I actually saw the direct unedited video of Cramer back from 2006 when doing research on short-sellers.
This isn't some tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. Stock market manipulation happens, and anybody who thinks it doesn't or that it is being properly enforced is horribly naive. It's actually a really well understood phenomenon in economics, regulatory capture. Regulatory capture is when regulators (e.g the SEC) are in collusion with special interest groups (often those they are supposed regulate) and advance their interests at the expense of the public interest. Of course, it doesn't just happen with regulators and Wall Street, it also happens between Wall Street private institutions. The collusion between Wall Street and credit-rating agencies is one of the prime contributors to 2008 economic crash.
And the media can often be oblivious to the fact that they're being lied to by their sources to advance private interests. They can believe they're genuinely getting an accurate story from a source. Remember how James Murdoch's name was put out as the next Tesla chair even though it wasn't even being considered. I think we can see what this was in retrospect.
It also happens between politicians and special interest groups, this is more well known. Special interest groups provide politicians with large campaign contributions and using the threat of withholding support as leverage to get policies passed that will advance their interests. Sale of Teslas have been banned in a majority of American states because car dealerships fear their model of selling cars will be rendered obsolete by retail stores and direct-to-consumer sales.
Individuals can also do this, sometimes to advance their genuinely-held ideology, sometimes for self-interest.
Very interesting video. Whatโs really interesting is if I didnโt follow Tesla so closely, I would still be skeptical of what this video is exposing. Itโs hard to believe the news can be so full of nonsense. If youโre not informed, you will be duped by FUD...
Cramer:
If you are NOT watching the news, you are uninformed. If you DO watch the news, you are misinformed. - Denzel Washington
Serious question and thought exercise: Let's assume making money in the market is as easy as feeding false/misleading/incorrect information to the media and placing wagers ahead of it.
Why pick Tesla stock as the target?
Misleading information stemming from these sources?
