[Music] friends welcome back to the third part of our eight part series on the two mysteries collide i pray that so far you have been blessed and that the things that we have been discussing make sense today we're going to be talking about the subject of the falling away first part we talked about the mystery incarnate then secondly the mystery produces and today we're going to be covering the mystery or the falling away and we're going to see it's connected with the mystery of iniquity so as we head into this subject let's have a word of prayer as we commence father in heaven i pray that you would continue to guide us as we continue to look at your word and study it and seek to understand the things concerning prophecy strengthen our hearts may our hearts even burn within us and i pray o lord as always that i will not be seen the lord you would forgive my shortcomings all of my sins and use me as a vessel to communicate the word to communicate the truth as it is in jesus this is what i pray and i ask in jesus christ's name amen as we begin our message today so far we have gone over multiple subjects starting off with the mystery incarnate which was revealed in jesus christ and then we covered what the mystery produced which is a church namely the second body of christ in which the mystery of godliness would continue to be revealed but now we will cover the formation of another church a church that is formed by another mystery a mystery that is opposed to the mystery of godliness even the mystery of iniquity paul's speaking of the time of the second coming states that there is a seriously diabolical development which must transpire prior to the climax of the ages we find this development in 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 specifically verses 3 and 4 where paul states let no man deceive you by any means for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition who opposeth and exalted himself above all that is called god or that is worshiped so that he as god sitteth in the temple of god shoeing himself that he is god notice the falling away results in the revelation of the man of sin the son of perdition but before we even get to the falling away and how it results in the revelation of the man of sin we must ask ourselves the question what caused the falling away in the first place we are not left without an answer paul later states that he was already witnessing even in his day the very work that would lead to the falling away by saying ii thessalonians chapter 2 verses 7 and 8 the following for the mystery of iniquity dot already work only he who now let it will let until he be taken out of the way and then shall that wicked be revealed whom the lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming the greek word for iniquity in this text is a nomia which can be rendered without law lawless or wickedness therefore we can translate verses 7 and 8 as follows for the mystery of lawlessness is already at work only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way and then the lawless one will be revealed whom the lord will consume with the breath of his mouth and destroy with the brightness of his coming this means that the mystery of iniquity or lawlessness that was already at work in paul's day would in time produce the falling away which contextually means of falling away or apostasy from the law of god itself this apostasy would then lead to the production of the lawless one even the man of sin which in which is a violation of the law itself this man of sin as we saw earlier sets himself up in the place of god in god's temple which according to first corinthians chapter 3 and verse 16 is god's church if ever there was a manifestation of blasphemy friends this is it hence inspired writings puts it this way and this statement can be found in the review and herald july 31st 1888 it says the man of sin was to arise and do his work of exaltation and blasphemy before the brethren could look for the coming of the lord that great event was to be preceded by a falling away there would be revealed listen to this a form of antichrist and the leaven of apostasy was to work with increasing power to the end of time there would be revealed a form of antichrist remember that statement we see in this statement an additional phrase concerning who the man of sin is the phrase is logical to its very core the phrase is there would be revealed a form of antichrist in other words the man of sin is styled as antichrist and this as mentioned before just makes a logical sense for if he sits in god's temple receiving the worship due to him that can only mean that he is usurping the place of jehovah himself he sits in god's temple also known as the church which strongly implies that he is religious in nature but he usurps god's place which means he is anti-christian even the antichrist why for the new testament christians worship not only the father but jesus christ as god as well this blasphemous entity is also referred to in revelation 13 and verse 1 where john the revelation revelator says and i stood upon the sand of the sea and saw a beast rise up out of the sea having seven heads and ten horns and upon his horns ten crowns and upon his head his heads the name of blasphemy now in order to understand this text we must first understand that the book of revelation commences by stating in revelation chapter 1 and verse 1 the revelation of jesus christ which god gave to him to show his servants things which must shortly take place and he sent and signified it by his angel to his servant john the word signified in this passage actually means to make known through signs or symbols john gill a baptist pastor scholar and theologian who lived during the 1700s said it right when he wrote concerning his commentary on revelation chapter 1 and verse 1 he in quote christ who is the lord of angels