World War 1 Explained in Minecraft by ibxtoycat | A History Teacher Reacts

[Music] hey youtube welcome back to another history teacher reacts video mr. Terry's I continued my search for historical knowledge found here on the Internet alright welcome back to another video that I'm making in it's basically a makeshift studio here I know last video it the quality was terrible the mic was bad and all that and I'm sorry it's still good not gonna be as good a quality as I've had before even if you'd like that or didn't like that before but doing some remodeling and then I'm actually gonna be moving and so a lot of stuff is being packed and moved around so it's a little bit up in the air alright I'm excited for this video for a couple reasons first off we're returning to ibx toy cat who's done these videos that have had like explains some like things in history or geography through minecraft which has kind of been funny also they've been really popular these videos or react videos i've done from this have been really popular in a lot of you guys seem to be into them but i love the idea of this one at least just from the title it's world war 1 explained in minecraft for some reason he he typed there so I thought we would check this out I also wanted to use this as an opportunity to promote the minecraft server that we have in our community so to get more information about that join our discord server go to our discourse over the link will be down below join that and you will see a Minecraft channel with basically kind of the rules and how to get involved and those kind of things now it's a history themed server so we encourage people to make cool things with that history of late and I know some stuff has already been up there and hopefully in not too long from now I'm gonna do I guess kind of reacts to the minecraft server I'm gonna go in basically blind and see some of the stuff that people are working on so if you channel and let's go and get started yes I can and did you know that the Great Wall is actually only called World War one right I always made a bad joke to people that was like you know do you know do you think they called it World War one when it started and obviously like no because I guess the bad joke would be like man if you call World War one then man are you predicting another one already because people thought this will be the war to end all wars right bad reason to start and all of these factors are very clear-cut while you discuss the reason it's not so widely discussed for global one it's because of a real purpose or meaning any of it it was a very pointless war in some ways and I think it's the only thing more pointless than the reason what will one started would be a Minecraft video trying to explain exactly that to you and vaguely going over of war in a somewhat educational mostly sarcastic way ok before he goes on more cuz he speaks fast the reason what he explained about the popularity of World War 2 and people talking about World War 2 versus World War 1 he explained exactly what I believed World War 2 is first stop very easy to study it's very easy like he was saying it's got very clear defined people and here's the enemies and here's the allies and you have these animatic characters like Adolf Hitler Benito Mussolini and then what's going over in Japan it's very clear-cut it's got like these are the causes here's what happens here's how it ended and causes effects that kind of relationship World War 1 is not like that which personally makes me I'm more interested honestly and studying world one that I am World War two you know yeah it doesn't have as many casualties but are we really gonna use that as a barometer of what I'm gonna be out there because it still was the the highest casualty war ever you know in history but I think it's more interesting that the causes are very not well-defined and it didn't solve much it had it was just it's a very it's interesting because it's like a war that didn't start for good reasons and didn't solve anything so me personally actually that's why I like studying war one again why like he says most people tend to study World War 2 more than World War 1 least in life in mainstream culture I want to change game they made a game weight chubby naturally is what one was people call it a world war but realistically it was a European war happen to involve a little possessions around the world children involve every single country in the world of course that would be kind of an accurate yeah I mean yeah it's it's it's like it's kind of like Europe fighting its each other but just fighting all over the world right there colonies is the age of imperialism or kind of it's actually the beginning of the end of that age of imperialism so they have colonies all over the planet and they're using the resources for their colonies yes non-european people thought but you see kind of the the puppet tier kind of is is the Europeans that are getting all these other parts of the world involved see as you can see it's not just that we're a bunch of white people were also quite fighting a bunch of white people what a great analogy I've accidentally created a monster did he miss out so the trench warfare needed to exist in the it was ok yeah any defensive technology trenches or bent had been used forever I mean trench warfare had been it's not new to World War one and a brown forever and it was useful ok I would actually say that the offensive weapons are really what changed that made the biggest effect on World War one not not defensive weapons because of the range and better range that these guns had and also the biggest thing with machine guns which was kind of one of the new newer weapons introduced in the war made charges basically impossible just what you you buried yourself in trenches pretty much in the old days want to call it because even with guns you still had to be very close to the person because they were inaccurate and but they were slow to reload and that kind of thing the machine guns so an offensive weapon I would say there I mean I guess it's it's a defensive weapon to a yeah I mean I guess you could see it both ways but anyway that made charges basically impossible which is why trenches came even more entrenched and more used because you couldn't leave you couldn't rush the enemy so but I would say offensive weapons we're kind of a bigger deal there cuz you also had gas you had tanks that came and although some of those things like tanks wasn't as big of a deal firing when you're behind a trenches on us isn't it's very easy to kill them when they're behind a trench and you're not it's easy for them to