how we can at some point bring a smile to his face and that's what you just did when you sing those songs and you truly truly mean it you are singing to the king of the universe can you imagine the joy you bring to him it fills my heart that Christ would allow us to do that we're gonna sing one final song we're gonna sing page 294 294 from your hymnals we're gonna sing just the first stanza of page 294 power in the blood [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] good morning everybody you all had breakfast today a quest our Bible question today is being sponsored by lolly Matthew she's one of our members and she donated dollars hundred I'm going to ask a very simple question last week was a tough question I hope I think most of you will know this answer who was the best handler in the Bible Nimrod is the answer do you all know where it is found very smart it is found in Genesis 10 9 okay thank you happy Sabbath so the title of my mental health minute is decoding depression so in a recent seminar conducted by Harvard Medical School mental health experts it was mentioned that one out of ten suffer from depression in the United States worl herl World Health Organization reports that worldwide 3,300 million from all ages suffer from depression so Stephen E lard is a PhD and is a professor of psychology clinical neuroscientist and nationally recognized expert in treatment of depression says this he says there is a depression epidemic that is spreading and the likely reason is because of our lifestyles he talks about the experience of the Kalu Li's the people of the New Guinea Highlands these people have been studied exclusively exclusively by anthropologists Edward ceylon he's spent over a decade among the coolies one of his research questions was how often the coolies experienced the same kind of mental illness that we do experience he interviewed about 2,000 members of the coolies he extensively queried them for the experience of clinical depression and you know what he found one marginal case out of 2,000 dad gives some the rate of clinical depression that's probably about a hundred times lower than ours so because among other things the coolies lead really really hard lives they have high rates of infant mortality they have higher rates of parasitic infection they have high rates of violent death but they don't become clinically depressed they do grieve absolutely they don't get shut down so what's protecting them their lifestyle the coolies whose day-to-day existence is of hunting and gardening as well as subsistence farming to provide food for themselves and they are almost completely free of depressive illness we are never designed for the sanitary indoor socially isolated sleep-deprived fast food Laden frenzied pace of Mardin life so what's the result an epidemic of depressive illness so this gentleman's treatment program is called a therapeutic lifestyle change TLC is based on six targeted lifestyle changes each with established antidepressant effects on the brain and mind so I'm gonna go quickly over it physical activity of course exercise comes number one omega-3 fatty acids sunlight healthy sleep anti room additive activity in social connection so let's talk about exercise just for a minute exercise he says exercises of medicine exercise literally sometta s'en it changes the brain and the body and beneficial ways that are more powerful than any pill we can take if we could take he says if we could take the neurological and psychological effects of exercise and capture them in one pill all the beneficial effects of neuro signaling in the brain the anti-aging effects that all the way down to the level of chromosomes in every cell of our bodies the mental clarity enhancing effects he believes that pill will become the best-selling drug of all time so CDC tells us sixty percent of all Americans adults get no regular physical activity and yet if we look at the coolies they get four or more hours of vigorous activity every day in fact they look like alii light athletes even when they're in their middle age or beyond so if you ask them they will tell you they do not exercise they don't work out working out would be crazy for them so what do they do they live so what's the most natural activity in the world walking so specifically brisk walking like the kind that we're late for a bus that kind of walking will get out our pulse up to the aerobic range based on our age depending on our age our pulse needs to be between 120 and 150 that's enough to enhance signaling in the dopamine circuits and serotonin circuits and this has been tested head-to-head with against zoloft twice in the long term at one said what dosage thirty minutes three times a week that's a low dose it can change our life now this came from doctor LRD who's not an Adventist but let's see what Ellen White through our spirit of prophecy has to has before told about this there is no exercise that can take place of walking by it the circulation of the blood is greatly improved walking in all cases where it is possible the best remedy for diseased bodies because in this exercise of all the organs of the body are brought into use testimonies for the church three seven eight for sunshine she says this is one of nature's most healing agents for sleep she says sleep is worth far more before then after midnight two hours good sleep before twelve o'clock is worth more than four hours after twelve o'clock what she says about negative avoid negative thinking as we are not our own as we are brought with a price it is the duty of everyone who professes to be a Christian to keep his thoughts under the control of reason and oblige himself to be cheerful and happy so we can conclude sister wise counsels are consistent with science and these were foretold years ago for our own good so I pray and urge that let's implement these changes for her own good thank you amen I almost don't need to get up after that this is she did all the help talking for me praise the Lord so I just wanted to highlight how many of you know that this is outreach Sabbath our personal ministry's emphasis Sabbath know what one person two three four okay so maybe some of you don't know what outreach ministry does and so I just wanted to highlight some of the things that take place in outreach week by week so and this is not just an information but also an invitation for you to join us so every first Sabbath of every month we go door-to-door in our community what we do is we hand out literature to our fellow neighbors around and we also let them know about upcoming events and it's been a blessed activity to go out to meet our neighbors since we're new in our neighborhood and to really reach out to everybody and so we do that after church every first Sabbath and so we wanted to invite you to join us in that blessed activity also the second Sabbath of every month there's two groups that go out one group goes to the men's shelter in DC and actually has church service there and and we have church service and lunch with the men in that facility and we've been doing that for every four years now and it's been really great it's a blessing to really see how these relationships are being involved and how we're learning and we're growing together in the Lord and also there's a group that leaves after church that goes to a park in DC to distribute food and literature and clothing and hygiene products and so we invite you all as well to come with us every second Sabbath every third Sabbath in the afternoon we go to a nearby nursing home and we visit with the residents there we have a short church service and then we go around to the rooms individually and sing and pray with the residents of the nursing home in our local area so our outreach ministries is very busy and as Jesus said the fields are white they're ready to be picked we just need more laborers so we just ask that you would join us on any of these Sabbath's on all these events and if you'd like more information and outreach or how to get involved Richard accountant Sabina guante who is just appear they are the outreach leaders and they can definitely tell you how to get involved and maybe we can even have new ideas so there's something we can do for Sabbath or occasional fifth Sabbat that we're not already doing so I'm going to switch hats and also talk about health ministries so health ministries we do have a lot of events coming up that I wanted to highlight one if the PowerPoint can be put up about the clinic I'll go there next one thing is on this coming month September 19th through 22nd dr. mark Sandoval who's the president of UT Pines Institute will be here for our health emphasis weekend so please plan to come there's Flyers that are going to be handed out by our deacons as well about that and there's gonna be fliers in the foyer regarding that weekend so please come out it's going to be a wonderful weekend and then thank you for the for the PowerPoint we're gonna be having an amen free clinic so how many people do you know who would probably like to receive free medical dental and vision care anyone know someone like that okay more hands are going up so we're actually by God's grace gonna be able to provide that here on September 29th the the only issue is again we need laborers so as a PowerPoint says I don't know if you can see it behind me it might be a little low but we need volunteers so if you are a nurse physician's assistant a physician a nurse practitioner an optometrist physical therapist massage therapist if you have a great smile if you give great hugs if you like to pray with somebody we need volunteers to do a wide variety of things so as a screen says if you can take down this number if you're interested two four zero eight eight three six zero nine five and just text I am interested and will be able to hand you out some more information on that but we definitely need more individuals again it's less than a month away so please inform us if you're interested sooner rather than later one of the best one of the most blessed experiences I've had in in this church I would say is just being a part of what we've been doing for the past two years the Nedley depression anxiety recovery program and by God's grace we've seen 75 individuals go through the program in the past two years and I would like just two of these individuals I wish I could get all 75 up just to these individuals to give brief testimonials about their experience in the program and and then afterwards I'll also announce our upcoming program that's coming up so please come up Sanjay and Maryland if you could just tell briefly about your experience in the Nedley program and why other people should join good morning happy Sabbath so my name is marilyn and i had the privilege of taking part in the most recent Neil Nedley depression and recovery anxiety recovery program and when Amara asked me to share my testimony I was more than happy to because this program has been such a blessing in my life so I I would say that God really prompted me to sign up for the program I was on a business trip in California and during that time I was praying and fasting really seeking God to give me direction in my life because there are so many great things that were happening in my life all these blessings were unfolding prayers were coming to