starvation or exposure the first one it's going to get you is dehydration where every effort to find fresh water it's salt water has failed to get off this island alive I'm afraid if we jump in right here we're gonna head straight out to sea they'll have to risk it all don't look now but we've got some company below us oh a little bit more speed though less pressure more speed [Music] I don't know what is not working right with this thing the mechanics is working it's smoking like crazy but the bottom line is we don't have an emerald life is that what do you got let me take this away take a look [Music] and we got it this time nice oh I see that little glowing cherry and I'm like yes that's exactly what we're looking for that was a great idea well worth a swim thanks sir I've got the coal in the nest it's all wrapped up like a little baby and I'm just gonna give it a nice gentle breeze from the social air that Ocean Air is just gonna kiss it and blow it into the flame real nice let me go grab some bigger sticks [Music] got the fire sure with that conduit that we pulled out of the wing now the idea is is those steam is going to come up through here as it travels through the pipe I wet this towel which is going to make the pipe cooler which will help that steam condense into water separating the salt which is going to remain in the fire extinguisher and the water is going to go here in the rum bottles pretty simple uh process I've got a couple drops but that ain't enough to keep an analife here we'll have to wait and see we'll give it some time here it's not bad it's not good that was one full container of that fire extinguisher you know that little bit of water that's like that's like two shot glasses full of water and we're behind right now on our water that's that's not enough we we've got to come up with another plan we are not making enough water with this desalinator to sustain life for two men it's impossible we have to find more water so here's here's what I'm thinking when I was on my way over to find you on the first day I saw another smaller island off the point down there so I think while we have the energy and the strength we should go check out that other Island unless you've got another idea I agree it doesn't look like it's gonna rain either no and right now Matt and I don't have another option for water we have to explore this other Island to find water because there's none here it out all right let's do it what we're going to do is a basic thing called ferrying we're gonna head Upstream get in the water and let the current push us towards the island because there's no fighting this stuff foreign knots right here I don't want to get drug out until the ocean here let's just keep kicking it we've got about a 400 meter swim with about a Four mile an hour rip current taking us out to sea and that's not good from at night boy this is tough getting out of here dude for sure it's like swimming River out what's up get the right side of the island Matt Don't Look Down we've got some company balloons see him slowly try not to Splash Waters of the Caribbean Sea are heavily populated with a variety of dangerous sharks including tiger black tip and bull all of which are known to be aggressive towards humans looks like we're still in pretty good position should we just keep heading for that rock Edge over there yeah man let's keep going dude let's keep going now that we're seeing sharks underneath we're being more cautious about the way we move through here we don't want to Splash around because sharks are attracted to the movement so we're gonna slide through here really easy Matt and I just got to This Little Rock of an island it was a rough swim we had a lot of things to contend with but now that we're here hopefully we can find some water oh yeah what do you got got some water dude this would solve a lot of problems hopefully it's fresh after walking through this thick brush Matt finds a hole that is filled with water but my concern is is this fresh water or salt water because this is reminding me of that Lagoon that I found no foreign that sucks I found water as well but look how that turned out that was salt water you cannot use it hopefully this stuff is fresh give me some good news man [Music] nothing pure fresh in the freaking water it's good where'd you get that sense of humor from I learned it from you yeah okay to come across a pocket like this it's a huge huge blessing like you know that now you have a chance to survive here we're gonna collect the water here and bring it back to our camp on the other Island so the risk is going to be coming back and forth across that water with the sharks oh yeah that's pretty good amount right there oh dude that's at least three or four gallons right now we've got enough water for at least a few days we could stretch out that water a week if we had to so we're gonna bring it back to camp and start boiling it and have drinking water foreign [Music] supply of fresh water on hand Joe and Matt now put all of their efforts into transforming resources from the downed plane as well as the Island's natural resources into effective signaling devices and as you can see it's white I'm on some black rocks here so I've got some decent contrast and movement in the wind signal fires are great however somebody's got to man them and we already have bits and pieces of this fuselage and other things that we retrieve from the wreck that we can use that's going to work just as well at an adjacent Point Matt uses parts of two different local trees and some fabric strips from one of the shirts he recovered from the plane to draw further attention to this side of the island that should be good right there I've got three lined up so three is the universal distress signal and it's creating contrast you can see that it's blowing in the wind now if we do see a play in our boat we can grab one of those and wave it around it's a makeshift lag when you don't have a lot of material to work with more sand out of the crack of my last two days I have in the last year rocking the tie-dye there I'm digging it I'll still keep my distance no worries thanks no stall points here brother well at least you're getting plenty of Breeze there I am you know resource is a resource man if this is a damn g string I'd be wearing it right now my other shorts stunk so bad I couldn't stand them anymore I'm glad it wasn't a g string yeah it could have been ugly yeah tell me about it seemed pretty relaxed running around tie-dye coming to Nature Boy dude no don't get your hopes up brother I think you might just want to stick around for a while no good night Nature Boy go to sleep dude wear short shorts what do you got there bro I've been working on a fish spear taking all the different parts from the plant it'll be good if I have a smaller fish that I'm chasing down in the shallows yeah because when the fish hits slides spread that out and then open it up and hold the fish nice dude well thought out very nice then I took the tube and made a single Barb so it'll penetrate really nicely and then basically just nicked out some spots to get some barbs so it'll hold the fish if I have to throw it like a javelin yeah I've been spearfishing for years it's a big part of what I've used for survival and I'm not seeing a lot of animal life on this island so I feel like the best Focus right now is to focus on the