and to whom they are ministering spirits sometimes sent one angel and sometimes another and by various emblems signs and visions represented and set before john a faithful servant and a beloved disciple of his the whole of the revelation the whole of this revelation john gill's exposition of the bible commentary on revelation while there were a number of angels that communicated to john in signs and symbols in the book of revelation gabriel was foremost among them he is the one being referred to when verse 1 says his that is christ's angel we know this due to the powerful book desire of ages it states there it was gabriel the next in rank to the son of god who came with the divine message to daniel gabriel his angel and gabriel his angel whom christ sent to open the future to the beloved john that's desire of ages page 234 and i'll read it once again it was gabriel the angel next and rang to the son of god who came with the divine message to daniel it was gabriel his angel whom christ sent to open the future to the beloved john this means that the majority of the content in the book of revelation are given in signs and symbols therefore by the grace of god these signs and symbols must be unlocked in order for us to gain an understanding of the of the passage with that understanding let us now turn back to revelation chapter 13 and verse 1. where we find the description of a power who is synonymous to the man of sin whom we saw earlier is guilty of blasphemy the passage once again states and i stood upon the sand of the sea and saw a beast rise up out of the sea having how much seven heads and ten horns and upon his horns ten crowns and upon his heads the name of blasphemy notice the beast in the passage rose up out of the sea or a large body of water the question now is what does a beast represent in bible prophecy according to daniel chapter 7 and verse 23 we are told as it relates to the four major beasts that would rule over the earth spanning from daniel's day all the way to the end of the world we are told the following the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon the earth which shall be different from all other kingdoms and shall devour the whole earth trample it and break it in pieces therefore we see that a beast in bible prophecy represents a kingdom or a political power it is by this truth that we realize that the beast that rose up out of the sea must therefore be a political power or kingdom yet we have another symbol to unlock for this political power rose up from the sea to unlock uh rose up from the sea or a large body of water in revelation chapter 17 and verse 15 we are told that a body of water represents people's multitudes nations and tongues and i'm going to read this to you because in revelation 17 verse 15 one of the angels with the seven vials comes and breaks down the judgment that is to come against the or the harlot the major harlot of revelation 17. and this is what it says in verse 15 of revelation 17. then he one of the angels that held the sev one of the seven vials he said to me the waters which you saw where the harlot sits are peoples multitudes nations and tongues so we see here that a body of water prophetically or figuratively represents a greatly populated area filled with people multitudes nations and people of different tongues meaning languages this beast or political power therefore rises up out of a populated area but however the other aspect is there is another major component in revelation 13 1 that helps us to understand just who this power is the very last part of the verse states that he whoever this power is that we're describing in revelation 13 1 has the name of blasphemy and so friends as we look at this we're going to understand more of what this means someone's name in scripture usually denotes that individual's character or mission and at times it denotes one's experience for example matthew chapter 1 and verse 21 states concerning jesus christ and she will bring forth a son and you shall call his name jesus why because or for he will save his people from their sins that was jesus's mission to save his people from sin itself another example is found in genesis chapter 25 where the bible lays out the birth of esau and jacob by saying this in verses 25 and 26 states the following and the first came out red he was like a hairy garment all over so they called his name what esau after where his brother came out and he and his head took hold of esaurus esau's heel so that word so means or as a result of him laying hold of his brother's heel his name was called jacob isaac was 60 years old when she bore them the word jacob actually means supplanter or one who lays a snare or a deceiver not by coincidence this is the very thing that jacob did for the majority of his life until the experience of wrestling with the angel of the lord due to that experience of wrestling with the angel in which he prevailed jacob prevailed through prayer his name was changed to israel in this way we see that the name of an individual is a symbol of their character or mission that means when the bible says that the beast that rose up from the sea had the name of blasphemy it's saying that the very character and mission of that beast or political system was blasphemous in nature now blasphemy is a religious term don't forget that there are two major instances among many others in the bible where we gain insight as to what constitutes blasphemy one was when jesus forgave the paralytic in hearing the words sun be of good cheer thy sins are forgiven thee the bible states in matthew chapter nine and verse three and at once some of the scribes said within themselves concerning jesus this man blasphemes now jesus was not committing blasphemy because he was and is god he further proved it by not only forgiving the man's sin but by reversing sin's effects in