what do the younger cast members like to do in their downtime who was awarded the best grandpa award on set and why was jim parsons afraid of meeting ian armitage for the first time hi i'm janet and you're watching awesome let's go all work and no play the cheekiest thing that you've done we steal things from the props card a lot these two are probably the most mature young child actors i've ever seen and when ian armitage and reagan revort were originally cast in their roles they were both but nine years old in interviews and panels both but in particular the show's star armitage engages like he's been doing it for years so are they always hard at work you'll be relieved to hear no they apparently have loads of fun wanna hear what they do in their downtime these two down here like that they're tickle monsters they are so they like to tickle me it's quite soothing to listen to montana jordan aka george jr and his texas brawl the connection between the younger cast members gives the show that extra level of realism reagan remembers that when she met her on-screen brothers for the first time they started playing immediately in her words ian started tap dancing and montana gave her piggy back rides now that doesn't sound like all work and no play to me on stars in the house there was a bit of good-natured competition about who goofs around the most and in the end montana had the last say oh wait i try not to goof around every now and again i might but for sure he wrestles he wrestles with us a lot it was actually reagan who got the last word looks to me like all three of them are guilty as charged in the crime of goofing around like a second family there are many interviews and panel examples where all the actors both young and older have mentioned the word family pilot we felt like a family and it was very good family dynamic ian says he never really feels scared before starting a new season but that he feels lucky and excited to go back to his pretend home talking to the pali center for media lance barber who portrays the kid's dad set out of the gate we knew how lucky we were with the people we were working with we instantly got along you hear stories of awful little children in hollywood and how they can be and it's such a wrong cliche by the way did you know that barbara appeared in the big bang theory before getting the role of sheldon's dad yeah he used to be leonard's bully remember that scene anyways so now that you know barbara's true feelings about his colleagues he does enjoy pulling his on-screen wife zoey perry's leg from time to time this one right here was a nightmare to be hindered yeah we don't get along at all it's evident that barbara and perry have an awesome working relationship fun fact while zoey plays the young mary cooper her mom laurie metcalf played the older version in big bang kind of like a real life family affair zoe told young hollywood she's really thankful for having her mom to ask for advice about older mary although as she pointed out genetics plays a big part whether i aim for it or not zoe's voice and mannerisms have always been similar which is not surprising being laurie's real-life daughter so let's move from that real-life family favorite to our favorite fake family and as you might know it's not always fun and games when it comes to relatives according to annie potts aka the kids okay sheldon's beloved meemaw the dinner scenes go on for hours why well since there's six of them in one scene so everyone's point of view has to be covered also barbara pointed out you've got to count your bites because that's a whole lot of meatloaf in a day according to him montana is the one who just gorges himself the entire time well he's a growing young man so he needs the nutrients in any case a few hours into these dinner scenes and there's murder pots jokes to which perry adds zen is a real family when we're shooting so those dinner scenes are kind of like real dinner scenes apart from that lance annie and zoe joked that the kids especially reagan know everyone else's lines not just their own which means the adults have to be prepared since the younger ones keep them on their toes the kids pretend grandma okay since we all know how much meemaw connie loves young sheldon and doesn't make her favoritism a secret let's see if young ian and annie have a similar bond off the set yes they do although in real life annie potts a mom to three boys loves both her pretend grandkids equally on annie's past birthday both ian and reagan surprised her with a musical performance and cake masks and all and trust me there were many i love yous exchanged on this day happy birthday to you happy birthday of course if it's not on insta it never happened annie replied in the comments they say you measure success by the company you keep i couldn't be happier in interviews the kids are often snuggled up next to her and it's cuteness overload when asked about what it's like to work with armitage pods told metro uk i was just so happy to have a little boy in my life again and to play with he's very fun to act with because he's quite a good actor now we've seen the kids have fun but how about the adult cast members are they dull in comparison