fruition yeah I was finding myself in a place where I was just not appreciative of appreciative of the things that were happening and really not even being able to like take part in these blessings that's kind of like on the outside looking in and I'm realizing like I should be happy I have everything I need everything I want things are happening in my life I have prayed for for four years but I'm not so this really prompted me to start praying and fasting and asking God you know what is going on something has to change but I don't know what it is so it was during that time in California God put on my heart the Neil Nedley program and a friend of mine had told me that they participated in the program a couple years before and I recall them telling me how much of a blessing it was in their life so you know right at that moment I was in bed got my iPad and looked for you know the next program and I just moved to this area not too long to go but I hits like the Adventists Mecca so I knew that there had to be something in the DMV area so lo and behold there was a program that I found that started here at remnant Church and when I found it it was two weeks two weeks into the program but you know I was like you know that's better than nothing so I reached out to dr. Amara and I asked her you know is it still possible for me to sign up for this program and then I found out that the program was actually in the informational session part so I could actually start the program at the beginning so I was able to come to an informational session learn about the program and then actually start the program for the from the beginning so I was so grateful for that and I came to the program willing ready to receive whatever God had me to receive because I knew it wasn't me that had that thought but God placed it on my heart so once I got here I was ready you know front-row you know really ready to learn and really wanted to have the change that God had for me so in the program I learned a lot you know things that I knew already like the eight laws of health but the program really taught me how to implement the eight laws of health in my life you know how to make it practical and why it's important you know I was able to really measure you know when I add chia seeds to my diet when I go on walks so I was an athlete and I got injured so I wasn't able to do the rigorous exercise that I used to used to do and I've been struggling with that for years but like through the program right I realized I could walk you know and walking does a lot as we just learned so I was really intentional about tensional about my walking as a sync to classical music while walking and all these small changes really led to a great impact and really a lot of changes in my life and so I started to see that I started to measure it each week when I came to our session I was able to have our accountability group to really talk about the progress that it's been making in my life so the program challenged me as well my facilitator Wilma during one of our sessions she challenged me to you know first write down all the bad habits in my life and then surrender them you know stop doing them and when she told me that I wasn't ready I said you know what I'll think about it I'm not ready to sign my book where I'm like doing that well I will let them go but from this from that point on till this day there are several of those habits that I haven't picked up since by God's grace so I'm so grateful for that and in 23 days actually I'll be getting married and so grateful for that as well and I'm most importantly just I can't give God enough praise and thanks for being able to enter my union with tools and a lifestyle that I know that I can become the best and be the best person I can be you know be the best me that I can be through a lifestyle that I've you know gained through the program so I praise God for that and I courage anybody who's in a position that I was in where you're having these blessings or you see these blessings but you're not able to really enjoy them or not where you should be and happy I encourage you to just take those requests to God and to give that to God and know that God has a plan for you or if you're experiencing the silence of God know that he he also has a plan for you and just be diligent with what he sets before you because we serve a God who's an expert in situations that we don't have a solution for in our ourselves so I leave you that with that and I ask that God be with each of you thank you alright for my wife and I it was more of an adventure we wanted to see what this program offers and I can testify that we were blessed and I'm gonna keep it very short simple things simple steps loads of information and also reminders of as was mentioned eight laws of hell but I would like to summarize it with something that sister white says our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world as the unvaried servant of man's necessity he took our infirmities and bare our sickness that he might minister to every need of humanity Matthew 8 17 the burden of disease and wretchedness and sin he came to remove it was his mission to bring two men complete restoration he came to give them health and peace and perfection of character so this is what you will definitely find in this program so I would like to encourage even if you're not facing depression or anxiety this program is so good and you will definitely be blessed thank you so our next program starts September 15th our informational session will be live with dr. Nedley this Sunday at 12 p.m. and also on next Sunday September 8th as well if you'd like more information today please see me and the Deacons will also be passing out cars with this information god bless you happy Sabbath to each and every one of you how many of you are happy to be in the presence of the Lord to worship a great god of the universe well praise God I want to welcome the remnant is da church family a warm welcome is extended to all our visitors our friends and members and we are glad that you have chosen to worship with us and a special welcome to all of our members that are worshiping with us online and in whichever country or continent that you are joining us we pray that you will receive a blessing today as you've always contacted us in the past and told us how you were blessed we want to welcome you today this afternoon right after our fellowship lunch we're going to have two seminars the first one will begin at 3 p.m. right here in the sanctuary and the next one will be at 5:00 so please make a note there will be two seminars at 3:00 and at 5:00 and for those friends and family that you need to contact and they are not able to be here you can tell them to tune in to remnant SDA church and they can watch us online on Facebook or on YouTube okay there will be an International Food Fair this Sunday September 1st from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the proceeds from this Fair will go towards the building fund or rather for the for the paying of the building and kindly pass this word around and bring friends and come along for this fair tomorrow September 19 and 22 the 22nd will be the health and temperance weekend and our guest speaker is going to be dr. mark Sandoval he is the president and medical director of Yuchi Pines in Alabama please keep this date in mind September 19th that's a Thursday the first meeting will be on Thursday evening Friday Saturday and so please keep this in and and also on Sunday I'm sorry for amen free clinic to be held on September 29 we need volunteers both among the health professionals and non health professionals and for more information please contact dr. thank you for who you are thank you for allowing us to be in your sanctuary here today Heavenly Father I ask that you will please come down to us dear father because we are in need of a savior father if you look around us there are so much turmoil and heartache there's so many things that we just is just so impossible for us to talk about their father but we know that what we see here is just a symbol of your soon coming dear father we thank you for again for being in the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary atoning for our sins dear father we are not worthy but we thank you so much for your love in your grace how many father I ask that you please bless us bless each and every one of us here today we don't know what we are going through a lot of people are going through different things but we know that you are a God of mercy and your God of love and also you're a God of justice father we ask that you please forgive us our sins and cleanse us of ourselves that you may get your righteousness within us and that those whom we come across father that they will see Jesus to us help us not to keep this wonderful message to ourselves dear father because there is a world that is in need of you and help us that will do our part dear father this is not our work but this is your work so we should always be privileged and thank you that you have loud us to work on your behalf thank you so much Heavenly Father we ask that you please bless doctor Nataly today as he's presenting the wonderful words of life as father that you will touch him that the words that he is speak that you will touch his tongue and that the congregation will be a receptive of your word thank you again father for who you are thank you for your blessings and what you about to do father but help us that we will live every day as though it does last on this earth help us not to glorify self but to always give you the praise wherever we are at job or or wherever we may be help us never to be ashamed of the gospel of Christ so father we ask that you please bless our children in a mighty special way there are many places they could have went to today and desecrate the Sabbath but we thank you that our children I hear father we should not ever take that lightly because our children are very precious in your sight so help us to be example for your children Heavenly Father thank you again and please keep us in your love and most wonderful care and father we are looking for your soon-coming we ask father that you will give us courage in these last days because father time is so short and we don't have much time but we need to continue to glorify and continue to read your holy word and we thank you for the gift that you've given this church in the last days the writings of Ellen White dear father so we just want to say thank you for that father please help that this worship service will be dedicated to you and help us father not to glorify ourselves but your name will be uplifted for we ask this and many unmentioned mercies in Jesus name Amen [Music] the pen of inspiration reminds us in the book councils on stewardship we have sustained every moment by God's care and upheld by his power he spreads our tables with food he gives us peace and refreshing sleep weekly he brings to us the Sabbath that we may arrest from our temporal Labor's and worship Him in our own house he has given us his word to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path in its sacred pages we find the counsels of wisdom and as oft as we lift our hearts to him in penitence and faith he grants us the blessings of His grace above all else