healing the man but if you and i were to do that very forgiving act which jesus did friends that would be blasphemy in another story jesus speaking to the jews said i and my father are one that's john 10 verse 30 it says the bible follows up by saying this this is in john chapter 10 now verses 31-33 how do the people respond when jesus says this concerning equality with god it reads then the jews took up stones again to stone him jesus answered them many good works i have shown you from my father for which of those works do you stone me listen to their response the jews answered him saying for a good work we do not stone you but for blasphemy and because you a man make yourself god notice jesus was not wrong for claiming equality with the father because he was god and still is god but if any man woman or child were to do the same this would be blasphemy hence we see that the overarching definition of blasphemy is for the created to claim the rights that belong to the creator further broken down it is to claim the right to forgive sin and to claim equality with god this means revelation 13 1 should be translated as follows only in light of the aspects that we uncovered and i john stood upon the sand of a populated area and saw a political system or kingdom rise up out of that populated area having seven heads and ten horns and upon his horns ten crowns and upon his heads a character and mission that was blasphemous in nature for this political power would claim the right to forgive sins and equality with god himself hence this was not just a political power for in light of it being guilty of blasphemy which is in the religious domain this power must be a religiou political power end quote that's how we would literally translate it if or in light of having the symbols unlocked now there's much more symbolism in there but just for the purpose of uncovering who this power is those are the symbols that we on we are unlocked and in light of that we translated it in such a manner when we do a recap of all that we have covered so far what we find is that the great apostasy following the days of paul would lead to the formation of the man of sin who does a blasphemous work however we are seeing that john the revelator also saw the same man of sin in revelation 13 1 but rather as a religious kingdom or religio political entity rising up out of a populated area and doing a blasphemous work so paul speaks of the man of sin and many times the idea that we get is this is a singular entity or or an individual but when you compare it with revelation 13 1 you realize that the man of sin is a title not for an individual but for a system hence the man of sin is not the title of a man but rather a system a system in which men claim the right to forgive sin and equality with god friends i'm sure that just by going through the layout just described that it is clear what system we are referring to i say respectfully that the interpretation of revelation 13 1 when paralleled with 2 thessalonians chapter 2 verses 3 and 4 can fit none other than the papacy the roman catholic church system a religiou-political system in which we see men assuming the authority to forgive sins and at the same time claiming equality with god speaking of this kingdom's power to forgive sins we read the writings of alfonsus delegueri he lived from 1696 to 1787. he was an italian catholic bishop spiritual writer composer musician artist poet lawyer scholastic philosopher and theologian and in light of him being a bishop he stated plainly the priest holds the place of the savior himself when by saying igote absolve i absolve thee he absolves from sin to pardon a sin requires all the omnipotence of god but what only god can do by his omnipotence the priest can also do by saying egote innocent iii has written indeed listen to this friends indeed it is not too much to say that in view of the sublimity of their offices the priests are so many gods alfonsus de le guri dignities and duties of the priests pages 34 to 36. that is a heavy statement friends and concerning the claim to equality with god the same system states concerning its popes this can be found in pope leo the 13th encyclical letter the reunion of christendom he states there we the popes hold upon this earth the place of god almighty another statement catholic national july 1895 puts it even more plainly by saying the pope is not only the representative of jesus christ but he is jesus christ himself hidden under the veil of flesh for someone who may be hearing these statements for the first time it may sound very intense as i make these statements know that god's word is pointing out a system not necessarily the people but a system and its structural setup he is not focusing on the people for god has his people everywhere but in the end he will seek to call them out for it is not his plan for people to continually live or to ever live in deceptive systems now we see that the man of sin is synonymous with the beast out of the sea both equal the papacy or as men such as martin luther john calvin john wesley and a plethora of other reformers called it the antichrist for the place of christ was usurped in the minds of men by the specific power that we're talking about now the question is what led to this what could lead to the setting up of such a gigantic worldwide system we read it earlier in 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 it was none other than the falling away or the great apostasy we get a serious picture of what this apostasy looked like through the lens of inspiration friends the following statements breaks down all that we just read this can be found in great controversy page 49 and 50. it states there the apostle paul in his second letter to the thessalonians foretold the great apostasy which would result in the establishment notice that the establishment of the