over the course of a whole year we have been given exclusive access to the hidden world behind the scenes of Windsor Castle the Queen's favorite home a world of royal ceremony of pomp history and tradition but also of fun excitement and color we meet some of the 300 staff who work and live here serving the monarch keeping her state apartments clean tending the fireplaces grooming the horses exploring its darkest corners and preparing the sumptuous banquet and we meet the member of the world family who for over 50 years has been ranger of the Great Park the castle has stood for 1,000 years but this is the first time it's thrown its most private doors open to the world spread out over 13 acres Windsor is the largest inhabited castle in the world it is a palace filled with great treasures and the odd mystery got me charged yes found in the back of the locker in my office shorty Jesus know she probably parking when does Cathedral size chapel is at the forefront of royal family life and is home to clergy with pressing modern demands I don't like marriage rocks and organs at all just as remarkable as the castle is the great park itself miles of a Dilek public countryside wedged between the River Thames London suburbs three motorways and the world's busiest airport it may have been famous story of course is American tourists was heard to say well why do they build a cast it's so close to the of an airport both house and garden have to pay their way in an unforgiving world the castle depends on visitors to maintain its art the chapel must fund itself as well the cost estimate is four hundred and four thousand pounds the estate also has to make ends meet the new girl Organic it's a vast Stage two for favorite family events and a playground for everyone look at this this is England this is fantastic you couldn't buy this in a million years the person in charge of this by tradition is the Ranger of the great park the present one has held this position for more than 50 years longer than anyone in history but the Duke of Edinburgh has never previously given an interview while on his rounds he's taking give another picture me getting into the car system where it's fine like every ranger he knows it's his duty to hand it on in good shape to the next generation Windsor stretches far beyond the castle walls friends had some of these parakeets or bought the budgerigar Zazu we thought we got some of those and then I thought it'd be real father have some doves floating away so trouble is they get nicked by spell of hawks and things but on the whole they exceed bird breathing seems to keep up within weeks of becoming monarch in 1952 the queen appointed the Duke of Edinburgh to the position of Ranger of the great park he must make sure that this ancient estate is run efficiently the greenhouse production has recently been reduced the difficulty is that we're either here by ourselves or we got a hundred people living in the present you know if you've got a green greenhouse you need to have a sort of constant production it's much more expensive growing our own stuff from getting it through Tesco or it is he has not surrendered to the big guns of retail there he's recently opened wins us very own farm shop the Windsor farm shop sells stock from all the Royal estates all the butchering is done in the back there or right here in front of everybody and the majority of this is comes from off the estate but a lot of it comes from our local producers so here we're gonna sort of fog up the system if we stay here much longer do you think morning boy the public are about to arrive at the castle to castle superintendents major Allen Denman begins his daily patrol pretty fond of it it's a it's a it's an obviously over a thousand years old and a thousand years and you know something's gotta be taken care holidays coming through right even though I've been here the yeah but still parts of the castle have not been into every morning he walks the entire visitors route and make sure the staff are happy I love you let's do Network hello ladies how are you good ladies right some of them down I was hello in Thai nothing else so probably coming through here ten o'clock all the lights now make sure the lights are working again all the chandeliers make sure the lights are working good place for dolls here to make sure the stores octoly yes major Denman is a stickler for security and tidiness should blast out here he always spoke to a blasty of the nice on the pizza Wales function out in the home park the castles back garden the Rangers thoughts turned to sport once an avid cricketer and polo player he has taken up carriage driving in later life I was president in the International Equestrian Federation back in the 60s and 70s and it was just the time that I was giving up polo and so I'm looking around what else to do I thought I must want to have a go at this driving business as if we had horses and carriages at things in women in London at 83 he's looking forward to the Royal Windsor horse sure this is the proposed site for next year's wins a horse show in this field here the Duke is president of the show it's grown so large that is moving it to a bigger site this will be the new area of the new show on that net side there'll be the far end of that bazooka doing a definite was a profit one of the problems they try and do the Christmas broadcast here as they have to do it in the key sort of 30 seconds slot let's get used to earlier but you don't prune it's the Windsor horse show is now a major international equestrian fixture on the estate it's always a sign that summer has arrived competition is fierce from the highest levels to the lowest the Queen likes to blend in with a crowd but