everyone this is a day that God has made and today is a day that we assemble which is the Hebrew calendar month of Tishrei the tenth day which we know as the day of atonement for this is a day that we have created for ourselves with the firm belief in God that we can take the name of our day atonement to mean a couple of wonderful words for our selves and for others to atone to be atoned for our ways in which we are living our lives we can continue in our path of righteousness if you are and if you want to make some changes today is a day in which we will be sealed symbolically metaphorically speaking and symbolically speaking will be sealed into the book of life but in essence we seal ourselves through our actions and also atone can mean to be at one to be at one with ourselves and God atone could be meaning a tone a sound of the shofar so this is the day of atonement and let us all rejoice together and let us all sing for joy in our hearts for today is a day that has become a very special emotional day for our ancestors as they have passed down the door of a door for generations of generations for us to enjoy and to become at one once again so let's begin our service shall we with a nice opening we'd like to start off with the opening anthem anthem let us all rise for the national anthem and the Hatikva oh say can you see by the dawn's early light what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight or the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming through the night that our flag was still there aaaah new Viki Manu Vaheguru las monjas e our name we praise you dear God supreme spirit of the universe you've kept us alive you've sustained us and you brought us to this great moment the day of atonement to celebrate together to pray together to meditate together and let us say oh hello Hey [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] beautiful now as you heard at the beginning of our services sounding of the shofar if it's like a call to worship but in particular another way to express symbolically it's a sound to say that Court is in session so we're here today to plead our case if you will in front of a supreme judge the Supreme Spirit of the universe and of course in front of your rabbis and I can assure you if we do a wonderful service and you pray with conviction in your heart that your case will be heard by the Supreme Spirit and I pray that we have an attorney in the front row that we will prove everybody to be innocent and you're free to go I pray at the end of our service so along the way let's recite the prayers my ancestors felt in their hearts would be acceptable to God and they would be free to go at the end of their day of atonement so we're going to call our kids up to the Bema now and we can sound the chauffeur we can sound a couple of sounds with our wonderful chauffeur play any kids want to come up to keep any age come up we'll just take a few minutes and write the entrances on the sides here and we have lots of chauffeurs over here with the kids involved here we go lots of shofar is here and while they're coming up on the pulpit I want to acknowledge to you that I'm just very grateful look how numerous we are today and you know we did not even sell one ticket I think you're all are you just crashing the high holiday services or something actually we decided years ago not to sell tickets but rather to do what Moses did in the Torah to ask the Israelites for terumah so anytime during the service or if you're at home you can go online please help support these outreach services for all humanity I'm gonna quote Moses and all I am doing is just living by words of the Torah the Lord spoke to Moses saying tell the Israelites to raise a contribution which they called terumah and terumah means a gift from the heart for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give you shall raise a contribution to Roma to create a sanctuary we've created a beautiful sanctuary so I may dwell among them and the people gave generously and a sanctuary was created and is created today and thank you in advance for your wonderful terumah to help make these services possible god bless you and if you're online you can text to Roma two nine one nine nine nine on your phones or you can go online to Rabbi online and make a contribution to rumor there god bless you all let's direct our attention now shall we look at these beautiful kids look at the what do you want to do come on kids come on in front hey how you doing good to see you god bless you bless you god bless you come on kid hey how are you all these my future bar mitzvah kids right hey give my bar mitzvah boy you've already had a Bar Mitzvah good okay I wonder we want to copy Seth Seth is gonna play some sounds the first sound he's going to play now when he sounds his chauffeur come up a little closer you want to buy in front of the camera come up here come on up in the front here come up right up here right up in the front no the front oh but you want to go one side I'm gonna go on the other side too this might be your beautiful first appearance in front of the cameras and in front of people you've already done this before - okay it's just no big deal on that right just simple right okay okay so we're going to start off with the nice sound - kiya now before you sent two key ACEF the key is a long blast it's a sound that is if as God is breathing the Ruach into our existence from animated clay we became filled with rock and this is the sound that in essence symbolizes ruoff the very breath of life breathed into us and a wake-up call for our service today so we're going to say - ki all and copy seth kids it doesn't wait good no this keg like that watch wait set can you make this and work let's see if Seth can make it work doesn't work yes you do it works it works it works how about our next sound civil Rheem civil Rhema three broken blasts and I would explain its a staccato sound representing some of the perhaps broken dreams that we've experienced during the year promises that we could not keep pledges and desires that have not come true that we want to keep and they we pray will come true in the coming year so shibori m-- show us what you've arena is that kids i'ma try one let's try one more how about a teru teru all or 9 or more and 9 or more broken blasts the big voice they shout like an alarm to awaken us and urge us to continue to pray kids [Music] [Laughter] beautiful at the very end of our service we're gonna give everybody a little bit of a chance to experience a bit before the end the very end of our service we have what we call a takea Ghidorah it's the big sound summoning us to continue on in our life in the coming year with good spirits and with atonement so let's do it - kiya Godot and now what you can do is you can copy set that it might be about five minutes before he finishes so copy 7c takea gaedola nice big long blast [Music] beautiful the longest chauffeur blast in history Seth Merlin kids you want to try it wait a real long one get a good [Music] good are we awakened this is better than a cup of coffee but waking our spirits beautiful let's quiver mazelTov for the kids we can put our shoppers back here you can bring your chauffeurs back if you like and we can continue with our awakened spirits for the Day of Atonement beautiful we're so proud of them thank you kids is that your acceptance ours sorry okay you like that one okay good you can use ours anytime you like let's continue our service shall we on the page for it's a beautiful story about a young man praying and the synagogue and is his praying he's stumbling across a couple of words and the rabbi in the side hears him praying and says what is it my son why you don't know the oppressed you with the prayer he's saying God you know what I'm doing I'm saying a prayer at night and I feel like I'm telling a lie because I really don't believe what I'm saying and the rabbi looked over the prayer and and and the rabbi said the young man what is it they don't believe it says here I'm the MA I mean I believe in God with a perfect faith and I really don't believe that I've had a really challenging year I've had situations come up that have questioned my belief in God and I feel like I'm telling a lie when I say Oh God I believe in you with the perfect faith and so the rabbi looked over the prayer and he said son it doesn't mean that exactly it means Oh God may I believe in you with the perfect faith and I'm sure none of us have a perfect faith in God at all times in fact my late father rabbi dr. Emmett Frank said if you can have a perfect faith in God just for a glimpse of your entire life now might be enough because all of us from the days of the week to the Shabbat we build up our faith and then all year until Russia shown on where you were building up our faith so that maybe we have a glimpse of that at one of these services or at some time in our lives that have a perfect faith I've had people say rabbi you know god is great it's wonderful God is a magnificent and then that same