papal power he declared that the day of christ should not come speaking of the second coming except there come of falling away first and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition who opposes and exalted himself above all that is called god or that is worshipped so that he as god sitteth in the temple of god showing himself that he is god and furthermore the apostle warns his brethren that the mystery of iniquity death already work even in his day he was seeing that which would produce the papacy even at the early date that early date he saw creeping into the church errors that would prepare the way for the development of the papacy little by little first in stealth and silence and then more openly as it increased in strength and gain control of the minds of men the mystery of iniquity carried forward its deceptive and blasphemous work almost imperceptibly the customs of hedonism found their way into the christian church the spirit of compromise and conformity was restrained for a time by the fierce persecutions which which the church endured under paganism but as persecution ceased and christianity entered the courts and palaces of kings she laid aside the humble simplicity of christ and his apostles for the pomp and pride of pagan priests and rulers and in place of the requirements of god she substituted human theories and traditions the nominal conversion of constantine in the early part of the 4th century caused great rejoicing and the world cloaked with a form of righteousness walked into the church now the work of corruption rapidly progressed paganism while appearing to be vanquished became the conqueror her spirit controlled the church her doctrines ceremonies and superstitions were incorporated into the faith and worship of the professed followers of christ this compromise between paganism and christianity this compromise between paganism and christianity resulted in the development of the man of sin foretold in prophecy as opposing and exalting himself above god great controversy page 49 and 50. friends those are solemn statements we saw it before we read the statement those statements that i just read just laid it out to the point that it was even more clear we are seeing something solemn and sad at the same time the reality is that the working of the mystery of godliness results in the drawing of men and women to christ this ultimately leads to the formation of a church for that's what church means the word means called out ones a system of called out ones born to continue the declaration and demonstration of the mystery of god's redeeming love however it is the same with the mystery of iniquity the working of the mystery of iniquity results in men and women being drawn away from christ which is called in the bible apostasy or the falling away this then leads to the formation of a church a system born to deceive the masses concerning god's character to lead men to feel that they can gain salvation not through the merits of christ alone but rather based on our own merits and traditions the righteousness of christ is set aside for our own righteousness which are his filthy rags two mysteries each mystery forming a church that possesses opposing messages these two messages have continued throughout the epochs of time and friends it is in light of this i want us to look at this concept because as we see this principle of these two mysteries forming two churches we see that on one side the papacy has been formed and then on the other side god has his people that have not compromised we understand that the papal system as we were reading was formed through christians that chose to compromise but friends you can be sure that god always has a people that stays committed to the truth and those people are referenced by the way in revelation chapter 12. i want you to go with me there in revelation chapter 12 we're going to look at this text and as we look at the text we're going to understand some crucial things concerning time prophecy two mysteries producing one drawing meant to christ one drawing men away from christ and ultimately the result is the formation of a church so to a mystery resulting in people being drawn to form a church on both ends whether it be the mystery of iniquity or the mystery of godliness now as it concerns those who would not compromise and join this aspect that would ultimately lead to the formation of the man of sin we are told about them in revelation chapter 12 and verse 6. now the the context of this is that it covers the great controversy as it concerns the fall of satan and then it also covers the life of christ in of just one verse saying that he was born and then called up to god and then it begins to delineate history that follows the ascension of christ which means we're going to end up coming to the very text that we have been talking about the formation of the man of sin now it talks about this woman who gave birth to the man child and who is this woman it is a depiction of none other than the faithful i want to read this statement to you this is found in revelation chapter 12 and verse 6. this is what it says here and the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared of god so this woman belongs to god god is providing for her and he prepared a place for her that they should feed her this woman there a thousand two hundred and three score days three score meaning sixty a score meaning uh twenty and then three score three multiply by twenty you get sixty so one thousand two hundred and sixty days now a woman in bible prophecy figuratively and prophetically we're going to see what it represents in jeremiah chapter 6 and verse 2. god gives symbolism throughout the entire old testament and new testament it's a powerful interesting fact out of all the 404 verses in the book of revelation over 270 of them are pulled from the rest of