sea where is the rod that you didn't use yes that right there might have a go at making something myself cool in a situation like this you're gonna have to replenish your calories Matt and I made some berries and some sea grapes that's it that's not gonna cut it there's fish in the water we need to go find some I was thinking about fishing The Sandbar if you want to fish that side over there yeah the Tide's gone out there's some tidal pools over there too I saw yeah if you want to go check it out for sure I'll be right here dude while Matt heads off to hunt for fish with his two Spears Joe takes the remaining Rod which he salvaged from the plane and gets to work on his own fishing device what I'm thinking about doing is taking this can punching a hole in both sides and using that kind of like as an aimer uh for the spear and in using this tubing is the back part of it to launch it we've salvaged a lot of stuff off that plane I'm going to use the can some tubing and some of the wire to make a poor man spear gun and hopefully go find a fish for Matt and I to eat tonight I need something in between this kind of like a slingshot is what I'm going to take is a piece of this something like that something you can actually grab onto while Joe hits the rocky Coastline with his spear gun Matt takes advantage of high tide and stalks the shallow waters on the Island's Sandy side as I'm exploring the island I'm trying to get a feel for the Behavior's different fish some are more skittish than others and some are going to hold still just saw the surface of the water break out there's a big wide spot I'm gonna go check that spot out it's a big learning curve I'm having to do here in one day but I'm getting to know the spot and I feel like there's a good chance I'll come up with something [Music] there's a pocket right in here and it looks like there's a ray buried in the sand I come across this dark hole and it's a little bit murky down there and I see what looks like the tail of a stingray pretty pretty good size one I think it might be our best best chance for a meal it's got a long Stinger on it thingrays can grow to over six feet and then weigh over 700 pounds they're Barbed Stingers May reach lengths of 14 inches and contain Venom which can be deadly to humans although mostly docile when threatened a stingray will defend itself by quickly whipping its Barb over its body and penetrating the Flesh of whatever is in front of it [Music] thank you I think I missed it take the shot Wham all I hit is a Sandy Bottom it's actually a false alarm there's a stick down there it looks like a stinger that Stinger of a tail didn't even move happened to be just a stick down there looks like a red snapper I think he got stuck in here when the tide went down I'm not really familiar how red snapper is going to react when I throw a spirit so I'm keeping my Approach really gentle and careful foreign shot hits a mid body I rush in to make sure it doesn't slip off I got this gorgeous red snapper it's amazing meal best way to kill a fish that size is just a Swift hit and on the back of the skull say a little prayer just if there's a spirit or life in that animal that it goes on to a beautiful place and then it's blessings all the way because we got meat and we got fuel really excited about this fish that's gonna be a great meal for us oh I smell something yeah oh dude I struck out man I didn't even see a fish bigger than two inches long that's all right I think this guy will feed both of us tonight dude freaking home run grouper what does that thing that's a red snapper nice job man I'm so excited about this fish done yeah that's looking great oh man bring over your plate yeah oh man that's so nice it's a shame we got to dump the rum out yeah now we got water I know we've got food we got berries be a celebration yeah well it already is a second yeah I gotta be thankful for this this is nice I'm feeling a lot better oh I'm feeling a lot better I did this morning I got to tell you we're gonna sleep comfortable tonight you know and we're out here another day Dawns on their tiny Island Joe and Matt reluctantly begin to settle into their new environment they have succeeded in finding food shelter fire and fresh water now all they can do is add to those resources and wait to be found Matt got a fish the other night I was unsuccessful I didn't even see a fish bigger than that so I'm going out again today but this time I'm gonna bring one of Matt Spirits along as well I'd like to have a secondary weapon you never know what's going to come along so what I'm going to do is work my way around this corner this is where you're gonna find fish hanging out right now up in these little rock out croppings as I'm moving along I see something moving in the water and I couldn't quite tell what it was but as I get closer it's very distinctive there's there's a lionfish right there lionfish can sting a person with Venom delivering spines that can be sharper than a hypodermic needle they have been called one of the most aggressively invasive species on the planet they're considered a delicacy if prepared correctly high in omega-3 and low in heavy metals these lionfish don't have electrical Predators so it's not going to be that skittish so I'm probably going to get a decent shot at it [Music] this isn't a fish then I'm going to stick my hand in there this thing's a lionfish the barbs on its back and on its side are very venomous so I think I got them oh yeah these fish are like handling a live grenade you've got to be very very careful with them they've got 18 spines on their top and on the side so before you start cleaning a fish like this you've got to take those off see these right here he's still alive so I'm not going to mess with them right now but these things right here are extremely venomous if you're allergic to it'll throw in anaphylactic shock just bad business all the way around so I'm gonna make sure this thing's dead for short he ain't dead yet but he's about to be Now Matt and I got food for tonight for someone in this situation you've got to replenish your calories you're working hard you're out in the sun this is a huge score these things are real pain in the butt to work with but the bottom line is one fish a day for two grown men out here is not enough food so the more fish we can kill the more energy we're going to have to be able to improve our situation I'm taking these things off first make it safe to handle last thing I need right now is to get anaphylactic shock out here dinner's on me tonight I've got to hold up my end and getting this fish is going to help us out a lot you know these things are beautiful to look at but bottom line is we're hungry and uh we need food and that's that oh yeah that's a nice about a quarter pound of fish nothing wrong with that see if I can find some more on the way back but at least I got something a joke hey [Music] I'm starting to turn though he's heading back the direction he came [Music] I look back and the plane's gone no he's circling back here he comes [Music] here he comes oh yeah oh yeah [Music] that's what that's all about in a long-term survival scenario you've got to work every day to improve your situation it's the only way to stay alive stuck on a deserted island be prepared for the Long Haul get as many signals up as you can but after that you just got to call it your home [Music] oh
