This will sound cliche but I worry about the youth. My kids are still young, but I absolutely don't want them caught up in this whole social media frenzy when they reach high school. I would be against getting them a smartphone or the equivalent ten years from now, but peer pressure is the worst and I know for a fact they will feel left out.
I got my first mobile phone at 20 years old, but that worked for me because social media wasn't even a thing back then. These days kids have phones from 7 or 8.
mmmm this video is a tasty little treat for my brain. The way the music plays to manipulate my emotions and the way it cuts between multiple videos to keep my attention span.
An interesting video, I'll share it on facebook.
What's with the dramatic music lol. Cut that music out
Geez. I just want to put up a picture on Instagram once a week or so. Must everything be so dangerous?
Fascinating
How is reddit any better than FB in this matter? Personally I felt a huge sense of success when I got my first comment with 10k upvotes. I felt even more when a video i shared of ne doing some mundane task got 3k views thanks to being posted in reddit.
Honestly I still hope my half-wit comments will get a ton of upvotes, regardless of the fact the it means next to nothing.
Put this same mindset into dozens of posts each day with an audience of your known peers and you have a recipie for big problems.
personally, my son is going to be raised to think only foolish nitwits use social media, and it wont be hard to prove with the content being shared these days
Start at 4:12 where the guy talks about alcohol. He says that we regulate alcohol because it gives you dopamine, but we donβt regulate social media even though it is essentially giving you a drug.
Not sure it that makes any sense. Just because alcohol can cause the brain to release dopamine doesnβt mean dopamine is bad. Completing homework can release dopamine, riding a bike can release dopamine, getting an A on a test can release dopamine etc. thatβs not a bad thing.