her main concern is entry number 72 in the three-day carriage driving partly the Duke is up against European opposition less than half his age there's no cutting corners even for a Royals rider it's not quite enough time the Duke must settle for third place as the Queen presents the prizes to others none of the family has ever broached the subject of his plan now you will be yes but I don't know where yes but other members of your family keep pressing you - no no no no I think we pretended to let each member of the family get on with whatever luden said they feel like indulging you in the castle major Denman continues his inspection at his own risk face you'll see the pedometer yeah there we go I bought a pedometer obviously since leave the armature needs a bit more weight but I'm tied to 20,000 steps a day and there's well and it's now 12,000 nice nice look at the shore it's cuz every sort of either go past the other pay my wages so no it's good to have this policy that's important you know for the castle Oh tourism is crucial to Windsor 1 million visitors bring in eight and a half million pounds each year the money supports the royal collections national treasures and the rest helps repay the castle 4 million pound maintenance bill very good morning welcome to work Windsor Castle awnings Pisa my name is penny it's an alluring mix a royal home and a thousand years of history William the Conqueror built Windsor Castle defeated the English in 1066 in the Battle of Hastings now the Queen spends lots and lots of time here at Windsor she's looking very royal isn't she in this picture nest of us to knit the Queen yes I have met the Queen actually a lot of people want to know how I met the Queen several children proposed if I am The Queen the castle and estate help bring more than 300 million pounds each year into the local economy teasing the centuries is one of the castles enduring attractions I want to think it fired if they laugh no it's gotta be hard he's gonna laugh he's biting his tongue right now no that's good he's not gonna blow it he goes home to his wife and says hey let me tell you about my day okay you ready say Pope it's a unique community if you look on the hill here now I mean it's a good example and you know you've got the military Knights here you know living here I live in the center my next-door neighbor is the governor of the military Knights on the right hand side you've got the chapel people come here they worship here they're christened here people are buried here so I said it is a unique community it's a very it's a very special place at the lower end of the castle sits in George's Chapel a gothic masterpiece where the royal family have worshiped since medieval times monarchs are buried here the Prince of Wales had his marriage blessed here but it's also a local church which holds at least three public services a day it supports its own clergy as well as in George's house a centre for interfaith discussions behind closed doors since George's always does its own thing some George's Chapel is what is known as a royal peculiar which means that we are not within a Church of England diocese we have only one boss that is the Queen so George's Chapel is entirely self-funding the Dean and his canons are starting some very expensive maintenance work at this stage the cost estimate is four hundred and four thousand pounds which is thirteen down on the original projection there are no floor wards to look under where we might discover terrible things and so there's a hope that we might be keep fairly on target to survive the chapel must rely on a slice of ticket money donations and the chapel shop but the shop hasn't been performing it's too small it's in the wrong place and it has the wrong products so Canon John White and chapter Clark Charlotte manly Dean's cloths have been appointed to supervise the loss of a new shop they start by hiring a shop manager with some modern idea for a long time there's been a wish that we do something to redevelop the shop and really move that on into the 21st century and this is just a beautiful location as people exit the chapel where we can have new fixturing state-of-the-art merchandise until systems but also a much more accessible area for our visitors even in a medieval cloister the latest marketing techniques are acquired the chapel shop committee have asked branding expert David Clare to design a new identity since George's needs a logo the title really of this presentation is creating a retail identity emphasis in George's Chapel an identity is being formed in the way that the shop is coming together physically but we also need to develop a brand identity that works effectively supporting the chapel and also representing the product David thinks he has just the answer an image of Saint George which is seen on the front of the altar but will it meet the demanding standards of Canon white listen George from the tapestry is actually a very very beautiful tapestry it's very nicely rendered and it's a very very attractive image of son George so the principle here quite so much like Jim Wright it's quite a feminine it is a very feminine position education don't it does I think the more it becomes simplified the more feminine count with me that yeah cool well the face I think it becomes more and more feminine on the simplified sign I think also it picks out all the features more and more as it becomes a set-aside can I stop the few straight questions yes do one of the pros and cons of the some James and George issue try to confuse them with an image that is yes I'm gonna be a big blunt side like image rhymes and Georgians at all okay and I think it gives quite the wrong kind of feel I think it's