hey everyone it's Sarah Janee with Chic and the chep and today we are decorating my backyard patio this is an area that I've been wanting to decorate for such a long time and a long the way I'm going to share with you my favorite tips tricks and hacks to hopefully inspire you to create an outdoor space that you can enjoy this spring and summer I hope you guys enjoyed this video let's go ahead and get [Music] started okay so when it comes to transforming your backyard into the outdoor space of your dreams the first thing I suggest is a rug I thought this one was really beautiful rugs can really elevate a space and make everything look a lot more connected and cohesive next after the rug was in place I swept a little bit to clear the area of any debris and this space is also where we keep our Grill and as you can imagine it's a bit of an eyes sore so that's another thing that I recommend is a grill cover and I really love this one because it matches the whole neutral Vibe I'm going for and it's easy to put on and it's easy to take off okay so next it's time for the patio furniture I actually bought this set last spring and these pieces have really held up so well through all of the elements I've been really impressed and this is a collection from Walmart it is still available this year I'll have it linked down in the description box below you can buy the pieces separately or as a set and I just love all of the details on this patio furniture all of the pieces are so pretty and also designer inspired so just to show you here is the $4,000 couch yes $4,000 and the nearly $2,000 chair so yes we are definitely getting a similar look at a fraction of the designer price now the fabric on the furniture did come with Scotch Guard protection but because I've had this set for a year I just thought it would be good to give the fabric an extra layer of Scotch Guard to protect it from the Sun and the rain this is a covered space but if we have strong winds it will definitely get wet and it does get a lot of sun especially in the mornings and I should have done this before I put the furniture on the rug so just learned from my mistake but I did decide to spray the rug as well just to give it some extra protection too and the last piece of furniture I'm adding to the space is an egg chair I've wanted one of these for such a long time and I really love the look of this one I would say it took me about 30 minutes to put together and it does come with all of the cushions and you guys it is so comfortable I'm really going to love having this to loung in next we're going to dress up the furniture with some fun pillows how cute is this one with the tassels and how adorable is this one to go perfectly with our neutral theme and some of these are actually just pillow covers I really love using pillow covers because they allow you to easily switch up the design of your space without breaking the bank and I did go ahead and give all of the pillows a coat of Scotch Guard to protect them from all of the outdoor elements I try to be realistic about outdoor decorations and outdoor furniture I know they'll go through a lot especially during the summer months but I do try to give them their best shot at staying pretty for a long time okay so next let's decorate this tray and we're going to start with drink coasters one of my all-time favorite hacks is to use tiles as coasters you can typically find ceramic tiles at your local Home Improvement store for extremely cheap these are at Lowe's and they are only 29 cents a piece or if you have a little more room in your budget grab some decorative tiles these are also from Lowe's I thought they were so beautiful and only .59 a piece so the tiles or our drink coasters are the first things going on the tray next is this tabletop torch and that's where the next hack comes into play more often than not when you buy tiki torch fuel you'll get all of this black soot that comes off of the flame and this is not cozy it is not inviting it to me just looks like a fire hazard so this is not cute instead grab some isopropyl alcohol I like the 91% the best and replace the fuel with this you'll also want to replace your torch wig too and I think you'll be amazed at how much cleaner the flame Burns no black soot at all it was pretty windy as I was filming this so you'll be able to see the flame much better a little later in the video and this of course works with your tiki torches too it's just so much more inviting and just such a pretty flame and what's an outdoor space without flowers so that's the next thing on my decorating list I found this gorgeous planter and I went to a local farmers market over the weekend and I picked up this beautiful arrangement and just sat it inside the planter this next arrangement though we are making ourselves she'll want one large planter and one that is a little bit smaller I got both of these at Walmart and there are a couple different ways ways that you can do this but I like to add a little soil to the bottom of the large planter and then I'm going to add this additional planter and this will go upside down inside the large planter and here's a closer look at that then I'm going to add some soil until it's level with the bottom of the upside down planter and then the smaller planter is going to go on top next we're going to fill the Gap that's left from the larger planter with some flowers