hey there boys and girls YouTube world today the dove dog and I see if we can't get this Marketplace find GMC Advanced design back on the road for the first time since somebody took it apart the last time we're out here at Grumpy's place in the suburbs of keen North Dakota I know that's like mud butt or Eagle butt or bear butt or something and then there's all these guys little donkeys huh nobody wants to talk all the hay burners and then we got grumpy shed so grumpy I don't even know if he's a Palam mine he's uh one of my old co-workers brother-in-laws we've been coming out here for a while we got the 84 Chevy K20 from him a buddy of mine way out in the opposite corner of the state neighbor had this thing allegedly the clutch went out Hired Man smoked it we did get the clutch out but she's uh Bluer Than a Smurf as these kids would say any who he's got a real sweet CD player changer here in the barn and we sent him to go look at a truck for us and it's it's not in his barn so now I guess I guess we have to find this thing uh I saw this thing on Marketplace project 47 to 53 GM C had a title looked like it was sitting real low looked like it had a small block Chevy in it and that was about it said it was her ex-husband's it needed to go didn't know a lot about it so I sent him sent it to him and he said yeah I saw that and he went and looked and they struck a deal he messed me back said the transmission's missing it's on a looks like an S10 chassis he said it's got a TBI small block in it said the steering sucked up brakes hooked up so I thought doesn't need much more to get it on the road and I was like w why is the transmission missing and uh he brought it home and he like yeah I was on the trailer and I looked and and it's got a transmission so any we better get a hold of grumpy and find out where this thing's at we got the new is tow pig out here you know it's a 13 it's only 10 years old with 220,000 Mi on the 22t Tilt bed so it'll be easy to get on the trailer if we can find it what's your guys's name if I stand over here by the fence will you come over so I can pet you or don't horses do that how do you how do you call a horse don't you click nope guess not what about you Max you just over there eating frozen horse turds sniffing them out yeah find the good one yeah find the fresh ones that are still steaming M all right well let's go find a pickup Max where's how did you just leap through that thing You' done that before huh You' done that before he's a silly boy hey get yourself a beanie cap at morsky we just got them fresh in stock they're great in this type of weather they're fleeced they're comfy they're stylish we got everything else too we got uh magnetic screwdrivers can coozies banners you name it morsky tell them Max I guess old Max wants to ride on the trailer you should probably jump off of there old boy we're going to start moving oh he don't care he's just hanging on I tell you what should have brought Duff with you would enjoyed this still just hanging out there oh I tell you what it's hard to beat a lab but they're special oh there it is found it chrome grill even think it's a gy oh Max he going to ride on the trailer right up to the pickup Max you could have guided me a little bit we missed it by about 3 fet hold on let me put her in four dig blue is just hanging out for the side looking for a CO the tree cut her back to the passenger side Max says all right real good real good what do you think about this thing H Blue Max you did an amazing job of helping me back up the trailer couldn't have done it without you you're you're a professional you're a gentleman and a scholar so here it is it's got some pretty nice patina looks like somebody's been those are grinder marks so it's kind of fake the door's been sprung around and somebody was going to do some body work so they put some screws in there and tried pulling it out running boards ain't all rusty there's a little uh support underneath there that they usually get rotten like I said you could tell it's been lowered it's got five lug wheels these things should be six lug but you can convert them to five lug by putting car hubs on it but you tell it's way lower than a stock straight axle apparently that window's busted uh 54 they went to the one piece windshield so we know it's earlier than that chrome grill was an option the grills on the GMC's I'm pretty sure stayed the same kind of like the Chevys I guess sealed beam headlights that should have been Factory Ultra Wheels I'm guessing they're 15 yep 25705 uh the later pickups had the wing windows I believe at 51 and then there's something about with the door handle so I think it's 51 to 53 um push button door handles were the later ones earlier ones had the swing down door handle and the Springs are always broken instead of sitting like this they sag like this and then I think the early ones had the fuel tank like my 47 has a fuel filler back there it's a five window so that's a plus for resale got a few hoies up there I don't know who that boxing skunk with lightning bolt stowing on his chest is but he's pretty happy Bluetooth drive shaft looks like the rear end needs to be adjusted