person I don't believe in God anymore because this happened - that happened and rabbi Schneerson the great Lubavitch Rebbe I was approached one day by a man who said rabbi I don't believe in God and the rabbi looked at him it says you know the God you don't believe in I don't believe in either implying that if you knew God the way I know God the way all of us as Jews know God then kept God alive for centuries if you knew that God you would have a faith in God not a perfect faith but a glimpse of a faith in God so let's continue with this beautiful service the affirmation and we're going to cry out to God in a sense symbolically he mainly Here I am God many of us feel that God isn't with us throughout the year and it's not that we have God has turned his or her back on us perhaps maybe we've turned our back on God so here's a beautiful affirmation on page 4 the day of decision that has rise now I'm gonna ask [Music] [Music] I'm going to ask you I own our production to play that piece that my father stated and said maybe 60 years ago we were standing this day all of us [Music] Oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and it so let's continue our service with the Heaney on page four let us pray together shall we as we remain standing this is the day of God on this day we are called to the sanctuary by summons as exalting and enduring as the everlasting hills prepare to meet your God o Israel this is the day of awe what are we as we stand in your presence O God a leaf in the storm a fleeting moment in the flow of time a spurn this is a day of decision today we invoke you as the molder of our destiny help us to mend the evil of our ways to write two hearts old wrongs on this Sabbath of the soul inscribe us for blessing in the book of life this is a day of atonement we would return to you as penitent children long to return to a loving parents we confess our sins in this day knowing that the gates of repentance are always open receive us with compassion and bless us with your forgiving love please be seated maybe we'll have that audio for you in just a few moments let us continue our service on page 5 as we pray responsibly together let us pray not for ourselves alone do we pray not for ourselves alone but for all your children knowing our failings let us be patient with those of others knowing our will to goodness may we see in others a dignity that as human a beauty and violet forever every soul Lord is precious in your sight and every life is your gift to us you once stands poised to strike the next armies uproot vines and fig trees as war and Wars alarms make all afraid we pray happy are those who dwell in your house they will sing your praise forever maash Rios baby taka OD halle-loo ha ha I will exalt you my sovereign God I will bless your name forever together on page six great is the Lord and worthy of praise his greatness is infinite they shall consider your radiant glory and they shall speak of your awesome might and make known your greatness the Lord is gracious and compassionate endlessly patient overflowing with love the Lord is good to all his compassion shelters all his creatures all your works O Lord shall thank you they shall speak of the glory of the kingdom and tell of your strength your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom you Dominion endures through all generations and the eyes have all returned to you you sustain them in time of need you open your hand to fulfill the needs of all the living we pray Lord you are just in all your ways and loving and all your deeds the Lord is near to all who call upon him to all who call upon him in truth he will fulfill the hope of all who revere him he will hear their cry and help them the Lord preserves those who love him but the lawless he brings to grief my lips shall declare the glory the Lord let us all together blessed God's holy name forever and ever we bless the Lord now and always hallelujah he lotto Taniya da Bear P by Barack Obama kotsoni album by Bono Navarre ripp y'all Tommy hallelujah you know I'm called to mind on the past couple of pages that we read we have many synagogues so many liturgies have been changed around to make them gender sensitive because we refer to God as him right in our particular prayer book so sometimes they've changed some of the definitions of God rather than him I say supreme spirit that the university's books are about 30 or so years old and so I had a lady that came to me and says rabbi you know I'm very gender sensitive and and you have the book is all about God being a man and I said I know what but I feel it's a father mother God and supreme spear at the universe well can you please change that book around she said this is storage a joke so don't take it to tour and I said okay so I took out the word I took out the word God and Supreme Spirit the universe I added instead of saying him I said Supreme Spirit the universe and so she came back to next week and she says you didn't change the book around and I said what do you mean I called God's supreme spirit to the universe she says yet when the next page there's a word hymns oh I'm so sorry um let me uh I want to be politically correct here let me I'm sorry I'll change them the songs we did that and she came back the next week and she's a rabbi you said you're gonna make the prayer book gender sensitive and I said I did I changed she's well what about the end of the prayer it says amen and I said okay I want to be politically correct so I changed that and I said the end and I asked that nice lady I said where are you from of course is his story - Joe is that boy - she said I'm from person hatten so please excuse my politically-incorrect nasai having God as a him if you want to say Supreme Spirit of the universe and these are the prayers that are literally taken from our parable the Tanakh and God was always referred to as him and same way with the patriarchs not too many matriarchs were ever mentioned in the prayer so bear with us and we'll make this a very gender sensitive service to after all God created man first so then God said I can do better and create a women so we have deep respect for the women let us continue our service on page 9 shall we let every living soul bless your name O Lord our God and let every human being acclaim your majesty forever and forever through all eternity you are our God we have no king and queen but you together God of all ages ruler of all creatures Lord of all generations all praise to you you guide the world with steadfast love your creatures with tender mercy you neither slumber nor sleep you awaken the sleeping and arouse the dormant you give speech to the silent freedom to the enslaved and justice to the oppressed to you alone we give thanks we continue as we pray together on page 10 and by the way those who are watching on TV at home they can download the prayer book through our website so you can get a follow along in the service you can do so even by your phone or your iPad or whatever device you have you can download the prayer book you can read straight from your phone or from your iPad or whatever smartphone together on page 10 let us pray through our mouths should overflow with song as the sea our tongues with melody as the roaring waves our lips with praise as the heavens wide expanse and though our eyes were to shine as the Sun and the moon our arms extend like eagles away our feet speed swiftly is deer still we could not fully thank you Lord our God and God of all ages or bless your name enough for even one of your infinite kindnesses to our ancestors and to us therefore O God limbs and tongue and heart and mind shall join to praise your name every tongue will yet affirm you in every soul give you allegiance as it is written all my limbs shall say together Lord who was like you and David sang blessed the Lord O my soul and let all that is within me bless His Holy Name [Music] oh okay say it Romany song you are tremendous in power Oh God glorious is being mighty forever and awesome in your works together Oh King supreme and exalted you abide forever the high and holy one therefore let all who are righteous sing your song the upright do well to acclaim you the mouths of the upright acclaim you the words of the righteous bless you the tongues of the faithful exalt you the hearts of all who seek holiness sanctify you Oh King supreme spirit the assembled hosts of your people the house of Israel in every generation glorify your name in song Oh sovereign God great and holy King let your name be praised forever in heaven and in earth blessed is the Lord the sovereign God the Lord of Wonders who delights in song the only one the life of the universe [Music] [Music] and now we're gonna rise and I hope we have that wonderful audio and it's a little bit of a video too I believe right so maybe we can put that on okay Yael you have that yes let us all rise for the bar who now keep in mind all of our prayers in essence are praise to God because we stand in front of God to all of you your little ones your tribes your