the bible especially the old testament and certain aspects of the new testament and so concerning jeremiah chapter 6 and verse 2 the phrase the daughter of zion in reference to god's people is used but look at what the daughter of zion or god's people are compared to in jeremiah chapter six and verse two it states there i have likened the daughter of zion a reference to god's people i have likened the daughter of zion to a calmly and delicate woman now friends as it concerns the new testament the same thing is found with the apostles the apostle paul and many of the other apostles in referring to the church of jesus christ refers to the church as the bride of christ many times it refers they refer to the church in as a female or as a woman figuratively so figuratively and prophetically a woman in bible prophecy represents a church now notice in context this church has been provided for by god for 1260 years which means as she's hiding out in the wilderness and god is providing for her this woman symbol of a church must therefore be god's church because he's providing for it now the interesting thing about this is we found out what the woman is doing she's hiding away in the wilderness the next question that we must ask is why is she hiding away friends the reason is delineated in revelation chapter 13 and verse 5. it states in revelation chapter 13 and verse 5 concerning another power who is there who is actually in existence while the woman is hiding away in the wilderness and we're going to find out how we know that in a moment it states of the same power we were studying concerning this beast that rises up out of the sea which we found out as the papacy concerning this power it states and there was given unto him that is the papal system a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months now friends it's not just that the papacy was speaking blasphemies i want you to take your bibles and i want you to go with me to that text we're going to read verses 6 and 7 of revelation chapter 13. it says in revelation chapter 13 and we're going to look at verses 6 and 7 to further lay out what this beast power was doing doing during that time so i'll read it from verse 5 once again just to give us a little context as we just read it says and there was given unto him amount speaking great things and blasphemies and power was given unto him to continue how long forty and two months continuing it says and he the papal system opened his mouth in blasphemy against god to blaspheme his name his tabernacle and them that dwell in heaven now notice verse 7 and it was given to him contextually the papacy to make war with the saints and to overcome them and power was given him over all kindreds and tongues and nations wow so we're finding out here that whoa this papal system was warning against the saints now this is a sublime it's it's a powerful revelation here that we're getting friends the papacy was ruling and doing this work of persecuting the saints for 42 months the woman was hiding away in the wilderness for 1260 days now in bible prophecy a crucial principle that helps us to unlock this time period is to understand that when it concerns prophecy or figurative language a day in bible prophecy represents a year i'll give you two verses and we will read one of them numbers chapter 14 and verse 34 is one of those verses and ezekiel chapter four and verse six is another one of the verses and we will read ezekiel chapter 4 and verse 6. and it states there concerning ezekiel being an object lesson to the people concerning something that god was going to do with them listen to what god says to ezekiel and when you have accomplished them lie again on thy right side and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of judah 40 days look at this principle now i have appointed thee each day for a year so we're seeing here as ezekiel was going to lie on his side for this 40-day period it was a symbol of bearing the the iniquity of the house of judah and as he was doing this friends this is the powerful thing each day that he did this for the space of 40 days it was a symbol each day was a symbol of a year same principle is laid down in numbers 14 34 concerning a day figuratively or prophetically representing a year now this is vital to understand because if the woman is in the wilderness for 1260 days and in bible prophecy for we are dealing with a prophecy a day represents a year then what are we noticing then if the woman is in the wilderness god's church was hiding away in the wilderness for 1260 days and each day represents a year that means that the woman was hiding out in the wilderness god's church was hiding out in the wilderness for 1260 years 1 260 years god was providing for his people as they were in a situation of seclusion and obscurity hiding from the persecution of the man of sin now how do we know that this is the same time period as what we read about the papacy persecuting god's people for 42 months friends when you look and have an understanding of the jewish calendar and how they how they laid out and reckoned months to each month there was 30 days so if you have 42 months how many days would then be in 42 months if each month contains 30 days all you have to do is take a calculator and multiply 42 by 30. and what do you get 1260 the same time period that the woman was in the wilderness now we're finding out why she was hiding out she was hiding out why because the papacy during that same time period was persecuting the woman hence she was in hiding this same period by the way is described in daniel chapter 7 and verse 25 when it speaks of a little horn power persecuting and making war against the saints for time times and the dividing of times daniel chapter 7 actually daniel chapter 4 and verse 23 actually as you look throughout the entire chapter you see a layout of nebuchadnezzar