she's kind of pointed up looks like some Ray Charles welding going on on them uh spring mounts you got the right one baby these S10 axles are too narrow so they had to cut out the box a little bit but we can either space it out or find the right rear end is probably what we'll try to do and then we don't have to do that or you can Notch it out and then just put some in your wheel tubs I think he said the tailgate was there I hope it is I hope that's the right drive shaft but we got drive shafts around looks like the bed needs to be mounted yet now there's a couple of bolts up there probably going to want to throw a strap on it the tires are used but they look pretty good uh the other thing guys will put four-wheel drive rear ends in them and they're a little bit wider oh it's not a full S10 frame that's a stock is that a stock frame where's the fuel Fu tank I thought there was a fuel tank I'm pretty sure that's yeah the grease SS that's the uh original truck frame so it's been grafted o I can see where it spliced right up there you can see the S10 frame must be wider main thing I asked him about was uh is the steering and pedals hooked up seems like guys get that far they get the cab set on they get all excited and then the hard work starts with the steering column and the brake pedals and then they quit so there's the ECU for the TBI it looks like this is the S10 seat the S10 must have been a manual because it's got the little right there for the uh key lockout thinger looks like somebody painted the inside here must have I don't know new carpet well there's our uh TBI intake and uh throttle body and such these must be some running board brackets I guess they had to cut those off no battery because there is now an S10 frame in the way also looks like it's got a tubular transmission cross member hopefully she's an overdrive painted the inside of that door not this door these things are notorious for rusting right in here and then the bottoms of the doors so check those out and the door latches have always sucked but the first spot they get it is right there and then the doors will get sprung and wrapped around and it'll crease this area has shown on the other side see if we can get the hood open Max Blue you guys know how to open a hood I guess we'll do it ourselves without Duff here oh man they busted the light out throwing all that mud all over it where's the handle Pig pin jiggle it oh an electric fan just jiggle it yay somebody's modified the hood latch here up appears maybe we won't get the hood open until we get home all right it looks like they extended the lever to do something on the hood latch and they didn't do a good job of it something might be out of adjustment a blue so I don't think we're going to get the hood open we'll wait till we get home anyway and there's nothing we're going to do here cuz grumpy doesn't have anything but fencing Tools around here cuz he's a big cowboy and uh not much for parts either so we'll just have to wait till we get it home and if we do get the hood open uh Chan are we won't get it latched again and we don't want that doy there so let's get this thing loaded on the trailer oh you are a slobber son of a gun yeah S10 swaps not my favorite they're too narrow as you can see how far that wheel is in there front and rear steering box gets into the radiator I I'll just talk about all that stuff later why I don't like S10 swaps because really what do I like good deals that's what I like this is a good deal so far well other than the hood thing dang go-kart of the kids is out back broke down probably because they put that morsky repair decle on the front of it hopefully the starter is still [Music] good [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right we got it loaded up we're headed for uh the flat lands see you later Max and grumpy and blue in your sweet limo with the horns on the hood just in time the boss man's showing up all right let's get home show our new prize to duff get to work oh we made her back home late last night but not incident free it's a little chilly and Breezy so we're going to make this quick so we're coming down the road in the old topeg going down I94 and uh saw a deer across the road so everybody kind of tapped their brakes in the eastbound Lane he ran over the westbound Lane and thought that was a bad idea and by then it was too late and he came running back at me I couldn't swerve over cuz there was a minivan he stopped to see if everything was okay afterwards but anyway this thing came at me and she uh she he he had horns got the side of the trailer but the old uh H&H trailer held up quite well but uh a lot of hair and feal matter there there was a whole bunch of blood up the fender and we got a little feal matter on our GMC this running board was hanging in just fine up until then but it looks like our must have been a screw up there or something hold in place so we're going to have to tie that up and we'll get this thing unloaded but I wanted to show you just how good these HP it's not an h HP trailers are just a little whammy there in the uh White bracket holder and I think that was actually there but yeah I could feel the