ahead all of you are standing before me we stand as Jews all of us before God this night we stand by our actions we stand by our deeds we stand by what we are doing God judges us by our actions not by the words we utter here on this holy night I am concerned I have heard the words of Hillel resounding across the centuries if he were to be here tonight and preach I know the famous quotations of his would resound from this pulpit and we would stand in awe of his presence you are standing this day all of you how meaningful that phrase becomes when we hear Hillel say to us if I am NOT for myself who will be for me and if I am for myself alone what am i and if not now when this is a night when God asked us where are you my people you are standing this day all of you before me your tribes your elders all of you even your little ones we have come here to do something for ourselves we have come to the sanctuary to find strength of purpose we have come to this sanctuary to seek God and to find the strength that we might do will Heather on page 12 as we say bar who at Adonai Humber ah praise the Lord to whom our praises do bar Oakland and I on Barack lay alum Viad praised the Lord to whom our praises do now in forever so we sing Laura who at Darden I humble rock baruk on and I am Barack Leo Lombard Lord of Darkness and on the God who opens the gates of Mercy who gives light to all who await forgiveness be with us on this atonement day we pray Lord God of hope and joy be with us this day be with us as we look for strength to be free freedom to struggle against those who worship power and power to resist all who would oppress us all one and only God you have made each of us unique and formed us to be united in one family of life be with us eternal one as we seek to unite our lives with your power and your love we pray please be seated bhai when they know the total artists ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha did I [Music] [Music] gosh [Music] the toilet is now a groove a new band meets all day let us continue our prays to God let us all rise to recite the watchword of our faith the affirmation of our faith the Shema and many of us know who have been congregants for many years and every synagogue that I've been to and in every time we decided the Shema no one ever translates except for us here one word in the Shema and that is the word Israel no one ever they keep on saying here o Israel the Lord is our God the Lord is one which is beautiful but the meaning of Israel is even more profound and makes that beautiful affirmation even more profound than what it sounds so what is Israel mean of course the country Israel you can see live pictures of the Kotel Israel means one who tries to comprehend God's ways many of us are not able to comprehend God's ways we must have faith to do that and just know and trust that everything is in perfect order so here all of us not just Israelites not just Jews but all humanity that we're all together as one trying to understand God's ways and struggling with life and yet if we have faith there's no struggle when we have faith in God with the real conviction that everything is in perfect order so let's recite this beautiful affirmation now that Shimon knowing what Israel stands for instead of saying here o Israel let's say here o Israel all of us who trying to have faith in God or struggle with God's ways but we shall know that everything is in perfect order so let's say together shema yisrael adonai elohenu adonai echad hear o Israel the Lord is our God the Lord is one baruch shem kavod mahute Olea Lumbee ed blessed is god's glorious heavens forever and ever shall we sing Shema is [Music] baruk sham kavod mahute Oh Leo Lombard please be seated I pray that that new meaning we'll add a stronger conviction in our faith our next prayer is the via hasta the via hot des appear it's encased in the mezuzah and as we were mentioning last night you know the mezuzah is a little box if you will or ornament if you will that's placed in the doorpost of our homes and everybody have a mezuzah if anyone does not have a mezuzah let me know you can call me or reach out to me and not be honored to give you a mezuzah in fact I have a gift a small little gift little miniature mezuzahs that I wear and I've been giving out over the years and I have a couple of them around so if anyone would like to come up and get them Azusa a little lapel pin MZ's in a little bit I'll be the honor to present it to you but first let's recite together the beautiful via Hoffa this is a parrot's encased in the mezuzah that grace of doorpost of our homes now I always tell a little story many times their new car against that are here that don't hear it settle into behalf of them and if you've already heard this please bear with me there was a very wealthy man who gave beautiful gifts to one of his employees and the employee was very proud that these beautiful gifts are very valuable and one day this employee says what can I give this this man he's so wealthy he has everything I know what I'm gonna do I'm gonna give him something that's priceless so he gave him a little box and inside that box was a scroll which is the via hafte we're gonna translate in just a moment and he presents it to his boss if you will and the boss opens it up and sees this wooden box and a little piece of paper inside and he looks at it kind of funny he says you know with all due respect I've given you very expensive gifts and you give me this little box here with a piece of paper in it you know I'm appreciative thank you so much but how did you decide to give this to me after I what I've done for you and the man said served with all due respect all the gifts you've given me or beautiful and I love them a magnificent but I have to protect them I had to lock might put them in a safe I had to lock my house and I have to secure them and I I'm concerned about them the material things you've given me but the thing I just gave you we call the mezuzah the scroll inside symbolically it's like a sticky note it's a reminder that you are protected by God the Almighty if you will and with that it becomes a priceless gift so it's even more value perhaps then all the material items that we own in fact the other day I was it summoned to someone's home and as I walked up to the front door I noticed they had surveillance cameras in the house and protected by surveillance cameras it said another sign said this is not a gun-free zone and I saw Moses on the door I said ah now I really feel safe there's a mezuzah in the door and when I walked in he says yep the Moses is the most important so let us pray this beautiful mezuzah prayer the AHA thoughts on page 14 together Mabel call the Cantor's and the rabbi's will all come forward we can all say together when you put it up on the screen and can you read that big enough to read okay together let us pray the 1/2 tie at at an ILO - behold above ha uber konoha uber call me Odessa bhai you had varam hi Ayla I share I know he Mitsuba hyoma Alava beca machine on Tom Lee Wanaka buddy Bharat a bomb Beshear taka baby taka of lek taka by Derrick who shocked pakka ooo-ooo Mecca ook sure Tom load all yudhiqa ba hai you lakota folk benin ephah OOP Tov Tom on mezuzot Bay TECA movie Sharif you know that right let us pray together you shall love the Lord our God with all your strength with all your mind with all your being set these words which I command you stay upon your heart teach them faithfully to your children speak of them in your home and on your way when you lie down and when you rise up bind them as a sign upon your hand let them be a symbol before your eyes inscribe them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates Lamont East Carew Seaton at Cole meet so ty for height MK to Shimla hello - honey Adonai Elohim I share Jose tea at f-- m merits meet Raheem the he o Lapham the Elohim I need Adonai Elohim all main together be mindful of all my mitts vote and do them so shall you consecrate yourself to your God I the LORD am your God who led you out of Egypt to be your God I the LORD am your God oh man beautiful thank you very much I'd like to before we continue with our service just give a overview of our purpose here today and that is to have our prayers completed with conviction and said with integrity and conviction so that when the gates symbolically closed for the beginning of the new year that we will be sealed and we can write ourselves into the book of life for a new year that is our purpose of our prayers it's like a plea to God now to allow us to enter into your new year to enter us into the life of one more year so I have a little statement to share with you and it was inspired by a dear colleague of my father rabbi Emmitt Frank rabbi samuel silver and I'm sure you can relate to this you've not I'm sure heard the story but perhaps it rings true to all of us a man went to a psychiatrist and he said you know I have a little bit of a problem I to myself all the time and the doctor says well you know that's not so terrible