10 creative ways to make money with blender okay so let me guess your low poly weapons pack didn't make you an overnight millionaire what a surprise so is all hope lost should you give up i mean i'd say no blender has infinite potential and as with all similar tools when the obvious ways to make money are no longer available you just need to employ a little more creativity and this is why i came up with 10 different ideas for making money with blender which are just weird enough to make them viable trust me each idea is crazier than the next so you really want to check out the last few ideas let's talk about creating custom 3d thumbnails for youtube creators the reality is most full-time creators like myself are really really busy today is sunday for example and i should be relaxing with my family but here i am recording audio for a video that i need to get out tomorrow there's a ton of stuff we have to do such as coming up with script ideas we then have to actually write and edit the scripts record the audio for the scripts edit a video together in an entertaining way and on top of that we have to create engaging and eye-catching thumbnail art so how do some of these creators have time to create great videos and produce amazing high quality custom thumbnails week after week the truth is a lot of these channels you're subscribed to you actually use a small team to run the channel and this doesn't only apply to the big channels with millions of subscribers as well and now out of all of these team members do you want to know one of the most profitable it's the thumbnail artists believe it or not in reality running a gig as a thumbnail artist can turn very profitable very very quickly especially when talking about gaming channels which will often hire 3d artists to pose certain video game characters in specific ways if you already know how to do this in blender you are leaving a ton of money on the table some of the custom thumbnail artists get paid hundreds of dollars for their work bigger youtube channels are willing to pay more than a hundred dollars for a custom 3d thumbnail and on top of that they typically need recurring work according to their posting schedule and the best part is that you can work with multiple channels at a time and you can scale very very easily there are plenty of thumbnail artists out there who are working full time just doing this say you get your portfolio out there and you land a big client who posts twice per week that is already an extra eight hundred dollars a month for just posing fortnite characters don't sleep on this one idea number two is creating a small youtube channel i still feel like many of you still aren't understanding the potential of a youtube channel since blender 2.8 has been released it has easily become the most popular 3d topic on youtube and those who seize the opportunity saw their channels explode basically overnight and it's still happening today to channels i mean look what i've done with my channel i was able to leave my full-time corporate job only a year after i started taking my art career seriously and a big part of that was creating blender tutorials in the beginning while you won't hit a million subscribers anytime soon you can still make some good cash with a smaller channel as well and if you consider the many terrific improvements we got in new blender versions the demand for this type of content will only continue to rise to drive this point home i wanted to do a quick case study on one of my favorite blender channels ducky 3d ducky has been creating content for about three years give or take in fact his channel was created just before the release of blender 2.8 he's been focused on making the software available to new users by creating easy to follow tutorials in which he mostly uses only basic tools looking through his comments you'll see something pretty interesting you'll find a lot of the comments saying that they didn't even use blender before or that they just picked it up because of ducky that's mainly because he uploads very simple tutorials that anyone can follow and achieve some cool looking results in about 15 minutes or less due to his simple teaching style and beautiful visuals ducky has amassed around 20 million video views in the past short years which from my experience can amass you anywhere from about two to three thousand dollars a month and that's not even including brand sponsorships courses and affiliate sales my point is you don't have to be pewdiepie to make money on youtube you just have to start let's talk about creating mockups this whole process entails creating simple scenes that designers can use to access how their work will look in reality this can be anything from brochures to books to plain walls with blank posters or photo frames and the list continues on into infinity but i know what you're thinking why would anyone pay money for that if there's already a ton of free mock-ups on the internet well for one professional designers will pay good money for good unique and highly customizable mock-ups but that's not even where i wanted to head with this i want to think bigger advertising companies don't use free mock-ups so think about it at this angle what about you lending your services to companies and design mock-ups for big display spaces the process can go something like this the company or the advertising company will take several shots of a display location in their city then typically they would hire you to create a 3d version of it so they can show their clients exactly what the final ad will look like on top of that there are tons of designers out there willing to hire 3d artists on a project by project basis to help them create a model of their product so they can showcase it to their clients from different angles say a graphic designer created a brand identity for a cosmetics company they'll need models of the recipients the clients intends to use so they can show them how the final product is going to look needless to say there's huge money in corporate and i have friends who have landed massive deals for this kind of work however a decent amount of experience can be required depending on the gig but it's definitely something you should look into so what about custom 3d stock photos in all honesty this part of the whole stock photo business isn't really something you hear a lot about on the internet but a few sites have started popping up recently focusing on 3d stock pictures and videos in particular just like my last point there are plenty of professionals who need renders of their models taken from different angles or turntable animations for advertising purposes these photos can be anything from renders of the latest dslr camera to a few shots of an astronaut model spinning around in the vastness of space apart from product presentations these stock photos can be used for creating motion graphics or full-blown artistic music videos sites like 3doid.com offer these services for products released by various brands like apple braun polar etc of course you can get a lot more money for designing this on demand for the exact purpose someone needs them for more and more music artists are slowly leaning towards 360 degree videos up until blender 2.9 you needed a little workaround to export 360 degree videos from blender but now it's just as easy as rendering in any other format and the best part about making 360 degree music videos is that they don't even have to be too complicated if you manage to create an environment that has enough visual interest to keep someone spinning around it for three minutes you'll be golden like with any other side hustle you could go the professional way and start a website advertising these services or just rely on the network you will build for yourself the strategy to get started is simple