breaking news and the investigation into the shooting in Ashland. That's just outside San Leandro. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office and CHP are on the scene. KTVU is James Torres was there. You just heard that press conference. James have you learned anything else about what happened? Sal, good morning to you. Here we have learned a lot so far from some representatives with the Alameda County sheriff's Office. You can see behind me the scene still very much active. And it's looked like this since about 2:00 this morning. Here's what we've learned so far. CHP caught wind of a car that was speeding along 580, headed eastbound, headed in this direction just outside of San Leandro in the Ashland area . That car gets off of the 164 exit. They crashed their car. CHP officers come in a reporting party. Someone calls 911 calls, dispatch saying that they heard a crash. They saw three men run out of the car, each wearing ski masks, all running in some direction. CHP does eventually catch up to them. An officer ends up fighting with two of those suspects. They say that those suspects tried reaching for the officer's weapon at that time. That's when Alameda County sheriff's deputies come in, step into the scene and then at some point, both the deputy and the CHP officer fired shots. They shoot their guns, hitting at least one person, one person now dead. Deputies also launched a drone in the air, suspecting that there may be more to this incident, they find the third suspect hiding some air near some of the houses in this neighborhood that we are standing in the middle of right now. So they end up arresting the two other suspects while they continue their investigation here. They say since arresting those suspects, they learned that the car they crashed, that was a car stolen out of Hayward here. But they're not sure why they would have been wearing ski masks. They're not sure what crimes would have been committed before the crash happen if it was just stealing the car, if they were planning to do something else that all is still under investigation this morning. We do know that the CHP officer and the Alameda County sheriff's deputy that were involved no injuries to them. They were in they were caught in that fight with those suspects. They did shoot their guns, but they were not injured. As far as we know. And as far as the sheriff's office knows, the suspects in this case did not have any weapons of their own. That's something that they've mentioned to us a little earlier this morning. But a lot of these details, as they always are, when we have news like this, that is fresh and just happened just a few hours ago, a lot of details are still preliminary, a lot of updates are still expected to happen as the morning develops. And, of course, once we have those updates, we will bring them to you. But just to recap, shots fired from both the CHP and from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
