WILL IT START? 1981 Kenworth Semi truck

welcome back to the channel guys for another will it start video we are next to a noisy road trying to kind of deal with that for a little bit but boy do we have a freaking awesome one for you we've been trying to bring some really sweet will it starts and today we've got a 19 old kenworth w900 so uh we're going to be trying to get this thing crunk i got me my sweet straw hat today from fast fuel systems hopefully it's going to keep us cool but this belongs to mr ricky williams this was his old logging truck when he used to log and uh they quit logging about 15 20 years ago and it's just been parked ever since a lot of history behind this truck it was originally owned by cummins out of tampa and then it was sold to um cummins used it for making their deliveries things like that and then mr williams bought it so we're gonna see if we can revive this truck and uh get it running and moving again should be fun it is blue we love the color blue real quick before we get into today's video what we got to work with underneath the hood see the battery box right there on the side we'll get our battery situation figured out and i will get the door opened up i'm gonna check the hood latch on this side of the truck it's already open waiting on something to crawl out and get me hopefully the hood is okay i remember on these trucks the hoods are fiberglass too they're not like aluminum like the peterbilts are yikes that definitely has a big cam big kim cummins in it big cam 350 i think is what mr williams had mentioned so uh all right hood's open it's got an engine in it so we're off to a good start there let's check into your uh door here oof it's got some keys in it man could you imagine if the windows have been rolled up when this thing was parked if it would have definitely would have saved a lot of uh stuff from getting inside of it should we start out with the vines on it still yeah me too that's what i'm thinking i should have wore jeans i'm already feeling that i'm gonna my legs are gonna be hating me later oh yeah alrighty all right let's find our batteries in here hopefully none of this is vines or like the stuff i don't want to get torn up by okay no batteries that's good looking at the battery box it's a 12-volt system and it needs four batteries but i think we can get away with just using one really big one and one small normal size one there are lots of battery cables in here that's for sure all right [Music] we need to remember to put [Music] battery cable cleaner or wire brushes on our on our order on our to-go list this looks right here looks like some kind of a solenoid something there there's a positive or negative i'm not sure probably the positive i'm sure let's see if we got any key action hey it's good sign we got one battery put in there we'll uh get that one tightened down a little bit and then we'll get another battery set in there we're gonna check our fluids things like that and see if she'll see if she'll cheat it's a big cam i'm sure it will they always freaking run so something i want to mention is how heavy this freaking battery is going dang it lord oh boy all right hmm think we need all these wires to be hooked up this thing is not going to like how all these connections are absolutely terrible i already already knew it i already know it let me go find a hammer so we got our batteries set in there kind of gonna now it is florida and it is 100 degrees out and it is prone to snakes right here so we are taking kind of gonna take it easy a little bit here without getting bit by something going through all this risking getting snake bit to check oil for you folks and this here rig well it's got it on the dipstick that means it's got some in it and we don't particularly need to wipe it and then check it again because this engine hasn't been running and who knows how long so should be good to go next thing up i want to check is the uh fuel make sure it's got some gas in it sounds a little hollow down in there let's find a stick to stick down in there clean it off good no one around here around all these other equipment they may have funneled the fuel out oh does it smell good doesn't it taste good yup tastes like diesel as peg would say let's see if this thing will cheat our batteries are probably going to get really pissed off and oop there is a wasp nest around here somewhere get out of here where'd that wasp just go i'm gonna get bit by the end of the day i can see it now it's definitely gonna happen hop up in here make sure it's out of gear it's even got a little ether button from back in the day yep sparkage which one [Music] the ground we need the ground i guess that might help huh well see that means this ground ain't working like it should if there's no hmm those right there must go to something else [Music] i'm not sure [Music] all right so she spins over i wonder what's clicking over here and why do these batteries not have power let me get my test light so i'm gonna do now is we know we've got power coming out of this battery but obviously it doesn't have juice to crank this thing so figure out why even though this battery's hooked up to cables why there's nothing going on here well there's power there so i know that ground's working i bet that ground right there is what's not working oh yeah it's working too i wonder if there is a sometimes you hit a certain button it helps it start faster because i don't think these are 24 volt trucks which one smoked a little bit that time we're at oh it's smoked up here like that right there needs to be hooked up maybe yeah but it does got another set of vice grips okay it's ain't spinning over at all now is it i wonder if this is a 24 volt system but it doesn't make sense because this is all hooked in a series no that wouldn't be how it is all right so we got it hooked up to 24 volt if anything happens we can just come over here and pop on his vice grips loose and cut it off buzzer's probably going crazy now [Music] doing something [Music] is it smoking [Music] there it is come on baby come on he's trying to stall out hell yeah come on all right so we're gonna hop in here start it back up see if she's got oil pressure maybe see if it'll build it now it's hot see if it'll build air pressure [Music] all the gauges are just oh we got oil pressure we got 40 pounds see if she'll start building some air pressure all right folks we had to switch phones and my other iphone started overheating but we got oil pressure right here good 40 pounds of pressure for our air gauges this manifold well she's definitely not charging should have her air gauge somewhere right here ah i can't tell she's building any air or not let's rev it up just a tick [Music] that's slowly climbing we might be able to get this thing to move yeah it's got an air leak somewhere a really good air leak so let's set my throttle hold stick probably a little bit of a high idle out of it let it build some air pressure [Music] uh so far i don't think it's going to build air pressure it's got too much of an exhaust leak i'm sorry air leak on it something i do really want to point out which is extremely rare extremely rare is this thing has torsion bar rear suspension not airbag not spring torsion bar we'll rip some vines off i'll show you all that in a second the brakes are finally bleeding out enough we might be able to get a move we'll see even if even if it's only five feet it still moves you get a strap all right it's go time [Music] and our clutch is stuck uh-oh it released [Music] it's in gear is it moving feels like something moving so guys i talked to mr williams he said maybe we can get it to move so he aired the front right tire up on it it was flat um i got it started back up i did find the switch for the air locker um if not they've got a little wheel loader to try to push it we're gonna move it somewhere they want to move it to i don't know if power steer is working or not let's see if i can get it to move again gotta air the uh get the tanks air up some more though out of here [Music] hey almost [Music] [Music] [Music] hey look his train chained to it all right let's try it again [Music] [Music] you got a wheel locked up you got a hammer [Music] [Music] [Music] the problem we're having right now is the brake drum seized and that front right drive axle brake drum just seized up all right let's try it again oh yeah there we go i'll probably unhook the chain yeehaw it's so much fun seeing these things actually move getting them started is cool but pulling them away from their grave he's even better all right so we're gonna pull it around there next to their barn where they can actually work on it and maybe get it sold or do whatever they're gonna do i need to pull these vines down first maybe not i'm just going to leave them we need to get some vine snippers like garden snips [Music] it's alive oh i'm gonna make this turn or not right here this is sharp [Music] can't good old revival like this it's been a minute i can't i just at all i can't believe it moved i don't think i need some h2o okay guys so i'm going to explain to you what these torsion bars are basically instead of having leaf springs that are like a u or having a airbag that's full of air these trucks have a torsion bar and it's very similar to like your newer style pickups that have independence um front suspension things like that and this was supposed to be like the new age thing but it never really panned out um these bars are basically tightened on one side and loose on the other so when it's bouncing down the rods are twisting like this to kind of give it that suspension but a very cool little truck very cool piece of history i hope you guys enjoyed our will it start
