on an unremarkable Street in Las Vegas lies a home as flamboyant as its original owner welcome to the Liberace mansion when UK businessman Martin Ravenhill purchased Liberace's house a year ago for just $500,000 it was in a sorry state of disrepair two sinkholes about to swallow it up I didn't want to let his legacy or his memory fade away he made millions and millions of people very happy not only with his music but he was a feast for the eyes as he was for the ears Martin poured in over a million dollars to restore it to its former opulent glory every piece with an outlandish tale and this room of course Martin this was Liberace's bedroom he couldn't buy the Sistine Chapel so he found a direct blood descendent of Michelangelo who also happened to be an artist bought him over here and had encouragin into one and a half years and he paid one and a half million dollars for this ceiling and then there was his ensuite 350 thousand dollar bathtub complete with gold duct taps he was so often picture there's a staircase shipped in one piece from a can-can club in Paris and marble columns Liberace imported from Greece and had lowered in by helicopter they were pretty difficult to get because they were telling the laws in Europe about the artifacts being sold off and taken away to America from the famous mirror room to the Moroccan room where celebrities partied all night long Liberace's home is like no other the only thing no longer here that famous keyboard piano pool it was filled in by a previous owner and is now a ballroom and home to the glitziest car on the strip this was one of his most favourite cars and it's covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals Liberace's mentioned for the moment is only able to host private functions but it is Martin's hope that one day in the future he can open the doors to the public to ensure Liberace's legacy is kept alive the Liberace Foundation has donated personal items to be stored here including the entertainer's three million dollar crystal piano thing Liberace returning in his great spinning spinning but now his memory will be kept alive in the city he loved and that's music to the ears of Liberace fans all over the world in Las Vegas Christine Ahern 9 News you
