I have over 20 credit cards and between my wife and I we have nearly 40 credit cards it is easy to get the impression that you need that many cards to be successful at the points and Miles game but the reality is that we don't use nearly that many credit cards on a normal basis and the truth is if you have the right six cards you can be successful in points of miles and gain thousands in value each and every year so if I'm not using all these cards what's the benefit to me well having that many cards really accelerates the accumulation of points through intro bonuses the problem is is that you could accumulate Annual fees for benefits that don't match your annual fee and the overall management of that many credit cards this can lead to undo stress and actually make you lose at points and Miles so in this video I'm going to go over the only six credit cards that you need to have the perfect setup for this year now be sure you stay till the end because I'm going to go over a few secrets of what this six card setup's going to be able to do that's going to truly set you up for Success beyond the multiple pliers intro bonuses so let's get started with our first card we need a catchall card and when I say a catch all card that what I mean is something that will give us at least 2x on every dollar we spend no matter what we spend it on and the card we're going to go with is the capital 1 Venture X it is the perfect combination of catch all card and a premium travel card venturex has a standard intro bonus of 75,000 Capital 1 miles for $4,000 worth of spend in the first 3 months of having the card now meeting that threshold is achievable for most households and we're definitely not going to spend additional money we should be able to do this on our everyday spend and as far as multipliers we get 10x on hotels and rental cars and 5x on airlines all purchased through the capital 1 Travel portal and as a premium travel credit card you're going to get lounge access for priority pass Plaza premium as well as the Capital One lounges now the annual fee of the Venture X is $300 95 which may set you back a bit but there's a little more to the story now by having the Venture X you'll receive a $300 travel credit to be used through the travel portal as well as on each anniversary year you'll be given 10,000 Capital 1 miles which is normally valued at least at $100 so between the $300 travel credit and the $100 worth of value in those anniversary points we're up at to $400 which would exceed the $395 annual fee this can be achieved as long as you're even just taking one travel per year to utilize that $300 travel Credit Now I actually have the capital 1 Venture X in our household and we definitely get value from it each and every year I actually did a review of the capital 1 Venture X as part of the whole great debate of if it's the best credit card of 2024 I'll make sure to put a link for that in the pin comment cuz you're definitely going to want to see more details about that but the venturex may not be right for you whether it's the annual fee or the need to track travel each and every year to make the card worth it completely understandable I actually have another option for you I'm going to stay with Capital One it's going to be for the capital 1 Venture no X though now the capital 1 Venture is going to give us that same 2x catchall feature on it as well as 5x on hotels and rental cars through the capital 1 Travel portal and even better the standard introductory bonus is the same as the capital 1 Venture X of 75,000 Capital 1 miles with $4,000 worth of spend in the first 3 months and the annual fee is only $95 now what we do not get with the Capa 1 Venture is we don't get those credits of that $300 travel credit as well as the 10,000 anniversary Capital 1 miles to help bring down that $395 cost and we also do not get the same level of lounge access when it comes to lounge access with the Venture you get two complimentary visits per year to the plaza premium lounges is well as capital 1 lounges but as of December 31st of this year of 2024 that lounge access will end on that card so whether it's the capital 1 Venture X or the capital 1 Venture we're off to a great start with our catchall card so the next card that we need is a rotating category card and the benefit of this card is that we're going to get 5x on rotating categories that change each quarter and for this card I'm choosing the Chase Freedom Flex when it comes to intro bonuses we commonly see $200 as the intro bonus with $500 worth to spend in the first 3 months but I encourage you to subscribe to the channel because the intro bonus to the freedom Flex does change periodically and they've had some really good ones that have come up and on my channel I do a weekly live stream on all of the weekly news that you need to know and one of the first segments is on intro bonuses that you need to be aware of now in addition to the 5x that you're going to be able to get on the rotating categories you're also going to get 5x on purchases through the chase track travel portal 3x on drugstores and dining as well as 1X on everything else now those other multipliers are good but we're really getting this card for the 5x on the rotating categories and that 5x multiplier is good for up to $1,500 worth of spend in that quarter now we can get some excellent value with that 5x but there's actually some times where we get outsized value with the freedom Flex in that 5x category let me explain I'm doing this video here in the second quarter of 2024 in the current categories are dining hotels and Amazon and as I mentioned earlier the standard multipliers for hotels through the travel portal is 5X and dining is 3x so using the freedom Flex this quarter will allow you to get 7x on all of your dining purchases with the freedom flex and a whopping 9x on hotels that you would get through the chase travel portal and there's even additional benefits of purchase protection as as well as travel protection cell phone coverage if when paying with the credit card and you also get primary collision damage waiver when using the card so with all these features you can easily see especially as a no annual fee card why this needs to be part of the six card setup all right the next credit card that we need to get is one that's going to