androgynous and uncertain and a bitty feet and it has a as far as I'm concerned all the kind of sake romances and I don't think we ought to be showing so the answer is no on some George yes I think we would be we would set be happy with some doors no not some doeth particular one Canon white leads the search party around the chapel to find a more variety happy businesses and George on this window except if there is anything somebody uh in the center Oh in the center no news no that's unlikely aren't angel she has wings of Sousa Michael yes a does right baseball okay it's fun but it wouldn't work for those between you could actually see no it's not because it's a second Pedro yes right idea wrong color they widen the search around the castle at last tucked away in the chapel archives they all find what they've been looking for a tougher stronger more masculine sand George hi guys this thing is Scott talking about you know if you can use this we're going to agree on it yep correct okay okay that's good thank you like the cannons of some George's the Ranger of the great Park has difficult decisions to make about his own patch his regular attempts to replenish Windsor's tree population are not always popular when Queen Anne's ride was damaged by wind and Martha Ellen I came to ssin but the only thing to for it was to replant it well we were taking some down that were upon the tree huggers from new breed bypass they descended on us some time ago and made the most appalling first to the extent that it's been almost impossible to take down dead trees or even to remove dead branches the Duke is always full of ideas for the park even if some schemes approved a little too ambitious that great tankers and remains of an attempt to have a fire gas plant we felt we'd try and put all the manure in from this these two farms and then it went through a digester and it comes out as sort of fertilizer and produces some gas as well unfortunately while they were doing something to digest it blew up so we have still got to get rid of it it's it's quite difficult to get it right he shares his love of innovation with a previous Ranger also married to a queen Albert Victoria's Prince Consort this is a Prince Consort farm was designed by him and is a dairy farm we got about 200 Jersey cattle in here and the Shore farms one further up which is airship cattle at shore farm Adrienne Tomlinson looks after the Queen's heir she heard something I'm very proud of doing is breeding pedigree capital for for Her Majesty the Queen and hopefully I'm doing a good job of it I'd been here probably about six months before I first met the Queen I was taking the cows back to the field after I've milked them and been pulled up in a car and sort of said hello and etc and I was very aware that I should have perhaps changed my overalls that morning hadn't done and what a state I was in Adrienne's archrival is Andrew Buckland he runs the other royal heard the prize-winning jerseys at Prince consorts form her name is good news she was a supreme champion at the Royal Forest show last year and we're taking her again this year is a fairly fitting name we think oh we hope what the bad knees after tomorrow I think she's as good as she was last year I mean I agents got some very good cars I've seen up there but some yeah I would hope that some you know she does she does well hopefully as well as last year andrew is the reigning champion in these parts but as windsors big Agricultural Show approaches Adrian and his ashes are determined to steal a crown off the jerseys he wants his cars to be the Queen's top herd I had the best cow at the show last year but the judge didn't think so so he thought the Jersey cat was the best one last year and riku a bit sheepish eh it's just a friendly friendly rivalry really we all quite sort of all on the same team at the end of the day some people say it's the taking part that counts don't lend them to some degree of course it is isn't it but you know when you go into this trouble you know you do winnings the thing really isn't it the cows must look the part it may be an agricultural show but this will be a beauty parade too both men know what will impress the judge she should have good sort of spring of rib you can see the bone quality depth of body this nice straight top-line good straight legs good strong milk vein good forward attachment Lee out of attachment should sort of come up as high as possible blend in up under the tail head she looks dairy like and she looks feminine this kind of sort of super by thinking in all of those traits the windsor castle labyrinth extends far below the surface castle superintendent major Allen Denman is still finding his way around we're going to the fender Smith's and I do like to get around the castle and have a look at various parts of the castle and there's a tunnel underneath the fender Smith's room so we're gonna have a quick look down there if I look around the boiler room and even though being here just over a year it's probably about 25% the rooms and places I've been into so I do like to have a little wander now and again got me torch yes I found in the back of the knuckle in my office and you can see it's got him most of the Queen on but I'm sure she sees this know she probably want it back right there we are in the hub the operations room the fender Smith's tell us about this sign on your door here I think it was one of the policemen having a bit of a laugh on his computer it's a it's a laugh isn't it I don't wear such a big nappy as the boy there but um yeah it's all right yeah right Oh some of this tunnel like Neal we're not quite sure what his total was used for but we believe it may have been used for an air-raid