Hi welcome back I'm Donkey! Buying an OLED screen and getting a laptop is a series we have been doing for three consecutive years. The main focus is to choose a laptop with OK specifications, OK performance, and OK price in all aspects on the premise of choosing a top-notch screen ! Today I’m going to update the 2024 version of the buy top OLED screen and get a free laptop series! This year, for the first time, we have subdivided the theme of "Buy OLED, Get a Free Laptop" into two orientations . The first demand is for a top-end OLED screen + paired with a high-performance laptop. We have already driven one called ASUS Vivobook Pro. 15 OLED is very suitable for students or creators who have limited budget but have editing needs, modeling and other design needs . Today we are going to fill another pit, which is a laptop that also uses a top-notch OLED screen, but it will It’s thin, light, document-oriented, and priced to be more affordable ! Bonnie, help you. I want to know that my performance requirements are not very high. I usually just do paperwork, write Word, and do Excel at most. I open Photoshop Illustrator and make some pictures at most and play Minecraft for a few games. Is there any LOL ? Recommended choices Oh , by the way , don’t forget that I also want a top-notch OLED screen. This person has too many requirements , but it doesn’t matter. We have already prepared it. The one I have is from the ASUS Vivobook S series. Let’s first take a look at the specifications of the new ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. This laptop uses a 16-inch high-resolution screen with a resolution of 3200 x 1800 and 3.2K. We have also carefully selected all important specifications. After careful selection, this one also has a high screen refresh rate of 120Hz and is more suitable for writing documents and drawings. The screen ratio of 16:10 is really comfortable for drafting and making reports . MyASUS also has sRGB DCI-P3 and Display. P3's built-in color gamut adjustment options make it easier to create, and it also has ASUS's signature OLED Care and low-brightness anti-flicker. The color gamut, color accuracy, and brightness are all top-notch performance at this price. There is really nothing to say about this screen. We will analyze the measured data of this screen in detail later. Anyway, looking at the entire laptop market, this is a very top screen at the moment. There really aren’t many competitors! In terms of specifications, there are two versions to choose from: the AI generation Intel Core Ultra 5 processor 125H and the top-of-the-line Core Ultra series Core Ultra 9 processor 185H. The choice is also very simple, and there is no image processing requirement. It is purely for top-level OLED. For friends who choose this screen, the Ultra 5 version is very sufficient. It has 16GB RAM and 1TB storage space. The key point is that the price is only 36,900. It has a top-notch 3.2K 120Hz screen. It is very comfortable to use for documents. It has sufficient specifications . If you have image processing needs or Normally, if document loading is more important, choose the Ultra 9 processor. The RAM will also be increased to 32GB, which will be more than enough to open a bunch of windows, web pages, and draw pictures. This machine also has a built-in Copilot button! The key point is that although the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED is a 16-inch laptop , its weight is very well controlled. It is only 1.5kg. It is also very light for a 16-inch model. In addition, this year’s ASUS Vivobook S series actually has a 14-inch version called ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED is 3000 cheaper , but this year I really recommend going straight to the 16-inch version because for just 3000 more you can upgrade from the 14-inch WUXGA (1920x2000) 60 Hz OLED to the top-of-the-line 16-inch 3.2K (3200 x 2000) 120Hz OLED. The OLED storage space has also been upgraded from 512GB to 1TB. The key point is that the weight is actually only 200g more , about the weight of a mobile phone. As long as you don't have to go to a 14-inch screen , I really recommend going to a 16-inch large screen. It is more comfortable and more comfortable to use ! After talking about the specifications, let’s quickly talk about the actual experience. