hey it's Sarah Matias here welcome back to how to Switzerland today we are in our home city of Zurich we personally think surrogate super underrated so but it has so much to offer yeah so many cool things to do here and today we are gonna take you around and show you our favorite activities that are all free or affordable at least affordable for Switzerland right so it's a beautiful day let's let's get into town let's go first thing to do in Zurich is to check out the beautiful old town there are so many gorgeous buildings just so much to explore I personally feel like walking around the old town is like walking around some sort of museum it's just stunning [Music] there are cute little alleyways everywhere and this is definitely the place to come if you want to get some cute shots for your Instagram while you're walking around make sure that you find the Linden holes and make your way up here this is a gorgeous square that has a very nice view of Zurich it's a great place to just get perspective of the whole city also a great photo spot [Music] there are a lot of little shops in the old town but if you're looking for I guess the major shopping area you're going to want to make your way to Bahnhofstrasse oh this is where you're gonna find all your designer brands your hmm CMA at the store all that kind of stuff it's a great place just to window shop or get some shopping done but do keep in mind that absolutely everything will be closed on Sunday bars and restaurants might be open but don't plan on doing any shopping so after you spend some time walking around the old town you might want to get up higher so you can get a view and have a totally different perspective of Zurich so there are a few places where you can get an awesome view we're going to show you go to the first one is right over here right behind me if the grouse Muenster Church arguably one of the most famous churches in Zurich and you can actually go in the top and get an awesome view of Surrey can get some really gorgeous pictures from up there but it is a little bit more on the touristy side I wouldn't say there's anything in Zurich that's like super touristy because this is not a mega tourist city like a lot of other places in Switzerland but you will find tourists there you can see behind me on this bridge there are a lot of people taking photos and such so you can go to the top but it does cost 5 francs per person it's an amazing view but I would argue there are better ways to get a view so one of our favorite things to do is to go to a rooftop lounge or bar and if you go there you can get an awesome view for maybe six or seven francs basically the cost of a beer or glass of wine a quite a few rooftop lounge bars and roof terraces in Zurich but definitely check out the Jules Verne a panorama bar it's inside this restaurant so you go in and there is an elevator tucked in the corner you're just going to make your way up and there is an absolutely stunning view up here one of the great things about this place particularly is that it is indoor so if it is raining or the weather is bad you can still get the view whereas a lot of the terrorists bars will be closed if the weather is not great a super epic way to get a great view is at the zurich thermal baths it is not cheap it is thirty-six bucks to get into this place and you need to bring your own towels if you forget they will charge you extra but you can get a gorgeous view and you can enjoy this pool I don't know I personally think it's worth it just make sure you remember to bring your own towel so you don't get the up charge but it is very unique it's a very cool place to check out [Music] so one of our favorite things do in Zurich is go for a bike ride around this beautiful lake so we have our own bikes but don't worry if you're visiting Zurich has a free bike rental program yes it's totally free I think you need a $20 deposit and some form of ID and you can take a bike for the day Zurich is super bike friendly I find biking here to be quite stress-free because there are very big dedicated bike lanes and going around the lake is such a fun thing to do so of course you can bike around the lake but if you want to enjoy lake it's very even more we recommend you go for a swim there are all sorts of swimming areas where you can just jump in and enjoy this beautiful clean water you can swim in it we used to live in New York City and you couldn't swim in the water there but here it is super crystal-clear and we love that another thing you can do is hop on a boat or they have these round-trip boat tours it takes an hour and a half and it's pretty cheap I'm not exactly sure how much but I'll put the price in here and this is actually not a tourist activity locals love to go on this boat tour just because it's a great way to enjoy a beautiful evening definitely take the sunset cruise you one thing we really love to do is come down here to this Opera House area square I'm not sure if it's called Opera House square but you get the point it's so gorgeous the Opera House is stunning there are chairs absolutely everywhere that you can just sit on and in Switzerland it is legal to drink alcohol outside so if you want to have a beer or a glass of wine buy it in a grocery store and take it out here that's perfectly fine everyone does it's very common activity you can also find all sorts of free Wi-Fi here and I know that it's good Mattias and I used to do live streams on our YouTube channel from this exact Square since the food is very expensive here we like to just grab something from a grocery store there's actually a grocery store right here but it's a little bit hidden and sometimes people have a hard time finding it so we're going to show you where it is okay so right over here is a place called hope we go in there and go down the escalator there is a full grocery store it's kind of strange at first glance because it looks like a department store but there's a whole grocery store in the basement [Music] another vegan friendly food option close to the Opera House are these pretzels Mattias loves these pretzels and they have all sorts of vegan ones and they're actually pretty cheap so these pretzels are some of our favorite things to get when we are out and about they're so good and they're typically vegan just make sure you ask otherwise you can check the signs but we're safe in here hang out and snack on these so that is if those are our favorite things to do around Zurich I really hope you guys enjoyed this video I just hope all of you can enjoy Zurich as much as we do if you have any questions at all let us know in the comments down below we'll do our best to answer them and if you'd like another video where we give you more tips kind