kill you but the trenches were in fixed geographic positions they're very easy to make in fixed G record positions you literally just need to use a shovel and this means that it's much easier for you to defend your position like I'm doing right now than it is to go out an attack and that's yeah yeah the effectiveness of trenches was such that and I think this goes into why a lot of people study World War one are sorry - World War two more than World War one is especially in the western half of the war in the Western Front the war was virtually a stalemate for four years not a lot of movement happens there's kind of less to study you know in world war two you have so many of these offensive invasions and movement and stuff like that that it's there's more to study I guess in a way but that's also why I think World War one change the way people viewed wars because wars were never fought the same it seemed like it was a different war than then else like like before because again the lack of movement that happened there and there was no glory and sitting in a trench for months and months and months years potentially just waiting to die which was essentially what people were doing a World War one why when they leave there's as you can see they've done quite a few times then it does the same thing another key aspect of you know like the world war one that is really well represented via this is the fact that you can support they keep disappearing that happened a World War One troops just disappeared time and widespread warfare flamethrowers are something that are hugely practical in war yeah we're flame throwers you're gonna see those they've never I don't know if they've ever been like he said like massively effective but they have utility to them like for example in the Americans and I guess the Allies in general were pushing back Japan out of violence those islands were thickly forested thickly jungle and there was traps and all kinds of places to hide and stuff like that so flamethrowers were useful in those places that were overgrown because you'd blast you know all the you blast the trees and the bushes with the fire that would help you know in there or you know and I guess it wouldn't matter in this jogger and that in a specific geography is you know you find some hole that's used to hide soldiers or something and you just blast in it there so it's not really like a weapon per se it's a way to kind of clear areas but like you said it's yeah it's kind of a demoralizing thing but yeah you can make these game modes because you can see right here behind defensive positions their team are getting stuck in the spawn demoralized they're trying to rush they need machine guns to defend leave her he just got unlucky that I happened to him at the right moment but still this is all it really takes just like could be a fun game mode though because some we can do on our server you can see how we really have to make this huge push just to make every single block you count every single you know like kill we get is just a single block forwards someone has to lose their life for every single tiny fraction of a meter sometimes Plus people can lose their lives just the trade ground immediately this actually sounds where that sounds really fun there to do that there now this looks like though like in their game here there's a lot more movement than World War one actually had I mean it was like a few dozen miles that ever changed very much over the years of World War one in the Western Front he's in front of course is a different story right it they the Germany and their allies I stronger etc they are able to push right Wade further east than they ever did west which led to demoralization of the war for the Russian Empire and them eventually well indirectly leading to the Russian Revolution which leads to Russia pulling out the war so leave it on with the Western Front yeah this is not what that would have looked like because they're pushing this blue team here is pushing way further back when really it just would have been a stalemate forever and ever and ever which would have made a very boring video game which is probably to why you don't see a lot are nearly as many World War one video games as II World War two video games because if you're gonna try to make it realistic it actually would not be probably a very fun game for common people just to be sitting at a stalemate looking at each other in a trench it'd be a pretty niche I think community that would actually enjoy that oh yeah when I started saying that and when I finish saying that build time between like is something that really drove these balls in quite away so like I said the Alliance system that kind of determined the Wars was pretty soon arbitrary and only existed because there were a lot you know treaties that all guaranteed mutual you know kind of defense you know when you look at that specifically so you're looking at the Allied powers of our central powers right Germany austria-hungary Ottoman Empire those are the big three the big three of the Allies would be you got France Russia and Britain and then you know America joins in later but you got those other nations it looks like this is so imbalanced right with that happening there but so it's pretty impressive how the central powers who were initially taking the offensive and did most of the offensive work in this war did as well as they did because when you just look at again all these different things then you you look at you'd think like wow they're like totally outmatched and all that stuff sniper tower would've been the flag then the first one but yeah the the bolsheviks is a recall that going square the Communist Party what other kind of rallying cries at first there's two revolutions and I don't want to get into too much detail in 1917 but in the end what ends up being produced is formation of the USSR and kind of one of the platforms that the party under Lenin and them were we're kind of advocating for was getting out of the war right blaming the former Russian Empire for how they handled the war and getting involved in it and stuff like that and because and also because the war was going so poorly for for Russia this sounded like a you know a pretty good proposition that this new government group coming into power would basically sign a treaty and the the they're they're involved in large is what happened not long after they took over of the new governments that took over with the provisional government and then the communist government afterwards but and then a lot of soldiers actually Russian soldiers actually left the war fronts who basically go