hey guys how we doing it's January 2024 which means there's no better time to look at my most anticipated movies of 2024 so let's get right into [Music] it megalopolis directed by Francis Ford Copa of course a legendary filmmaker needs absolutely no introduction and that's why I'm so very excited to see this film because this is just Francis Ford Couer putting in more than $120 million supposedly into this gigantic film with just this loaded cost and sometimes I think that when films boast these loaded costs a film like Amsterdam for example it kind of just fails miserably and feels more like it's just trying to distract us from how bad the movie actually really is but the thing is I have every bit of faith in me that Fran for Copler can give us something very a inspiring and something very deserving of its gigantic [Music] cast Spaceman starring Adam Sandler when this film was first announced I was so excited already I mean who doesn't want to watch a movie about Adam Sandler in space come on this just cool besides I think I think movies like punch drunk love have sort of really helped me understand that Adam Sandler even in his worst films is quite committed to his roles despite the fact that I don't think he's always the funniest guy you know movies like Jack and Jill or Little Nikki like it's not funny but the thing is he's at least committed to a character and he doesn't let off he's very convincing as a lot of his characters the only role that I didn't like Adam Sandler necessarily was grown-ups because as much as I would argue it's more entertaining than the movie like little Nikki at the same time Adam Sandler is just a bumbling idiot he's just got nothing to do but there's something really unique and wonderful about Adam Sandler and these more serious roles it seems that the filmmakers really do take him very serious seriously and I think uncut gems has helped people realize that Adam Sandler is quite an incredible serious actor and a character like Barry from Punch Drunk Love or the dude from uncut gems I'm sorry I forgot his name this is just ultimate proof that he has quite a lot of range and is a fantastic character actor as if his other movies weren't good enough as proof so yeah very excited for this film and I'll 100% be catching it on the biggest screen I can possibly see it [Music] on Alex Garland's Civil War this is the fourth feature film from Alex Garland who previously directed ex makina men and Annihilation I haven't actually seen Annihilation I do very much intend on checking it out men and X makina are two very conceptually interesting films exmachina being one of my absolute favorite a24 films and just being an incredible and impressive directorial debut even men despite the fact that in a lot of ways it does fall short of its concept it definitely does have a lot of longevity it is a film that I remembered and I was thinking about for quite a while and it is quite a fascinating film conceptually and how it executes shots those Concepts through a very atmospheric story I can't wait to see this film I genuinely had no idea that Alex garland would be making such a massive film on a political and just film making scale when you look at this trailer it doesn't look like an a24 film it is quite large and it just feels like a like a very massive movie probably gonna be one of the biggest scope movies in a 24's catalog I'm very very excited for this one to be honest and I'm curious to see how well it lands with its [Music] concept Love Lies bleeding Rose glass seems like quite an interesting filmmaker and from the trailer alone this does look like a film that is quite passionately written I was just so hyped watching the trailer there was just this incredibly infec ious and passionate energy that this trailer had hopefully the movie executes this and really lives up to the hype that the trailer has created it is just such a fascinating and fun and exciting looking movie The cinematography looks dope and I'm just overall just very excited for this movie because it just seems like something very new and very interesting while also being a quite unique throwback to 80s style [Music] films Untitled Jordan Peele project Jordan Peele is pretty much just releasing a film every 2 years and he's been doing this very consistently while giving us very consistently great and conceptual films films that on a surface level are quite fun and entertaining and very unique conceptually but the thing is when you look at what they're trying to say thematically the subtext is so incredibly important and should not be missed or overlooked and I think nope may just be thematically my favorite film of his with each film he does something new and something incredibly impressive and I just can't help but personally adore what he's put out so far this movie I think has me and many other people wondering what's it going to be about because that's the best thing about Jordan Peele and his upcoming releases is that we don't know what he's going to do next there was one point where he talked about making a sequel or follow-up to nope and I was just kind of shaking my head at that because I just genuinely felt like Jordan Peele could be doing something so much more interesting than that while showcasing his ability to stay consistent and very conceptual I was looking forward to the idea of him just evolving more as a filmmaker which I think has happened despite the fact that overall I think that get out is probably his best film I think that he has strayed more and more from the horror genre and he's done so quite an interesting way so fit his next film I think we're all wondering what he's going to do and I'm very excited to see what he [Music] does the actor which is directed by Duke Johnson Duke Johnson is quite an important director because he co-directed anomalisa with Charlie Kaufman the animation for anomalisa is just insane like it's just amazing it is one of my favorite animated films of all time this film does look quite