everybody talks to themselves all the time yeah but you don't know what a fool I am dear congregation dear congregants instead of speaking to you as a rabbi I'd like to talk to myself on this very special time of the year Yom Kippur and it's a time where you can speak to yourself also in a very meaningful way because Yom Kippur is a different type of a holiday than all other holy days because things are turned around we speak about other people all the other holidays for example on Passover we speak about the strength of Moses for not taking no for an answer from the Pharaoh in fact 10 times he received an O actually 9 times and then the 10th that was a yes but even then the Pharaoh changed it to an Owen came after our ancestors and chased them into the desert if you will and I'll we're gonna talk about that in a minute the other holiday which is a very special holiday he speaks about another hero if you will here Owen the courage of Esther Esther and Mordecai on Hanukkah we speak about yet another hero about the Maccabees as they staged their first battle in to redeem the temple and receive that oil that is an essence that near Tommy the eternal light that burned for eight days or longer but on this day on Yom Kippur we focus on ourselves we can be and I know you will be a hero because you can affect change within yourself and change within your family and friends and what can we do to make ourselves better people we can become masam toven doers of good deeds we can change our ways for the better or I'm sure many of us I don't want to be too ego about it you can just continue the way we are be these perfect beings but it's very few of us that can honestly say that we are perfect in everything that we do so I pray that this service will help you to achieve to become a hero in your own life and a hero to the ones that you touch and the ones that you sure like with so at this time let's continue our service on page 15 shall we in this world waiting to be redeemed our our hearts cry out cannot our dearest hopes at last come true many are our defeats yet how many are deliverances after servitude to Pharaoh we choose service to God after exile in Babylon we rebuild God's shrine yesterday's wounds so nearly fatal begin to heal and Israel living still plants new seeds of redemption together this brings up the very special time when this prayer when this affirmation was originally said but first we're speaking about Israel and Israel is celebrating this year 70 years of Independence and that wonderful it's a great time to be a Jew great time to be Jewish we spoke about that over the years haven't we about the word Jewish versus a Jew when you ask someone who's a different religion what's your religion they say I'm Christian I'm Baptist when you ask someone who is a Jew they you don't need to say I'm a Jew I'm Jew I'm Jewish what's wrong you can't say Jew I mean people don't say I'm Christian ish we're Jew particularly this time of the of our millennium if you will or this time of history this is a great time to be a Jew Israel 70th birthday the capital of Israel is in Jerusalem as we prayed for over the centuries and the US Embassy is in Jerusalem what a great time to be a Jew so in this spirit when our ancestors escaped at the beginning of our lineage as Israelites to become Jews when they escaped if you will or were freed by Pharoah we ran out into the desert because Moses had led us to the desert saying we better get out now while we can before Pharaoh changed his mind and sure enough Pharaoh changed his mind and you know the story we went out into the desert and what happened we get to a dead end what happens the Seas parted that's in the movie cease until DeMille it isn't that I don't think that happened what happened they took a shortcut well the story goes like this if you will it's again it's a symbolism but I believe this one you see when Moses got to the sea of reeds if you were all to see the Red Sea Moses didn't know what to do and he pleaded out to God dear God did you lead us here to be slaughtered in a desert is this what your purpose was I can't believe I've had a perfect faith in you or tried to have a perfect but now I'm really questioning my faith and with that Moses said a beautiful prayer at the INA back off we know it's the first prayer we say on a book all right put the honor bacopa please they Moses said ana bekhoakh do lot you mean kata teared surah dear God with the power of your right hand free us from this terrible situation that we are about to face free us from this and with that one Israelite was inspired and he stood up and he walked out into the sea of reeds of the Red Sea he walked out and he kept on walking up to his ankles and people saying knock shun come back you're going to drown are you trying to god forbid commit suicide what are you doing and he kept on walking with faith with that beautiful prayer on a Bacardi Limon Fiat that georges seurat dear God with the power of your right hand do something he took it upon himself and he walked out and he goes up to his waist up to his shoulders and then finally up to his neck and to his chin and all the way in and these people saying I was come back and he they figured he's drowning and he went all the way in up to his lips and his nose was still able to stick out of the water he was able to breathe and he kept on walking the water wasn't any deeper than that and so with that all the hundreds of thousands of Israelites followed him it took that one individual to be inspired by that one affirmation which we can say now and keep for ourselves and I've used that many times and it's worked she'll repeat the story how it worked again mom should I tell the story again many of you might have heard it but it's true it's a true story my mom's blushing right there in the front well my quote 93-year young mom so one day my mother calls me on the phone that she says Loring you got rush home quick your son Emmett god bless him he has a temperature of a hundred and five degrees oh I was like mom I'm rushing home right now shower running home and I'm and I don't know what to do by remembered that beautiful miracle prayer Arabic call could you light me the hot Tottie read surah dear God but the power of your right hand do something with my sons it's save him and I get home and I see my son lying in bed with the thermometer sticking out of his mouth and I look at the thermometer said mom what are you look at the mom and I'm trying to read the the thermometer I said mom this is thermometer this is this must be like 60 years old I said I fact I remember this thermometer when I was a little boy did not go on my mouth get that out of his mouth right now I ran over to the CVS or Walgreens I'm serious a true story and I and I get a new one of those patches or whatever and I rush home and I placed it on my son took the temperature 101 the thermometer was broken mom it's all because of that preparer who would ever have thought that the sea would not be deep who would ever have thought that the thermometer would be like a 60 year old thermometer but with the power of a miracle that's what happened so I pray this prayer you can keep it on of a clock would you like me hot to tears wrong with that all the Israelites went into the sea they got to dry land and when they got to dry land they said a beautiful affirmation on page 15 let's do the honorable call shall we beautiful [Music] tme ha ha ha I'm classically new I knew [Music] I love you love you mean the [Music] minuite only Shane a UH bar pen Amanat Ali for Taha call tonight Mick I gave up oh please be seated the next prayer unit on otoko on page 18 it's a beautiful prayer that clearly sets before us the theme of our entire Yom Kippur service that we pass under as sheep if you will under the staff of God and God makes a decision who shall live who shall die and so on as set out in this prayer an ancient prayer it's symbolic I don't think we can take it necessary literally but it's very symbolic and during this beautiful prayer we turn within to know that we can inscribe ourselves in the book of life through our actions now it brings up another point that I've been sharing with congregants throughout the years and I've asked people what percentage of our life are we really controlling what percentage of life do we really really control you know just because you have a certain degree a doctoral degree to be a doctor doesn't mean that you're gonna be the best doctor in the world and just because you're a rabbi doesn't mean you're gonna be the best rabbi because you have all these degrees as a CPA or will or just even in your own professions it's who you are as a person that makes your destiny also so we just can't say we're turning everything over to God and God forbid jump off a cliff and God's gonna save me because I have a faith in God we are partners with God as rabbi Maimonides stated that we can choose good or evil we can choose life where we can choose death so over the years I've just as in it kind of like a philosophical