well i'll tell you this it sure doesn't seem so if annie's comment is anything to go by we have to be very good models of professional behavior so there's [Music] that's a total lie thank you the young sheldon cast is clearly more than just colleagues they are family and just like ian and reagan scored a fun grandma out of the deal so they did a grandpa the best granddad award goes to mr michael the young actor's honorary grandpa who by the way goes back a long way he and potts once worked together in a show called texasville and he brought a picture of the picture to the set what a throwback but listen get your tissue box ready cause this bit might induce happy tears mr michael is the set's boom operator or one of the sound people as ian calls him and according to armitage and reward he's their hero they have lots of fun so rarely have bad days but when they're a little down or a scene is driving them crazy mr michael has been there since season one to cheer them up whether it's with a word of encouragement play fighting or hugs best guy ever he is he's he's the main thing he's so sweet the young actors love him so much and thought it was really unfair that he doesn't have kids since he's so good with children naturally the next step was to officiate him as their adopted grandpa as armitage explained mr michael is blinged out he's got the papers a shirt a mug a water bottle and a key chain to show his honorary status in response grandpa michael praised the kids and their acting and said i'd be retired if it wasn't for the love i get on the show and i'm totally serious okay moving on swiftly no crying okay a little bird told us the kids and the props department have a great working relationship whatever they need profs can help with and sometimes that help comes in the form of pet sitting miss monica ian calls her the props lady once looked after his hamster while he had to travel set friends and nicknames young ian is in love with his cuddliest onset pal it's his hamster leela and yes she goes to work with him he brags that if she was a human she'd probably be sheldon material and he sees her as a role model of note saying that he also aims to eat as much as he can and sleep late but he's not the only one when reagan is working she often brings her dogs to the set and makes it clear that they're all well trained and have never had accidents we're not sure if she brought them all at once though since she has four but it's safe to say there's a set favorite since her one dog gets along well with ian's leela this set is getting better and better how can i get in on another note which family doesn't have a nickname or two normally one you wish would disappear right away well the kids pretend dad lance barber has a lot of nicknames on set he's everything from dad to george and lancelot when asked if he has a favorite nickname you know a man with many names is many times loved i believe is a proverb talking about on-set dads in real life ian's dad works in musical theater and performed in hamilton this is interesting because ian and lance also share a passionate love of the theater and musical theater you know since we've talked about on-set grandparents the next question is do lance and zoe have to adopt a parenting approach on set too yeah they take their duties seriously mostly they school ian and reagan on the 80s references like reagan not knowing what a walkman was and ian who didn't understand what a dialing phone was he was dialing first and then picking up the phone lance laughs apart from floppy disks and videotapes the kids seem to know it all though young sheldon and future sheldon jim parsons from big bang fame is now of course sharing his wisdom behind the scenes on the young sheldon and he's a legend but please people be kind and rather refer to him as big sheldon because he's not old yet it's so touching to see the mutual bond between parsons and armitage and the two can't find enough adjectives to praise each other about ian's audition jim went from incredible awesome mind-blowing and phenomenal to kind of jaw-dropping parsons recalls that the writers gave ian a horribly long dialogue which was never used anywhere in the pilot he calls it a kind of trial by fire as they must have thought if he can't do this we can't trust him the producers later confirmed that it was indeed purposely written to quickly separate who could possibly do this role jim says there were so many tapes and although they were all good ian's hid it out of the park so much so he was actually nervous to meet the child actor back then armitage was nine parsons showed ian the ropes although he emphasizes that the young actor didn't need a lot of coaching before pilot season they worked on the sheldon voice and a little on his mannerisms speaking to metro.co.uk ian said he is my coach so he's awesome we get along very well i mean a lot of the stuff he taught me was like a year a year and a half ago so my brain just absorbed it and now it's easier to get into sheldon over to you are you also obsessed with how good young sheldon is and with that i mean both the show and the actors let us know in the comments and don't forget to stay awesome [Music] [Music] you