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Is this OLED screen really good enough when measured with professional instruments? In short , let’s take a look at the overall performance of this year’s ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. First of all Looking at the appearance, this year's ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED has the same design ID as the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 OLED we unboxed not long ago. Both adopt the new version of the 2024 facelift design ID, which is more biased than the previous ASUS Vivobook series. This year's ASUS Vivobook has a vibrant, simple and colorful design style. It has completely changed into a simple texture style. I personally think that if you look at this side A, this side B, and this side B, and this side C, the texture is really much better this time. The black version is also really black and very thorough. From a distance, it has a business sense of a high-end series. The A-side also uses a whole matte black metal upper cover with a new version of the ASUS Vivobook Logo. The design is clean and neat with no redundant. The matte surface treatment is also relatively thick. Although the reflectivity is relatively high , for a black model, this kind of coating is less likely to attract fingerprints. Even if there are any, it will be easier to wipe clean. In addition to the black on our hands, there is also blue. The version is officially called Misty Blue. The 14-inch model also has a pink rose gold version. The configuration of the I/O connectors this time is also more reasonable. The main connectors are placed on the left side, including an HDMI 2.1 The connector is only an 18Gbps version , which means it can output up to 4K@60Hz or 8K@30Hz images. It is followed by two USB C holes and is very sincere. Both C holes also support Thunderbolt 4 , so they can reach 40Gbps high-speed transmission. Both holes also support image output and PD charging. It is worth mentioning that although this device officially comes with a 90W charger , in fact, if you have a 100W PD charger, these two C holes can reach the peak value after our actual testing. 92 93W supports 100W PD protocol, so if you often take it out for use, I recommend you to prepare an additional small-sized 100W PD charger, which will be more comfortable to use . There is also a 3.5mm MicroSD card reader. The USB A jacks are concentrated on the right side. USB A jacks are concentrated on the right side. It will be more convenient to connect a keyboard, mouse or receiver. The two USB A jacks are not included. They are all USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 A holes that can reach 5Gbps transmission speed. It is quite sincere to say that 2 A holes plus 2 C holes plus an HDMI is a very sufficient connector configuration for a document machine, and both C holes are Thunderbolt 4. It would be perfect if the MicroSD could be replaced with a standard size. But since this is not a creator-oriented model, it doesn’t matter. In terms of weight, Bonnie actually measured the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED alone at about 1.54 kilograms. After adding the original charger, it is about It falls at 1.92 kg. For a 16-inch model, the weight control is very beautiful. Don’t forget that the specifications of this machine are the Ultra 9 version. The TDP can handle 50W Loading. It can also handle heavier documents or AI applications more easily, and it can be regarded as a document. It’s a bit wild. According to actual tests, the upper cover can be opened and closed with one hand and reaches an opening and closing angle of 180 degrees. When we open it and see the B side, we can see at the first glance that this device has a very high screen-to-body ratio and a design with four narrow borders. It is very comfortable. There is a video lens on the top that supports Windows Hello facial recognition. This set of lenses also has a physical mask design. When closed, ASUS's classic orange dots will appear. Physically to avoid privacy leakage, and then there is the biggest highlight this time! ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED is equipped with a very, very beautiful 16-inch 3.2K OLED bright screen and has a high screen refresh rate of 120Hz. It also adopts a 16:10 screen ratio. The reason why 16:10 is specially mentioned is because when When you are doing paperwork, 16:10 has more upper and lower display area than the traditional 16:9. You can see more text and the height is more sufficient when it is divided into left and right screens. It is more convenient to write reports and make reports. It’s easy to use. If you use it for retouching or even simple editing, 16:10 will directly add one more layer in Photoshop, and the layers in Photoshop will be more clear. This is why more and more laptops are adopting the new ratio of 16:10. It's obviously better to use. Now let's move on to today's highlight. Let's test the screen performance. This time, MyASUS also has built-in color gamut adjustment options, including the default native sRGB DCI-P3 and Display P3. The four display modes can be quickly adjusted according to needs. We use professional instruments to actually measure the screen performance. Bonnie actually measured this year's ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. This screen is still very strong in native color gamut coverage, reaching 100% of sRGB, 96.7% of Adobe RGB and 99.9% of DCI- P3 color gamut coverage is the first echelon performance with the strongest color gamut coverage at present. In terms of color accuracy, we switched to the corresponding color gamut mode for actual measurement. First, we saw sRGB through Bonnie’s actual measurement of ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED in sRGB mode. The color gamut will be automatically limited to reach 99.7% of the sRGB color gamut coverage , and the color accuracy is also very beautiful . The average color Delta E is only 1.79. This number is less than 2, which means very excellent. The maximum Delta E is 4.84. In fact, it looks normal here. We can already conclude that "the color accuracy of this screen is good." However, this is not the best performance of this screen. It can be better. Let's take a closer look at the maximum Delta E of this screen. It is mainly affected by the white background. The balance setting drags down the CCT Delta E to about 4.5, which means that the white screen is slightly cooler. But rather than saying that it is not accurate enough , I would rather take this opportunity to talk to you in detail about the logic behind this setting and deliberately adjust the white balance to be cold. How can I say that this is actually a setting that is often made by mainstream brands ? The reason is that the current mainstream display standard follows D65 , which means white balance 6500K, which means that only a small number of them are above 7500K. This also means that most users who are accustomed to cold white screens will feel embarrassed when they suddenly use an accurate D65 screen . Is this screen yellow? So most mainstream brands will adjust it slightly cooler based on 6500K. Some mainstream brands will fall around 6800-7000K or even 7500K. But around 7000K you will feel that it is the one in your impression. It's white. This is why most CCT Delta E notebook phones in the mainstream price range tend to have a slightly cooler default white balance. So based on this logic, use the built-in manual white balance adjustment of MyASUS to adjust it slightly to the left by 15 points. You can make fine adjustments by clicking on the screen and using the direction keys . At this time, the average Delta E of sRGB can reach 1.34, and the maximum Delta E will also drop to 3.73, which is obviously more accurate. But at this point, please don’t follow us to adjust like this. The reason is that each screen Everyone's body is different. You must use an external color corrector to truly understand how to adjust or correct your screen. There is absolutely no one set of settings that can be applied to every screen. If your work requires an accurate white point. It is best to perform additional calibration , and the screen will age. Calibrating every six months or one year can maintain the best condition. However, for ordinary people, the default average color Delta E of this screen can already reach 1.79, which is already very good. Very accurate. The performance of PR98 and above is sufficient for ordinary users, but I am looking forward to it. The white balance adjustment of ASUS can directly mark the position of 6500K so that ordinary users can choose. We also tested the remaining modes and it can reach 99.7 in DCI-P3 mode. % of the DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, the color average Delta E comes to 1.73, and the maximum Delta E is 3.91 , which is very accurate. Under Display P3, it can also reach 99.6% of the color gamut coverage. The average color Delta E is 1.84, and the maximum Delta E is 4.04 , which is already a very good performance. In terms of brightness performance, we also measured that the maximum brightness can reach about 410 nits (slip of the tongue) when 100% of the display area is used indoors . When playing HDR images, it can reach a peak brightness of more than 600 nits. At the same time , this screen also has VESA DisplayHDR True Black The certified Bonnie of 600 also helps everyone test that it can successfully stream YouTube HDR. It is a pity that this unit does not have Dolby Vision , but it can light up NETFLIX's Dolby Atmos. In addition, if you are a new friend, we will briefly explain why everyone does it. One of the main reasons why I want to choose an OLED screen has been tested before. OLED has ultra-high color gamut coverage and is easier to achieve high color accuracy and uniformity than LCD. OLED also has another natural advantage . Pure black does not emit light. You can see from the screen on the left that this is a traditional LCD screen laptop. Even if it displays black, it will emit blue, blue, gray, and gray light. However, OLED here can completely turn off the pixels when displaying black, which means there are many pixels. People are talking about OLED, which has infinite contrast, is truly black, and does not have the uneven brightness problem of LCD. Especially if you use it to watch TV dramas, OLED is still the most powerful display technology on laptops. At the same time, OLED screens have several additional attributes , including low blue light and low latency . All combined, they are the reason why OLED is strong. On the other hand, OLED also has two shortcomings. The first is the problem of imprinting, but because the substrate materials have improved very much in recent years. Basically , under