welcome to my party we're just getting started a life is a dream or a nightmare scarring hand me a drink cause I think I'm going all in get me a street cookie catch me when I'm falling cover up my scars flip the handlebars crash it in my car wake up in a bar or be a superstar just on my avatar this world is soap is all empty out the reservoir yeah I'm taking six shots yesterday guys welcome to jnp cycle I'm Joshua Charlie and we are doing an XR 200 versus a 250 today uh so basically I'm going to go ahead and start out this is a 2002 xr200 um this bike uh after 1992 or actually the year of 1992 the suspension was downgraded it's not adjustable it's not rebuildable uh so basically you're getting a bike that's a lot shorter it's not as competitive in the trail but it's good enough to go out and have a fun time um and uh you know the the front forks definitely bottom out if you do anything even remotely uh quick on it it certainly bottoms out and the rear shock on this is pretty pitiful as well so if you've been following along our other video uh we're kind of going over the how to kind of upgrade the suspension on this bike so uh this over here is a 1987. I'm sorry it's 86 86 86 250. so this is the bike you would buy if you found one of these as a rolling Parts bike that would be the parts you'd take and put on here to upgrade your suspension so you have a disc brake on this one the forks are a bit wider you know if you're they're beefier yeah you know they have more uh you know just more more stability more stability yeah I mean when you hit a jump or something I wouldn't say you'd probably want to be jumping off ecliffs with this bike but it certainly has uh better suspension than your 200. um the rear shock is adjustable it has adjustable dampening on it um so it's certainly ahead of the game as far as the 200 goes so as far as suspension goes the 250 gets the win in that book the next thing is Comfort um both XR bikes I don't think I've really ever sat on an XR that's been uncomfortable uh but as far as the seats go and you can see it's a pretty plush seat right I mean I think pretty much everyone here has ridden a 200 at some point so you know it's a fairly comfortable bike has a nice seating stance your back doesn't get sore when you're out for long rides um so I love the seat on this bike if I could have this exact seat on every bike uh I think the world would be a better place and this this seat here this is the 250 seat it is a little stiffer but it has a nice ceiling stance just like the other XR that we have here pretty comfortable um we've ridden these for for many hours out on the trails so uh there you know there they're great for for a long ride so I would say there'd be a tie for the two of these you would agree oh yeah yeah big long rides uh more power a little less power but uh Comfort it's very comfortable bike yeah both bikes equally comfortable um not going to beat you up too bad unless you're bottoming out the whole time and that's just because of the suspension on the 200. yeah next we're gonna get into the power so the 200 is a single cylinder uh four-stroke engine just like the 250. the only difference is this is a two valve bike the 200 is a two valve and the 250 is a four valve bike so you're gonna get a little more power obviously the bigger piston more valves um I mean I I think that the 200 is a little underpowered for anything that requires a lot of Hills or if you're you're riding in difficult terrain but where it really shines is when you're riding in really muddy areas it's great when you're going slower um you know you don't have to have the engine wound up all the time on it it's got excellent torque that's something that you'll definitely see with the 200 it's got great torque they're just fun to ride I mean I've ridden 230s I've ridden 250s I've ridden 400s the 200 is just a fun bike to ride you get one kick it fires right up um that is one thing with the 250 uh the kicking on it seems to be a little bit more to get it fired up but sometimes it fires up with one kick it just depends on the I think that the weather and uh you know barometric pressure right so I mean as far as power goes the 250 wins it is heavier by quite a bit I think this bike is like 225 and I think that 250 is probably up around 250 to 260 somewhere in there I don't know the official weight of it wet weight but I'm sure it's at least 40. 