so i have another project this is a 25 horsepower johnson two-stroke and pretty much i got this motor for free i was buying a boat from my guy's house and i asked him what he was doing with this motor and he basically told me to take it if i had any use for it so uh here it is i was told that it was running a long time ago but this thing has been sitting in the guy's yard for years i mean there's a mold on here and it's moss i mean it really needs a good cleaning so here's the engine it's on the motor stand and this is going to be my first time actually opening up the hood uh so here we go hopefully it's pretty decent inside not all corroded oh that's actually it's pretty clean not what i expected it's actually really clean it's just really dirty but this will actually clean up really nice uh the first thing that i'm going to do is remove these spark plugs and spray some oil in there and turn it over a couple times because uh this motor was sitting for such a long time those cylinders are completely dried up so here is the bottom cylinder and it looks fine uh i don't see any rust or any water in the cylinder which is great news and uh let's just take the top one off and this one's good too all right so uh now i'm gonna spray some uh oil in there and uh we're gonna turn it over a few times so now we're going to check the spark so looks like we have no spark which actually sucks but we can't complain because like i said this motor was free so what do you expect i'm gonna disconnect the kill switch system and maybe there's a problem with the kill switch if i disconnect this this would disable the kill switch and if the kill switch is bad it should spark right now no spark so i'm going to be checking the grounds let's see if maybe that could be the culprit of why it won't spark so here is the ground wire that i have to be mainly looking at and look at this what i found i mean it's in really bad condition i don't even think the wires are even connected in there so what i'm going to do is i'm going to splice this get a new connector on here and hope for the best now we're going to assemble it and hopefully uh it will spark right now so now i'm gonna check spark and uh let's pray that we have spark oh yeah look we have spark i know you can't see it in camera uh but there's actually spark uh let's connect our kill switch to make sure that works um so if it's sparking right now we have a working kill switch and if it's not sparking then we have a faulty kill switch so let's check it out nope no spark so i'm gonna go ahead and remove this carb and we're gonna take it apart and clean whatever gunk is inside there she is really easy to take these carbs off looks pretty clean so i was surprised when i took this carburetor off how clean it was and how long that motor was sitting i mean this carburetor didn't even really need a cleaning i did clean it uh so uh we're gonna put it back on and we'll see if this motor will fire up so this is the first time that we're gonna start this motor um it should start we have spark as long as the compression is good the motor will be a good running engine so let's give it a try look how nice this motor is running i mean it runs like a new motor almost it's running super smooth look at this i mean shifting gear nice forward neutral reverse i mean it's just a little dirty so i'm going to go ahead and i'm going to run a compression check i'm going to be doing the top cylinder first and uh let's see where it's at and it looks like we're at 110 uh pretty much like 119. and the bottom cylinder reads uh 115 psi which is good so what i'm going to do now is i'm going to wash the motor off i think my plan is i'm just going to throw a couple cans on here from home depot you know nothing special nothing professional just you know make this thing look a lot better than what it is i'm gonna get my electric pressure pressure washer out that is a westinghouse's uh washer if you guys are interested in that i think it's like 130 bucks it's not bad i would say the pressure is equivalent to a self-service car wash um you know it'll take the stuff right off it's not a problem but if you're looking for bigger jobs i would not recommend that it's a nice little thing to clean stuff up you know but [Music] so what i'm doing now is i'm actually uh wet sanding it i'm getting it ready to be painted i'm getting a used kill switch assembly gonna fully surface this engine maybe decals i don't know it depends when i could get them in the mail i might do that but uh it should come out pretty good so what i'm going to do is i'm going to put a new impeller in this lower unit new gear fluid and new spark plugs like i said this thing has been sitting it is peeing pretty good but it's better off just to put a new impeller it's not hard so let's get to that so we're going to go ahead and put our new plugs in it's really easy to do this so we're going to do spark plug change as our first step and get our new plugs in so the person who sells me used parts did not have a working kill switch so this is something that i have to order brand new but for this video uh we're not gonna replace that right now i'm gonna go ahead and move on to the lower unit so i'm gonna go ahead and take my drain screw off and as you can see the gear fluid is not milky by any means and this is a good indication that our seals in the lower unit are still good and the bottom one just like that just gotta pry it up a little bit there we go there she is and here's the difference between a used impeller and a brand new impeller so as you can see i started the motor up to make sure before i paint it that it's running good we have good water flow everything's working great and we're ready to move on to get the motor painted so have the prop hanging i'm just gonna do a light coat then i'm gonna go over it again with another light coat and it should come out looking pretty good i'm using uh just gloss enamel rust-oleum brand so here's a hood i have the gasket all taped off i'm going to be using rust-oleum uh gloss enamel this is the turbo can works pretty good i understand uh i should be painting this a completely different way but this is just a quick easy paint job you know it probably won't last long but you know it it's better than what it's on the motor so far so let's uh give this a quick little coat what i'm going to do now is i'm going to paint the area where uh the motor clamps onto the transom because i want it to be painted painted in here and if it's on the stand you can't really get in there so i lay the motor down on the grass and after i get this area painted i'm gonna put it back on the stand and i'm gonna fully paint the whole engine so just finished painting the motor and now i'm just going to remove the tape and uh i'm gonna wait for it to dry some more and tomorrow i'm gonna put the uh decals on the hood so now i'm going to be installing my decals now my engine is in 1990 and these decals are for a little bit older engine but i like the look of these rather than putting the newer style decals on so i went with these so there we go man this hood looks so much better with these stickers on so i'm finally done with the install of the decals on the hood and they come out looking really good a lot better than you know what it looked like before which you know was my overall goal and now now i'm going to move on to the motor and there's a few stickers that i have to install on there so now i'm putting the decals on the engine i put the decal that goes back here i have a little uh sticker that says latch unlatch with the arrow on it i'm going to put that over here and then i have a sticker that is a long stripe and that will go right over here and it will wrap around the midsection pretty easy to to put it on and she's completely on so here's the engine i got it mounted on the boat and i mean this thing looks sweet i mean this thing came out looking pretty good if you guys were wondering uh between the stickers this the whole decal set was 60 bucks paint uh 20 25 bucks and i mean look at that you could pick these things up pretty cheap online and it doesn't take much to turn them into a really nice engine and i mean she runs really good check this out pumping good water such a great running engine so the motor's been running here for about five minutes and uh it still hasn't died i think we got herself a good motor here and we'll see uh what she'll do out here so i just threw the anchor in and i'm gonna go sewing for a little bit just want to show you guys the motor i mean this thing runs so well looks great and runs great can't complain for a free motor and throwing some paint on there and just doing a quick service and this thing pretty much starts first full check this out so just pull the anchor up and i'm gonna start heading in time to go in and move on to the next project and we're back at the boat ramp motor ramp perfect it's just time to go in so just got the boat out of the water and uh it's a wrap for this project i mean check this thing out once again got this thing for free paint decals little service and she's on the water and it's not hard to you know paint and put decals on and you can get these motors pretty cheap online a lot of times people just leave them on the ground you know in their garage a lot of times they're faded and you can bring it back to life so if you enjoy my videos please subscribe and give this video a thumbs up and thanks for watching [Music] so so [Music] you