normal brightness , it is more difficult to produce burn-in even if you leave it for a long time. Secondly, for ASUS, there is an ASUS OLED Care setting in MyASUS. When you are idle, the screen will automatically enter pixel rearrangement. mode and ASUS also has a pixel shift setting to avoid burn-in. If you are very careful , you can also turn on the automatic hiding of the Windows toolbar to further avoid burn-in. In terms of PWM issues, this machine also has a low-brightness anti-flicker function. The method of use is very simple. Just turn on Windows Adjust the brightness in the settings to greater than 60% and then lower the brightness through MyASUS so that the anti-flicker function can be activated normally . Now that the screen is complete, we continue to look down. Then we see that the arrangement on the C side is still the familiar 16-inch ASUS Vivobook. The right side retains the physical numeric keys that everyone likes, but the direction keys are still not full size. And then the touchpad is still super large. The touchpad is easy to use . The smoothness and feedback of the touchpad are also good this time. It also has a silent design when pressed. What I like the most is this very square chocolate keycap. It looks very comfortable and neat. There is no color jump. The design is more mature and textured. There is a shortcut key on the top to quickly turn off the microphone. This is very easy to use. I feel that F11 is still empty. You can put another one to quickly turn off the camera. There is also a shortcut button for MyASUS. As a member of AI PC, of course, this machine also has a shortcut button for Copilot. Just press this Copilot button and you will see the Copilot next to it and it will pop up immediately. You can ask it any questions. The question is like asking him "What is the hottest technology topic on the Internet right now?" It will be like a little assistant that can help you organize relevant information or if you suddenly forget a formula in Excel, you can also ask it right away or You can also ask Copilot to help you summarize the key points of the current web page. For example, if this is an English press release, I will directly tell Copilot, "Help me summarize the key points of this web page." You can see that it will now summarize the key points of the entire web page. Listed in Chinese strips. In addition, the built-in clipping tool can not only take screenshots , but also has the function of text recognition. Just click on the icon after taking the screenshot to copy the text in the picture. There are also current small painters in the United States. The Cocreator function for generating images has also been opened. If you want to try it, you can just change the Windows setting region to the United States. But it doesn’t have to be so troublesome. Now Copilot also has the ability to generate images. For example, say to him "Generate an image." "Armored dinosaur with a sense of technology." Then wait for a moment and look at it. Four pictures will be generated for you to click on to see the big picture. The resolution is 1024x1024. You can also save it here . Another way to play is Copilot. In fact, it can understand the pictures you provide it. For example, there is a screenshot button directly here. Here, I took a screenshot of Bonnie's logo for you and asked him to generate a spaceship logo according to this style ! It will produce corresponding results on your side . Anyway, you can bother Copilot with any problem you think of. You just need to remember this Copilot button to call it out quickly. Another special thing is that this keyboard actually has a single button. The design default of RGB backlit keyboard is RGB cycle , but the brightness is a regular backlight performance, which is designed for dim environments rather than display-type high-brightness RGB. And this RGB can be controlled through Windows dynamic light effects, so just turn on the setting. Select Personalization and enter the dynamic light effects section to adjust the RGB effect, set color and brightness. In terms of hand feel, the film of this machine is soft and not smooth, but as a document machine, this is a setting that is more likely to get sore after being typed for a long time . The key travel is normal and there are no special surprises. However, the silent design is handled pretty well. Let’s go straight to the performance test without further ado ! What Bonnie tested this time was the top-end version of ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. It is mainly aimed at document users with high CPU requirements or friends with image processing requirements. If it is a pure document, as mentioned before, the Core Ultra 5 version is very powerful. It’s enough. The version we have is the new AI PC generation Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 185H , which is also the top choice of this year’s Core Ultra. It has 6 P-core + 8 E-core and 2 LP E-core. Total The 16-core 22-thread architecture is already a very strong CPU in terms of