There are certain players who  were great up until they met a   certain manager and everything just started  going downhill from there. In this video,   we want to look at some of such guys. Here are  10 footballers who were ruined by their managers. And who better to start with  than Yaya Toure? This guy was   ruined by the same manager at 2 different clubs. Toure was at Barcelona when Pep  became coach in 2008. And what   did Pep do? He brought in Sergio Busquets  from the youth team and relegated Toure. Then in 2010, Pep sold him to Manchester  City where Yaya began to find himself and   show his worth again. He was so good that  he was named African footballer of the year   for 4 consecutive years between 2011 and 2014.  He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year   for the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons, and  was Man City Player of the Year in 2014. At this point, Yaya Toure was sure to  end his career as a Man City legend,   but the club hired Pep Guardiola  in 2016, and the entire story began   to change. From playing 32 Premier  League games in the 2015-16 season,   Yaya’s numbers dropped to 25 in the 2016-17  season and then 10 in the 2017-18 season. Yaya eventually left in 2018, but surely not  in the manner he would have loved to leave   a club he helped win so much. And all that  was simply down to Pep and how he used him. But Yaya was not Pep’s only victim, Joe Hart was,   too. Back then, the Celtic goalie  was Man City and England’s number 1,   but Pep joined City in 2016 and relegated  him to the bench from the very first game. And Joe Hart wasn’t just anybody. This was a guy  who had won 4 Premier League Golden Gloves before   Pep arrived. He was also named in the PFA Team  of the Year in the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. But Pep didn’t care about all of that, he  relegated Hart to the bench and then loaned   him to Torino just months after he became  City manager. After a year in the Serie A,   he sent him on loan to West Ham. Then  in 2018, he finally sold him to Burnley,   and from there, he moved to Spurs  in 2020 and then Celtic in 2021. The moment Pep arrived at Man  City, Joe Hart’s career began to   crumble and the former England number  1 was not able to survive it. I mean,   this is a guy with the joint-most Golden  Gloves in Premier League history. He should   be up there as a Premier League legend, but he’s  not remembered as such because of you know who. And it’s like Mikel Arteta learned from  his mentor, because what he did to Mesut   Ozil was Pepesque. Ozil who had helped  Arsenal end their trophy drought in 2014,   finished as Premier League assist leader and  Arsenal Player of the Year in the 2015-16 season,   started feeding on crumbs when Arteta was hired. In the 2020-21 season, Ozil was left out of  Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads   for the season. So, Ozil, a World Cup winner,  was eligible to play for just the under-23 side. He was really disappointed, so he  left in January 2021 and moved to   Turkey to join Fenerbahce. He stayed  there for a year and half and then   moved to Istanbul Basaksehir where he  retired in March 2023 at the age of 34. A legend like Ozil should have  had a more graceful exit from   football than he got but Arteta denied him that. And guess who denied Diego Costa – Antonio Conte. Diego Costa peaked at Chelsea. He helped  them win 2 Premier League titles during   his time there and made it to the PFA  Team of the Year in the 2014-15 season. But after helping Chelsea win the Premier League  in 2017, Conte sent the Spanish striker a text   telling him he was no longer needed at the club.  What quickly followed was Costa being banished   from the first team and being excluded from the  Champions League squad for the 2017-18 season. Costa eventually left the club in September  2017 and rejoined Atletico Madrid, but he   was never able to reach those heights  anymore. He moved to Brazil to join   Atletico Mineiro in 2021 and then moved back  to the Premier League to join Wolves in 2022,   but nothing has been the same  since his altercation with Conte. Meanwhile, you could say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer  was responsible for ruining Donny van de Beek. The   Dutchman was a crucial part of that famed  Ajax squad that reached the semi-final of   the Champions League in 2019, but he moved to  United in 2020 and it was like he was a nobody. After spending 40 million pounds on him, Ole  decided not to use him – 4 Premier League   starts in his first season and none at all in  his second. Eventually, VDB was loaned out to   Everton in January 2022, but injuries have had  the better of him since then. He’s back in United,   but it already feels like the boy’s  career is done even though he’s just 26. Another player who was a victim of a Man United  coach was Radamel Falcao. Back in the early 2010s,   Falcao was one of the deadliest strikers  in Europe, and when he moved to United   in the summer of 2014, we all – including  Cristiano Ronaldo himself – thought he was   going to tear things apart in England,  but Louis van Gaal had other ideas. On his debut, the fans at Old  Trafford cheered loudly for Falcao,   little did they know that LvG had other  plans for the Colombian. Little by little,   the Dutchman started reducing his game time, and  then in March 2015, van Gaal had relegated him   to the under-21s, a move which drew criticism from  huge footballing figures including Diego Maradona. It was generally a demeaning and  humiliating spell for a man who   is one of the greatest strikers of his generation. Another Colombian who suffered similar  treatment elsewhere is James Rodriguez.   Carlo Ancelotti loved him so much and  brought him over to Real Madrid in 2014,   but after the Italian was sacked, James  was relegated to the bench by Zidane. This made Ancelotti, then coach of Bayern,   bring James over on a 2-year loan.  But after the loan spell was over,   Zidane still refused to use him at Madrid, so when  Ancelotti moved to Everton, he signed him again. James enjoyed his first season in England, But  Carlo left him there and returned to Real Madrid   in 2021, and it seemed like James Rodriguez just  couldn’t survive without his favorite manager. So, you could say this was something of a joint   effort. Zidane didn’t fancy him and  Ancelotti left him high and dry. Another Real Madrid midfielder who suffered  under Ancelotti was Isco. Although the Spanish   midfielder was Ancelotti’s first ever signing as  Real Madrid boss, during his second stint at the   club, the gaffer no longer had use for him, so  Isco was forced to say goodbye to Real Madrid. Since being sidelined by Ancelotti, Isco  has not been able to find his feet again.   He joined Sevilla in August 2022, and in  September, his contract was terminated. He was supposed to move to  Union Berlin in January,   but that fell through, so  now Isco is without a club. Then there’s Gareth Bale who Zidane just didn’t  like for some reason. Despite the Welshman being   one of the most important players in Madrid’s  European domination between 2014 and 2018,   Zidane just didn’t fancy him and  always tended to sideline him. The whole thing eventually blew out of proportion  and the relationship between the club and the   player completely broke down. Bale didn’t care  anymore, and it was very obvious. He would sleep   off on the bench, refuse to join his teammates  in celebrating trophies, and then THAT flag. Anyway, Bale finally left the  club in June 2022. He moved to   LAFC in the MLS where he played  until he retired in January 2023. Now, to wrap up this list, we have Dele  Alli. The lad was Spurs and England’s   golden boy until Jose Mourinho  was hired to coach Spurs in 2019. In 2020, Alli fell out of favor with Mourinho  and started seeing less and less game time and   that was when he began to fall off. After  Mou was sacked, Nuno tried to reintegrate   Alli into the squad, but he, too, was sacked  before the midfielder could hit top form again. Antonio Conte came in and, just like Mourinho, he  didn’t fancy Alli, so he was sold to Everton in   January 2022, and that’s where everything  totally crumbled. He was bad at Everton   so they loaned him to Besiktas just 8 months  after he joined. The Turkish club then tried   to cancel his loan deal midseason, and when they  couldn’t, they banished him from the first team. Will Dele Alli ever hit top form again? Who knows? But who are the other players that were ruined by  their managers? Drop some names in the comments. If you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs  up and subscribe to the channel.