trailer shimy sideways yeah he's uh no longer with us rip Mr deer so let's get this thing unloaded and go inside where it's nice and warm so we're back at the shop pick this thing up from old grumpies we got her in we got her thought out after the old ice storm that we had here over Christmas break I got the hood open last night took us a couple sandwiches it's a terrible design needs some adjustment so we'll do a little tweaking on that but let's take a look at this thing and a couple things we're going to want to look for so two things that are are huge in my book steering and suspension and brakes you if your engine doesn't run you're fine you're just you're just going to have a bad day if your uh steering column snaps off you're going to have a really bad day you might get severely injured or worse and you might hurt somebody else same thing with brakes steering suspension brakes take care of those things I don't care how much horsepower you got you can have a Briggs and scrap iron underneath the hood and you'll be fine if you got steering and brakes wiring you you're probably going to be on the side of the road worst case scenario it it lights on fire and burns your entire house down you don't want that either but wiring is kind of important but it's it's not going to injure anybody else but steering and brakes and I could tell this thing in the pictures that it had something going on underneath some type of subframe or chassis swap or I mean ideally I think you get a Mustang to setup for these things they bolt right in everything's new you got all kinds of aftermarket sport they're good to go but and the most common thing for the S10 swaps if you got a regular cab short box which is a long box you would get an S10 that's a regular Cal long box and they'll fit right underneath these things with a little bit of work uh but there's a lot of ways to skin a cat so let's take a look at this thing and see how they did and then we'll fix anything that we find maybe we'll learn a few new things about what to do what not to do but let's get that hood open first and take a look underneath the hood like I said I had grumpy go look at this thing he's uh he's fairly knowledgeable but he's a cowboy and he works in the oil fields nothing against either of the above but he's uh he's not a you know established Ace hack mechanic like DD Speed Shop or anything so he got pretty much the just of it but there's a few things that I'm guessing he overlooked or didn't know what he was looking at so kind of bought this thing sight on scene we had four pictures I said looks like it's got a chassis swap it's got a drivetrain in it it's got a title all that good stuff he said Yep looks good so here we are do TR getting this hood open last night but and here's the deal somebody must painted this freshly it looks like but the lever is flat strap and it dips down and then goes sideways and you're supposed to pull it sideways well it doesn't I don't know it binds and it needs a shorter lever and needs some redesign needs some some bracing and whatnot we'll take care of that so first thing we notice is new hardware up here so somebody been in here which if they did a chassis swap obviously you're going to have the front end off or that's the way I would do it why would you work around fenders uh brand new aluminum aftermarket radiator looks like it's set up for a small block and so here's the first thing that I don't like about these S10s you can see the steering shaft running through our glorious headers over there oh no well while we're talking about steering shafts we'll get right in there forget about the yellow Excel plug wires with the red boots this is like a double D shaft steering shaft and it should slide in and out in case you're an impact it doesn't shove the steering wheel through your chest so like I said that thing's supposed to slide and you can see they welded it which is a no no and then it also looks like it's been machined so I don't know what's going on there so we're going to want to address that that's our first thing to change the other thing is the master cylinder's on the firewall it's fine it's easy to service that's where they are on all these late models but these firewalls on these pickups or any vehicle is just pretty much stamp steel there's a couple ribs for rigidity in there they're not structurally strong enough to hold the booster and brake pedal and master cylinder over a course of time they're going to crack out the the OEM ones like 67 to 72 Chevy pickups they would actually crack out on the spot welds but look at this there's no bracing inside the cab I can already and that's not just up and down that's left and right that's just mounted to sheet metal that's not good you can't have that you can do this but you got to do bracing inside the cab to tie it to the dash to the uh steering column that's how they did from the basically that's all they are from the factory when they are on the firewall is there's a brace that goes to the dash from the brake pedal and then that ties the steering column at triangulates it it stiffens it way up so we're going to end up doing that so there you go right off the