and you'll also want to add some extra soil just to make sure these plants are going to thrive in their new home and then for the top planner I wanted something with some height and I almost forgot to mention the first step before doing any of this is to poke holes in the bottom of your Planters these planters that I'm using have drainage Knockouts so the holes were really easy to make and here's how the double stacked planter turned out and this is totally customizable using whatever kind of plants you would like and whatever kind of [Music] Planters now the flipping of the planter upside down hack also works with large baskets so instead of filling this all the way up with dirt I added the planter and this hanging planter then all you have to do is cut the hanging portion off and you're done and I did put hanging plants at home with their own Planters in both of these baskets No Mess no fuss and it took me only seconds to do now I do have a few more planter hacks to share with you first take a large planter flip it upside down add a tray on top and you've got a quick in table another option is to flip it right side up and add a tray on top so you have an end table that also seconds as hidden storage we use an extension cord with our Grill so that's what I'm going to keep in here but this is also a great place for your insect repellent your sunscreen your gardening gloves whatever you would like to have neatly put away and out of sight and you can have a spot to put your drink a book you can enjoy while you're outside and maybe even a nice candle and here's another idea if you don't have a tray on hand grab a pizza pan this one is from Walmart I will have the exact one linked down in the description box below and this step is optional but all I did was spray paint it with some white spray paint and then I added some Stone spray paint to give it some texture and this pizza pan fits perfectly on top of this planter and it's that easy to create this really pretty side table where you can place different items and you also have the hidden storage too if you've ever Sho for them hidden storage side tables are not cheap and we made this one for under 30 bucks this next hack is for anyone who doesn't have the time or energy to spend on real plants consider UV resistant plants these come in a bunch of different colors and honestly they look so good and would be perfect for a backyard space like this because they are extremely low maintenance and last such a long time and I just put them in a little planter and this looks so cute and here's a look at the finished space I am just so thrilled with how this turned out out all of the pieces came together so nicely and I can't wait to start sitting out here enjoying the birds and the trees just all of the lovely things in our backyard and basically just spending more time outside from now until the fall but wait this video isn't done yet I do have a few more ideas to share with you to help you enjoy your outdoor space and the first one is a pretty way to keep the mosquitoes away you'll need two candle holders and some sand I grabbed these items from Dollar Tree and you'll just put a little sand in each candle holder next I bought these citronella tea lights from Walmart these for a dollar so even cheaper than Dollar Tree and I placed one inside of each candle [Music] holder then just place these outside anywhere you'll be lounging or spending time and not only do these look gorgeous they'll also help keep the pesky mosquitoes away too next are some solar light hacks which are my favorite and these solar light stakes are new at Dollar Tree this year and I'm not a huge fan of the way they look but if you twist off the top like this and place them in some candle holders preferably some candle holders that have some ridges or some sort of texture to the glass that's going to look the best and I love that these little lights can stand up on their own and here's how they look outside this is around Sunset so you can see all of the details a little bit better but what's so cool about these solar lights is that they mimic a real flame so they give off this really nice glow [Music] and here's how they look as it starts to get a little darker outside they create such a nice Ambiance so these solar lights I would say at Dollar Tree are definitely a Hidden Gem and are well worth $125 for this next easy DIY or solar hack you'll need a small lamp I thought this one was really cute and fits our theme really well and I'm sure I'll lose some people with this but you'll want to cut the electrical cord because we're making this a cordless lamp a cordless solar lamp to be exact so I grabbed another solar light from Dollar Tree I liked the copper color on this one and I hot Glu the top portion of the solar light to the socket on the inside where the light bulb [Music] goes and here's how it looks outside during the day it fits right into our existing decor and here's how it looks at night it is so cute and actually puts out a decent amount of light I was impressed all right guys so that's it for this video let me know your thoughts about the new space down in the comment section below I am thrilled with how everything came out I hope this video inspires you to create an outdoor space that you could enjoy this spring and summer and as always thank you so much for watching and until my next one I'll see you then