shelter the Second World War well you can imagine what it'll be like digging it out yeah Kearney yeah there are many tunnels here no one is entirely sure when or why this one was originally built but it's probably medieval back then the castles occupants always needed a way out during a siege yeah quite nervous you can have winds of spring water we bet go forward to this is whether this mean offenders must keep their wages yeah that's why there's two strong rooms rather than one do you enjoy that I don't know yeah this is a part of Castle lamb I haven't seen any very interesting oh yeah and you wouldn't go anybody went down there apart from the four thousand footprints on our carpet now for now it's business as usual for Gary and Neil the castle fender Smith the fender is a feast basically in front of the fireplace and it texts any sort of rugs carpets from coal or spitting embers that sometimes fly out to the fire there are probably three or four hundred fireplaces in Windsor Castle but on a regular basis we're only looking for the ones that the royal family themselves use weighs probably about eight stone no money there aren't too many of us left doing exactly this so it's a job that we would quite foul off down here my cousin used to be a cabinet maker his son was in one of the pantries for a while my dad did my job before me his mum was in the turkey farm down on the park so yeah we're sort of third generation here so yeah it's a long old tradition for me once the royal family are in residence it's always time for the fender Smiths to smarten up nine times out of ten we try to get in and out without seeing anybody but there are times when you know you do bump into guests and members are all family so hence the livery goes on gary was in charge of lighting fires at the time of the 1992 fire but he has a clear conscience we know the big one was anything to do with us how FAR's are fairly regulated that was one of the days when we would have lit a fire for a majesty so needless to say I said to her page at the time I don't think we'll be lighting a fire today that's unfortunately the castle was burning not that one is it how does father Christmas get in Windsor Castle this time of year bobble Christmas will come down one of our chimneys if he's got a pass father Christmas isn't I don't think on the computer at the moment the the Ranger arrives at an old airfield in a far corner of Windsor Great Park this was a base during the Second World War and later on the Duke had flying lessons his after the planes left he came up with another of his plans thought it might be now daughter sorry Polo Club here somewhere and we hit on this place and then we got the head groundsmen eton college to advise us on how to convert this sort of Heath into a into a playing field it's searching quite popular but now the standards are so phenomenal they even suggesting that this isn't flat enough and quite sure they mean by in his day the Duke was a leading polo player and Smith's Lawn is now one of the most famous polo arenas in the world and when there's a polo tournament going on here and there's a Windsor Park Equestrian Club going on here on one weekend it is probably a thousand horses on Smith's lapatin ladies and gentlemen good morning today the Rangers grandson is keeping up the family tradition they're already pouring onto Smith's lawn for the greatest event in the British polo calendar Cartier International Day and Prince Harry is the star attraction in the opening game where does the deal with it away in the absence of his father he's leaving the Prince of Wales's team against The Hurlingham Club as Prince Harry gets into the thicker the crowd almost as excited as the Polo is not the only attraction for the international media they know that there is only one place to be seen inside the Katia enclosure a knowledge of polo is not good quite well they tell me it's like there's the equine version of the Ferrari but a little Fame certainly help it's also kind of a part of the scene let's go see what this is the sponsors have put up a huge marquee and invited a mix of clients celebrities and what I'm honored that I was invited man I mean you know I'm just a Hasselhoff you know I'm from Baltimore Maryland and here it is you know I called my dad and he's what are you doing I said I'm having lunch with the Queen I think it's spectacular to know that the Majesty the Queen is going to come and on top of that we bring a few members of her family there is a little bit of a magic here that you cannot find anywhere else it is an occasion which has become an established part of the summer season tonight one Rossetti party always have some a strategist and and wife gives the best lunch and the Sun always seems to shine yes the Queen's back garden isn't it it's a very very special venue back on the field Prince Harry is making his mark but some people have already taken their eyes of the Polo I'm just an amazing girl over there I let these got liquors on so it was what she waiting for the wind blow in the end prince harry has to settle for second place and in losers rosette Smith's lawn is now preparing for the big international match England are taking on Chile the home team arrived for their final briefing what is it like playing in front of this crowd and I suppose the Queen as well nerve-racking but it's also you know what every sportsman's tries for England coach John Hawes well fears that preparations have gone well I know the boys are all well prepared all we got to do is to sort out horse orders make sure the horses are synchronised well between one play and another we're as well prepared as we can be we've had three practices the last one was disastrous the