Windelo 50 - The ULTIMATE ELECTRIC Bluewater Catamaran? [4K Tour] Learning the Lines

look at all of that solar on the coach roof here and I just I can't get over these solar panels 20 Kow 48 volt DC direct drive highlight of the boat right here guys highlight of the boat what's up everyone today I'm even more excited than usual about today's tour because as you might already know if you've been watching for a while I have an affinity for electric boats so when the opportunity to tour the windel 50 a hybrid electric Basalt fiber performance cruising cataman that also incorporates the best forward cockpit I've ever seen came up I had to travel to Florida to take it I was also able to be aboard to sail the boat from Fort Lauderdale to Miami in preparation for the boat show this year so I wanted to thank both Wendell and just cataman for having me aboard it was a great time and there will be another video with my thoughts on the sailing performance coming up in about a week so stay tuned for that remember to do all the usual things and without further Ado let's get to the [Music] tour all right everybody I just stepped aboard and I can tell you I am going to like this boat look at all of that solar on the coach roof here you've got dagger boards you've got nice safe side decks here nice and wide you got a place that you can hold on to going forward all the way forward synthetic lifelines even more walkable solar on the four deck here now before I go forward which you guys know I always always do first I want to emphasize going aft into the cockpit right here really easy just two wide steps right here with handrails on each side so nice and easy to get into the cockpit and you guys are going to see that that cockpit is absolutely amazing pretty soon design-wise look at how big this covered and protected bridge deck area is I love it the rig is actually stainless on this boat and then I believe an aluminum Mast as well there's a big slab reefed man up there with a stack pack and then your standard catamaran rig the dagger boards are nice and out of the way makes going forward nice and easy and then going forward and coming up to the for deck here nice big secure trampolines this whole for deck area is really secure with the lifelines and with the way that this is designed put some netting on those lifelines and you've got a nice area for the kids especially at anchor these solar panels are really really incredible the fact that they've got nonskid on them they feel good under your feet and they generate a ton of power for the electric motors these two hatches are going to go down below I like that life raft location it's a good spot especially on a catamaran and then you've got these massive massive toy lockers sail lockers really sail or toy lockers up in the boughs of the boat here continuing forward great spot self-tacking jib that's an interesting choice right there the chain is actually hanging underneath that section right there you've got the running rigging going through that all the way up to the two head sails which is nice I would have expected the chain to go through that as well I'm curious as to why why it doesn't and it goes through that instead nice big folding bows sprit up here for your larger head sales your screechers code DS very nice and again just a safe for deck you can rig up some lifelines up here if you wanted to if you had kids for sure Dolphin seats and I just I can't can't get over these solar panels I love them another huge bowle Locker on the starboard side here just so much storage space space for toys it's kind of like your garage on the boat really very nice then continuing after guys as you might have been able to surmise the helm is going to be right here there's actually two Helms so you've got twin Central Helm stations right in the center of the action absolutely love it and they're fully protected as you guys can see looking at the bridge deck lockers so down here you've got storage and tankage it looks like that's the diesel tank right there now this is a diesel electric hybrid electric drive so it has a 18 KW diesel generator that will help charge the batteries and extend your range on the electric engines and there is what looks to be another diesel tank so you definitely have enough diesel on this boat continuing after just going to take a look at the solar up here now this is where the main solar array is and total including all of the solar you got about 6,000 Watts of solar on this boat really really cool and realistically you can actually make this boat move under its own power under just solar power that's how much solar that this boat has I love it absolutely love it and again walkable solar you can get up there you can work the main sail if you need to absolutely amazing this might be my favorite boat and I haven't even looked at all of it yet and then we're back here on the starboard sugar scoop looking at the a deck and into the main Salon again protection from the elements from the Sun the wind the rain all around and then back here look at this guys I've never seen this on a catamaran but here you have it you've got a dingy davit system that is connect connected to an AF deck so that when the dbits are out and the dingy is down that AF deck becomes even bigger so when you're at anchor you've got more space back here more room for activities and then when you're sailing your dinghy is nice and high up off the water and you've got a nice secure cockpit back here I absolutely love this this this is ingenious all right looking down into the starboard side aft compartment here youve got lots of space access to your steering water maker right there there's your 20 Kow electric 48volt DC Electric Motor direct drive as well eure 18 kilowatt diesel generator back here so lots going on but very simple safe nice system everything you need to cruise now walking all the way to the port side to look at the port side aft Locker got lots more goodies back here dive compressor port side electric motor and more equipment all right and then back here this looks like it's the winch for the dingy dab system and then now that we've seen the whole outside of the boat let's go ahead and walk right inside let's move into the main Salon that also incorporates twin Helm stations in the central SL forward section of the boat fully protected 95% of the sailing you're going to be doing right there in protection and close to the Valley close to the main salon close to this beautiful area so let's take a look now nice big Main Salon and Galley actually kind of a Nook style Galley right here you can brace I would probably add something right here just so that it you can't fall down the stairs but other than that I like it and when you're cooking when you're cutting something up you can be be right here right right next to the action so you're not isolated from the you know the Helm's person while you're making food and you can see where the boat's going you can look at your sails through that window I love it and of course everything you need all the Comforts of home right here Cold Storage induction cook top all electric everything because this is an electric boat why not sink Central to the boat nice big prep area and then just after