is the infinite gift of God's dear son through whom flow all blessings for this life and for the life to come not only should be should we faithfully render to God our tithes which he claims as his own but we should bring a tribute to his Treasury as an offering of gratitude lettuce with joyful hearts bring to our Creator the first fruits of his bounties are choices possessions our best and holiest services so let us give faithfully liberally and cheerfully for God says that he loves a cheerful Giver now I call upon the Deacons to wait upon us and as they are waiting upon us the offer the special music will be brought to us by sahjhan akka as we get ready for this special music may have a request to make if you can all squeeze in and come right in the middle of the eyes and leave that space at the end so people are walking in and find some place to sit down please if we find any space in between if you have your Bibles or jackets please pick it up and please make way for others to come in and we truly appreciate it and we also there's some most players in the balcony please do so thank you so much happy Sabbath brothers and sisters the song we're gonna sing is a really special song to me I heard it a few years ago and it's been very close to me I used to tell that to Anjali you know we need to get ready for this song we're gonna sing it sometime this was a few years ago last week I had the opportunity when they requested me to sing this song I asked her she was quick to learn her part and here we are so I want to thank the musicians and the composer and the one who gave me the track as well and as we sing I hope and pray that it'll be a blessing to you there are a lot of pictures in this song so I hope you imagine and praise God as we sing [Music] oh that I could talk in the language of King I could tell a little of the chlorine [Music] offer better world [Music] oh that I could talk in the language of King I tell a little of the glory [Music] of a better world [Music] where there is no light and the land [Music] the love where no teardrops fall Oh heaven it's not like here at all [Music] oh that I could talk in the language of cane [Music] little of the glory [Music] of a better world [Music] the wonderful things the Lord showed me at heaven I cannot describe I saw their tables of stone in which the names of the multitudes of the routines were engraved in letters of gold after we beheld the glory of the temple we went out and Jesus left us and went into the city soon we heard is lovely voice again saying come my people you have come out of Great Tribulation and done my will suffered for me coming to supper for I myself we shouted hallelujah glory and entered into the scene I saw it your silver there was many miles in length and yet our eyes could extend over it I saw the fruits of the tree of life the manna almonds figs pomegranates grapes and many other kinds of foods though jesus said you must go back to earth again and relate to others what I have revealed to you then you angel wore me gently down to this dark sometimes I think I can stay here no longer all things apart seafood rear I feel lonely here where I have seen a better land a wings like time so that our high good I'd sail across the river Jordan to a better plane where their sweet we and the lane water flow I long to reach your show [Music] I could talk in the language of King I tell a little of the glory of a better world [Music] I tell a little of the glory of a better world of a better world of a better world [Music] thank you for blessing us with all the blessings that you can shower us with we have brought our offerings and our tights to you with gratitude and now our Father in Heaven we ask that you bless this offering and may be used for your name's honor and glory is my prayer in your precious name Amen the children's story will be brought to us by Jacob Wade and children please go around and look and you and don't forget to tell us where you're joining us from today's message lesson from the Bible and emotional times is brought to us by Pastor Neil Nedley you pray that we are a blessing to you [Music] [Music] you [Music] you [Music] good morning children how are you doing this morning would you like to hear a story well I want to tell you story about a little girl I wish I knew her name what in heaven we'll know her name but she's a very special girl this girl lived a long time ago and when she was still small her parents love God so much they taught her so well they taught her about God they taught her to love God and how to serve and they taught her how to clean and keep her house nice and keep the house clean do you ever clean your new house yes you clean up your toys you put them away oh that's good well she did all those things and she was very faithful she was a good little girl but one day some very sad thing happened some people came some soldiers and there was a fight with her people and they stole her away can you imagine if you were taken away from your home no mother no father and she was taken to a strange place the language was different that people were different the food was different and no mother no father she must have been sad she must have been crying but you know what she did when she got there she did what she did when she was home she cleaned up and she polished and she made things nice and she was taken to a house of a very important man this man was the main soldier for the whole army he was very important and she was there and she helped his wife and she cleaned and she helped a cook and whatever she needed she was doing very faithful and she was smiling even though bad things happened to her and they began to love this girl so much she was obedient even though they were the ones that took her away from her parents she was still a good girl and she obeyed them and she listened to what they said but one day that man was very sick and she start to come close to him and she felt so bad and she said oh oh if he would go to my land and see the profit I'm sure he would be healed she was taught about the Prophet and she knew that Mayer was a man of God and would be able to heal her master so somebody heard and told the captain of the host and said this little girl this servant she said something about going to that land and there was a prophet who can heal you well he was so excited he went at once and he went there and he went to see the Prophet and he got a message to go in and go into this river and bathe yourself seven times and after seven times you'll be clean well he didn't want to go at first he was a good man he was honorable but he also had some pride in his heart and he said why should I go to this place so much nice place in my in my home but he had a wise servant also said listen master just go and do what is it going to hurt you so because of the faithful witness of that little girl he had gone there so why not do the rest so he went and he went down in the water and he came up then he looked upon himself and he was just as bad as he was before so he went down in the water again and he came up and he looked same thing he went down the third time and he came up and he looked nothing had changed he began to wonder now he went down the fourth time now he'd been down more than half the times he must be at least half clean but he looked upon himself all the same and he went the fifth time and he started to get desperate in his heart and he wasn't feeling so proud anymore in his heart he was pleasing pleading oh please he came up the fifth time and looked nothing he went down the sixth time there has to be at least something to show and he came up the sixth time and he looked upon himself all the same now his pride was gone now only thing in his heart was please lord please do something this god of these people please do something and he went down the seventh time and he came up and he looked upon himself and you know what he saw Oh beautiful clean skin there was not any bit of disease upon him he was so happy he was praising the Lord and he went and he prayed to God and he said Lord I'm going to serve this God now for the rest of my life and for the rest of his life he went and served that God Wow God didn't do many miracles but he did miracle for this man all because of why that little girl who when her parents told her come child I want you to clean up she didn't say no no no I don't want to clean she went okay mommy and she cleaned and she did what her parents told her and because she was faithful and good later on in her life what a wonderful witness have you all heard the story of the naman and when the Prophet and when he went down the one you would never know that story if that girl had that been faithful so I want to tell you you may think it's a little thing to do to clean but it's a very big thing to do by being faithful being obedient and doing what is before you God is training you for something very important in life that you can be ready for his kingdom how many want to be in his kingdom yes okay anyone who would like to pray okay let's close your eyes and pray dear father in heaven Lord we thank you so much for the story of the little Meade though we don't know her name Lord we know her train them for your kingdom above for this we ask and pray in Jesus name aim okay you may go to your seats [Music] [Music] as I look back on this road I've traveled I see so many times he carried me listening here and hear acept your heart and it is always true God loves our scripture reading this afternoon is taken from 3rd John verse to 3rd John verse to the Word of God reads beloved I wish above all things that thou may'st prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth amen [Music] I see a number of people sitting outside and it's easy to be more engaged when you're inside than outside so I'm going to ask if anyone has an empty seat by them raise their hand I'm going to ask the people that are sitting outside to stand up and look at where the empty hands are and see if you guys can come in and be engaged some of you might want to be outside and that way you can leave early if you need to but you can see there are some hands up and there are some people coming forward and so keep your hands up for those that are able to come forward and be part of the inside of the remnant church and not outside okay there's some hands all set up in the front very good I think that may do it the rest would just I think preferred to be outside well it is a special blessing to be here today and I was have you already been blessed you know last night Richard was taking me to the hotel and you know I've got I haven't got to know everyone here very well but was that Richards daughter that was up here okay so I did meet her last night and I thought it might might be Richards daughter but Richard was telling me about his daughter's desire to enroll at Weimar Institute at the college and he had heard I think she has also heard that spaces are limited there we have run out of space at Weimar Institute all of the dorm rooms are filled and we've had to turn a number of people down just because we don't have space for our students there and it's not like they can live off campus because the price of living off-campus it's the highest priced place to live in America right now you think New York is