sellout crowd moved to their seats the Queen will watch from the Royal Box of the guards Polo Club the coach offices last-minute boots if you see an opportunity ah release do not over complicate the fact that those are people here is irrelevant this is a home alright we're all in this together you see the ball coming for you on the far side you're sitting next to your girlfriend throw yourself in front of it they beat your wife sit back and enjoy it here we go England are soon in trouble it's five to two chilly and John holes well is feeling the pressure would you go please look I'm trying to think what I'm gonna say okay I don't give up whether it's horrible or not honesty you're a good friend of mine but just leave me alone England mount a revival of salt the Carmichael but externally there it is ladies and gentlemen the Kwan the coronation car here this afternoon John offers a post-match analysis we play like and we found like 10,000 the trophy goes back to South America Her Majesty gives back to the castle but at least someone has something to cheer that's fantastic Queen every treaties hot come in the car Jagger and driving foursome yes love it incent George's Chapel everything is being done to get the new cloister shop ready for the grand opening the suitably masculine scent George has finally been turned into a laser dissolve with Roger Clark Charlotte manly views the result is the first image it looks good and strong and I think that's a lot better thumbs up go for it son a new shop needs new product Charlotte has invited a firm of retail specialists to pitch their wares well we're here to talk about product so we've gone through the Ray exciting bit talk about the plans of the shop and really now here is where we can bring it to life for you gosh where do we start there is some fabulous fabulous product out there we know people like buses they like soldiers we also have our fabulous infuser range now Oh bags yes we'll be using this sort of little style of bag but again with a little beads and the tassels or so marks let me show you a couple of marks as well yeah Oh ties as well really nice ties we did talk about handsome and I get excited for unusual products in Georgia oh yes exactly Stanton saw that until Charlotte has been doing some homework right direction I agree those are lovely but I've also look that the M globes and things I seem to see them quite a lot of other places was that just just just shuts sheer chance I see one of these lunch shopping them Dartmouth and Devon one in Stockbridge in Hampshire you are the experts in this area rather than me and you're displaying ideas I realize that it but it is beginning to appear in other places but that's my le that's my only quarters remark about it not the product itself it's just that it's okay well well bear that in mind and I think hmm I'm not quite sure what to say to that actually time to switch turn oh the chocolate very exciting this chocolates weird gonna be sieve pellets when we were testing energy I just don't like some I've been again it's opening day cannon white is presented with the first carrier bag bearing the new logo I ask much better than what they saw before and then I don't think so and I think me I think you work as an illustration it's worked quite well really developing it up another statue that's great in the center of the cloister no people have any trouble with animal rights people about killing dragons you hopefully not yeah something up running mini dragons left in are the local media have arrived along with many friends of suit George's the Dean of Windsor gets business underway it's my great pleasure to welcome you all to this little reception I declare that the shop is well and truly open it's always a problem having a shop in a church people have got quite strong ideas and because of Christ's driving the money changers and the sellers of doves out of the temple precincts you've always got therefore they're back at their mind but economic realities can't be ignorant well the money that we get from the shop is key this place doesn't run on no money at all it takes a lot of cash to fund the choir to fund the buildings themselves to pay salaries and the funds that we get from the shop are very very important to that whole game plan delighted delighted really first-class absolute Oberlin tots and a job I think if Lord Sainsbury says that we've got a decent shot it must be a decent shot and yura see in the first month alone takings at the new shop were by nearly 70 percent on the old another victory wasn't George it's Judgment Day in the great park the Royal Forest Agricultural Show rival Royal dairy farmers Adrian Tomlinson and Andrew Buchan are about to go head-to-head of their cows Adrian prepares his ashes for what will be a tense beauty parade the judges hugely respected learn a moment I've got a lot of time for like that well well-known figure nationally um but he is he's a jersey manly nose out of Jersey air there was like she likes the jerseys but he's um you know first bus chat my first class good so hopefully the best Carol via coming first you know there's not a lot that dairy legend Donald dolls doesn't know about cows will he select one of the queens and if so which one has not a man to be rushed to the world are hosting this show once again with the great part while defending Russia all the preparations have come down to this one moment Andrew and Adrian can only stand and hope so there can be the Dairy Queen Mary trampled on agent with the dairy champion trophy to stick in his cabinet Adrian is off to celebrate at the heart of Windsor Great Park is the York Club it's the social hub of the estate community BST it's some about 1 pound 80 