hey guys my name is eric mcdonald i'm a worship pastor out of northern kentucky just wanted to walk you through my board some of the sounds that i like to create i'll just preface that i am more of a rhythm guitar player i don't do a ton of lead stuff but i really enjoy creating atmospheres and different ambient sounds so let's get started i am playing with a jennings voyager with mcnelly stagger swagger pickups the strymon iridium is acting as my amp i'm on the punch mode which is like a marshall it's set relatively clean into a focusrite scarlett 2i2 interface straight into garageband now coming out of my tuner i have two overdrives i have the 1981 drv and the benson preamp technically the benson preamp is my first stage overdrive i have it set to edge of breakup and if i really dig into the strings it gives me a little bit more and then i swap over to the 1981 as my second stage overdrive has a little bit more gain on tap and i actually prefer this by itself as opposed to stacking it so i'm kind of fortunate that both of these switches are close to each other that i can just hit with my foot and switch between the two so let me give you an idea about what those sound like here's the iridium by itself [Music] the benson preamp and the 1981. [Music] [Laughter] this is one of my favorite overdrives matt hoops did a fantastic job with it i'm barely even hitting the kind of game that you can get out of this thing so here's what really pushing it sounds [Music] like [Music] yeah love that thing all right next up i have the hologram microcosm this is my newest pedal that i got i haven't fully mastered it but it is incredible it has a ton of creative sounds to it essentially whatever you put into it it will record and loop back to you in different octaves glitches it'll warp things there's a looper in it you can reverse any sound that you want you can slow down the time let me give you an idea about one of my favorite sounds that i have is the mosaic setting and i'll do something like this for [Music] [Laughter] [Music] communion [Music] and then for example you can save a loop and kind of play over top of it [Music] yeah this thing is incredible it has and that's just one of the settings so i highly encourage you to check out more videos on that thing it is awesome super inspiring all right the next thing is the dimension c it's essentially like a chorus um it just kind of opens up the sound a little bit so here's an idea without it [Music] and then after the dimension c we go into the strymon flint and i will use this as a couple different things so like a typical tremolo but one thing i like to do with it is i'll put the reverb into the tremolo and i'll do the uh 100 wet mix on the reverb and it kind of creates this synthy tremolo effect [Music] out of this diamond flint we go to the timeline i primarily use this to recall songs with the bpms already set in them so that way i don't have to tap in anything so i hit a button build my life is already pulled up resurrecting so i will mainly swap between a digital dotted eighth delay or a tape quarter delay every now and then i'll use some reverse or some dual delays but this is primarily just to pull up songs uh quicker and then the stream in big sky for all my reverbs i have them set to different presets of sound so this is more for pulling up songs pulling up sounds so i have my hall kind of like my short normal uh always-on kind of reverb you heard both of these together with earlier in the video uh drone is one of my favorite things to do just to add space to things if there's not a lot going on like if there's a piano intro i have similar to what i said up here i have the mix at 100 wet with a long decay i'm picking different chords but you're not hearing the attack of it so you're only hearing the reverb part [Music] and i have some other sounds that i'll pull up like i have a shimmer um another one that i really like is the auto swell feature i'm not a fan of volume pedals so this is really easy just to be able to swell in chords [Music] and then one of my favorites is the cloud setting kind of like a longer bigger uh reverb that you can use so yeah that is basically my board uh i hope you guys like it would love to hear what you think uh in the comments below let me know what you guys are working with what you like to create sounds with and thanks for tuning in