question I've asked people questions and it depends upon sometimes their age more so than anything I've asked them in your opinion what percentage of your life have you controlled to be right here to be with us right now what percentage of your life have you really controlled to be here think about it for a minute how much is really attributed to God whatever God means to you our Mazel our luck if you will or our blessing they were blessed our ancestors didn't take this for granted that we are here that we plant a seed in the ground it's going to sprout they had to say a prayer the barakah thought an island alkyl um-hum Otzi let them in are it's not dear God you bring forth their bread from the earth but rather dear God you caused that seed to sprout you have given the rain nowadays we take this all for granted but I'm asking people what percentage think about this it's a time now when we are at one with ourselves and with God our Creator what percentage of your life do you think that you have created for yourself and that brings you today now I've learned over the years that the older one becomes the percentage goes down I've asked people in some of the retirement homes and nursing homes that I'm serving what percentage of your life have you controlled to be right here you know what they say 3% the rest is I've been blessed by God I've been blessed so we can create our own destiny but we need the blessings from God I mean for example did you choose to be born a man or a woman did you choose to have green eyes or blue eyes or brown eyes did you choose to be born in this time of millenia did you choose your parents did you choose to be born into wealth or into poverty did you choose the color of your hair women I know some of you change the color okay you did I'm sorry so when I ask people these questions the younger they are they say yes I'm controlling 90% of my life the kids say yeah I'm doing everything I'm controlling it all but the older we get we realized we are really blessed to be right here now aren't we to be at this age no matter what our ages are now I did speak to a scientific person a very if you will a scientist I can't remember his name who wrote a book it's like want them thinking quantum thinking and I asked him that same question being that he's a scientist and here's his answer I asked him what percentage of your life do you feel that you are controlling I mean for example did you choose to be a man or a woman and you know what he said I'm here as a man as if to say spiritually speaking maybe way back maybe our minds can't comprehend it that we have chosen everything that we have at this point not even knowing it but that was his particular point of view but our ancestors did not have that point of view they had the point of view of exactly what we're reading in our beautiful prayers that we have turned our lives over if you will to having a belief in God that know that we are to be gracious filled with gratitude and to proclaim God's greatness every moment of our lives so we will be blessed with life so in this spirit let's turn to page 18 and in a new experience of understanding on Rosh Hashanah we reflect on Yom Kippur we consider who shall live for the sake of others who dying so leave a heritage of life together whose hunger shall be for the good and who shall thirst for justice and right who shall be plagued by fear of the world who shall strangle for lack of friends who shall go forth in the quest for truth who shall be serene in every storm who shall be troubled by the passing breeze repentance to shove off you will prayer as we are performing today and charity terumah these return us to our God una tani talk FK the shot hi um can you know Ramayan whoa bohtan azeema hooded ha the Clio make lasted he's there for the Taoiseach belong potential along May [Music] let us proclaim the sacred power of this hour of this day it is awesome and yet sometimes we say it's full of questioning and dread for on this day your Dominion is exalted your throne established in steadfast love there in truth you reign in truth you are judge an arbiter counsel and witness you write and you seal you record and recount you remember deeds long forgotten you open the book of our days and what is written there proclaims itself for it bears a signature of every human being we pray as a shepherd seeks out his flock and makes the Sheep pass under his staff so do you muster and number and consider every soul setting the bounds of every creatures life and its destiny on page 20 we continue on Rosh Hashanah the anniversary of creation of human beings it is written on Yom Kippur it is sealed how many shall pass on how many shall come to be who shall live and who shall die who shall see ripe age and who shall not who shall perish by fire and who by water who by sword and who by beasts who by hunger and who by thirst who by earthquake and who by plague who by strangling and who by stoning who shall be secured and who shall be driven who shall be tranquil and who shall be troubled who shall be poor and who shall be rich who shall be humbled and who exalted Penton it's prayer and charity temper judgments severe decree we have created with our wonderful grow needs our Israeli singer and her beautiful Disraeli shalom ban a song that we were together one day we were speaking about these different affirmations that cultures have we were saying oh we were doing a little meditation we said and then we said Shalom and then we said perfect for our congregation because we're home this is home so let's turn our service over to Roni let's say that beautiful affirmation Oh home Shalom in the world Oh home home we're all in the word Shalom we have um another word is very simple we are here in our inner body with God and peace in our home with rabbi friend [Music] [Music] Oh oh let me be [Music] we got mine [Music] vacation home a lot Belu you can everyone sing along with us come on Oh [Music] oh please everyone wanna hear it oh you up there one more time everybody home [Music] Oh [Music] Oh [Music] I feel right at home beautiful runny we feel right at home every year beautiful let us continue our service shall we on page 21 this is your glory you are slow to anger ready to forgive Lord it is not the death of sinners you see but that they should turn from their ways and live and return to you until the last day you wait for them welcoming them as soon as they turn to you we pray man's origin is dust and thus is his end each of us is a shattered urn grass that must wither a flower that will fade a shadow moving on a cloud passing by a particle of dust floating in the wind a dream soon forgotten and let us as we continue our praise and gratitude to God so we may enter into the gates let us all rise and let us praise God and sanctify God's great name and we say we sanctify your name on earth even as all things to the ends of time uns place proclaim your holiness and in the prophets we say kadosh kadosh kadosh out of knifes of a oat maloha Haaretz Cavuto together holy holy holy is the Lord of Hosts the fullness of Earth's glory source of our strength sovereign Lord how majestic your presence is in all the earth bless it is the glory of God in heaven and earth for he alone is our God and our Creator he is our refuge and our ruler and our helper he is in his mercy reveals himself in the sight of all the living the Lord shall reign forever your God of Zion from generation to generation [Music] I need an item hello [Music] let's hear a chant Ronit from the door of a door from really nice that we took time like this too I'm reminded of a story we mentioned it last night about becoming a member of a synagogue or a church or a mosque if you will and you know people on our website you can join our synagogue just by giving us your name and your part of the synagogue no membership fees or dues or building funds you just simply can join and God willing if we can stay in contact with each other as we are now with our emailing and with our texting and so on we could do services more than just once a year you know let's have them every Friday night maybe you know all around South Florida wouldn't that be nice so let's do that with your assistance we can do that without having to join with the membership for you do I remind of a story it's a very interesting story there was a very classy if you will like our synagogue very classy synagogue Church or mosque if you will I don't want to cast aspersions on any particular branch of religion and the spiritual leader the rabbi the minister the pastor the priest whatever was delivering his service at the end of the service there was a homeless man who just took up residency in the back of the sanctuary and he came up and tattered clothing and he said to the rabbi minister pastor priest whatever I want to become a member of your synagogue and the rabbi knew particularly synagogues do you have to pay a membership fee that this man could not afford it and perhaps maybe in the church where they don't necessarily have membership fees they