Story Here , besides listening to the briefings from Samsung Display, the most valuable thing we had was to communicate directly with Samsung Display’s partners on technical issues , and we also personally got to know the three-fold real phone that we could only see in videos in the past. The focus is on Samsung My partner is very generous. He didn’t cover these secrets in a transparent box , but put them out directly. Although he was afraid that we would damage the samples , he still sincerely let us get started and fold them freely. Everyone is ready , then we will start chatting Before the tri-fold, I would like to briefly talk about Samsung. Many people know that Samsung is actually a huge empire . Take Samsung Group as an example. Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung C&T, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Life, etc. There are nearly a hundred subsidiaries , and these subsidiaries also have their own subsidiaries , so the entire Samsung Group has a lot of resources that can be integrated. In terms of the mobile phone industry , whether you buy Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony, ROG or even Apple, any brand you want To make a mobile phone , you must be inseparable from Samsung . Including memory storage, screen communication patents, battery photosensitive elements, etc. are Samsung’s strengths . Okay, let’s get further away . I just want to talk here. Although Samsung has many technology companies under its umbrella, In fact, almost every business entity operates independently , cooperates internally , and sells externally at the same time . For example , everyone is familiar with Samsung Electronics, which manufactures mobile phone products , and Samsung Display, which manufactures screens. In fact, they are almost independent business entities . So in a word Samsung Mobile focuses on mobile devices, mobile phones , tablet wearables , and Samsung Display focuses on the R&D, production and supply of display technology . This time , if you take a trip to South Korea, you can see that the two companies are real and located in two completely different places. Each has a large area of research and development centers and factories. It is not as simple as everyone thinks that the partners of the Galaxy mobile phone department can directly order new screens with Samsung Display as long as they go to another floor. In fact, the two companies are not like each other. A clear affiliation relationship is like a supplier's feeling for a mobile phone factory , but Samsung Display does reserve good materials for its good brothers in the mobile phone department every year, which can be used in Galaxy phones , so it will be there. If you want to buy the latest year A good mobile phone screen must be a Samsung mobile phone . At least in the past, the Samsung S Note folding flagship series used the latest screen substrates . So, I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to come to Samsung Display under the arrangement of Samsung Mobile partners. I visited the research and development base of Samsung Display , and it is directly the folding base . Otherwise, I would never have the chance to step into this place in my life. When I entered the meeting room of Samsung Display, I saw these two three-folding sample machines on the table. One is called Flex S and the other is Flex G. Both are phones with triple-folding technology. Let’s talk about the Flex S first . After folding, there is a screen on the outside , which is commonly known as an outer folding phone. The folding screen on one side is on the outermost layer, and you can use it as a normal mobile phone . After I got started, I think there are two main technical difficulties in achieving the triple folding of the outer screen. When it is folded, it will almost certainly be pressed against the main body of the folding screen , so the durability test is higher. The second one is an inward fold and an outward fold . The biggest problem is that the inward fold is okay , it is just a normal hinge, but the outward fold must have a hinge. The elastic device and the fixed design can maintain the huge screen body so that it will not suddenly soften during use . In terms of the current sample design , its hinge is still in its early stage. I think the hinge of the Flex S The chain should be the biggest technical difficulty in the design , because it needs the elasticity when unfolding, the support when hovering , and the fixation after unfolding . It is really not easy to do it at the same time. Anyway, this headache problem is not within the scope of Samsung Display. Let Samsung Mobile The other solution is Flex G , which is basically two screens that fold inwards. From a technical point of view , the left side is folded first , so the hinge on the left has a smaller arc, so you can see the hinge on the left. Just a thin one , and the hinge on the right is folded in because the left side has been folded in . Its thickness is higher and the curvature is larger , so the hinge is also enlarged. Have you noticed a detail , that is the crease that everyone loves to say, on the left This crease with a small curvature is obvious , and the right side has almost no visible and tactile creases due to the larger curvature of the hinge. There will be no creases. Those brands that say there are no creases are relatively shallow. You can understand it this way , but Samsung’s new folding this year is rumored to use a new hinge design . The concept is the same , that is, it can be achieved in a small hinge volume. The large arc storage method makes a deep crease into two shallow creases as much as possible. Basically , this is the current practice of various companies , but the Flex G has a significantly higher degree of completion. The hinge is already very smooth and can also hover And we think that if the front of the Flex G reaches the mass production stage, it should be able to put a normal display screen on the front like the Galaxy Fold . I personally think that the durability of this solution will be much better than that of the Flex S , and it is worth mentioning. Yes, you should have discovered that in the engineering stage, the thickness of the entire fuselage is actually not so terrible . In addition, the internal space that can be used by the three-fold is more. I think that in the mass production stage , the thickness of the foldable tablet may be unexpectedly thin and light avoidable The battery capacity is also a big test for the foldable tablet . The Flex S and Flex G we see now are like the samples that Samsung Display gave to major brands to evaluate the possibilities . They must be very different from the final product . The Flex samples we are holding in the picture cannot be compared. The normal touch screen is also about the resolution of Full HD . If mass-produced, Samsung will put it on the mobile phone and tablet , and it should order at least a mainstream specification of 2K 120Hz. According to Samsung’s display partners According to the official data, Samsung ships 500 million OLED screens every year , or 500 million pieces of OLED screens. It has a revenue of about 25 billion, or 25 billion US dollars , and owns 70% of the OLED market share . This market share is really incredible , and everyone should not forget At the end of the market , Samsung ’s OLED is almost the choice of supplying screens in the mid-range to top price range , so the unit price of the products it eats is not low. It is not an exaggeration to say that Samsung is the overlord of OLED , especially Samsung’s QD-OLED will soon be supplied in large quantities in mobile phones. In addition to monitors and TVs, there should be another big wave in the TV market.
