I'm back in the reloading lair today with the Taurus raging hunter welcome range fans mr. revolvers got here with day at the range calm as you guys can see the Taurus raging hunter is safe to talk about because we have the orange safety disc in the cylinder that indicates there's no rounds in the cylinder at all so today we're going to get to a little table top on the Taurus raging hunter this is a line that was released in 2019 by Taurus we're going to start out with a quick overview and then we're going to hit to the range and put some rounds down range of probably the best balanced revolver in 44 Magnum I have ever laid my hands on and I'll get to why here in a moment but we're gonna start with the butt of the pistol Taurus is kind of really known for their nice ergonomic grips and also the gel pad on the inside of the grips right there that really makes for soft recoil we're gonna test it on the range today just to see how soft it is but they've added some nice touches to this Taurus raging hunter some of those touches are kind of reminds you a little bit of the Smith & Wesson Performance Center now before you submit the Wesson fans go absolutely nuts over that comment am I saying this is equivalent to the Smith & Wesson Performance Center what I am saying is that this is the top of the line the raging Hunter series is the top of the line for Taurus and I can say I will say from just the slight overview that I've looked at it before bringing it out and putting it on camera for you guys no machine marks anywhere seems to be well put together the trigger is also very very nice so let's start at the butt of the weapon again with the grips as we talked about you got the orange gel pad but again that nice little touch of adding the Taurus goal in lay insignia in the butt or in the grips of the revolver which I think's adds a nice little touch there and then you move up and you see we have a square we have the square hammer not your traditional teardrop hammer that you would see come from Smith & Wesson the square hammer does have really nice grip and again you can see there that it's not like the Smith & Wesson of old that a lot of us really like with the firing pin on the hammer the firing pin is in the frame moving down to the trigger the trigger has a wide really really raw wide smooth target trigger the trigger comes in on the trigger gauge at 12 pounds double action something they've done with the single action that is absolutely beautiful for me is the single action comes in at five pounds again the double action trigger comes in at 12 pounds on the trigger gauge and the single action comes in at about five pounds now moving up to the frame of the revolver which is made out of steel and you can see the entire weapon is is black in this pistol this 44 Magnum is all black there's a a rubber guard that comes on top of a really nice adjustable rear sight this adjustable rear sight is adjustable for windage and also adjustable for elevation we'll put that back on and the cylinder is a six shot fluted cylinder now let's get to why I really think this thing is so balanced and also gives it just a mean look that it has this 5.1 inch barrel of 44 Magnum which I think is going to be the sweet spot for Taurus if you're listening that 5.1 inch barrel this is an aluminum shroud over the top of a steel barrel the aluminum shroud does come with a Picatinny rail on top now one thing about the five-point inch barrel that I do want to make everyone aware of and this is to gotchas for this revolver that when you're talking about a scale of one to five stars five stars being the best I would give this revolver four stars the reason I take away one whole complete star or the two reasons I take away one whole complete star arm on this aluminum shredded or shroud that you have over the top of the barrel is the Picatinny rail as I stated now this Picatinny rail I've tried to mount two different pistol scopes on top of it but because of the length of the pistol scopes there's just not enough room to get both rings on this aluminum shroud so therefore for me if tor sees this video and wants to reach out please reach out to mr. revolver guy at day at the range comm and maybe inform me what's the best way and what scope what rings should be used with the revolver the rings go on plenty fine without the scope but due to the adjustment knobs on the scopes that I have both Leupold due to the adjustment knobs there's just you just can't squeeze the Rings in tight enough to make them fit on this on the short shroud on this Picatinny rail so it makes me wonder why that's even there other than just looks because I will tell you I think it gives it a pretty mean look the other reason I take one complete star or half a star way that total to one complete star is the front sight front sight is really really nice folks but it's all black it is all black what you're seeing there is the owner of this pistol that loaned it to me for this particular review which I thank very much has already painted the front sight white which I would have done the same thing either white or orange but something to contrast the rear sight that's all black really really nice adjustable rear that's all black you got to have something at least for my eyes at this day and age you got to have something that contrasts on the front sight that's a little bit opposite than the rear sight but again this is the raging hunter made for hunting but we're going to take it out to the range and see what kind of range fun we can have but before we do let's finish talking about the barrel and traditional fashion Taurus is all at times can be bashed for porting everything just about everything in their portfolio and this one is no different this 5.1 inch barrel the steel frame is ported and you have four ports on each side of the barrel that should help with recoil moving on to the front of the barrel the front of the barrel has I don't know if you can see that but the front of the barrel there has a bushing that pretty much tightens down on the barrel and keeps it inside of this aluminum surround I got to tell you really really mean looking pistol and it just had aluminum shroud out front with that steel barrel just makes it balance so well the other thing that Taurus is known for in their raging series is the double lock for the cylinder so you have the traditional lock at the rear and then you have to pull down on the front latch as well some don't like that I say it would make for a slow reload and have them having