have you know kiting or whatever like a terumah this was the original way to build a sanctuary in the wilderness through terumah and perhaps they thought well this man doesn't really have much and or anything and so when the man came up this homeless man came up to the rabbi minister pastor priests and said I want to join your synagogue the spiritual leader must have thought to himself so the story goes well you know we have a very high-class church synagogue here and he said to the homeless man you know I want you to go home for a month and pray to God and when you come back then I'll let you join our house of worship so the mind knowing that he might not ever come back he's homeless sure enough about a month later this beggar if you will or homeless man came back and I want to join your house of worship and the spiritual leader said I'd like you to go back home and pray for another month and come back and then you can join our magnificent beautiful house of worship and sure enough a month later this homeless man came back and he said to the spiritual leader you asked me to go back and pray to God for another month and I did and I'm here today to join your house of worship and the spiritual leader says you pray the guy now what did God tell you God told me be patient young man I too have been trying to join this house of worship for twenty years but here we have instantaneous membership and instantaneous God is with us at this exact moment and we're so grateful to you you know originally when we tried out this quote if you want to call it an experiment or whatever not selling tickets this is maybe twenty years ago I had board of directors people saying oh you can't do that you gotta sell tickets you got I said no let's just turn it over like Moses turned it over and asked for terumah and people gave so generously he had to say you know stop you don't need anymore can you imagine that imagine the Jewish Federation saying stop we don't need anymore this year thank you very much but it hasn't happened with us yet so I'm still working on my prayer and my faith and my conviction because a rabbi said then he wants you know it takes you must have a lot of faith I said what do you mean he says you don't sell tickets you just let people come you must have a lot of faith it's all gonna work out and it's true I didn't realize that it could be a hurricane last year was there was a hurricane and our quote/unquote membership attendance was down a little bit maybe it could rain some people might be turned away but we do have one saving grace if you will or saving power it's called technology we call it high-tech buck item that if it rains and you can't make it here to the sanctuary and we have a smaller sanctuary than before I see wonderful it looks like a nice turnout and maybe about a thousand people I'm so grateful to you that you actually took time out of your busy schedule to be here rather than picking up your iphone or your computer and watching it on live streaming so we're grateful for your physical and spiritual presence here today once again it takes great faith than with your assistance in health and your generous terumah we're ever so grateful to you one last story when we originally opened up our tour my envelopes years ago we're opening them up and people have been giving generously whatever they gave checks or cash or whatever it's a great donation one envelope had nothing in it so someone in the synagogue said you know look at this how do you like that someone put an envelope in there with nothing in it the Hutt's love that person I said no no no that's a very special blessed envelope what do you mean rabbi that person probably could not afford to come to services and they held their head they walked up to the terumah box and they put in the envelope equal to all envelopes every envelope unless you have your name on it is anonymous which whatever you want to do and that person held his or her head up and dropped an envelope in and walked out very proudly that they are a member and they were able to come to services out of having to buy $100 or $150 ticket or become a member or whatever that's a very blessed that's hanging in my office that's special envelope and that's been an inspiration for all of us to know that everyone is welcome here at the bet Knesset Kohl ha Meem the all people's synagogue faith it takes great faith years ago you've heard of Charles Darwin Charles Darwin said had came up with the concept that's I'm sure it's very accurate that we have evolved into who we are and when that conversation began sometimes people began to lose faith he began that lose state they said you know it's just all through evolution which means that perhaps maybe we aren't able to create our own destiny I asked my borrow my dime it's the kids tell me what do you think on that Rush Hashanah the day of creation of human beings do you think Adam and Eve were created or do you think they evolved so I got all kinds of answers how do you feel about it think about it for a minute did Adam and Eve were they created by courting totora by God animating clay and breathing Ruach into the existence that Gollum if you will that animated clay and then all of a sudden the breath of air or breath the Ruach has breathed into them and became a human being do you believe that I'm not saying that it's right or but do you believe that concept that's written in the Torah or do you believe in like Charles Darwin that we evolved from animals or amoebas into human beings and I present this to my bar mitzvah kids I got some wonderful answers I see one of them here in the front really got front-row seats here good to see you so what is your opinion I want to ask your opinion do you think that we evolved or we were created created evolved so let me ask you a question this is the time when we were contemplating our existence on this day of atonement let me ask your opinion if we did evolve if we did evolve as Charles Darwin said we did then what would be the difference between an animal and a human being this all my dog has a nice soul he just licks me once in a while you know and I've got a good soul about him what would be a difference been an animal and a human being so some of my kids give me a strange answers well apes have a lot of hair I so I know some hairy people too and they say well eights but don't stand up on all fours I've seen a lot of apes run I've seen some people God forbid that they aren't able to walk and they're still a human being so we have always wonderful answers so in your opinion what would be the difference between an animal and a human being yes we've been speaking about when our ancestors believed whenever that ape whenever that animal if you will began to have a consciousness of right and wrong this is not Natur abut this is this is the the if you will annex donation of evolution whenever that animal began to have a consciousness or having even more so a belief in God that's when we became human beings and when we recite our prayers and when we teach our kids Bar and Bat Mitzvah we're helping them to become more conscious and have more of a faith in God because these prayers help us to become seem to veem doer of good deeds and you know it's possible to go backwards how many times we've been reading on the news our hearing on TV about human beings that have reverted backwards and become animals and have treated humanity with such disrespect and it's not humanity it's disrespecting God if you will the Supreme Spirit so with that we today are being in touch with our humanity our consciousness our belief in God and building up our faith in God to continue on to become even greater and better human beings let us continue our service shall we what page are we on now page 23 20 with h.323 we continue as we prepare responsibly and thank you so much for your - room everyone your generous contributions you know every year it's always worked out where it's covered everything that we have strived to achieve for you and I pray this year with a real faith that our gifts and our terumah without requiring membership fees or dues or tickets have helped to create this beautiful sanctuary in our prayers let us pray responsibly shall we on page 23 - all generations we will make known your greatness into all eternity proclaim your holiness your praise O God shall never depart from our lips we pray grant honor Lord to your people glory to those who revere you hope to those who seek you and courage to those who trust you bless your land Israel our country with gladness and all countries around the world and your city with joy and cause the light of redemption to dawn for all who dwell on earth God he can do shots call not each generation to generation' the flame of our faith has passed down together on page 24 then shall the justseeing exalt the upright be glad and the faithful sing for joy violence shall rage no more and evil shall vanish like smoke the rule of tyranny shall pass away from the earth and you alone O Lord shall have dominion over all