high or San Francisco is high but right outside Weimar Institute it's also very high because it's one of the most desirable places to live in America as well and so it's not like they could afford to have off-campus housing and so we are in a dilemma and pray for us as we try to expand it it does require at Weimar we do a lot of our own building and so in the local area it's 300 dollars a square foot for a new construction we can do it for a hundred and fifty dollars a square foot but a hundred and fifty dollars a square foot will put more dorm rooms in space in place so that we can accept more students who would like to have their education there I heard that his daughter is wanting to do medicine pre-med and it's a great place to go for that but he was asking what would she have to do to be sure of a spot and I wasn't really thinking that she would actually do something today that actually pretty much assured her of a spot you know one of the one of the things that you know we sometimes get wonder why so many people are attracted to like Hollywood in those places and so little people are attracted to places like Church and I think it was one Hollywood person who said the reason why is we're talking about things that are wholly imaginary as if they're true but when you go to church true things are spoken as if they're entirely imaginary but today we heard true things that were spoken as if they were true with fashion and so if you don't get into Weimar Institute next year remember this email president at Weimar dot e-d-u and appeal to the enrollment committee and I will make sure that we take your name there forward to the front well it is good to be here and today we're going to be talking about some things that frankly the world in the church are not talking about but yet they have a vital role to play in regards to our future destinies in this world as well as in the world to come and so we're going to be talking about biblical case reports and of course there's many that we could have taken forward today we're not going to will be able to share some more of these this afternoon by this by the way this afternoon the topic is going to be relationships and in my field of mental health I can tell you that a lot of mental health and emotional issues come about as a result of relationships poor relationships and relationships that have gone awry and we're going to be particularly talking about attachments did you know our brain is actually wired in ways that help us with attachments we'll be talking about the rewiring of even this new couple that just got married a month ago because there's some rewiring going on in their brains right now to help them attach better if they're following the Lord's will in regards to this and so it happens with romance but it happens with other relationships but also I can assure you that the devil is trying hard to get you to attach to the things that are going to ruin your soul and ruin your life and there's a lot of those attachments going around as well so we're going to be talking about relationships and attachments at 3 o'clock and 5 o'clock and then tomorrow morning we're going to be talking about the brain chemistry what do we do with people genetically who are having issues with their brain chemistry or with lifestyle things can this be corrected can we turn off the bad genes and you'll find out that we can we can have every bad gene known to mankind that can cause mental illness but those genes can become inactive and you will learn about how that can be done and how we can enhance our lives through other nutrition and lifestyle way so hopefully you'll be able to take advantage of the time that I am here well maybe I should go off to the side here speaking of getting attached our first story today is in regards to lot lot got connected to Sodom I don't know if you know the story but lot was taught his business by who by Abraham was Abraham a good businessman oh yeah he was he was an excellent businessman in fact that God said the reason why he would be the father of a great nation is because he would rule his household after him and so he had loving Authority even among all of his employees and he had over a thousand employees and lot was one of those employees but lot was learning the trade in the business and lot decided I want to go out on my own I don't want to be part of your business Abraham I realize I can probably do better now that I've learned the trade so well out on my own and so Abraham being a kind man said sure I'm not going to restrict your freedom go ahead and do it and so lot began to be successful in his own business but because the territory was very similar there were some battles that started between the employees of LOD and Abraham wait a minute isn't this the place for our sheep and we were here first and then these little arguments among the staff started to come up to Abraham and lot and Abraham unit said you know what we shouldn't you were were brothers we're all part of the of the faith of God we shouldn't be having these type of struggles among our employees you choose the land that you want your sheep to be in and Locke was excited you're letting me have the choice what should he have done by the way he should have said not me Abraham you're the one that taught me this business you be the one to choose but instead lot was excited about the prospects I get the first choice and he chose the area that was most fertile and in this most fertile area there were some cities one in particular that is still known to this day where all of the Commerce was done in this fertile land called Sodom it was a wealthy it was a fun-loving City it was close to the beautiful sea surrounded by fertile green and lush mountains it was really the Rio de Janeiro of the day you might call it and his family began to enjoy the benefits of city life are there some benefits of city life oh yeah there's always people to meet there's always places to go there's always things to do there's always excitement around so pretty soon he actually moves into Sodom itself this is where we're doing our selling and this is where all the excitement is why travel all these distances to go and sell let's just move into the city plus it's a beautiful city the way it's laid out and you know we can even build our own place here and have it just the way we want and so lot moved his entire family into this city now of course he thought I'll still teach them the Word of God I will still teach them the godly way I will still teach them how to have faith in God and I will even show by example how to be compassionate to others and Lotte was actually trained by his former boss to look out for the disadvantaged he was trained by his former boss to even look out for strangers and it was part of Lots ministry every day to go to the city gate and look for strangers who might not know the problems of Sodom Sodom was wealthy and fun-loving but it had some problems it had violence it had coercion in regards to sexual acts and it was a city that was fearful to go in without knowing anybody in that city Genesis records the story it was evening when two angels came to Sodom lot was sitting its Sodom city gate and seeing them he did not know they were angels lot rose up to meet them and bowed to the ground so he was the first to meet him he knew that they were strangers he knew they weren't part of this city but he wanted to protect them because evening was falling and he said My Lord turn aside I beg of you into your servants house and spend the night bathe your feet then you can arise early and go on your way but they said no don't bother it's very kind of you to offer but we'll just spend the night right here in the square now lot realized what this what would happen and of course this is a square where he's talking and there are other people around there's other people noticing this first lot was just saying it silently but when these two were just insistent that they were going to stay there he became more animated and he entreated them and urged them how does the scripture say greatly until they yield it with him enter his house and he made them a dinner baked and they ate and so he was taking care of the strangers now when he became animated and was urging them and warning them about the city the other people that were there noticed these men very clearly in these men although being in the form of men they were beautiful specimens Genesis 19 verse 4 says and before they lay down the men of the city of Sodom both what young and old all the men from every quarter surrounded the house they are wanting these men and there's some things that are very disconcerting about what the record says they called a lot and said where the man who came to you tonight bring them out to us that we may be intimate with them and so we see something that is described what they were asking to do the term that is utilized and you can look it up and includes more than one act but the term that is utilized is actually named after the city they were wanting to sodomize these men lot went out to the door of the man and shut the door after him to protect those strangers from what they were wanting to do and he said something to them in verse 7 he said please my what my brethren he gives them a term that is an endearing family term we're all part of this family of Sodom and Sodom please please don't do this they wouldn't hear of it and then he says don't do so what wickedly then some are confused about this verse he offers his virgin daughters instead now let me explain a little bit of this situation by the way we talked a little bit about this last night but are there people that have same-sex attractions yes there's been a lot of studies done on it yesterday we talked about the new study that showed you're not born that way it's not genetics it's very clear there's no gene associated with it it's not something you're born with but there are environmental issues that can lead you into same-sex attractions some of those environmental issues are at an all-time high today because studies show that if you're a man and you don't have a good loving authoritative father that you can develop a relationship with you're much more likely to develop same-sex attractions and if you're a woman and you don't have a loving authoritative mother and there's issues with you and your mom as a woman you're more likely to develop same-sex attractions now in the studies of people that have same-sex attractions it's also very clear as well that the vast majority of them this is on their own questionnaires well over 95 percent and some would say if they're brutally honest it would be a hundred percent everyone with same-sex attractions have also had opposite sex attractions but the majority of those with opposite sex attractions have never had same-sex attractions so lot realizing that many of these individuals could have opposite sex attractions is trying to delay things because they're ready to bust this door down they're ready to destroy his house and they're wanting them to he's wanting him to at least put him on pause and consider this I personally don't think he was planning on having them having his daughters be part of that but when you're in a mad rush and all of this is happening in mob mentality he was trying to