started to replace creative jobs with AI for example instead of hiring concept artists ad agencies are using AI to generate hundreds of potential scenarios in a fraction of the time even gaming companies are using AI to generate posters and promotional art for their releases it's your worst fear as an artist coming to life or is it in an online discussion with pear mangakas a mangaka by the pen Nam Duron who debuted with a manga called ketchup ninja was personally excited about AI he shared I know there are a lot of people against AI especially in the English-speaking world but I personally want AI to make my job easier on his YouTube channel Yohi Sadima a former manga editor who had worked worked at Japanese publishing company kodanja for over 20 years also encouraged a budding mangaka to use chat GPT to generate story ideas or check if his plot had any potential points for improvement let's face it making manga as a pro is a tough gig taking up insane hours just to meet such tight deadlines sitting at your desk and drawing for hours on end it's a grueling process that's taken its toll on many mangakas for example Hunter Hunter has been Infamous for its irregular chapter schedules that's because the mangaka yoshihiro Togashi developed severe back pain issues this made it impossible for him to even sit at a desk for two years putting the manga on indefinite Hiatus even one of the artists in clamp the creator of tobasa reservo Chronicles and card copter Sakura was diagnosed with a serious fracture caused by constantly sitting in in a chair for hours today there are no laws in Japan stopping mangakas from working 18-hour work days just to finish a manga chapter and meet a tight deadline they're constantly overworked and are quite literally breaking their backs for their art now mangakas like dur mon sente are beginning to see how AI could help fix that maybe they'll even start to get a life AI image generators or text to image AI can be time Savers and potentially LIF savers for Pro mangakas in the case of rootport he used the AI image generator tool mid journey to quickly generate all the images and scenes he needed for his panels how exactly did he do this well in the aid driven world the key to creating great images lies in crafting effective prompts what's a prompt in simple terms writing prompts is about describing the images you want in text form to the AI so if rootport wanted to make an image of a medium shot of a mysterious old lady with Messy white hair wearing goggles with heavy smoke around her while she's counting money he would type that prompt in and voila the AI creates an image from scratch just from that description that's how most AI image generators work the AI understands your words and converts them to a unique image each time and anyone can use it with AI image generators mangakas could speed up the manga making process reducing the amount of time spent on different stages of the process like looking for the perfect reference image or conceptualizing the right scene mangakas could spend more time improving the quality of their stories it all sounds so easy but there are limits to what you could do with these AI tools when it comes to making manga like how AI can't replicate existing characters in new poses or with different facial expressions or how AI can't even make accurate human hands sometimes rootport face these same problems that's why the first AI generated manga was mostly limited to head shot or bust shots and rarely featured full body characters the tech is far from perfect so you'll need to go through a lot of trial and error with these tools even if you type in a description for your image chances are you won't get the exact image you had in your head you'll either have to just keep regenerating the image with the same description until you get what you want or you rework your text prompt so you be even more specific as rootport said AI cannot yet create a perfect work on its own Human Assistance is essential so no the apocalypse isn't here yet robots are not threatening to take over the world and you don't have to worry about AI taking over mangaka jobs anytime soon rather you got to learn to embrace it I mean if you really think about it digital art didn't exist until what 30 years ago mangakas were doing everything traditionally and they learned to adapt to new tools like Photoshop and clip Studio AI is just another tool we can use to our advantage even then it's not the tools that make a great manga it's the brain and creativity behind it we want to share what pear mangaka dur on Sensei said about this I'm not worried about AI stealing work opportunities from me I'm more worried about other mangakas that's just how this industry is mangaka's competing for work since people in the PE manga industry have started to use AI we wanted to experience this for ourselves we've checked different text to AI tools and here's our top three we suggest you experiment and try them out for your next manga the top of the list is Comic AI next is comic coms maker Ai and the third is doll E3 on chat GPT compared to a lot of other AI image generators out there these three are the easier more beginner friendly options that reliably produce great results for making manga in comparing to different tools we use the same storyline with similar paneling and scenarios so we can better compare the experience and results FYI even though the first AI generated manga was created using mid Journey we actually felt like it was better for concept art and illustrations rather than manga the doll E3 on chat gbt and mid Journey are actually quite similar they can both generate all kinds of images in different art styles but we think doll E3 can accurately generate images that are closer to the traditional Manga style you see today plus we found do E3 way easier to use overall also a disclaimer we're not affiliated with any of these tools we just simply wanted to show you guys what your options are and hopefully we can help you make your manga creation process a lot easier now let's move on to the top one AI image generator on our list comic AI is one of the best free AI tools for actually making manga it covers the entire manga creation process from script writing to character design to panel layout to various fonts templates and even dialogue boxes but there's one thing you'll need to actually use comic AI to its full potential really strong prompting skills you'll understand why this is important in a bit to get the most out of comic AI first you have to type in your plot in the story Builder if you've ever struggled with writing then this is a godsend the AI can even write the whole story for you it's great for generating story ideas you can even use it to selfcheck if there's extra room for improvement after that the AI takes the names of your characters and automat automatically generates their character designs based on their initial descriptions in your plot you can choose to fine-tune the character descriptions in the prompt box and regenerate the characters until you're happy with the design you can also generate as many characters as you want and save them in your library once you're done with your story and character designs comic AI takes all of this and breaks it down into prompts it automatically generates panels creating scenes that would match your plot you can customize each panel further by editing the prompts we're not at the best part yet comic AI actually has this really unique and awesome feature that makes it stand out from the other image generators it allows you to edit parts of your image and really customize the scene to fit your vision it's called the regional modification feature it allows you to highlight the exact area you want to make your changes and then you type in the prompt indicating the change you want the AI to make for examp example I generated the scene of the female protagonist Maya she's walking down the street but I pictured her wearing a long coat so I highlighted her torso and told the AI that she's supposed to be