of the galley your eating area right so you got your eating area that is kind of almost outside but still inside right and then these big windows open up as well for ventilation as you guys can see so it all opens up so in a warm tropical environment like this you can have a nice cross Breeze through and then your Helm station as well as an area to Lounge up here got storage under all of this as well storage everywhere what's in here ooh a dishwasher that I was not expecting very very nice I like that a lot again all the Comforts of home right continuing forward we're going to look at this nav station a little bit nice little nav station right it's not a forward facing nav station but you don't need one cuz you have Helm stations right you've got your Helm stations right there right where you know the perfect area to sail the boat from is so very nice um to be honest this is not even needed it's a nice little area maybe for for someone to sit but you got all this looking up here I love this favorite favorite absolutely favorite part of the boat right here you're fully protected you can see your sails from both sides right there while you're at the Helms you got all of your winches all your lines everything goes right here two Helms right two Helms redundancy a place to sit place to relax on each side it's long enough to even lay down right so you can even lay down right here everything for the boat is controlled from right here you've got your electric motor controls right there your onoff keys so it it's going to work similar to a diesel but not really CU as soon as you turn that on and as soon as you press that you've got instant torque and Instant Power love it this is your switch panel your main distribution panel you can control the lights from anywhere on the boat energy flows this is really cool so this shows you where your energy is coming from and where your energy is going right love it tankage very very cool this particular software was actually developed by Wendel the El so it's yeah it's really really cool and very specific to this boat and then again Helm stations winches lines look at this cockpit guys I want to stress like how awesome it would be to spend a passage right here sitting right here looking out forward on the boat looking at your sails right in Perfect protection obviously this right here it's open right now but it can close up this right here can close up as well right so you can actually enclose yourself even to the salon up here in this forward cockpit home station Pilot House whatever you want to call it it's kind of a hybrid of a lot of things at this point right so it is so cool and I I absolutely love this this gamechanging so yeah I mean you can go forward from here you can close it up you can close up the back section if you don't want to bother people in the salon if you're in Heavy Seas you can have that closed you can have this closed and you know you're going to have like a little bubble of protection right here that's even protecting the main Salon as well and keeping that even drier right so very very cool and that's you know that's always a criticism of these forward cockpits like this is when you're sailing in heavier Seas you're going to have some spray and some waves that could potentially come this way right so I think wind Delo thought of that here a by a good boat design would be having the ability to close all of this up and close this up right this a big boat great boat for a family and I like the fact that again this is designed to go offshore right you don't really see the sharp Corners that youve see in a lot of catamarans nowadays you've got more rounded edges right and then also also you don't have these Wide Open Spaces where you can't grab onto something right so that's again something youve see in a lot of Modern Cats you have these big wide open spaces that you know if you get into a heavy seat you're going to be falling all over the place right here you've got something to grab onto right you got things to brace against as you're you're going after and going down got handles you got things you can lean up against so this is an offshore boat anyway I think that about covers it highlight of the boat right here guys highlight of the boat and the fact that you've got instant electric power with a diesel generator backup as well as 6,000 watts of solar and just instant torque Instant Power and regen so this boat will regenerate while you're under sale you can put power back into the power banks that way just yeah I love it all right heading down into the port side Hall very very nice look at this nice and bright with these lights I apologize if there's a little flicker in the video sometimes LED lights do that on digital cameras I'm not really sure why but beautiful beautiful boat nice hanging Locker right here with access to equipment little place to sit lots of little storage shelves and cabinets all around nice little desk right here this is great if you work from home or work from your boat right and then tons of storage going forward this is a great owner's cabin right here right you know you've got everything you got your bed your desk ample clothes storage this is your dagger board case more mirrors with storage behind them oh oh look at that dedicated shoe storage very nice and then all the way forward is your master head big big separate shower your emergency escape hatch right there more mirrors nice big sink and then your head I was wondering where that was I hadn't seen it yet but very very nice nice big area I mean all the Comforts of Home down here and yep like I said all the Comforts of home you got a little washer dryer combo right there and I'll tell you what that is that is small so you're going to want to do small frequent loads but still a lot better than having to use a laundry mat that is that's for sure going back going after and we're going to go up through the main salon and down into the guest Hall I would say looking up there's another athor ship's double birth back here this one's not quite as big not quite as big of a cabin for sure but still very comfortable storage underneath as well look at this privacy and hanging Locker very very nice I certainly would not complain if this were my cabin more cold storage and a little Pantry down here and a little bar look at this little bar area oh yeah for your liquid courage some red ambient lighting right there and then aead look at that head and shower I believe continuing forward it looks like there's going to be another cabin and another head right actually no I apologize so this is the shower right here so we've got a a basically kind of a separated head set up so you've got your shower and your sink with storage right here and then after of the dagger board compartment is a head in a sink so shower in a sink head in a sink interesting interesting it's kind of nice for privacy right so very cool and then again not complaining about this forward cabin up here nice space nice space and then You' got that up there that emergency hatch you can open up you can open up that you can open that up for ventilation and hang you loer back here air conditioner I love it I love it guys great boat all right guys it's time for the full