yeah I'm kind of 80 tonight there's an added attraction a charity ferret race I've been around here 15 years but I'm the new boy compared with a lot okay you know I've been around two or three generations Adrienne can't win them all ferret ponies cows deer today it's the turn of the swans on the Thames all the young ones must be counted in an ancient ceremony known as Swan uppy it's a quite old English tradition and something we should really try to maintain there's always something going on in this kingdom within a kingdom a charity match for the Lord's Taverners and their royal 12th man to play the great English game in this setting is just clear Zara Phillips represents Britain or the Windsor horse trails in front of the throne their ever sub nd right look like that schools open day at the Crown Estate headquarters like the castle the grounds have a pageantry of their own way the Queen's castle is a spectacular treasure chest much of the Royal Collection is on display here room after room of great paintings antiques drawings furniture and much more it's a silver gilt so it's silver covered in gold silver kangaroo laughs cause I repeat I think it's priceless no one can put a value on it or there would be much much more if Oliver Cromwell and his Republicans are not sold off most of the earlier royal treasures after the English Civil War even so this is still one of the greatest collections in the world it doesn't just need cleaning it needs constant expert attention to preserve it for the future and it was also be shared with other exhibitions so something is always on the move the collection is regarded as a national asset the the paintings which been handed down from generation to generation are in effect in a sort of position of trust and the sovereign is the the person who ultimately has responsibility for their well-being in a sense oh that we obviously would do all the work so that they're preserved for in effect the nation every painting in the Royal Collection comes back to Windsor when it requires work we've got a rather large Rubens a very very important painting from Buckingham as' it's horribly covered with old varnish old repaint it's brown it does need a lot of work we would never put that painting in on public showing the condition it is now people probably don't realize how much work is behind the scenes I mean the ideal is that you shouldn't realize you shouldn't look at the paintings I think gosh they all look as if they're being cleaned recently they should just look good Windsor is a merry-go-round of great art the painting which has just left the State Department is a Windsor favourite the Chinese convert by nella Rupert must give it a full inspection before releasing it on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London the Royal Collection does get a lot of requests or paintings to be loaned to exhibitions and if we can we do oblige them with that because it seems important that they they are seen by Makena if not in the castle in an exhibition elsewhere as one masterpiece departs another returns Rupert and his team are reuniting Queen Anne with her husband King James the first of England she was the daughter of the King of Denmark her brother became the King of Denmark and she married the King of England in Scotland and then her sons were future King so she was a very proud you know proud of her lineage and so the merry-go-round of great works continues they seemed shame not to have his Queen next him he's been here for a long time isn't he the James the first and even though it's not an exact pair even though they weren't meant to be necessarily seen together they're about the same artists there the king and queen the dating is appropriate you've got the next generation here with Charles and so it's it's a very appropriate picture ready okay yeah yes good of all the Dukes projects as Ranger he's particularly proud of creating a new Deer Park at Windsor um this was originally to keep the deer the great part from getting into from coming down this way now you have to keep the deer in bloody silly trouble is a week late they wander about over here when when everybody's out of the park and then when people come in they move off a bit this used to be arable all through here during the war it was all plowed out but it's lousy I mean most of its clay it's burnt almost impossible to and then we had cattle on it and it was all fenced in it wasn't profitable and so we decided to put it back to a deer park when we brought them down from Belmar and they've always been deer yes at least we brought back their descendants so that all this is now open park which i think is a very much better arrangement than it was before i mean looking at this that surely was the right thing to bring back the Deer Park because it is amazing I'm glad you agree there's got to take me getting into the car yet again perhaps the greatest challenge for the park during the Dukes era has been the increasing numbers who use it many more people use the part because what what's happened in the last 50 years many more people have grown motorcars they can travel further so that a huge number if you've just can drive you it wasn't always like this George the fourth believe your knowledge would not allow anybody into the great park at all not even his household and we are delighted to share it with a really the community shares them if they didn't take our dogs for walk naturally people come from all over to walk imagine good heavens animo can compared to most people we're extremely fortunate have any open space at all the Duke believes that the main duty of every Ranger is to be a custodian for the future I mean life's gotta go on after me if I can