say something that would give him pause and he thought this is something that would give him pause because this might be something even more desirable and so in his attempt to give him pause they said no way are we taking that offer stand back they said this fellow came in to live here temporarily and now he presumes to be our what why was he called their judge because he said what you're about ready to do is wrong brothers don't do it it's wrong now we will deal worse with you than with them they had they said that lot had committed a crime by judging them that was worthy of the worse death so they rushed at and pressed violently against lot came close to breaking down the door and here's what we're told had it not been for divine intervention the people of Sodom would have made lotsa fur the cruelest of deaths tearing him limb from limb for simply trying to protect the innocent and telling them that what they were doing was wrong he was doing this to protect innocent people and the last morality of a depraved society is tolerance for their immorality because in their mind he had committed the most immoral thing by being intolerant of what they wanted to do you see some parallels and the society that we're living today and so the ones who are stating don't do this it's against you are actually called the immoral ones because of their intolerance but actually they're trying to protect individuals from the effects of this behavior and also trying to protect the innocent was sodomy spreading back then it was spreading rapidly by the way speaking of hate speech who was engaging in hate speech in Genesis 19 was it lot that was doing the hate speech no it wasn't a lot it was the others and the cause of the hate speech was just telling them that what they were doing was wrong we are living in a society today that is far more religious Obachan christian phobic than it is homophobic because christians and those of the word of god actually believe the Word of God and believe that the word is cautioning us to not go a direction that's going to end up hurting us but yet because of those cautions you won't hear those words in the media they'll talk about all the other phobias and the misogynist and all of this kind of stuff but they won't talk about the number one phobia that's now in America which is religious obeah Christian phobia and Bible phobia but the Bible is there to protect us the Bible is there to give us advice that is best for us by the way the health effects of sodomy you won't hear about it much you can look them up and it's there but there are adverse health effects of sodomy there's a reason why God did not want this studies show that if you engage in sodomizing acts your ability to experience pleasure is going to go way down your dopamine receptors are going to go way down your anxiety levels are going to go way up you'll having a decrease in ability to tolerate frustrations did you notice that about the mob they were not able to tolerate this frustrating lot that was trying to give them caution willpower erodes theirs frontal lobe compromise that's going to occur is a direct effect of sodomy there's a decrease in the ability to empathize with others and that's why even the innocent that are that are capitalized on by those in sodomy think that somehow they're actually helping out those innocent people to expose them to a lifestyle that might actually help them experience more pleasure decreases their ability to manage their emotions their relationships tend to erode quickly they might form very hot relationships but those relationships erode very quickly there's a significant increased risk and a number of physical diseases and I can tell you as a physician that still works in hospitals today in emergency rooms and is spent over 28 years working in hospital settings I've seen scores of individuals go to their early death is a direct result of the effects of sodomy on their physical health if you want to learn more about that you can see the reference there it'll have a lot more there but this was a bold new scientific book that's out there called the health hazards of homosexuality and it goes into a lot of those studies in details that are not politically correct to have on the evening news when the study comes out and by the way sodomy can be more than just homosexual relationships there are laws you know many states actually have laws against sodomy they're not enforced but those laws that were there were to protect primarily the women in the marriage from the husband going for sodomy they were there to protect women but now with those laws being eroded those protections have gone away for both men and women by the way one of the concerns is that sodomy and homosexuality is rising dramatically today I won't go into all of this data but it shows that just a generation ago in 1973 11% of Americans believe that same-sex activity was not wrong at all but by 2014 what it wasn't in America 49 percent that's before the Supreme Court decided same-sex marriage was just as sacred as opposite sex marriage and what do you think it is today it's much higher it is the vast majority of humanity that doesn't realize the effects of where this is going to lead and of course one of those effects as you get involved in it is the recruitment and predatory behavior of those that are practicing sodomy sexual molestation and abuse is at an all-time high in our country despite the fact that were quotes more educated and more tolerant that hasn't prevented problems it's actually put fuel on it one in four girls now is molested before they reach adulthood many of them in their own homes and it used to be far more common in girls than it is in boys but with a change in sexual behavior it's now just as likely that you're going to be abused as a young boy growing up and as a young girl sexually and once abuse occurs there's a much higher incidence of these kids participating an unethical sexual acts throughout their life question one of the questions we need to answer today is should we protect the innocent like lot was trying to do or just let it go because we will be hated for being a judge sin would be terrible enough if it just affected the sinner but what makes it far worse is that it virtually always adversely affects the innocent and we need to understand that Jesus came to help sinners even though he knew that he would be killed by the very ones he came to save it's okay to call them brothers and sisters it's okay to educate them when they are willing to be educated and then point them to the savior of the world who can bring about forgiveness and self-control by the way these adverse brain changes they don't start your brain can actually change for the better but it takes 90 days complete abstinence from not only sodomizing acts but anything that leads to with pornography orgasm masturbation any of those things it'll take a 90 day read before those dopamine receptors start coming back before the frontal lobe starts to improve and so those brains of every one of these individuals can also change for the better but they need to know that it's possible for them to change Isaiah 5:20 says woe unto them that call evil good and good evil and there is tremendous woes that are coming on this country as a result of us doing just that well the angels were there for a purpose what were they there for they were there to protect lot and his family and get them out of the city because they needed to destroy the city why the urgency on the part of the angels if you remember that morning they were trying to get him out of there before daybreak get out of there first of all lot was told to tell all of your family to get out and so a lot of his family members had already married they already had homes of their own these were the older children and he came there and begged them angels have come this place is going to be destroyed get out get out with me in the morning and they said we're not leaving this place isn't going away what are you talking about the weather forecast is great and you think God is actually gonna intervene and destroy this city no way we're having a great time here we're not leaving and that made it tough because their own kids grandkids were not willing to get out they had two that we're still young enough to be at home but the angels are urgent because lot in his wife are delaying their they've got mixed emotions about leaving this place that they've put a lot of time and effort and made it beautiful but the urgency on the part of the Angels is that sexual immorality is like a cancer and that's a cancer that can destroy the earth and they realized that cancer was here it was spreading major and if the world was going to last for thousands of years the cancer had to be eradicated and that means people couldn't escape before daybreak would have been the best before the first person left that city to go somewhere and maybe be spared from it but it was already going late and if you don't eradicate or transform it it will rise up again and a lot more innocent people will be hurt that's the problem with cancer it hurts the innocent cells and so lot ends up escaping with his two daughters and his wife but his wife's emotions were even more mixed if she knew her kids were back there that beautiful home she wanted to just stand there and take one last longing look and she was turned into that pillar of salt because of being brought up in Sodom and interestingly those two daughters later on those two daughters were contaminated by Sodom by the way they were in a godly home they were being instructed by a godly father but the outside world had contaminated them because the outside world was still very close and by the way this is one of my concerns with all of the devices that are in homes of godly parents because you can even participate in acts just like we're done in Sodom with a device introducing you to all of that even though you might not be living in a city like Sodom and in some country location God wants us to get connect with nature he wants us to be out there in the 360 and not just focused in on this narrow thing that's filled with vile possibilities but late lot escape with his two daughters but interestingly those two daughters that were brought up and Sodom made their dad drunk and committed incest with him he was so drunk he was not even aware of it and the two sons born became bitter enemies against God's people and actually caused Israel later to fall due to their sexual immorality later these were the Moabites as you know the ones who contaminated Israel in major ways but what were the real issues behind Sodom Ezekiel tells us behold this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom pride the first iniquity that brought about these adverse violence and destroying innocent people was actually pride fullness of bread it was a city that was wealthy there was a city that nobody was poor per se there were poorer people than others but everyone had fullness of bread and an abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters this is a combination that's lethal when you've got pride and when you've got food stamps and a welfare system that says no no one is going to starve in our nation and then you put idleness on top of it we're going to start producing more Sodom's