10 Things Auston Matthews Can't Live Without | GQ Sports

another essential for me is uh my deodorant it's dove i'm pretty sure it's a woman's as well and i've been using this for like five six years now i can't stop i think it smells pretty nice it's a little embarrassing too but don't fix what's not broken what's up gq i'm austin matthews and these are my essentials [Music] my first item my iphone pods take it with me wherever i go gym walking my dog grocery store can uh just strap those things in and just kind of be on your way and be in your own little world pregame i listen to mostly rap music i like drake young thug little baby gunna kind of top four guys i guess that i listened to and plenty more but for the most part i pretty much just listened to rap for pre-game stuff my next essential is my hockey stick i use this pretty much every day it's what i do it's what i love so this is my stick ccm uh my name bar says poppy34 it's kind of my my nickname growing up i use this every day kind of have to pretty essential for me growing up in southern california and then arizona how does a kid like that get into hockey my uncle actually had season tickets to coyotes games and my dad would just kind of tag along with him when i was probably two or three years old that's kind of where i first saw the game of hockey and i guess i just kind of immediately wanted to play that's kind of where it all started but you know neither my parents or family members grew up playing hockey it was mostly just baseball basketball and in other sports like that so you're the only person in my i guess my family that grew up playing hockey so some of my cousins started skating and i think it's pretty amazing next essential my sneakers my air force ones probably my favorite shoe these are my three favorite ones uh the cactus pack a couple off white ones always like nike i've always liked air force ones they kind of go with everything and uh just a pretty simple clean shoe how big is your sneaker collection uh it's pretty big i feel like i kind of split half half my shoes here half my shoes in toronto i think if i kind of compiled all of them into one i'd need a lot of space for it so it's definitely growing too i've always kind of been into jewelry and then i guess when i started playing the nhl uh a lot of guys that i played with had pretty nice watch collections so kind of got into it this is my favorite one uh it's the gmt master ii pepsi edition pretty clean watch goes with uh you know anything you can wear with a soup or with a t-shirt which of your teammates has the craziest watch collection it'd have to be patrick marlow maybe he's been playing nhl for 20 plus years now so i played with him for a year and we got really close so i've seen his collections of everything but he's got some really nice watches in there [Music] this is my body pillow i can't really sleep without it i have one here i have one in toronto and then usually when we're on the road uh i'll call down and get a couple extra pillows but i can't really sleep unless i have something in between my legs and arms so it's kind of a perfect fit and yeah i usually sleep like a baby so pretty essential for uh for my day-to-day life the next one my golf clubs so my offseason when i'm not playing a lot of hockey i played quite a bit of golf i stamped it with my initials and number there i've been playing probably for five six years now i'm not very good but i have a lot of fun out there my sister actually plays and she's a d1 uh golf golf player so i try to learn as much as i can from her but i haven't been here too many times so it kind of ruins my confidence started playing honestly because uh i needed something to do in the off season i used to play hockey like year round so i needed to kind of take a little bit of a break and find a different hobby so i started playing uh playing golf and a little bit of tennis lately too but for the most part it's golf for me the next one uh would be my slides these are probably my three favorite ones so these are dior's nikes uh and hug uh in the summer this is pretty much all i wear is a short t-shirt and and socks and slides um i like to keep it pretty casual and stay comfortable i like to mix it up too these are kind of funky but i mean they're fun to wear skates aren't exactly super comfortable uh especially when you wear them for long periods of time but yeah i mean in the summer pretty much just for slides and uh air force one that's pretty much it xbox uh nintendo switch i like to play video games i kind of go through phases where all i do is play video games and i'll take a couple months off these are the two uh consoles i probably use the most i'll pretty much just play anything uh nhl call of duty fortnite then on the switch anything from mario party to super mega baseball which is actually uh our team's favorite game to play on the road that's quite addicting but it's a fun game to pass time and then another essential for me is my deodorant it's dove i'm pretty sure it's women's as well i was a big old spice guy and then yeah i don't even know how i got into this um i think i just wanted to find something like a spray and i was in the men's section and they only had like the sticks and i've been using this for like five six years now and i can't stop i think it smells pretty nice um it's pretty refreshing and it's a little embarrassing too but i don't fix what's not broken so my last essential would be my dog fortunately he's not here his name's felix he's actually away an obedient school so i don't get him back for for another week or so but i do miss him a lot and he brightens up my day every day even when he poops in my house or disobeys me so probably a good thing he's uh he's learning to obey a little bit but Wow, that’s pretty awesome. MH is a Canadian company too, so I’m sure they would love to hear this even though they are located on the west coast and prob root hard against the leafs.
