this video is all about PS5 audio settings in 2023 explained like you are 5 years old we're gonna talk about the audio formats Dolby Atmos versus Dolby audio encoding and decoding 3D audio EQ settings for pulse 3D headset and lastly Call of Duty recommended audio settings for headphones starting with the audio output settings when you have a headset connected to your PS5 regardless of using a controller AUX port or wireless USB stick you'll have an option to switch output to the headset it usually happens automatically when you connect or disconnect a headset if you turn off this option you need to change it manually you can choose to have all audio on your headset or just the voice chat audio you can also enable mono audio for headphones which mixes both channels usually you don't want this unless there is a hardware or software issue and you can use this method as a temporary fix for audio for example if my aux cable is faulty I may hear audio only on one side with mono audio you can hear the same audio on both channels in the the general section we have the home screen music which I have off and sound effects like this I like to keep it on and the most recent updated option audio format here we have linear PCM Dolby Atmos W audio and DTS first let's talk about the difference between Dolby Atmos versus Dolby audio Dolby Atmos is an extension audio format from Dolby audio which means it was created to give you more possibilities compared to Dolby audio for example in W audio you need to have speakers in fixed positions for example if you are using a 5.1 Channel system you have to put them exactly the way they are intended to be while with Atmos you can move speakers anywhere in the house and change the position to different areas and by some software and processing changes on your device you still get high quality audio and have the freedom to keep your speakers anywhere you like not exactly anywhere but more possibilities now what if your audio system or your AV receiver supports both the Dolby Atmos and Dolby audio decoding choose the one depending on how you set them up around you speaking of decoding in Dolby format we have audio encoding and decoding to make it simple here's how it works when you encode the audio you put multiple audio data in different channels how they are supposed to sound the volume and Direction on its speakers depending on the game camera or the movie scene and many more this all happens on your console at first then decoding is when your audio Hardware is going to read that data and transform it to a playable format for speakers so they sound the way they are intended it was just a simple explanation to get to the next point which is PS5 doesn't have a true Dolby Atmos mix currently what do you mean Daniel let's say developers of movies or games use specific devices to mix the audio for listeners and then audiences use a device that supports those formats to play it back to decode it so if the sound designer wanted you to hear the rain dropping from above and coming from the ceiling it will be played from those speakers and at height level now on the PS5 we have something called Tempest 3D which would simulate surround Johnson and channels where the sound comes from exactly and an engine that would help to get a better directional sound at first it was only being used for headphones and then I used this version of it for TV speakers I'll tell you why it is useless later now what Sony did with this update is to help AV receivers that can decode Dolby audio or Dolby Atmos because Tempest 3D wasn't designed for AV receivers with Dolby Atmos format now PS5 is going to let's say translate that Tempest 3D audio format channels Etc to a readable format for devices that support Dolby Atmos or Dolby audio decoding so it's like outputting my version of 3D audio and making it usable for devices that support Dolby Atmos that's why it's not a true Dolby Atmos mix from the games or apps and by the way most apps on PS5 don't support Dolby yet now you have a much better understanding of what's going on I hope in this process of changing audio format and encoding it to a different format for supported devices it takes some time right how much is that delay what if you use it on HDMI and what if you use it for headphones so far I can tell that the delay is not noticeable for most users you won't notice it like some other consoles but I need some time to make a full test with my hardware and compare the results which I will make a video of audio delay on PS5 soon there are a few things you need to know linear PCM this format is on compressed lossless audio which is mainly used to be used for stereo left and right channels but now supports up to 7.1 channels depending on the content and the device that is receiving the audio let's say it's like when you have raw video with tens of gigabyte size on your PC but then you render that to MP4 for YouTube now the size is smaller and the quality is also a bit lower that's uncompressed compared to compressed kinda linear PCM can simply work with 7.1 channels until which sound should be played on what Channel but Atmos is designed to help with the 3D Space by changing many aspects to give you a much better surround sound and instead of a simple Channel pass through now what about DTS in simple words linear PCM is on compressed but needs HDMI Optical or coaxial for outputting multi-channel DTS can do the same but it is more compressed and is lossy still if you only have Optical and want multi-channel surround this is may sound better as a compressed audio over Optical with less latency and mid-core quality as long as you can use a linear PCM you don't need DTS what about the audio formats for headphones as the whole point of this video is for headphones you must know the simple 3D audio for headphones on PS5 would do the same job for your headset I would use a linear PCM as long as you don't get significant issues with quality or delay on your headset but as I tested audio formats when you choose Dolby Atmos or Dolby audio on PS5 and a headset is connected the audio frequency responses changes a little bit in some games like FIFA 24 that I tested recently Atmos sounds a bit muffled I thought in the scenario of 3D audio on headset and Dolby options it would just pass through the same quality but it seems not currently if you use linear PCM you are not going to lose anything in most scenarios but in a game like Call of Duty I found Dolby Atmos sound better for my ears and that's just me and the mix it's uploading about the latency I didn't notice it but again I'll cover this one in the next video which is a delay test on audio when using different formats and different devices about DTS I don't recommend it for headphones you don't need it it's just a compressed version of linear PCM but if you are using controller Oxford you may find DTS gives you a higher quality in that case you can use it you must consider not every game supports 3D audio meanwhile not every game is going to use all channels of your Dolby system even though the Psy 5 now supports all of them not every game sounds good with 3D audio and it means you may not be happy with that I made a full video of when to use and when not to use 3D audio on PS5 for games which you can check from the card above the truth that no one told you before 3D audio for TVs speakers I don't recommend it to be honest it just ruins the audio quality in five different audio systems I tested I have a full video on this even though it's old it's still the same do you want to know why go check is from the cards above or the link below here we have volume settings you can adjust controller speaker audio I usually don't set it to Max but feel free to Max it if you want the most useful option after recent updates is the beep sound I hated it but now I have it on low and it's fine but you can mute it completely here's how much the difference is between all three options in the microphone section you can change the microphone independently there is an issue though if you have audio outputs set to HDMI or receiver your voice chat volume will be played on the controller speaker when someone is talking and there is no way to change that unless you connect a headset to it to fix that you can use a simple aux header or a splitter and then switch the output to HDMI let's say all audio including voice chat will be played on your HDMI device I'd rather keep the mic muted when I log into PS5 and for broadcast if you use the switch to mute when you start streaming it'll be muted at the start I don't stream with PS5 though if you have pulse 3D headset you can access EQ presets from sound due to the latest test I did to find what is Q factor for these sliders and the main frequency I try to make the most neutral sound for the headset once again and this EQ currently gives you the most neutral sound some people ask to give us one EQ for all games and one EQ for all movies apps Spotify Etc I consider it for you use this EQ as a main EQ for any game you play regardless of 3D audio or stereo and use this one for apps and movies keep in mind you are free to change anything you like for 3D audio I usually make changes which you can check from the playlist I put in the card above for every different game now what about Call of Duty audio settings Elite update Call of Duty to the latest version the least dynamic range still stays the same meaning the bass boost is preferred for boosting footsteps these are my current volume settings in the game this is the pulse 3D EQ I'm using with Dolby Atmos as I told you the game and high pitch frequencies sound a bit different and the audio is a bit quiet when using Dolby but I prefer that and if you don't use linear PCM with this EQ about 3D audio I prefer stereo that's again just me I feel better with that using pulse 3D headset but if you are looking for in-depth video output settings on PS5 how to get RGB or full chroma and when to use 14 TP and more check this video which is also made to be easy to understand thanks a bunch for joining today I'm signing out foreign