and of course it might not just be the welfare people that don't have to work that get their fullness of bread it can be those that are wealthy and are middle class and all of this because that we probably are living in a time in Earth's history where there are less people worried about where they're going to get their next meal from than ever before in world history and so nobody's really to can learned about this but when you combine it with an abundance of idleness and notice this last one this last one is very important neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy how do you strengthen their hand by showing compassion by doing medical missionary work by educating them we're told how wide the contrast the life of Abraham was to that of lot once they have been companions worshiping at one altar dwelling side by side in their pilgrim tents but how widely separated now lauded chosen Sodom for its pleasure and profit leaving Abraham's altar and its daily sacrifice to the Living God he had permitted his children to mingle with a corrupt and idolatrous people yet he had restrained retained in his heart the fear of God for he is declared in Scripture to have been a what a just man his righteous soul was vexed with the vile conversation that greeted his ears daily in the violence and crime that he was powerless to prevent he was saved at last as the brand plucked out of the fire yet stripped of his possessions bereaved of his wife and children dwelling in caves like wild beasts covered with infamy and his old age he gave to the world not a race of righteous men but to idolatrous nations at enmity with God and warring upon his people until their cup of iniquity being full they were appointed to destruction themselves how terrible were the results that followed that what one unwise step but you can see how it was kind of natural to make this unwise step business profits pleasure I know some of you have to this country because of the more easy access to business profits and pleasure and some of you have made decisions for your family just on the basis of if I work here I can make more money we fool ourselves that we're gonna make more money and put it into the Lord's work but we don't look at the ramifications the other ramifications of what is going to be the impact on my family what is going to be the impact says the wise man labor what not to be rich cease from thine own wisdom when law entered Sodom he fully intended to keep himself free from iniquity and to command his household after him but he signally failed the corrupting influences about him had an effect upon his own faith and his children's connection with the inhabitants of Sodom bound up his interests in a measure with theirs so it even threatened his own eternal destiny notice this phrase many are still making a similar mistake in selecting a home they look more to the temporal advantage they may gain than to the moral and social influences that will surround themselves in their families those who secure for their children worldly wealth and honor at the expense of their what eternal interest will find in the end that these advantages are a terrible loss and they're actually going to even lot lose all the financial advantages that lot lost as well but then we have this fearful words from Christ himself as bad as Sodom was it's not the worst he said verily I say unto you it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for that City what city was he talking about it was going to be worse in the judgement it was the city of Capernaum where he had been doing medical missionary work then 11 23 thou Capernaum which art exalted unto heaven shall be brought down to hell for if the mighty works which had been done in thee had been done where in Sodom it would have what remained until this day folks I'm telling you to a greater or lesser extent in America we are living in Sodom but I'm also telling you that Sodom does not need to be destroyed why does Sodom not need to be destroyed if we do medical missionary work we can win the sodomites and this is what we see even at Weimar Institute you know Northern California and you know kind of the history that's there but when we go into our communities and we do works of ministry like this church I'm so glad to see that you this church is going to do the Amen clinic September 29 I'm so glad to see that you're putting on a community depression recovery program on September 15 you're interfacing with the community you're reaching the community and Christ said that if those works of healings had been done in Sodom it would have not been destroyed lot was not doing works of healing he was showing compassion to strangers which was good we want to be able to reach the strangers but he didn't know how to reach the people that were in Sodom he didn't know about medical missionary work I saying to you that it should be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the Day of Judgment than for thee what is he saying here the Redeemer of the world declares that there are greater sins than that for which Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed those who hear the gospel invitation calling sinners to repentance and what he did not are more guilty before God than were the dwellers in the Vale of Siddim why are they more guilty because most of the dwellers in the Vale of Siddim they don't know any better they've been taught by the intellectuals who are just giving them one side of the intelligence and totally ignoring the other side that are presenting their mental filters on them they have been educated by Hollywood they have been educated by worldly secular people who don't know the Word of God and they're just doing what they were taught to do and they're even taught to be proud about it and come out and let the world know all of this stuff that you're doing they don't know any better but you people here today do know better I know better and the question is are we willing to give up our secret vices are we good people most of the time but we have this little vice that we want to be able to hold on to thinking that we can get the best of both worlds I can tell you that vice is putting you far further behind than you would ever imagine because without it you could be an apostle paul you could be an apostle john you could be a daniel you could be a joseph you could make a tremendous far greater difference in your community still greater sin is theirs who profess to know God and keep his Commandments yet who deny Christ in their character in their daily life don't deny Christ even in secret sins be determined today to put your all on the altar of sacrifice open your heart to God's love in your life and let that love flow in compassion to others around you I will go through the next meeting is until is until three so we have a few minutes by the way our your pastor said our speaker this morning I looked at the clock and it was this afternoon as he was saying it but nonetheless I've got two more stories that I'd like to tell and this one was about a great person greater than a lot David was a great leader he was popular he had followed the will of the Lord in his life he was kind he was winsome he was wise and he was also very courageous oh that we could have leaders like David today in our countries in our States in our churches he was free and his emotional expressions in seeking and praising God the Psalms are filled with that such passion in the precious love that he had developed with the Lord but with his great success he began to experience more what more idleness you know it says it was the time when his men went out to war and David was not with them you know he was the general he was the one who normally went with them but they also were trying to protect him saying you know there is a chance in war you could lose your life David you stay here in the palace you just roll and we'll go out there and do this and he liked that idea and so while his men were out there with blood sweat and tears on the front lines he was back home and he didn't have as much to do and he began to look around by the way no matter how successful you've been even in the Lord's work you still on this side of the kingdom have a fallen nature and that fallen nature is going to tempt you at times it was the spirit of self confidence in self exaltation remember that the sodom thing what was the first thing pride self confidence and self exaltation that prepared the way for David's fall flattery and the subtle allurement of power and luxury were not without effect upon him by the way this is why we even need to be careful we need to be kind and compassionate to others but we need to be careful not to give them flattery flattery is not only being excessive in our praise but is actually there we flatter others often for self-centered reasons ourselves and so flattery is often an expression of our own selfish heart and we see that we could maybe get ahead by flattery and you can see how people would easily do that to David and they were not without effect upon him intercourse with surrounding nations also exalted an influence for evil so by surrounding with the other nations he recognized what the patterns were of the other nations and what they were able to do and what their monarchs did on a regular basis and so he saw Bathsheba the Lord gave him some pause because first he asked who is that woman what did the answer come back the wife of uriah one of his people on the front lines but he kept asking questions then he asked to meet her and then it all transpired and then you know interestingly you know she was fitting to the forum she would have not done that with David had it been within seven days of ending her menstrual cycle but she let him know I'm through with that so it's okay now and then it transpired you know sometimes we can major in minors and minor in majors and yes I'm not blaming Bathsheba the primary one that was at fault was David let's make that abundantly clear but I think if Bathsheba with a fought tooth and nail the different the outcome would have been far different but nonetheless after the pregnancy David realized he was in trouble because your ayah hadn't been around and so he said let's bring Uriah back because it's early enough in the course they'll think this occurred when Uriah was back and so Uriah coming back to live with his beautiful woman he began to think of his other comrades as other soldiers on the front lines and he thought they don't have this privilege for their benefit I'm not going to do marital relations with my wife because I'm going back in the field and to be in solidarity with them I'm not going to do this David realized he was in trouble with that type of commitment and so he thought we've got to suppress the frontal lobe and so alcohol was given because he thought he would forget about that purpose but even with alcohol on board Uriah was so committed that he still didn't go in and now there was trouble in order to protect himself Bathsheba others we know what he wrote to Joab and Joab fulfilled the mission and Uriah was killed by the enemy it looked like David had gotten by with this you know Bathsheba's now his wife child was about ready to be born and then Nathan comes to him and says after telling him parable you're the man you're the one