investment of the money I put into it alright next on my list is handbags I feel like as a girl you slowly accumulate a lot of handbags throughout the years and that's when I started to notice a few years ago and I started to set rules against myself of when I could purchase another handbag where it's like something that I had to spend like a few months really being obsessed with and knowing that I could use it in style at many different ways and it's not one of those like statement pieces that I'd wear once a year but it's something that I would really get use out of and really truly bought if you have those weak points really figure out ways to set a structure for yourself and limit your spending when it comes to those things okay next we have watches I know a lot of people that have several watches like 5 to 10 or even more for me I own one watch I've had it for about 7 or more years and it served me so well it goes with every outfit I wear I absolutely love and adore it and it's all I need so if you find a watch that really complements your style well then I think you're solid I don't think you need 12 more so on the theme of accessories I also keep my jewelry very simple as I said try and buy high-quality pieces instead of just buying cheap jewelry which I used to do I used to get like H&M earrings and forever 21 Zara whatever statement necklace I could find and then I came to realize I had a closet full of jewelry I stopped wearing because it either started to just look bad or fall apart and it was getting to the point where I was ridiculous so I stopped buying cheap jewelry and of course this can become expensive but there are other brands out there that offer you more affordable quality pieces like Murie and Ana Luisa and if you go out there and search they're out there and they can provide you that great balance between quality and affordability and another thing that I stopped buying is cleaning supplies at home so I read this book it's called new minimalism decluttering and design for sustainable intentional living and I really recommend you guys check this book out I'm not sponsored or anything it's just generally a really cool book that talks about what new minimalism is and it's not about just getting rid of everything that you own it's about surrounding yourself with things that are intentionally placed there because they bring you happiness because they have a meaning in your life not just because you are collecting and consuming so this book is really great please check it out and then here it talks about cleaning supplies and creating your own at home cleaning services that can be used for all your services so that you don't go out and buy an individual cleaner for a specific surface my last point for you guys impulse items so when you're at the grocery store and you're having a moment you're having a craving and you just start throwing things into your car figure out ways to really stay focused on what you're there to get and not be tempted to impulse buy or me I go in with the list and I've come up exactly with what I went in there with and this helps loosen the temptation and buy that coconut ice cream I told myself I ordered I that's it guys and one more bonus one sales don't buy them I don't do Black Friday anymore I don't do Cyber Monday I feel like that's and they get rid of their low-quality whatever is left in inventory and you're kind of being cheated out of an actual good item there was a sale and it ends up i'm way more than I normally would have and it felt like it's just a mind trick to get you to buy more alright guys and that's it again these are all just about my life they might not all apply to your life but hopefully there is one or two things you can take from this video apply to your own life to help you become just a better human being because your being more vanilla and not consuming as much but overall saving money in your pocket that you can then use to other things in life like pay off your loans travel the world and enjoy your life make sure to hit that subscribe button to stay tuned to new videos every Wednesday with that notified and of course hit thumbs up if you found this video to be useful and I will see you next time Lux mines bye [Music]