your works for it is written the Lord shall reign forever and ever your God o Zion from generation to generation hallelujah you are a holy awesome is your name there is no god but you bless it is the Lord who rules in holiness team ha ha Bassam a red Hall puts me hot Karen the whole yosh may take [Music] we continue on page 25 you are with us in our prayer in our love and our doubts in our longing to feel your presence and to do your will you are the still clear voice within us therefore Oh God when doubt troubles us when anxiety makes us tremble and pain clouds the mind we look inward for the answer to our prayers there may we find you and there find courage and endurance and let our worship bring us closer to one another that all Israel and all who seek you may find new strength for your service [Music] [Music] on page 26 we continue with the responsive reading let us rejoice in the light of your day and the glory and warmth of the Sun and the reawakening of life to duty and labour we pray in the earth with all its hills and valleys its widespread fields of grain its fruit and hidden treasures and the love of fathers and mothers who have nurtured our lives whose blessing we have gone forth to our own work in the world in the children who bless our homes whose eager minds and hearts are the promise of tomorrow and friends who share our sorrows and joys in the fullness of the abundant life and the serenity of old age and in the peace that comes at last I'd like to extend they benediction at this point the service on page 27 it's a perfect place I know some people come and go during the service and the highlight of my being a rabbi isn't so much the rabbi part if you will it's the fact that I'm a cocaine how many of us are Co horny many men Coenen your daughters of your daughter of a Killeen you're ill and you're a daughter of your vodka Wayne you're a daughter of a Cohen how many of us are daughters of CO Haynes or sons of Coen konima good so all the men it's passed down from father to son also father to daughter but basically father to son the daughters typically according to tradition would that again that's I want to be gender sensitive is not passed down from daughter to children so those of us who are Co NIEM let me extend this benediction as you say with me and those of us who aren't this benediction is for all of us if you'd like you can rise and stretch your feet for a minute we can do the colon in prayer and the co Haneen originated with Moses's brother Aaron and from Aaron all the way down led to or beador from generation to generation the co name prayer has been handed down so the co neem lift up their hands in the form of the letter Shin for Shaddai this is on every mezuzah and when the co neem hold up two hands of the shin it's actually the big the head in the arms the third like kadosh kadosh kadosh holy holy holy here is the co name prayer that generally speaking becomes even more meaningful and profound when it comes from the lips of a Kohan and I'm proud to say I am a co him libera cotton IVA yes mother ha may God bless you and keep watch over you yo Ayrton I Paul novela kvitko Netcom may God's presence shine upon you and be gracious to you he sought a knife on Avila ha their same Akash ah man and may God watch over you my dear friends is blessed and holy congregation and grant unto you to all of us God's choices blessings that will be realized around the world I pray of Shalom a peace and let us say Amen Cana he wrote some and so it shall be you may be seated as we continue our service I pray that during the course of our service that we have been able to explain or to put into reality many of these prayers if not that there's anything you have a question about please this is like an open sanctuary please feel free to want to raise your hand or whatever or come up and ask me a question or whatever will be honored to make sure that you are heard and your questions are answered I pray let us continue on page 28 shall we Shalom Shem Shalom peace and happiness blessing grace love and mercy may these descend on all Israel all the world bless us O God one and all with the light of your presence for in the light of your presence we find the fullness of life faithful love and charity compassion blessing and peace together as we sing shim Shalom that's we can turn to page 29 and read the meditations also allez allez I look holy shrine they look cool Easter I love me ha I'll a Jew ah [Music] [Music] [Music] allez allez new police riot police [Music] lazy la batalla phony smile [Applause] beautiful may the words or our mouths and the meditations from our hearts be acceptable to you dear God - you are a rock and our Redeemer let us continue on page 30 as we continue with our praise to God for transgressions against God this day of atonement atones but for transgressions of one human being against another the day of atonement does not atone until they have made peace with each other together you know I'm reminded of a story about to show him a left home story I know you've heard it before for me if you've been here before it's about these two men that were at odds with each other because one had sold one a donkey and said it was a horse and the other had sold some land and said it was very fertile land and it turned out to be barren land so they were arch enemies but at Yom Kippur they noticed in the corner of their eye that Moishe law was over there and was over there they wronged each other and they stayed far away from each other but no hustle and bustle of the crowd they were all turned around and they oh it's you mashallah oh it's you slum Allah Masha Allah you know it's Yom Kippur and I forgive you I forgive you for selling me that donkey that you claimed was a horse and the other said you know I forgave you for selling me that land you claim was very fertile turned out to be barren land and they shake hands and give each other a hug they forgive each other as they turn around slow-mo turns around says moishale ah I wish for you everything you wish for me in the coming year and he says what are you doing starting up with me already with real conviction I wish for you everything you wish for me and I know that you know that I wish for you a prosperous healthy and very fulfilling life in the coming year so that you can be here again next year so I have a vested interest in all of you that we are together next year and throughout the year I would be delighted to hear from you for simplest also weddings and baby namings in bar and bat mitzvahs and sometimes when it's not so happy funeral or unveiling honored to be of service to you god bless you for your physical and spiritual presence and now let us rise shall we continue our knocking at the gates so that God will allow us to live symbolically another year and inscribe us as we inscribe ourselves in the book of life together we say our God God of our mothers and fathers grant that our prayers may reach you do not be deaf to our pleas for we are not so arrogant and stiff-necked as to say before you Lord our God and God of all ages we are perfect and have not sinned rather do we confess we have gone astray we have sinned we have progressed let us please be seated and let's take a few moments in the peacefulness of some nice music and let's meditate on page 31 shall we for a few minutes a little bit of nice peaceful music be nice and 32 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] at this hour as we are symbolically asking God for forgiveness and allowing us to enter into the gates of a new year and to inscribe us in the book of life or for us to be partners with God and inscribe ourselves in the book of life I'm reminded of a beautiful story about this person who came across this beautiful picture you know art gallery and it's a picture with the door open and outside of that door is a beautiful magnificent landscape scenery magnificent beautiful colors paradise and one person says the other you know that's a beautiful picture but there's one thing on the picture that the artist has left out [Music] the doorknob the handle of the door has been let out left out of the picture and the artist just happened to be right there behind them and I'm the artist I purposely left off the doorknob because the door has to be opened from within to go to paradise to be in paradise and that is the same with the gates of heaven on this Day of Atonement we are pleading and we're knocking on the door to God to let us in but it's not really God that lets us in it's that we have to let ourselves in from the goodness of our heart from within how can we expect God to forgive us when we hear knocking at our door our children our parents a knock and they knock and they knock just as we are knocking on the doors the gates of heaven to be inscribed in the book of life how can we ask for forgiveness to God when we have had knocks from others have we let them in have we assisted others when they knocked at our door how many times have we said no kept the door closed they knock and they knock