but requires quite a bit of work on your end i would recommend creating a couple of these videos for some of your favorite tracks and then cold emailing some artists you like and offer to create their next video for them you might be surprised how many of these artists will say yes especially if you choose the ones you're excited to work for idea number six is vj visualizer packs by now you should know how easy it is to create intricate motion graphics in blender even more so than the industry standard adobe after effects in some cases with a small amount of work and some tweaks here and there you could have a complete pack with visualizers you could sell to djs vjs or even music venues in no time of course there are many free video loops on the internet but respectable vjs will always pay good money for quality packs my one piece of advice would be to make sure to follow a theme with all of them and you can sell them on sites like vj galaxy or vj loops farm depending on how unique your loops are you can sell your packs for anywhere between ten dollars and two hundred dollars yes people actually buy these armin van buren's vj doesn't make his own and i bet they make a lot of cash doing it as well idea number seven is video presentation packs the best part about 3d art is the infinite number of iterations you can get from just a simple model this workflow makes it exceptionally easy to create graphic packs that share a certain theme there are tons of people that need these especially people that are trying to create short videos businesses might even want to create presentation videos for hr purposes reporting or certain events that they're holding educational youtube channels pay big bucks for them as they can reuse them to create multiple videos on all kinds of topics to get started all you need is to create a character or two posed in several different ways along with some other items that fit the theme of the pack like whiteboards speech bubbles flags desks etc a pack like this could make a video editor's job a lot easier since they won't have to rely on stock photos which are usually pretty hard to match from a stylistic point of view the eighth idea we're getting pretty crazy now i want to talk about personalized e-cards does anyone here else remember the e-card craze of 2012. people were sending them left and right for the holiday season birthdays important events as like thank you notes or just as a way to troll their friends keep in mind this was a time when people were still trolling each other times have changed now i don't dare suggest that this trend needs to make a comeback it definitely doesn't at least not in its original form i say let it die let it die let it die let it shrivel up and die but 3d e cards could actually be the next big thing how else are people going to post happy birthday on their friend's walls in the better verse there are so many options here you can create small cauldrons and ghosts popping out of chess for a halloween card you can make quirky birthday cakes and let people take a slice out of them on their birthdays you can create an experiment with a steam achievement format you can let people collect them there's so many things you can do yes i know i'm basically talking about nfts but they aren't nfts they're 3d cards man they're different just as with any other thing that hasn't caught the public eye yet your best bet for starting such an endeavor would be offering personalized services in the beginning but you'll need to do some research on your part did you spot any engagement rings on your feed lately that might be a great opportunity for you to try this idea out just offer a few free ones and encourage people to spread the word who knows maybe you're on the brink of a huge new trend maybe not this is a fun one that i don't see enough it's small cgi commissions have you ever wondered how you can make money from instagram influencers and rob your friends of all they've got no anyone the answer is simple just offer small time cgi services and watch the money rolling but if one of your friends is trying to start a guitar channel and they post videos of them playing the guitar maybe they'd like vfx and musical notes flying out of their instrument as they play if you have any future models in your feed you can tempt them with a portfolio piece of them holding a snake the video tracking tools in blender are pretty great and there are countless other instruments at your disposal to blow the minds of your friends or the minds of all the instagram models soundcloud rappers and twitch streamers you can pitch this to i get messages almost every single day from soundcloud rappers asking to make me 3d chibi models for them i mean i've turned down every single one but some of these offers have been like ten thousand dollars to create this stuff so the money is out there and there are people who are willing to pay a large amount of money for a very small cgi commission so look into it you know go wild with it advertise with pictures of your dad riding a chihuahua into battle you know life short have fun and number 10 probably the craziest one and this one's been bouncing around in my head for a while so i just need to get it out there and it is vr marriage proposals okay this one might be a little too creative but hear me out creating vr environments now isn't exactly rocket science anymore and blender is really good at creating these you know i'm not sure where this whole vr marriage proposal thing started but i'm pretty sure there are worse ways to pop the question than a custom vr environment designed for this specific purpose i mean just think of that guy who proposed in a mcdonald's drive-thru his girlfriend definitely wasn't loving it [Music] with the advent of virtual reality the possibilities are endless you could create a couple of template environments that you can later fill in with custom pictures of the couple or other special memories that they have it's so customizable and it's so much cheaper than an actual wedding all that's left for them to do is to take his significant other to an unassuming date at a vr cafe and then just let the magic happen you could also sell the entire vr set as a keepsake of this amazingly quirky proposal either way you can recycle this idea multiple times and pitch it to men who look like they don't shop for their own underwear so to recap everyone and their mothers are trying to sell low poly asset packs that door is pretty much closed for forever but people will continue to learn blender and at the top of the learning curve they will be faced with a question how do i make money with this and as more and more people come up with creative ideas the answers to this question will get crazier and crazier and more creative the more people that join the 3d art space so i advise you to get a head start now and start capitalizing on your blender skills using your own creativity i created this video to show you that instead of taking the road some people have made for you years ago and taking the traditional routes of making money try be a trailblazer and show the rest of us what happens when you're brave enough to think outside the box you never know what untapped riches you could run into but that begs a very important question how do you actually create a product worth selling how do you build up a social media following so people will actually start buying it and how do you start making a serious amount of money with your sales luckily for you i've created the digital artist passive income series a super in-depth series that's going to teach you everything you need to know about creating a digital product with your digital art skills so if you want to start your journey of financial independence as an artist click on the video on your screen and start learning you