interesting it's obviously going to be quite depressing and quite miserable just from reading the blob but the thing is is that I am just so excited to see what Duke Johnson does here he's going solo style this time and I for one cannot wait at all very excited for this [Music] one strangely the Alien films are quite known for straying away from the original genre which was done absolutely brilliantly with aliens of course but I'm glad to see that this director is taking the story in a much more simple much more straightforward Direction because the thing is the past two Alien movies alien Covenant and Prometheus were quite philosophical movies or at least they were trying to be and in that sense they didn't 100% succeed because it just made something like alien Covenant feel so totally incoherent I don't mind alien Covenant I'm just saying that it's not the most terally coherent movie out there and I think it's interesting we're not be being given much of a backstory of the alien movies now which is great because the thing is is that I love how the original Alien films exist in ambiguity there's things that are just unanswered that were just answered in Prometheus and done so in a good way but I think that the existence of those movies kind of disrupts the ambiguity of the original film and the thing is is I'm glad that this movie is just going to be returning to the roots returning to what we love about the Alien films and there's quite a lot of potential here so being excited for this movie you know a part of a franchise that I've been adoring since I was a kid being excited for me is just an absolute [Music] understatement polarus directed by Lynn ramsy I love Lynn Ramsey man I love her she is probably one of my favorite directors of the 21st century you will never really hear is just such an incredible movie honestly I just think it is one of walking Phoenix's greatest performances it is just such a mesmerizing and unflinching film it's disturbing it's quite sad the violence of the film is quite sparse but it really hits hard when it happens the cinemat photography amazing Polaris is a quite exciting film whatever Lyn Ramsey is cooking here I just don't know exactly what she's doing but I'm very very excited to see what she is doing with this [Music] film of course directed by Robert Edgar and we've seen little Snippets and little images here and there but the thing is from the GetGo from the concept this looks awesome I heard about this movie before I heard about the Northman I looked online and I saw that this film was announced I was much more excited about this than the Northman because I had just seen the lighthouse and the lighthouse is one of my absolute favorite a24 films and probably one of my absolute favorite horror films of all time the lighthouse was an incredible movie of course and NOS Fatu just looks like a very interesting movie it just looks like it should work it's Robert Edgar directing the infamous vampire [Music] film Paul Thomas Anderson I love the dude look he he's just such a unique director working nowadays the fact that he has just continuously evolved stylistically thematically in writing he's just matured so much as a filmmaker and he took a little break from that with films like inherent Vice and licorice pizza but the thing is I'm just excited for him to return to making more mature and ambitious films thematically the master and Phantom thread are two films that really represent his change and evolution as a filmmaker NE and I mentioned There Will Be Blood which is just his greatest directorial achievement that he has ever put out and the thing is is that a new Paul Thomas Anderson film it's just it's it's just it's it's a wonderful thing it's wonderful news and to be honest I don't think that there's any film that could ever top this list than a Paul Thomas Anderson movie he his films just Mesmerize me to the absolute core when I watch his films I remember when I first saw his films at 15 16 years old and the thing is is that I didn't entirely understand what was going on during a film like the master or Phantom thread but one of the main things that I understood these would be films that when I return I understand so much more thematically nevertheless I'm always inspired and very fascinated by a film by Paul Thomas Anderson it's just that he seems to continuously make films that are quite conceptually very interesting he gives you a film and he allows you to actually try to take in what the film is trying to say thematically despite the fact that a lot of his films are quite angry quite bombastic and quite insane in energy he doesn't really do these things in a very melodramatic way he's quite grounded and he's quite real with how he directs his actors and the thing is is that the acting isn't even the my favorite part of a Paul Thomas Anderson film it's just the stories that he tells a lot of these feel like they should be adaptations from books and some of them are but the ones that aren't you're just kind of wondering how Paul Thomas andison can write such incredible scripts that are fully realized and don't feel like they have any thematic or storytelling confusion all of his characters are broken fragmented and Confused people with morally gray areas and the thing is that's just such an interesting thing that with his next film I'm just I'm I'm I'm absolutely excited for it it stars Leonard DiCaprio and walking Phoenix like as if this is a recipe for anything other than hopefully a legitimately great movie because I don't think I have ever seen a film by Paul Thomas Anderson that I would consider average aside from heart because aside from that he's just such a master filmmaker I just there's there's no other movie that I could ever anticipate more than what he's going to put out this year I'm absolutely excited for this movie and I just hope that it lives up to the films that we have gotten out for the past 20 years from PTA overall those are my most anticipated movies of the year