wearing a long coat with a white blouse underneath while wearing silver jewelry comic AI just changed the exact part of the image while the rest of it stayed the same pretty neat right after you're done fine-tuning your scenes you can then move on to organizing all all your scenes into panels on a page if you're using the free version of comic AI you have limited number of panel shape options these are the only shapes you can use for your panels options are also limited for speech bubbles effects and font types but in the end I managed to put together good panel layouts for a short three-page manga in just an hour and a half because of the limited panel sizes and layout it took a lot of back and forth between rewriting prompts to change the scenes to actually fit the flow of the story story out of the three tools on our list comic AI is the only AI Imaging tool that had everything aaka would need it primarily focuses on storytelling and then transforming the stories into Comics or Manga unlike mid journey and SD comic AI places a stronger emphasis on maintaining consistency in characters and scenes making it perfect for aspiring mangakas although it did sometimes generate odd Li too what is that while the free PL for Comic AI only has a limited set of features it does provide new users with a sizable amount of website currency upon signup you'll have more than enough coins to play around with the AI for a bit and find your footing the second tool on our list is Comics maker AI it's an image generator specifically designed for making Comics or in this case manga if you want to make manga though you only have three anime art styles to choose from with the free version their panel generator panel crater light only has limited features unlike comic AI Comics maker AI doesn't have a separate character design feature so make sure to set aside a list of your prompts for every character in your story when you start generating panels copy paste those prompts into the ai's prompt box then add in the details of the scene you want to create from our experience generating panels with two specific characters in one scene is actually kind of tricky you have to write a pretty long prompt describing each character and how they're interacting even with all that effort the images you end up with may still be really far from what you describe basically it's not that great when it comes to character consistency and scene accuracy it took over an hour to create the characters and generate all the scenes that I needed and even then there were some scenes that I still wasn't satisfied with sometimes the AI would generate images of the female protagonist Maya in glasses and sometimes it wouldn't her clothes would also constantly change plus generating close-up shots of Limbs was really painful nearly every image showed weird looking hands or feet image organization was also pretty messy you keep every single image you generate so you can't even delete any of the bad ones that come up as a result when you're actually making your pages and combining panels you have to scrub through so many images to look for the ones you wanted to use you can freely resize panels but shapes are limited to squares and rectangles and you can only add in speech bubbles and narration boxes in the page editor no other comic or Manga effects overall Comics maker AI really relies on detailed prompting some scenes I generated required lengthy prompts of over 30 plus words however it is good for arranging basic manga pages though with little Variety in terms of layout and effects the free version may have limited features but I still managed to create this decent three-page manga in Just 2 hours if you want access to more features like trading characters to achieve more consistency in your character designs you would have to buy and spend side credits you might not be able to create top quality fully rendered manga pages but you can still use this AI for storyboarding or even just simply coming up with references this AI is also good at generating various settings and backgrounds so you could potentially incorporate that in your manga doll E3 is an AI image generator you can find on chat GPT it was created by open AI the same company that created chat GPT so you're sure that they know what they're doing you get the full potential of this tool if you have a business or Enterprise chat GPT account we know not everyone would be able to get access to that but we still decided to include it in the list doll E3 produces highquality images and the prompting experience was relatively easy it's perfect for beginners who are not only new to making manga but also new to using AI what's great about doll E3 is that you can write prompts like you're conversing with a person you can use simple or even longer highly detailed descriptions and the AI always accurately generates pro-looking manga panels and it's usually close to what you describe you barely get any ambiguous features or weird abstract images characters are anatomically accurate and always turn out looking beautifully rendered no weird limbs or stray toes inight doll E3 also has a pretty great memory and can generate consistent looking characters no matter how many times you make changes or regenerate the image when it comes to purely image Generation by far this AI is the most beginner friendly on the list the biggest downside is that it doesn't allow you to customize combine or rearrange your panels in an actual manga format what you can do is generate the images you need download them and then arrange them into panels on another editing platform like Photoshop or canva in this case I used canva doll E3 sometimes struggles to generate speech bubbles if there's a lot of dialogue so you'll have to manually edit them yourself plus when you try to generate let's say a four panel manga the panels usually come out in random order and don't entirely makes sense having to manually put together your panels and doing these edits may sound timec consuming but it actually wasn't so bad it only took me about 2 hours to finish this three-page manga about an hour and a half to generate all the images for each panel and 30 minutes editing them together on canva I only made minimal edits and added a few effects comparing the results from all three AI tools I'd say the manga from doll E3 is easily the best looking it actually looks more like a traditional manga it was also the smoothest experience out of the three I didn't need to regenerate images as much if I had any edits for certain panels doll E3 would get it right in just a few tries I know you're probably really excited to try out all these new AI tools like right after this video but we'd like to leave you with a word of caution yes AI art generation makes the manga creation process so much easier and faster but there are still some ethical concerns related to plagiarism copyright infringement and the source of the trading data used by these AI models in case you're not aware these AI image generators analyze billions of different artworks and images from different artists artists who didn't consent for their art to be used nor do they get paid when someone generates an image that looks like a ripoff of their art style you don't want to get into trouble we highly advise you not to monetize any of the AI art you generate by selling it as your own to avoid any issues we advise you to use AI as a tool to enhance your creative process get story ideas generate reference images or even concept art for your designs I mean sometimes it takes time to find the perfect reference for a specific setting location or pose right especially if the sort of scenes you're looking for are kind of out of this world and a little bit more Fantastical let's say you want to draw Tokyo underwater but you don't know exactly how that would look you can use an AI image generator and you can get your answer right away saves you a lot of time right whether you're against or for AI art the reality is that it's here to stay and it'll continue to be a part of