document positioning. This model does not have independent graphics but uses Intel Arc internal graphics. The Ultra 9 version is equipped with 8 Xe-core frequencies and comes at full health. It is a 2.35 GHz version , but it seems that there is still a lot of space inside that can be stuffed. As you can imagine, if it is stuffed full, it will become heavier. In other words, if you want to take apart this machine, there are three small places to go. Note that first, there is a screw under the rubber pad. Remember to pick it up and remove it . Second , there is also a screw under the black trim piece . However, ASUS actually uses hard plastic for this trim piece , so you need to find a screw to remove it. Be careful with the angle. It is recommended that ASUS replace it with a silicone pad in the future. It will be easier to remove. The D side of the last one is a lightweight metal back cover, so its edges are cut very, very thin. Be careful when disassembling and assembling. Don’t ask me how. I know that ASUS has also strengthened the entire structure, so if you press D, the thickness is not bad. Then you can see that the memory part of this machine is LPDDR5X on Board , which is a conventional design for thin and light laptops to reduce weight. When purchasing, you must select it. It cannot be expanded later. If needed, you can directly upgrade to 32GB. The storage space of the version is matched with WD's SN560 1TB m.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD. The default is to include a heat sink. Actual measured sequential reading and writing of data. Falling at R: 5016MB/s W: 3453 MB/s (slip) The performance is not bad. In addition, ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED, a model of the Core Ultra generation, also has a built-in NPU processor specially designed for AI computing. You see On the system administrator side , you can see the NPU of Intel AI Boost. Here, you can simply bring a few NPUs. The first point is that the NPU will save more power in real-time calculations than in the past through CPU or GPU hard processing. For example: Online meetings, which are becoming more and more common nowadays , used to use models with independent graphics cards. After turning on the background blur, it takes about 20-30W of power consumption to achieve it . Now, models with NPU can achieve it through the built-in video background blur in Windows. According to actual measurements, it only needs about 5-10W. By the way, ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED can do it. Windows video effects can also enable automatic tracking , which means that the camera will automatically crop according to your position to keep you as centered as possible. You can also turn on the eye correction function. When it comes to Intel Core Ultra , we have to mention the biggest highlight of this generation. That is to say, the internal display performance of the Core Ultra series processors has been greatly improved this year. The Iris Xe internal display, which was already good in the past, has been completely replaced by the Intel Arc internal display. We also briefly tested the ASUS Vivoboook S 16 OLED, an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 185H. It is paired with a full-blooded Intel Arc internal display with 8 Xe Cores. According to actual testing , it scored 3758 points in 3DMark Time Spy. Compared with the previous generation of 96EU Iris Xe, the internal display has been improved by 2.65 times. This time the internal display improvement is really Very big! However, we have mentioned before that the current performance of Intel Arc internal graphics will be better in output and professional software creation needs. Games are more optimized. However, recently Intel almost always updates the driver within one or two weeks. The high-yield frequency game performance has gradually improved, but to be honest, for a notebook computer with such strong internal graphics performance, you can even use it to lightly edit 1080p or even 4K straight editing, let alone Photoshop or It’s Lightroom illustrator, which basically puts no pressure on ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED. Even if you occasionally want to relax and simply play mainstream games, there is no problem at all . However, after all, it is an internal display. It is recommended to set it to 1080p. The FPS will be more stable when running. It is also relatively comfortable to play . For example, we actually measured that in the mainstream game LOL League of Legends 1080p low image quality, it can achieve an average performance of 210FPS. In 2024, playing LOL with a thin and light laptop is already very stable. Even if you want to play some 3A games, it will be no problem at all . For example, In Cyberpunk 2077 FHD low image quality and XeSS performance settings are turned on, an average of 48.5FPS can be achieved. The performance of the thin and light notebook game 2077 is not a dream or a classic 3A. The performance of Tomb Raider: Shadow is stable at 1080p and