that is taken for full you're the one that has done all of these crimes and when his sin was pointed out by Nathan he had a choice he had a choice to go into denial and saying you don't realize I had full right I am the king I can do whatever I want to by the way this is one of my concerns with our society today yesterday I mentioned the mental health issues that social justice causes but there is an equality that all of us are equal and that is we are all equal under the law God is no respecter of persons no matter how great a person is they are still subject to the law of God now the social justice crowd tries to say in order to achieve our desired social outcomes we must apply to law to some but not to others that's a setup for disaster and our country is in shambles in one in one way politically because some are saying aren't we a nation of laws shouldn't the laws apply to everybody and others are saying but if we apply them to everybody we're not going to get the social outcomes of social equality that we're wanting but anyways at that time Kings were not necessarily under the same law and so David could have easily gone into denial or he could have gone into defensiveness but instead when this was pointed out he took full responsibility and chose the path of redemption by the way was David a lost man before his repentance absolutely he was David as great an individual as he was and how close he had been to God you know we need to recognize how terrible sin is and sin that was unconfessed and unrepented of would have taken him eternally away from the kingdom he would have been eternally lost but instead when he began to see it more clearly he chose the path of redemption and fortunately he pled for forgiveness and admitted his complete mess up and God said you are the judge you told that this man was going to have to pay for fold and David had to pay for fold he lost his son and he lost three other sons as a result Psalm 51 create in me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me David not only prayed that prayer of repentance he meant it and he said Behold our desires truth in the inward parts by the way what let him do the sin was distorted ways of thinking he forgot the beauty was only skin-deep he forgot about you know he had a mental filter he had emotional reasoning we couldn't label those cognitive distortions and instead of turning his eyes away and reminding himself of what's true he pressed on and that's why he mentions this in his psalm if I would have just thought truthful thoughts you desire truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom he said but the effects were far-reaching notice this after his transgression of the law of God even after his true heartfelt confession David seemed morally what paralyzed he was weak and irresolute when before his sin he had been courageous and decided see if you can go forward for me back there I think his influence with the people had been weakened and all this favored the designs of his what unnatural son which one is she talking about Absalom that was one of the four that lost his life and Absalom decided to be the great personality who would win the hearts of the people and pretty soon there was this coup attempt by the way speaking of adultery we're told in this great book sexual testimonies on sexual behavior the sin of adultery is not a sin of what ignorance it's a knowing sinner will receive the awful visitation of God whether he who commits it be old or young sometimes we fool ourselves that adultery is something that you just fall into know if adultery is presented to you and you're not premeditating about it you run and you go the other direction I saw it was an enormous sin and there have not been as vigilant efforts made as there should have been two sat aside this pleasure of God and remove his frown by taking a strict thorough course with the offender it has an awful corrupting influence on the young they see how lightly the sin of breaking seventh commandment is regarding the one who commits this horrid sin thinks that all he has to do is confess that he was wrong and is sorry and he is then to have all the privileges of the house of God and be held in the embrace or fellowship of the truth of the church but then this statement they had thought it was not so great a sin but have lightly esteemed the breaking of the seventh commandment this has been sufficient to remove the Ark of God from the camp if there were no other sins to cause the ark to be taken away and weakened Israel if we want to know why our churches are weak in here resolute it's because this has not been dealt with but David fully repented and we have evidence that he fully repented you know I've met people who have so-called repented of this sin but there's all sorts of evidence that they haven't fully repented like David there was a couple that came to our depression recovery program residential program the man was there as a companion but it was his wife that was there and she had severe depression even thought she'd be better off dead and severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and you know what we Mar Institute for those that allow it we have students that are there and there was a pre-med students is one of the advantages of weimar is that you get a lot of clinical experience with the clinical programs there in nutrition and lifestyle measures and so there was a student that was with me as I'm interviewing this woman and I get to the end of the interview and I'm looking at the causes of her depression and anxiety and OCD and I said I'm just telling you on this initial interview something is missing I said you have severe OCD you have severe depression you even think you're you would be better off dead and I'm the doctor that's supposed to look at the causes and there's only two-and-a-half categories of causes coming up we need at least four categories and for this type of severity normally it's going to be more than that so I'm just telling you something is missing maybe we'll find it on the blood work maybe we'll find it here maybe we'll find it there but right now I don't have a good handle on why you have this type of severe mental illness she didn't say a word but then her husband spoke up and said I didn't notice any of this mental illness until I had an affair I said when did that occur I started talking to him as he's now explaining this affair and then as it went further it became clear that it wasn't just one affair and then as I began to ask about chronology and began to understand this he wasn't clear on the chronology part of things which he didn't say this but it became very clear in my mind there was more than two Affairs when you started to become unclear and can't keep this all together there's an issue there and he was actually an ordained minister and teaching in one of our academies as the Academy Bible instructor and I said so have you ever well I've I've confessed to her you know I'm sorry I know I shouldn't have done this has it been dealt with by the church well no they don't most of them don't know about it and I said what about the conference he said I'm very good friends with the conference president I could tell them but nothing would change and as that interview got over with I went to the student the student and I had a chance to debrief and I said her depression and anxiety and OCD is not going anywhere unless he comes to the full recognition of what he's done and a full heartfelt repentance and I said I don't know that it's going to happen here but I can tell you this if it doesn't happen here it's unlikely to ever happen in the future because he's going to be confronted with spiritual influences and so we were going through the program day 7 day 8 came about he still wasn't making any movement in that direction it finally day 8 and he came in to our spiritual counselor weeping and he says I realized I'm the problem I realized this was totally and he started realizing all of his own issues here and he said I want to confess he says I'm gonna confess publicly and he said I also want to be washed in the blood of the Lamb and be rebaptised and he actually invited his family members there and on that event he said I don't want anyone to congratulate me that I'm getting rebaptised he says the fact that we've had any marriage at all is because of her and she's the one that's put up with me I've been the problem and I haven't dealt with this and he went through and exposed what had been happening and he went through this true heartfelt repentance the next morning I saw her as a patient and I said how did you sleep last night and she says I've slept for the full night for the first time in 20 years she was now starting to be able to heal and here's the issue when there's things like that in the church the church needs healing you may be inhibiting what is happening and David showed evidence that he fully repented he was humiliated many times afterwards and repeatedly so I don't know if you remember the time when he had to leave his City Jerusalem in order to spare bloodshed and here's Semmy i coming in throwing rocks and saying all sorts of stuff you adulterer you you did this with Bathsheba you deserve everything that's coming your way and Plus this and Plus that he started accusing her of things that he wasn't guilty of like trying to get rid of Saul's house and all of this sort of stuff and his men said let us go over there and take care of him he is so disrespectful and in this time of your trying thing they're accusing you and he says you leave that man alone he said I deserve everything he's saying I deserve it all because I am a sinner and I didn't do everything that he said in regards to Saul's house but I still deserve it and we're told I don't know if I have the quote here but you can look it up we're told that never did the Lord exhibited such precious love poured out to David then at that time of his life Dave God has mercy and tender compassion for those who are willing to repent and instead of saying hey I already repented didn't you read Psalm 51 why are you bringing this up again you know it's not right for you to bring this up this is all over with let's say you know do all of this sort of stuff the sign that he repented was every time it brought up he was bowed down and he says you're exactly right the coup attempt was successful for a while he was recurse repeatedly and in public that he never retaliated never lost his temper and cool and then there was another evidence this one I don't quite understand but this was on David's deathbed and it was clear he was dying from septic shock for those of you there ICU doctors he was teeth chattering chills as the bacteria was going through his lung his is probably a pneumonia pneumococcal pneumonia or something like that that was going through his bloodstream as blood pressure was dropping and they said we need somebody to warm this man up he is cold he needs to warm up and we know David loves women and so let's find the most beautiful specimen that he's not going to be able to say no to because we need to save the life of the king and warm him up and so Bathsheba who had never won a beauty contest this woman did win a beauty contest of the entire nation and was put in there with David to warm him up now some people