be focused on dining and groceries now I don't know about your household but in mind this is kind of a high dollar category and when you have a spend like this you really need to have a card that can maximize it to really get you those points each and every month now for this card I'm actually going to talk about a credit card that most have heard of when it comes to this category and one that I have but once again I'm going to talk about an alternative to the American Express gold card because even for me if I was to start all over again I probably would make a different choice and I'll let you know what that is and the reasons for it now the American Express gold has a standard intro bonus that is of 60,000 membership reward points for 6 ,000 Worth to spend in the first 6 months one of the great things about American Express intro bonuses is you get 6 months to be able to complete it so we only need to spend $11,000 on that credit card each month for 6 months to be able to achieve that intro bonus now as far as the multipliers we're getting 4X at restaurants here in the United States and 4x at groceries here in the United States up to a $225,000 per year cap now for these benefits we have an annual fee of $240 but of of course in typical American Express Fashion they are providing credits to try to cover that annual fee and they're doing that with a $120 Uber credit and $120 dining credit so let's start with the $120 Uber credit it's done as a $10 per month us it or Los it credit that can be used on ride chair as well as Uber Eats now when it comes to the $120 dining credit that is allocated at $10 per month use it or lose it and it has to be used at either GrubHub The Cheesecake Factory wine do goldbelly or select Shake Shacks now when it comes to that dining credit I will normally use it for GrubHub or I'll use it for something at Shake Shack but I make sure I don't pay for delivery because every dollar counts now overall I like the American Express code card and if you can use those credits you really are only spending $10 per year because of those $240 credit but that's a big if for a lot of people you really have to be able to have those credits to be able to justify getting the card in it may be a case where you don't like those credits overall or you're concerned that you may not actually use them every month now I've definitely missed a month here and a month there and have lost that $10 or $20 in a month so I completely understand any concern that you may have in addition back when I got the American Express gold card there weren't the restrictions that we now have with American Express when it comes to getting intro bonuses when it comes to them for personal credit cards and let's just talk about the charge cards Green Card Gold gold card and platinum they are now requiring you to go in order if you want to get each and every intro bonus so if you start by getting the gold card but never got the Green Card you now are no longer eligible to get the green card and get the bonus same thing if you get the platinum credit card first you can't get the gold card intro bonus or the green card intro bonus so now that really has to be a factor when you look at what cards to get so based upon my history with the American Express Gold Card the new policy regarding intro bonuses with that as well as something else I'll touch on at the end of the video I would actually look at the Capital One saver one now when it comes to the Capital One saver one there is an intro bonus $200 after you spend $500 in the first 3 months of having the credit card now when it comes to multipliers you're going to get 8X on Capital 1 entertainment purchases 5x on hotels and Rental CS through the capital 1 Travel portal you'll also get 3% on entertainment select streaming services d and groceries in addition through November 15th of 2024 you'll also get an Uber one membership and you can get all of this with no annual fee no credits to worry about it is a very easy to use card and one that I would definitely consider if I was starting all over now before we move on to the next card if you're finding value in this information please consider liking and subscribing to the channel doesn't cost you anything but it really means the world to this channel thank you in advance so the next card we're going to look at is basically basically a multi-purpose card and one that I would put as a tier three entrylevel travel card on the credit card ladder at about which normally is about $95 now I have to say that I did do a video on the credit card ladder and why it's not the best for some people I'll make sure to put a link for that video also in the pin comment and for this card I'm selecting the Chase Sapphire preferred at a $95 annual fee now when it comes to intro bonus it has a very solid intro bonus of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points for $4,000 worth of spend in the first 3 months now when it comes to multipliers we're going to get 5x when going through the chase travel portal 3x on dining and online groceries and we also get 2x on selected travel now let me take a moment to go back in regards to those multipliers to provide a little bit of information on two of those categories the 2x on select travel is very widespread Chase is really well known for how much range they give for that 2x on travel could be anything from hotels and Airlines to toll bridges or even cost in a parking garage so it is varied now the other category I'll touch on is online groceries completely understand if you might be taken aback by that I definitely was before I got my Sapphire preferred but it's actually a pretty good category it provides that for 3x on meal kit delivery as well as if you're going online to your local grocery store to set up a pickup or delivery that also counts and for me for ease of use I really use the online grocery shopping rather than going into grocery stores a lot so it's been very beneficial for me now in addition to those benefits you also get a $50 annual Hotel credit to use through the chase portal as well as a 25% boost when you're purchasing through the chase portal now with all of that at a $95 annual fee makes it a truly exceptional multi-purpose card for us that's really going to help us with daily use that as well as another reason