WORLD’S MOST PERSONABLE REPTILE?

hey everybody welcome back if you're a subscriber to this Channel and you watch our videos regularly then you're well aware that my wife Casey and myself live a life fully dedicated to reptiles we work with them both in nature and right here at our private facility throughout our lifetimes the number of turtles and tortoises that we've come to know in the flesh is insurmountable there would be no way to measure it every once in a while you come across an animal whose level of Charisma personality and sheer intelligence are enough to floor you and in this video we're going to introduce to you a very special turtle that we just got yesterday who is by far the most unique Turtle we've ever come to know foreign [Music] dude this is Otis Otis is an adult male Eastern Box Turtle just given to us by the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge who we handle a ton of turtle rescues and surrenders with we don't know much about this turtle's pass so far other than that he was with his previous owners for nearly a decade we named him Otis because well he seems to act more like a dog than a turtle we handle and work with hundreds of box turtles of all types and Otis displays behaviors we have never seen before to this degree we have a lot of personable friendly Turtles and tortoises here at Garden State tortoise but Otis truly Takes the Cake he does not get along with other Turtles for starters as all of our other box turtles live in harmony in their assigned groups here he's extremely interested in people and as you can see he has absolutely no fear of anything and spends his time interacting with people regardless of who they are this turtle is truly amazing I mean just what is it that he's doing he just studies you kind of moves with you what's interesting about him is he really seems to lock eyes with you he's really looking directly into your eyes as if to pick up on something now as far as this being the feeding response goes we tried offering him food a bunch of times when he's like this and he doesn't take them you can pet them this doesn't flinch now of course we don't just keep Otis on the floor as if he were a dog he is in fact a turtle with wild instincts and he's gonna need access to natural elements he's only been here barely two days but he'll be getting an indoor exhibit inside our Nature Center as well as an outdoor enclosure that'll be just as naturalistic as all the others we've built on this property which you guys have seen in our videos at the time of making this video we're just trying to get to know this amazing turtle and see what he's capable of popcorn Park Animal Refuge mentioned that he was special but unless you experience him yourself it's hard to put into words what he's really like Otis loves to follow us around and he'll follow me outside to get some fresh air I let him mess around in one of the empty pens so he can experience nature and just be a box turtle for a little bit foreign [Music] once he's had it it's back inside the Nature Center and he follows me no problem he eats well on a healthy normal box turtle diet and overall he's in very good health as we get ready to build his exhibits he's very contentious hanging out and observing everything inside the Nature Center where it's nice and warm [Music] even though Otis acts like a dog he's not going to be taken for walks and he's certainly not going to be getting milk bones but he is going to be used as an educational Ambassador in our talks and presentations that Casey and I do about reptiles and amphibians particularly those found in our own State and in the Northeast and hey the eastern box turtle that's pretty iconic for this area so there you have it that's Otis I hope you guys enjoyed this video I hope you enjoyed meeting him and seeing his Antics he will be in many more videos to come please don't forget to subscribe click that Bell icon for notifications that's an important one and if you want to support our work go to the very top of this YouTube channel page and click on the store pick up some Garden State tortoise apparel if you see something you like every dime counts and it goes right back into everything that we do right here all the time with these amazing animals so Otis and I'll see you in the next video [Music]