say well you know he was kind of too sick to do anything about it but I can tell you I've been in ICU taking care of very sick men that are on their deathbed but they're not too sick to pinch when the woman bends over nurse to them next to them and David would not touch her he said no way that's a sign of complete repentance he had totally changed and he didn't want to do anything in regards to his fallen nature that was going against God's will this great temptation was completely resisting and this is why we will see David in the kingdom and we will see any one of you in the kingdom who is willing to fully repent from the sins that you have caused yourself to suffer from your family to suffer from and your church family our last example Joseph Joseph was a setup because of something else remember what I told you if a man if a boy doesn't have a very good relationship with his father and is starving for male fatherly attention how they have a tendency to go to same-sex attractions if a boy doesn't have a loving mother in the home he is starving for female attention and that boy is far more likely to get involved in pornography and adultery and prostitution and Joseph at age 4 his mother was taken from him he was starved for female attention Jacob did not want him to get the female attention that was left behind because these were very dysfunctional women that were very jealous and he decided that he was going to quit his job and come back home and be mr. mom and raised Jacob and it raised Joseph by the way and Jacob was the one raising Joseph as you know and so Joseph with that loving father would have had no environmental influences leading him to same-sex attractions but he had tremendous environmental influences leading him to opposite sex attractions and starving for that woman influence in his life and then at age 17 he suffers the most cruel beating by his brother's PTSD was on display there would be triggers that would bring this whole movie back to him some of you have had traumas in your life where there are certain triggers that come back that was Joseph by the way one of the evidences that he had the PTSD is after he was a free man he never went back to his home even when he was under Potiphar he was a free man he was a steward of his whole household and some people say why didn't he go back to see Jacob because he knew he might see one of those 11 brothers first and he had such fear tremendous abject terror in seeing those brothers and what they did to him that there was no way he was going back because of that abuse and trauma but when Joseph makes this commitment on his way to Egypt that he's going to serve the God of his father and he said as that prayer was offered today he wasn't afraid to let everyone know that he worships the true unseen God and he told that to everybody he knew and we're told that was one of the secrets of his success if he had tried to hide this the many temptations that surrounded him would have become eventually too much for him but he becomes very successful from slave to Stuart in the entire house within a couple of years and now he's got the female attention this is a woman evidence is she wasn't too much older than Joseph more similar to his age and she starts casting her eyes on him he's not only the most obedient servant ever he's so cheerful and caring besides he's the best-looking guy ever I will make myself irresistible she followed him around the house and her cute revealing outfits dropping hints here and there the scripture said it went on day after day and then when those cute revealing outfits and all of her suggestions weren't changing anything she decided it was time to take things in her own hands so he's cleaning the bedroom and then she takes action what did he have to gain on one side more fun special secret with the boss more influence and status more money maybe she might dump her hubby and half would be his what did he have to lose if he said no his status his job and his very life could end due to capital punishment you know it was really sighted on one side plus of the developmental setup that was there this was a huge setup it was so much of a huge setup that we're given some indication behind the scenes by the way before we get to that setup there are many individuals today who have been taken advantage of that are young but often they have some feelings of guilt because after they go after what happened even years later they realized they could have done more to prevent it or stop it or call out the perpetrator immediately but they are or they were afraid and the pro/con list seemed waited too far to one side and so they let it happen it doesn't mean that they're primarily the ones responsible but this is why there's feelings of guilt that come in sometimes with the regards to this and this is why all of us should read in our families Leviticus 18 every year just like they did on the day of atonement to make sure that the the people in that household are empowered with as much as they can be empowered with to resist this and so at a bearing extents they let it happen and those are part that have the abuse that lives with them for a long time but here's what we're told behind the scenes regarding Joseph this temptation so sudden so strong so seductive because now she's revealing herself and she's also taking off his clothes Joseph knew well what would be the consequence of resistance on one hand were concealment favor and rewards on the other hand disgrace imprisonment perhaps death please advance his whole future life dependent upon the decision of the moment would principle triumph with Joseph peace true to God and notice this next phrase with inexpressible anxiety who had anxiety in that room angels looked upon the seemed so they're there but they have the most abject anxiety because they have not seen a young man be able to resist this particularly with his background of starving for female attention and he's getting all the positive female attention his way and now the push is for this and so they have abject anxiety because they didn't know what was gonna happen they didn't know how it would come out but he takes off and follows God's will but as he does so she has the evidence because now he she has his outer clothes and she says he had already taken his outer clothes off and was now forcing his way upon me and then she screamed out for protection she can't believe Joseph did it it was so terrible and he's he heard this on the stand he thought he would be executed as he heard the story but who was it that was guilty of attempted rape it was not Joseph it was Potiphar his wife but the same author that tells us this says this had it not been for this wicked act of Potiphar's wife Joseph would never have become Prime Minister agent that setup and him following the Lord's will where it looks like he's going to his utter destruction was actually the means that God utilized to bring him to the prime minister of Egypt and saved the world from famine at that time and so for every terrible and shocking disappointment that severely traumatized as you there's an even greater appointment if we follow God's will for our life and so there's going to be traumas coming our way there's gonna be disappointments there's going to be coercion attempts there's going to be silencing attempts when you have something truthful and loving to say but for every disappointment that you go through that traumatizes you if you follow God's will for your life there is a great appointment coming and then Joseph finally meets his father Joseph made ready as chariot went up to meet Israel as father to Goshen and presented himself unto Him and he fell on his neck and he wept on his neck a good while we're told Joseph because of his PTSD and mental conditions that were forced upon him he actually cried very easily in public we see that many times in his life but yet his affections for his father what a relationship they had in the last chapter in Genesis when Jacob gives his final family talking council to every one of his sons and then breathed his last breath Joseph was there and he might have said come on brothers you know go forward or whatever but he's the first to fall upon his father's face wept upon him kissed him Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father and the physicians involved him forty days were fulfilled for him for so or fulfilled the days of that which embalmed and the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days and then Joseph for the first time in his life goes back home to bury his father that's the type of parent-child relationships that the Lord would have us form the attachments that will do much good and so I thank God for creating the family we'll talk about it more this afternoon when we get to attachments not only in family but in romance and other relationships but as we reflect on these stories today and the reason why I'm bringing enough this up Church today is I'm telling you this is something that's not talked about but it is a major issue and it's a major mental health issue and we need to give the opportunity just as we gave this man to repent fully repent from what he's done and to recognize that he deserved no commendation for his repentance and to recognize that he was the scoundrel that actually caused his wife's mental illness we need to give everyone the opportunity to repent as did David the Lord might be telling you today you're the man or you're the woman and if he's telling you that today I want you to read Psalm 51 read it with passion and meaning and if it's affected others and affected your church family to come clean and let God take this disappointment and turn it into an appointment let's follow God's will for our life in regards to every aspect of our life including our most intimate relations of him of consecrations number 460 two four six two blessed assurance Jesus is mine to sing the first and the last stanza four six two surely all standards to sing a song please [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] father in heaven well every head is bowed and every eye closed I know there are those here today who have not been following the Lord not been following you in the most intimate secret portions of their life it may be related to what we talked about today it may be related to some other area of their life that is a vice that is keeping them from fully surrendering to you there's a result of this message they see more clearly their need to put all on the altar of sacrifice there's anyone here that is in that position and wants to tell the Lord that I give it all to you raise your hand to him now and say I give it all I'm giving up any last vice that is getting in the way of me and you of me and others and me and my family and my church family lord I pray that you would bless each hand that is raised you would give them the strength to follow through with their commitment and they might be as Paul who died daily to self to live in newness of life with you in Jesus name we pray amen [Music] thank you so much for being a part of our worship service we hope that we to you and now we want to hear from you and let us know your thoughts thank you so much to all of the viewers today please join us again next week and until then God's blessings in our love