and join the revolution back home which essentially doing them as well I call them Russia because they were so easy to kill it's probably not because they have a lot of men in Russia that's kind of like that one that was that one big advantage before they industrialized which was the world wars so they could just throw a lot of people at something it didn't matter if they died at two to one Likud still that's look at World War two that's exactly what happened they had basically double the casualties of anybody else and yeah there's just meat shields so I know if we want to contribute that to Joseph Stalin or something but that's one thing I mean they're also fighting in their homeland for you know with with Operation Barbarossa the German invasion of Russia where the Russians I mean they really if they want to hold on to their land they have no choice but to put people out there which you know they win the war but yeah had a insane cost of loss of life never invade Russia Italy Italy - that's a different story like the red team's coming back the red team's winning because which ones who who's the Allies surprise invasion via Belgium that's famous thing right that the the invasion of France through Belgium was again used by Germany twice and more low on and World War two most because it's a flatter land easier to move through and Belgium wasn't as defended as France might be so that's why it happens you'd think alright then how how could France allow that in the Second World War well I mean they built the Maginot Line which really only extended to France again but Belgium was an ally of theirs and so maybe it looks bad a lot of reasons for that though but again interesting that happened twice like the blue team's pawn back Oh nope someone died on the blue team build time it's like it's wintertime everyone kind of cool I guess steel in there Coliseum amazing what you can do with Minecraft and all the customization you can do oh you can see a shadow on the ground over there oh you see that there's one invisible personal net seem m1 non invisible person you get your ghost your ghost in the trench I mean I mean they did invent the invisibility potion right in World War one so yeah six turf lines minecraft mods' can you get this in there on our server is really demoralizing enemy making them feel bad we can knock the blocks down making the same decisions hiding behind cover it's gonna be pretty neutral in terms of how the trades are made it's gonna be a very slow game oh we got him that is a good shot I'm gonna say good always a one-hit kill Rosetta's headshots pushed back blue team losing slowly being pushed back like it's 1918 tides are turning sitting there was our soldiers so they say there are soldiers that just walked out in the battlefield and we're just like hmm what's going on here today decided to be angry that they won the war and start that's actually felt like they were cheated in the war they felt like it was not a fair fight they felt like the peace terms that were imposed on them that's the military being limited and the huge debts they have to pay what actually ended up happening is just 20 years later as a result of what we like what we now call World War one I mean that's one of the big it's it's interesting thing because so Germany was you know vilified for the war and a lot of that because they're the ones who invaded right they're the ones who invaded although again you can go back to the justification of their invasions and stuff like that because you that's the thing about world war one is you sit there and peel back the the responses why is Germany invading and then you get things like why's austria-hungary declaring war on Serbia why is Russia mobilizing why is France picking aside early on like all these different things or so many things like that which again makes it I think again why it's so interesting to do but in fact the matter is Germany was basically vilified seen as a villain at the end of the war and basically we're gonna put blame on them which was too bad because there's a lot of blame to be shared in World War one of course but the big effect that people talk about is the treaty that was made called the Treaty of Versailles was forced upon Germany and when you are somebody that seen as the aggressor of the war somebody that to seem as their you're the reason why and you lose that war your fate is now in the hands of the people that feel oppressed by you or invaded you know you and you invaded them right they naturally don't like you very much so you put your fate in the people that you pissed off and the treaty very much reflects that it was very much sought out especially by the French and the British that that it was going to be something to not just like end the war but punished Germany long term as you saw with the billions of dollars that were put in as reparations the near total dismantling of the German army ruined their economy and for a lot of people ruined their pride which of course brings an end of the German Empire the ymr Republic comes in which is very weak ineffective government that was unable to solve Germany's problems right after the war is probably any government had those problems but did invigorate a fire in people to try to reclaim kind of Germany's past greatness you know enter something like Adolf Hitler a who was a war veteran who won't get into a lot of his experience in the war but it was very traumatic you know for him but was the reason that he got into politics was literally to dismantle the Treaty of Versailles and why he got spork was just generally believed you know as the years and years went on that these tree this treaty was holding back Germany forever being great again or you know back to what they thought it should be so yeah there you go but the treaty so the question as always comes if the treaty was more lenient on Germany would there have been a world war two great question beyond opinion on it throw it in the comments or throw it in discord and just 20 years later pretty much the exact same happened with only a couple of minor changes basically an exact rerun of what happened before and then again it was deja vu it seemed like it was the exact same thing even the same yeah well kinda I mean Italy switches sides Japan becomes a much bigger part of it of course but it was fought quite differently it was quite quite differently the technology that had developed between the two wars was like night and day better guns the biggest thing was better bigger movement things that were introduced in World War one were completely made over in World War two I'm talking tanks which were pretty