and they knock have we opened up our hearts have we been charitable have we been open-minded yes dear friends we knock at the gates of heaven open the door dear God at this solemn hour of Yom Kippur open the door we cry from our innermost being dear God open the gates before the gates are closed at the nila service this evening and God knocks also on her hearts he knocks in our hearts God knocks in our minds God knocks in our souls to be let in we today cannot shut God out any longer too often God has shut out of our lives of our dear ones and too often we find that as God knocks he can knock and he can knock and he cannot and we do not even know how to say behold here am I Eenie Kanade cannot be only a high holy they experience God must be in everyday experience I'm reminded a beautiful word that when someone visits a synagogue once a year like we do and it's perhaps maybe my failings if you will that I haven't provided a house of worship every Friday night as some synagogues although I'm busy maybe doing bar and bat mitzvahs but I would like to be able to have a service every Friday night wouldn't that be nice or a Saturday morning or maybe even why not Sunday doesn't have to be only she could be any day I mean there are some beautiful magnificent preachers if you will Evangelic all teachers that are viewed on TV on Sunday and I've even seen some rabbis on Sunday why not Sunday but neither case I'm reminded of a story or a word that was expressed to me years ago in essence if we come to synagogue once a year and that come back for another year we are like tourists here come for a visit sometimes not even knowing why but we come as a calling to our heritage on Yom Kippur and many of us come as a tourist let's take a look list what's going on well of course leave at aroma we'll leave and we'll come back with on vacation next year to the same location although we've moved around a couple of times so I'd like to change that word from tourist to Torah ist's let's become tourists together and be inspired by the beautiful words of Torah and maybe with your help your support we can and with the power of hi-tech keep in touch with one another and be more in touch with our heritage and become better jews and better people through teachings of our ancestors and through the words of your inspirations that you have given to me that i pray i can give back to you so some of us even let God in when God knocks in our hearts we let him in a little bit we knock and God asks who is there it depends heavily whether that door opens and on to what it opens on to how we acted when we were the doorkeepers as parents as teachers as neighbors how we admitted people who have knocked at our door this past year and this coming year it would depend heavily upon the type of penitence the type of prayer that we gave and if it was done with conviction and sincerity and it will be depending upon your generosity whether that door will open we pray dear God open the door this coming year I pray for you when we pray together during this coming year the door of your heart will be opened open it to mercy open it to kindness open it on to love an understanding of your family your friends your fellow human beings open it wide to charitable deeds that we can perform for one another not just monetarily open the door to God and walk through that door I pray for a brighter new year and may God bless you all of us in the coming year with happiness health and peace I pray let us continue our service on page 33 who among us is righteous enough to say I have not sinned we are arrogant brutal careless sometimes destructive sometimes egocentric false greedy heartless insolent and joyless our sins are an alphabet of well together now may it be your will O Lord our God of all the generations to pardon all our sins to forgive all our wrongdoings and to blot out all our transgressions in raphe the hanging you may be live on Neha I don't know Daman adores me [Music] Oh [Music] dear friends on page 34 before we recite the Alpha it is in essence admitting that we have made mistakes whether these apply to us some of them or all of them or none of them but I want to just give a little moment before we recite these that let's not dwell on these mistakes we've made let's not waste any more time on them and being upset that we've done something wrong we're asking for forgiveness from God we ask and receive forgiveness from others so let's not waste any time on what we have done wrong and what went wrong let's instead use what we did wrong and use it as a learning experience and a blessing if it wasn't a blessing then it certainly can be a lesson so on page 34 let us pray the sin we have committed against you by malicious gossip the sin we have committed against you by sexual immorality and the sin we have committed against you by gluttony the sin we have committed against you by narrow mindedness the sin we have committed against you by fraud and falsehood and the sin we have committed against you by hating without cause the sin we have committed against you by our arrogance the sin we have committed against you by our insolence and the sin we have committed against you by our reverence the sin we have committed against you by our hypocrisy the sin we have committed against you by passing judgment on others and the sin we have committed against you by exploiting the weak and the sin we have committed against you by giving and taking bribes and the sin we have committed against you by giving way to our hostile impulses and the sin we have committed against you by running to do evil for all these sins O God of mercy forgive us pardon us grant us on this day eternal God as we continue on page 36 we come to you aware of our failings help us now to cast our sins away and define peace contentment teshuva together in your great mercy we place our faith your kindness is our support in your forgiveness we trust your deliverance is our hope just as parents show compassion to the children so do you dear God show compassion to those who revere you for as the heavens are high above the earth so is your love unending for those who serve you and praise you together as in your love you have been patient with this people from the time you let us out of Egypt to the present day so in your great love may you forgive all of us your people now and the Lord said I have pardon in response to your plea hear our voice O Lord our God have compassion upon us and with that compassion accept our father our King help us to absolve your name in the world our Father our king in your mercy accept our prayer our Father our king be gracious and answer us but we have little merit treat us generously and with kindness and be our health as for me this is our covenant with them says the Lord let not my spirit and the words that I have put in your mouth depart from you nor from your children or the before you recite this Aliyah let me explain our tour reading today it's just a brief overview our tour reading for Yom Kippur comes from the Book of Leviticus the Torah reading tells of the high priest that's the konima preparation for Yom Kippur only on this most solemn day today could a Kohanim hug a doll enter into the Holy of Holies of the sanctuary to plead to God for forgiveness for all Israel for all of us and as a cohan I'd take this very personally but the high priest prayers were not enough in addition every Israelite all of us I included was required to fast and sincerely atone on this day for wrongs that we have committed together then the high priest the cohen team and the israelites all of us were to seek God's forgiveness and knowing our ancestors prayers they created them so that they would be found innocent in that their pleas to God would be answered so in this spirit let us now recite the Aliyah blessing together everyone ready Oklahoma microphone together for who had an eye on baro baro cotton I'm Barack Leo vampire barroom Qatada 9l oh hey new melis alone I share bah-bah-bah no miko ha mean van Otten la new act or a tow bar will Katahdin I know Jane lifestyle so we can visit one another and see one another for the kneeler service the concluding service at green bar the directions and so on are on our website but it's denotes on 17th Street causeway a little bit east of federal highway green bar restaurant by the way I have koshered that restaurant I'm serious now if some Orthodox person said would you please kosher a restaurant that serves a meat or dairy products or whatever and I will I would say with all due respect that's not my quote style that's better to say your style I prefer to only kosher a restaurant for me it does not serve any animal products and that's one like green bar so they've given me the honor and I've blessed the green bar restaurant with a kosher seal it's above the restaurant it's called the Eco kosher ecologically kosher meaning not always a good for what we eat what we put in our bodies but it's also good for the environment and that's our takuna lung on this new year to take care of