he became proud as a result of thinking that he was the only one instrumental in building his kingdom now friends there was a a dream that nebuchadnezzar was given daniel interpreted the dream warned nebuchadnezzar but still nebuchadnezzar failed to follow through in being humble and not becoming proud concerning his kingdom now when he became proud the bible prophesied and daniel interpret interpreted the dream to show that nebuchadnezzar would become insane and unable to rule his kingdom four seven times and friends it was delineated in daniel chapter four that that seven those seven times was a symbol of seven years now if seven times is a depiction of seven years then that means a time would equal one year if that makes sense so in daniel chapter 7 and verse 25 let's turn there if you have your bibles with you daniel chapter 7 and we're going to read verse 25 just to help us to see this and understand it daniel chapter 7 and verse 25 states this powerful statement concerning we're going to realize the same power daniel chapter 7 and verse 25 states and he speaking of the little horn shall speak great words against the most high right that's blasphemous words again we're seeing it and shall wear out the saints of the most high that's persecuting language and thing to change times and laws that's god's times and laws and they shall be given meaning the saints shall be given into his hand until what a time times and the dividing of times or the dividing of time i should say now as we look at this statement we understood that a time represents what one year times as a result of not having a number connected to it has to at least be two years so we have a year time two years times and then half a time that is half a year some of your bibles actually translates it that that way it says time time in half a time or three and a half years now friends how many days are in three and a half years friends 42 months are in three and a half years which equals 1 260 days we're talking about the same power the little horn therefore is the same as the man of sin which is the same as the first beast of revelation 13. and friends you can see a layout of this in a graph as we'll pull it up on the screen at this moment numbers in bible prophecy and you could see a jewish month equals 30 days time equals 360 days times equals 720 days which is two years half a time equals 180 days so in total what you have is 1 260 days which is equivalent to 42 months which is the same as three and a half years because this is powerful what we're seeing here is that these are a reference to the same time periods and when was that time period as you saw on the screen there the 1260-year time period lasted from 538 to 1798 the time period of papal supremacy i'm going to read to you a statement here that verifies that point in great controversy page 54. we're going to look at it here it says in the 6th century the papacy had become firmly established you see it was rising before that but in the sixth century it was finally established everything that stood in its way of being established was finally removed and it states here its seat of power was fixed in the imperial city and the bishop of rome was declared to be the head over the entire church paganism had given place to the papacy the dragon had given to the beast his power and his seat and great authority revelation 13 2 and now began the 1260 years of papal oppression foretold in the prophecies of daniel and the revelation which we saw according to daniel 7 25 and revelation 13 verses 5 through 7 we're speaking about the same power christians were forced to choose either to yield their integrity and accept the papal ceremonies and worship or to wear away their lives in dungeons or suffer death by the rack the or the hedman's axe now were fulfilled the words of jesus which is found in luke 21 verses 16 and 17 which state states you shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends and some of you shall they calls to be put to death and you shall be hated you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake persecution opened upon the faithful with greater fury than ever before and the world became a vast battlefield for hundreds of years the church of christ here it is listen to this found refuge in seclusion and obscurity thus says the prophet the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of god that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and three score days wow so friends what we are seeing here is that truly bible prophecy is true we can trust the word of god we have seen it in scripture and we've only confirmed it we've only verified it we've only amplified it i should say in the spirit of prophecy in the writings of the lord's messenger but we have seen it in the word of god and now it has been laid out to us that this time period would last for 1260 years starting from 5 38 and then it would be interrupted in 1798. friends this is powerful because that means something had to happen in 1798 that led to the interruption of papal supremacy friends this is actually written by john adolphus concerning the end of the 1260 1260-year period john adolphus a historian he says it came as the climax of several centuries of decline in the influence of catholicism on the minds of europeans and it was not merely a military coup but it was a stroke deliberately intended to terminate the papacy forever this is this interruption that we're going to find out about what was the interruption how did it look drewing the french revolution and under orders from the revolutionary french government general alexander bertier issued a proclamation in rome on february 15 1798 informing pope pius the sixth and the people of rome that the pope should no longer exercise any function john adolphus the history of france volume 2 page 365. friends this is how the