crappy and not really that important in World War one but now of a sudden they're fast hard-hitting machines that way planes right which were basically just limited to observation work for the most part I was their biggest impact in World War one are now becoming long distance bombers and much better fighters the technology totally changes why the movement is so different so it was it was quite a different war he got away from more of the trench warfare and back to more movements kind of like older Wars but with far more capabilities to be more deadly exactly the same way except this time instead of it being a conflict about like you know power and the you know the distribution not then who thought it really should belong so instead this time it kind of just came down to being a very evil you know government doing some evil things clear clear definitions right it's like the good guys and the bad guys although the other war had that but it's like for more casual person as you see these things unfold and of course you know a lot of the things that people talk about with like the atrocities of the war didn't get known you know for both sides and in multiple countries didn't get known till much after it was really after the war was starting about the Holocaust or was gone with Japan or some of the things they Allies were doing some of those atrocities really got publicized after the war and then so the war almost became worse off in memory like it was worse than what people actually realized at the end there yeah I mean that not I don't think they were saying it's unfair terms during the war they might have said after that things were unfair but not during I mean they were both doing all kinds of things to get legs up I mean they were you know they had gas which the Germans introduced and then you get tanks coming in and then all these other things that were going on but yeah I would say worth hit hacking during the war that's not true because it was a stalemate forever and you know certain things at the end was as resources were going low the American introduction to the war which helped replenish a lot of things you saw that really start to take a have a big impact some of the although they led to very initially a stable government the Weimar Republic they then led to the worst hyperinflation this is a famous there's a few really cool pictures maybe you know you've seen them before but I just show them in my classes about inflation what those kids are using there if you don't know those are blocks of money German money became worthless due to what's called a hyperinflation and money became worthless it also it wasn't good that the government or or was in charge of the printing at specifically at that time was mass printing money basically printing money with our printing presses around the clock which is flooded their money became literally useless so he's better off uses a toy ad off the show you know Sara Lee but there's a pictures of people having these big blocks of money and then throwing him into their furnaces because it was almost like cheaper to just burn your money than to go and get like coal or wood or something like that to actually like warm up your house it was yeah most cost-efficient use as a toy or as a fuel source for heat 40 million people give or take going in a war and then 20 years later than in a repeat of the exact same thing that's exact same tragedy and what happened that time was 75 million people or about three percent of the world population this gets 100 million people will die in those two wars combined so we were saying how Soviet Union look what's going on there these the deaths that they have they were just absurd when you look at like comparing like their enemy Germany right so it's like this looks like the Soviets lost the war when you look at this but they won but look at the cost as compared to like Germany and saying then you got what China and they're just millions being slaughtered with the Japanese invasion there that gets criminally under looked the the eastern front of the war I'm talking about before like Pearl Harbor and necessarily the the the sort of counter-offensive by the Allies in the Pacific there but story for another time but then if you take that or you know like 18 to 20 year old men like people of fighting age and the percentages literally go over half over half the people of certain demographics died you know if it's a whole generation of people died and your whole generation is something ingrained within people at that time that's why the desire for peace was very strongly so at the time something which has sadly gone away as of wars paid away from memory but yeah that is why people are mourning to read war in the modern age it seems as though because again the horrors of it have been kind of lost on people because most most you know things that we called war since then have been kind of lost on it but yet total war is a thing that does exist can exist and leads to pretty terrible things when it went when those things happened so just remember this is a Minecraft video but you better believe war equals bad and you probably shouldn't do it maybe also have ext cat changing the world felt like we went up a bit up down at the end there so let's let's also finish by saying if it weren't for world war two we wouldn't have these wacky you know KFC ads where Hitler is instead you know the colonel that's what's that it's only happened because of the 75 million deaths can't we can't say that was referring to did I miss something now that's a positive note that no minecraft video on like favorite subscribe and I'll see you all get'em essentially you know or what's what's a video game and you can kind of sneak in some things in there I'm fine for it if the goal is to educate people so you know you hope something like this for just a casual minecraft player that wants to see a video on that also got to learn about World War one you know and using that tool so from that standpoint I like what ibx toy cat does with those sort of things and bringing in like education with the Minecraft there so that's that's good stuff yeah he was able to explain a lot of things a lot of real good things about kind of how the war is viewed a little bit about the conduct hopefully I was able to add some things and kind of to put some more context or attach some things about how you can how you can view this war and my opinions kind of about the study of World War one and stuff like that so hopefully you got some good things out of that all right the original video was down below so make sure you support that if you're into you know