make life margining more tolerable for people come afterwards or even at the time I'd be delighted the next generation I equally attached to Windsor tonight just weeks before his wedding the Prince of Wales has gathered celebrities and business leaders here to support his Prince's Trust it's hard to refuse an invitation to dinner here this is the first time that I've ever been to ins a castle I'm trying to be polite talk to people but at the same time I'm looking all around me trying to take it all in this breathtaking or inspiring it's slightly over the top with me on the dole here these guests they have not just come to admire the deckle there are ambassadors for a trust which has been helping disadvantaged young people for thirty years Kenny Ross was jobless and homeless until a trust helped him build a new life he's also a keen guitarist and tonight he's not only having dinner at the castle but he's made a new friend eric clapton things like this to happen everywhere it's hard I'd certainly sir it's unreal Kenny is not the only one who's a little dumbstruck by the occasion it's overwhelming isn't it it's a bit overwhelming I'd like to be on my own so I could just walk around level look nikkichapman has just seen the seating plan well I'm actually sitting at his table yes I think imagine sitting rather close to him I'm gonna have to be on my best behavior but before anyone can tuck into their lemon cured salmon the host reminds them why they're here lizard on I couldn't be more delighted than to welcome you all here this evening to Windsor Castle now all I ever wanted to do when I started the trust three decades ago was above all to make an investment in the future pure and simple this cause has been close to the princes heart for many years the future Duchess of Cornwall would be attending many evenings like this in the years ahead and believe me there are literally thousands of young people out there who do need us all I can say is you are quite literally saving lives so thank you all very much indeed the guests don't need without offering the prince and his bride-to-be their best wishes when I think it's a great thing it's a great honey I knew seems right it's harvested proclamation of love can't be wrong the day has come that love is about to be recognized formally and in front of millions around the world even for windsor scene of so many great state occasions this will be an historic landmark it's a hundred and forty-two years since the Prince of Wales was last married here Kassel flagman Tony Martin has a somewhat larger model it's so big that he's drafted in the buckingham palace flag minute to help him raise it here we go how big is this one 38 feet by 19 feet wide fantastic this sounds like this guys see this arethe rock the flowers are monumental 35,000 daffodils to honor the Prince of Wales it would have been nice to put a few leaks in I think people might have said it's melted it soon the guests won't need much dinner after this reception well I think all together is about nineteen and a half thousand canapes for the actual reception which is quite a lot to do and some 2,000 well-wishes in the lower ward need looking after - the one thing is not gonna go wrong there's loads of loose ladies gentlemen and disabled we got scattered all over the castle at 12:25 the bride and groom makes a short journey into the town for the Civic ceremony there will only be 28 guests of this event but at some george's chapel 800 arriving for the afternoon service of dedication and prayer it is both exciting and momentous in porcelain blue the new Duchess of Cornwall arrives with her prince by blessing loads these rings be to Charles and Camilla a symbol of unending love and faithfulness a new royal era begins the Queen the Duke of Edinburgh and the House of Windsor rally around now officially Her Royal Highness the Duchess begins her first walkabout baby son I've heard so much about having sorted out the car decorations the young princess and their father and his bride on their way absolutely fantastic nailed it end of a good week the honeymoon will be in Scotland celebrated the start of something very very remarkable those who were here today will never forget Windsor Castle has stood here through more than forty rains and it is still very much at the heart of royal life the prime challenge for every generation is to hand it on to the next the Ranger hopes he has done his bit I think to try and create a memorial to yourself by your lives slightly indecently I'd rather other people deciding what what legacy I'd left and I'm not trying to create what any organism needs to be kept going in fact it is going still after 50 hands and that's not bad going because if you hadn't done it something worse might have occurred William the Conqueror built his castle up here and has been occupied virtually ever since no one will ever build another Windsor for all its history it's real strength will always lie in its people you know somebody's stuff have been here sort of fate the odd years and you know a year is nothing the rest of the world coming are those tin cans to see what we've got here you know tradition in history we have a very good what word should have boss to write adhere news it says it's like eating quick and get back here it's the Nervii time here marvelous one of the lovely things about Windsor Castle is it's alive and it's working I can't imagine Windsor Castle any other way just got a check out he is not rich Nick look at this this is England this is fantastic you couldn't buy this in a million years we as a staff must never forget that she is the queen on a hot day such as gar today the middle of June it can be very very uncomfortable you
