Iβm impressed with Yuval Noah Harari. What really freaks me out is that heβs so young. I have listened to him before and dismissed his wisdom as a fluke. In this (long) video I aggressively sought something I could disagree with. There was nothing that I could even get nitpicky about. He must be pretty smart, because he is better than talkers twice his age and, because of his youth; he has a better grasp of the coming shitstorm than usual.
In an age of increasing specialization it's so refreshing to see such an ambitious academic firmly within the humanist tradition cast such a wide net and pull everything together in the type of grand history which can make sense of all the forces at play nowadays.
I had a chance to listen to this talk at work today and, though I haven't had a chance to read the follow up to Sapiens yet, Homo Deus is definitely at the top of my reading list.
Generalities wrapped in grandiose language. A friend said to me that reading his book was rather like having one of those dreams where to perceive The Answer to Life's Problems, but then waking up and being unable to remember what it was.
I don't like how he calls people "useless" if they don't work jobs for a living.