that I'll also touch on at the end of the video now we've covered a lot of areas of our spending but there's still more to do now what we do need is we need to be able to fill in a gap that might happen each month and it could be for different reasons and for that we need what I would call a chameleon credit card now I call it a chameleon card because we needed to be able to change and do whatever we needed to do each and every month and there's only one card for that and that is the city custom cash now the standard intro bonus for the custom cash is $200 after $1,500 worth of spend in the first 3 months now the key feature of this credit card is that we get 5% cash back on the top eligible category each month up to $500 in spend now there are a total of 10 categories that we can work from and these categories include restaurants gas stations grocery stores select travel select Transit select streaming services drug stores home improvement stores fitness clubs and even live entertainment so as you can see we have a category list that is very extensive and with a lot of variety the best part of this credit card is that you don't have to pre-select a category you're going to spend in and you don't have to register City will simply just take that category that you spent the most in and apply the 5x to that any other purchases outside of that 5% will only count as 1% now the city custom cash does have a special travel offer currently that runs through June 30th of 2025 and that is for any hotels rental car or entertainment that is done through the city portal will actually not just be 1X they will add four points to it to make it 5x now to maximize your spin it is really important for you to determine at the beginning of the billing cycle of what category you're going to focus on and only use that credit card for that to for the full $500 worth to spend that your allotted each month so as you can see this card is really going to be an important card for our setup to fill in that Gap each month and it doesn't matter if it changes each month which is really makes it special now for our next card it is a card that is truly shined especially for renters but I actually did a recent video on this credit card to talk about how it wasn't just for renters I'll make sure to put that video link in the pin comments for you to look at because it really will tell a great story and that card is the built credit card so there is no annual fee on the built credit card but it doesn't have stated intro bonus either as far as the multipliers you get 3x on dining 2x on travel 1X on everything else and you also get 1X on rent now as a renter this is the only card that will allow you to accumulate points on your rent as well as not having to B the typical processing fee which can be anywhere from 2 to 4% to be able to use a credit card for your rent so if you're a renter the card is a no-brainer now on rent day which is the first of each month we get the multipliers doubled so instead of 3x on that day for dining it's 6X and instead of 2x for travel it's 4X and that 1X catchall becomes a 2x catchall now the rent doesn't change it stays at 1X but that is still an amazing day to be able to utilize that card for maximum benefits now for the bill credit card it does an excellent job and especially two areas that are not rent related one is the Transfer Partners they currently have American Airlines through through June of 2024 they have recently gotten Alaska Airlines and they are only the second credit card currency to be able to have highet Chase being the other one in addition we have really seen in recent months where build has done some incredible redemptions on rent day with different Transfer Partners where we've seen numbers based upon their tier system go all the way from 75% Redemption all the way up to 125 or 150% now keep in mind the normal Redemption that you would have through Chase City capital 1 or American Express might range from 20 to 40% at the max and I'm seeing we're starting at 75% in some cases build has truly set a new standard for that type of redemption and definitely a video that you're going to want to look at to get more information about the bill credit card now I said at the beginning of this video that there were going to be some secrets of why this six credit card setup was going to be so successful for everyone so first with the capital 1 Venture X or the capital 1 Venture we're going to be able to convert the sa one cash back to Miles whenever we would want to Second by having the sapphire preferred we're going to be able to also convert the cash back of the freedom Flex to Ultimate reward points and because of those two setups along with build this allows us to have travel Redemption ability in three of the five flexible currencies the only two we don't have currently is City and we don't have American Amer Express and there's a reason for that process we will actually get City's travel Redemption ability with just getting one card which would be the City premiere and we'll be able to couple that with the city custom cash and that cash back will become thank you points that we will be able to do through the City premiere and when it comes to American Express they are normally the easiest ones to be able to get qualified for because they don't really have a policy set up of where if you have too many cards it's a problem so you can be successful with American Express in the early game the mid game or the late game and on top of that because of the way they've now have their intro bonus tier set up we really need to make sure that we're careful about when we're getting those American Express credit cards and really what is the pathway we're looking to follow now at the conclusion of All These intro bonuses we're going to end up having 104,000 Capital 1 miles between the venture or Venture X as well as the safe one and when it comes to chase we're going to be able to accumulate at least 86,500 points between the sapphire preferred and the freedom Flex so as you can see this six card setup is going to provide you the ultimate Diversified setup that's going to meet all of your needs we've also covered every spending category to truly set you up for success and if you click on this video I'll be able to show you more on your points and