interruption took place napoleon sending in his general alexander berthier went in and took the pope captive and that same pope friends died in captivity the next year but it's not just that that the pope died in captivity the next year and and basically as a result of the pope being the head of the roman catholic church the church for a time shortly was spiritually decapitated in the sense that its head was now in captivity but friends it's more than this what the bible is revealing to us here is this crucial point and that is that concerning the papacy we are realizing that the same way that it persecuted the saints during the 1260 year period the way that it did that was interrupted and you know what the way was the way was that the papacy united the church united with the civil powers of the world at that time of the then known world it's united with the civil powers of europe to become a power that could enforce its religious dogmas upon the people through the civil powers at that time so the papal system used the power of the state or the civil powers of europe in order to enforce its dogmas upon the masses the result was persecution far and wide but revelation chapter 13 speaking of this time of the interruption of papal persecution especially it was waning just before that but especially ending decisively in 1798 revelation 13 verses 3 and 10 actually talks about this i'm going to read this to you revelation chapter 13 verses 3 and 10. it says and i saw revelation 13 verses 3 and 10 i saw on one of his heads one of his heads as it were wounded to death the speaking of the papal system and his deadly wound his mortal wound meaning it was a death blow was healed and all the world wandered after the beast we're going to come back to that then it says in verse 10 he that leadeth into captivity so the papal power led men into captivity during the 1260 years and just as he did that he that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity he that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword here is the patience and the faith of the saints now the reason why it says here is the patience of the saints is because the saints had to endure for 1206 years this papal oppression and so friends what we're getting at here is at the same time that the woman was in the wilderness was the same time that the papacy was exercising its supremacy hence the woman in the wilderness and how long was this for 42 prophetic months three and a half prophetic years 1260 prophetic days which is a symbol really of 1260 prophetic ye literal years i should say so as this was happening we're realizing it lasted from 538 all the way to 1798 and then it was interrupted a deadly blow a mortal wound was given to this papal system to the point that not only that its pope was it was the pope at that time taken into captivity but friends the papacy itself lost the civil power france one of the most ardent supporters of the papal system turned upon the papacy at this point in the form of the french revolution and so as this happened now it says he that kill it with the sword was to be killed with the sword and this just makes sense right in romans chapter 13 and verse 4 we find out that the sword not only represents the bible the sword also represents depending on the context of the way that the word sword is used it can also represent the civil power romans 13 and verse 4 states for he speaking of the civil ruler or the civil powers is the minister of god to thee for good but if thou do that which is evil be afraid for he bears not the sword in vain for he is the minister of god to reven a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil so we see here that what does the civil power hold he bears not the sword in vain so what we're seeing here is according to romans chapter 13 and verse 4 the sword can also represent the civil power and friends that's what the papal system used drewing the 1200 260 years to persecute the saints to enforce its religious dogmas that same sword however turned upon the papacy at the end of the 1260 year period and so there was a deadly wound that was given but i want us to look again at the end of verse 3 as we conclude for this day it says and i saw revelation 13 and verse 3 and i saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death but what does the bible say and his deadly wound was healed and the result was that all the world wandered after the beast that means what we are coming to friends the realization of is that while in 1798 there was a death blow given where the papal system lost the ability to exercise its dogmas and enforce it upon the people through the civil power because it lost the civil power it could no longer do it but while that happened and this is called the mortal wound in the bible friends that wound will one day heal and that means the bible is showing us that there is a time again when the papal system will have the civil power as its aid to enforce its religious dogmas as we continue next time we're going to come to the point that we're going to see that the papal system will once again be lifted up by another nation that would rise up and give its civil power over to the system my prayer friends is that as we are looking forward as we are going forward in our study to this time may we pray that we find ourselves faithful to be able to stand when that time comes i pray that this made sense to each and every one of us and with that let us conclude with the word of prayer borrow your heads with me father in heaven i pray that these things made sense i pray that we will go back to our bibles and study as the bereans to make sure that these things are so guide us and help us to be faithful in these last days to be able to stand against deception and in turn stand for the truth we pray in jesus christ's name amen [Music] so [Music] [Music] you