to maneuver both locks that get the cylinder to fly open but I know one thing it makes it lock up really really tight the other thing that I have noticed with this steel barrel is that I compared this steel barrel and the thickness of this steel barrel to the Smith & Wesson revolver which is actually a Performance Center revolver 629 and I compared the thickness by putting calipers on it and this barrel is absolutely thicker than the Smith & Wesson and then when you look at an old Taurus that I have just the traditional 44 Magnum eight inch barrel from Taurus oh my gosh it's almost as twice as thick on the raging hunter than on their standard line which should make for longevity and also robustness in this pistol I got to tell you I am really excited to have this one and to get this one out to the range today that's the quick overview for the Taurus raging hunter released in 2019 let's get out to the range and put some rounds downrange and see how it handles all right range fans I'm on the range with that raging hunter from Taurus newly released in 2019 I've got a box of MagTek 240 grain ammo we're gonna put some double action into the center of the target downrange single action at the head of the target see how the recoil handles with the ported barrel see how it all feels again folks this is the most balanced 44 Magnum frame gun of this size pistol of this size that I've ever handled and that is my honest opinion and I think it all has to do that I spoke about earlier this aluminum shroud which gives it this vicious look over a steel barrel let's see if I can get so right there you can see how thick that barrel profile is I mean I think this this thing is made for hunting of course that's what Taurus released it for but we're gonna have some fun with it on the range I believe you'll get plenty of longevity out of the Taurus raging hunter let's put some double action rounds downrange with this 12 pound trigger I'm ten yards away and I've got my camera up down range for those of you that know I shot my camera a couple of range outings ago have it way away from the target and zoomed in at this point because it's my cell phone so let's see how this works out 240 grain magtec not bad feels good Magtech rocks it a little bit for sure but man got a pretty good group downrange recoil doesn't feel all that bad doesn't come up as much I think that all has to do with the porting but this grip really feels good but I've got some big mitts feet people something really big mitts if you can't tell and this is just really really nice let's break out the old some 240 gram matter Tex yet again let's see we can do single action downrange loaded up with some magtec's those magtec's previously fired magtec's ejected just great people no stickiness is all at all again I really looked over this revolver looking for machining marks kind of the things that but I got to tell you I can't find any machine marks on this thing there is a little bit to be fair a little bit of machining mark around the firing pin hole up there but it's nothing that I haven't seen on Smith & Wesson nothing that I haven't seen on Taurus I'm really digging this revolver many say just for the new shooters out there that porting makes it much louder really kind of hard for me to tell without a sound meter hopefully to invest in one of those in the future so we can do that kind of testing on day at the range but let's do a single action at the head from ten yards away downrange and see how she does with a five pound single action trigger nice and smooth no take up take a shot better double action at least a tighter group double action Wow really nice they'll hide it you too tight a group double action let's see if we could get the opening of this thing on camera see this is what I was telling you about the double lock mechanisms push this one forward pull this one down folks and then the cylinder swings right open again not my borrowed so I want to be extra careful with this I do believe in though I'm shooting it I do believe in returning them clean to the rightful owners and I really appreciate the owner that lomi this for a quick review it will be clean it'll look brand-new when he gets it back let's uh let's put up a shoot and see downrange and do some double double tap drills I've got some 44 special let's do some double tap drills and see how that works with a 12-pound trigger this should prove to be pretty interesting I've got a Caldwell orange peel and stick target downrange that uh I'm gonna try to do a little double tap with this 12 pound trigger I haven't pulled the trigger much on this thing other than being out here on the range and getting the weight of the trigger itself and single and double action yep that's right folks I'm making excuses but should be fun double tap with the Taurus raging hunter and 44 Magnum whoo a little bit all over the place man I only got two on the Caldwell target that's a pretty interesting indication of me jerking the trigger but don't go anywhere folks cuz I'm gonna try this one more time might have to slow it down a little bit but let's get some 44 special this time and cheat a little bit and see what I can do all right this time folks we got a little lighter load in here let's see how we do whoo little smokey - that's because those are my 44 special reloads I got to tell you I am truly truly pleased with the Taurus raging hunter and I think I might have to get myself one of these it is truly a refined piece of machinery looks are just awesome to me anyways but more importantly the function to fit the accuracy is just as you have seen on target is if you do your part it is absolutely guaranteed to take down that deer hog or whatever you might be hunting that's applicable for the 44 Magnum thank you for joining me today that day at the rage calm with the Taurus raging hunter mr. revolver guy signing out I couldn't leave just yet folks I'm 20 yards out on the bench this Taurus has just done something to me sting is stout accurate and I just couldn't leave just yet so we're gonna shoot it shoot six rounds from the old hand rest and see how well we can do at 20 yards see if it truly is a hunter all right she will get it done that's for sure Oh on target but a little right still within a boy's hide oh yeah what a revolver last round Wow what a revolver folks I got to tell you if you're looking for a well refined economical revolver that you don't have to pay through the roof for look no further than the raging hunter from Taurus mr. revolver guy signing out