245 250. um the other thing you'll notice uh just just Parts wise this 2002 bike they stripped all the aluminum parts off of these after 1991 so obviously this is an older bike and it is um it has more premium Parts I guess you could say so it's got It's got an aluminum swing arm on it it's got an aluminum engine guard up front um you know the rims are aluminum I think they kept the rims aluminum on these newer xr200s as well but you know from that standpoint it's a little they tried to save some weight in different areas we put new Fork boots on this one this past summer so those are after market this is a cobra exhaust that's a a little bit more high performance on it so yeah I mean these these two bikes are great in the trail we have ridden both of these down at Wellsville if you want to check out some of the videos of us riding down there we've ridden these Down in Wellsville we've ridden them up at uh uh what was the place minds of Meadows um so we've done a couple trips out there you know they're both fun bikes uh you know the one thing I think you don't have to deal with with the um the 200 is when the bike gets really hot it's still pretty easy to start I think the the 250 struggles sometimes to start when it gets pretty hot that's something we've noticed about it after a long ride it's it's harder to start as you go along so if you lay it down it takes a little while to clear the carb just a little too much gas up yeah I mean definitely if you lay the 250 over and you you got to kick it a lot actually this past summer Pap laid the bike down and I light it upside down I had to kick that thing like a million times to get it to start until I was totally out of energy and it finally fired up thank God but it was it was definitely flooded if you can let it sit for 15 minutes then it'll probably start right up young man too much energy and the old man with the wisdom of having a little patience as I'm told today that's why I drive an electric start now yes I like to kick too old yeah good bike for a young guy and then you'll even notice the linkage on these bikes they kind of uh changed how the linkage works on the newer 200s as well um let me just grab my GoPro here and let me adjust these stands so everybody can kind of see what I'm saying very well um a few changes from the older bikes and I can actually have few in mind pulling out that older xr200 right there I can kind of show them the difference between the linkage that they change you don't have to pull it out too far just a little bit so you can see the linkage down here they actually changed um they kind of removed I think some of the the pivot pieces to it and then there aren't any grease fittings on the newer bikes so uh you know it's not gonna hold up as well I mean if you look at this older bike here that's perfect right there um you know they've got grease fittings on all these different pieces and Below um so grease fittings are really nice to have on an older bike or really any bike I wish that the 230s and the the newer 250s of this world would have grease fittings as you can see on this older this is a so I'm not wrong in saying it the plates on the other side see what year this bathroom is 1988 88. so here's an 88 and uh you can see that they changed the linkage on this you can see that it's a little different they've got like a single single spline down the middle and then they've got grease fittings all the way around on this entire bike so um you know the older bikes they just built them better I think and easier to maintain easier to take back apart with the grease fittings too because when you just tearing these things apart the ones without the grease fittings you've uh use a big hammer yeah I mean we've had a newer 2006 250X and there weren't any grease for things on it and we actually had to use a beryllium copper rod on one end to beat the axle through and then on the other end we had to use a a one inch threaded bolt and pulleyed it across and we beat that thing for hours until it finally came out so the because of they rust it gets Rusty and then it gets it all did up yep so that's the value of a grease fitting uh for people who work on their bikes comparison yeah and you can even see the difference in height between these two bikes it's slightly taller so so the older ones you know like I said yeah and it's I think the bike's more comfortable it's definitely more competitive in the trail so if you find an old one that's blown up like this and you want to put the old suspension you can see here they have the reservoir the soft and hard dampening uh for your rear shock and then the other thing is I've actually seen on the XR Forum so uh thank you for whoever posted that you can actually buy a KX85 rebuild kit and it will work on these xr200 so that is a great bit of information that I just found out thank you for posting that on the Forum I'm sorry I don't remember your name but that was definitely great information to have so if you need to rebuild your your shock you can buy a KX85 Kawasaki rebuild kit for KYB and you can rebuild your shock so yeah basically that's the review both great bikes if you can get one for a decent price pick it up go out hang out have a fun time it's good clean fun you know the 250 is more of a big boys bike if you're into kicking bikes and uh and and having something with more power you know this is the bike for you if you're into something that's a little bit more simpler to maintain and you don't want to have to kick it a bunch of times and worry about maintenance if you're just new to dirt bikes the 200 is a great bike to get started with um so really they're they're you know you can't lose when it comes to a Honda but uh you know the main thing is they're both well built they're both a lot of fun to ride and we've we've really enjoyed both of these bikes as we've had them so thank you so much and you guys have a great day