the low image quality can also be stable at average. The performance of 62FPS and above can also be measured in Death Stranding at 1080p low image quality. It can also achieve an average performance of more than 62.7FPS (slip of the tongue). However, it still needs to be made clear whether this performance is good in terms of internal display and at 1080p low image quality. Under the quality settings , I really never thought that one day I would also need to test the gaming performance of notebooks. Now I can occasionally play simple games on notebooks, which is really comfortable. But if you are a friend who is all-game oriented, then It is more rational to choose a model with independent graphics. In terms of heat dissipation, ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED uses two sets of 97-blade cooling fans and heat pipes. However, since there is only a CPU, it is not too difficult to solve the problem of dual fans and dual heat pipes. The big issue worth mentioning is that MyASUS, a model in the ASUS Vivobook series, also has a full-rotation mode. After turning on the fan, it will rotate at full speed as long as there is a load. It is suitable for output use. The cooling effect will be much better , but the noise is also relatively obvious, reaching 54.2db at normal times. When using it, the most recommended thing is to select the performance mode. In the Cinebench multi-core test, the single-core and multi-core are almost the same. There is about a 7% difference between the two modes . But don’t forget, this is a clerical laptop! More than 90% of the time, you will not have such high performance requirements. It is recommended to select the highest performance, which is normal, standard or even silent. Not only the noise is reasonable, but the performance is also completely sufficient. If you are in the office, you can select silent mode to achieve fan-free operation. Let’s also test the performance of the 3DMark Time Spy 20-round stress test. In the performance mode, the stability can reach 99.3 , and the temperature is not high. The maximum temperature is only 39 degrees. The main control areas are also below 30 degrees. And if Turn it up again and select the full rotation mode, and the temperature of the whole machine will be really very low. The maximum temperature is only 31 degrees, and the control area is below 30 degrees. This mode is used to output completely OK. The battery life is partially ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED, which uses a notebook computer The relatively large 75Wh battery finally scored 8 hours and 54 minutes in the PCMark 10 modern office battery life test. In terms of battery life performance, Ultra 9 is a very good choice for writing documents and listening to music. For best efficiency, MyASUS can achieve more than 7-8 hours of performance by selecting silent or standard. If you are writing books in foreign countries or visiting customers, it is enough to use a small-sized PD charger at most. In the charging test, Bonny used the original factory. The included 90W charger is actually measured to charge 50% in 30 minutes and 88% in one hour. This speed is very good. The last 10% is slow charging protection. The battery charges for 40 minutes and the full charge takes 1 hour and 39 minutes. Finally , Bonny All benchmark tests are also provided for your reference! As for the built-in external speakers, this Dolby Atmos stereo speaker with Harman Kardon certification falls within the standard performance for the same price range. In addition, this speaker also has a downward rebound speaker design , so it is best to put it on the table. The sound effect we measured is that the maximum volume is about 82.2dB. The actual sound performance is as follows. Bonnie also provides a practical measurement for your reference. Overall, the biggest highlight of ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED this time is still this very beautiful 3.2K 120Hz It is a top-grade OLED screen and has all the advanced screen features, including four levels of built-in color gamut profile OLED CARE to prevent burn-in , low brightness and anti-flicker. The only pity is that as an entry-level model, this one does not have Dolby Vision authorization. However, it is no problem to enable HDR and HDR streaming. Secondly, this machine is 16 inches in size and has good performance. The final control is about 1.5 kilograms. It is also a machine for users who load heavy documents. A worthy choice and a member of AI PC, the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED also has built-in Copilot physical buttons this time. I wonder if this is the first ASUS laptop to have Copilot buttons? I haven’t seen any of the previously opened ones~ Okay! That’s it for this episode. In this episode, we have tried our best to help you test all the key points in detail within the limited time ! If you have any questions, please leave a message below to discuss! Let’s meet next year in 2025. Buy OLED and get a laptop for free. See you soon!