bat the two things I tell you to check steering suspension and brakes we already got to beef up the brake mount for the for the pedal assembly and we got to do something with the sliding shaft and the steering cuz we can't have that I don't know what they got going on behind that weld I don't know who welded it I don't know good that weld is so that shaft has got to go if you lose your wiring you just Coast to the side of the road you lose your steering what do you do you panic oh my God a if you lose your brake same deal I've been there in both actions in a in a control environment of course but uh the pucker Factor real high so like I said uh the steering box before I was interrupted by that terrible steering shaft on these pickups sits right about here the original steering boxes on these pickups is back here but the S10 sits up here so you have to cut up the core support which I don't which is why the biggest thing I don't like the S10 swaps cuz you have to cut up this core support which that core support is a major structure not only does it hold the whole front end it ties everything together then holds your radiator as well you see what they got going on here the radiator should sit vertical they've already cut out this core support should be like a giant c channel they cut all that structure out of there they did a pretty good job but the radiator shouldn't be sitting at an angle like that it's it's probably not going to hurt it but you can see that they bent the bracket to get it to fit in there there on a brand new nice expensive aluminum radiator they got must have an electric fan oh yeah they got an electric fan up here there you can see the electric fan oh and it's held in by mechanics wire I'm sure that's fine and I'm sure it's fan that's not big enough to push enough air to cool this thing so it's another thing you know I don't like electric fans they they got to be wired properly which apparently is really hard because a lot of people can't seem to do it and they just don't move the air that a mechanical fan does if you're making big horsepower and trying to save some horsepower you know go drag race over by all means put an electric fan on it but if you're driving up and down the street I'm get this is a TBI 87 to 95 Chevrolet engine all those things came with mechanical fans and they work just fine and they cost you literally nothing so that's what I would go with so back to the TBI and the fan everything it's got a serpentine setup so like I said this is probably an 87 to 95 most likely I would say this is out of an 88 to 95 Chevrolet two wheel drive pickup but it could have been like in a Caprice or a van or something like that but anyway uh looks like they're missing they took the air conditioning stuff off of it it looks like they left the stock harness for whatever it came out of in here yep that's definitely late model harness so they left the light harness so hopefully we can modify all that I'm not against using OEM harnesses they're better than most of the stuff that anybody's going to deser design in their garage so I think what we're going to do here uh since they don't have the AC compressor on there we' have to reconfigure the belt setup and this is a long water pump so I think what we're going to do is take all this off and we'll put a short water pump setup on it and hopefully hopefully we can get ourselves a fan on here a mechanical fan so that's another advantage to save yourself some room is get rid of the long water pump stuff short water pump stuff will bolt rate on it it uh gains you some room we will have to rewire our alternator cuz I'm guessing or maybe we can put this alternator no we can't with the belt we're just going to we'll just put a onewire style alternator or just a standard GM V belt alternator uh I do like or serpentines are a little bit better but nothing wrong with the v- belt so we'll get some brackets for an alternator and some pulley and a fan and hopefully we can clear all that otherwise we're going to have to do a little reconfiguring to move that radiator or something but I refuse refused to run an electric fan Reggie my 47 Chevy has got the same setup small block Chevy stock radiator and that's got a mechanical fan so we should be able to make this work one way or another we may have to slide the engine back speaking of that I like to have the engine slid back as far as I can cuz there's really no reason as long as you can get the distributor in and out and maybe get at the top bolts on the bell housing you should be fine so I mean we got Shee a solid 6 or seven in back there that we can go back it looks like they got the s10 swap engine mounts because the S10s never came with them so it kind or something going on down there looks like they got a s10 swap engine mounts it almost looks like an aftermarket stamped steel oil pan and then they got the S10 headers again I don't hate headers uh especially when they fit your application it looks like they fit this really well the steering shaft goes through there looks like they're going to clear the frame we'll take a look when we get her up in the air and we're going to have to fix that wire on the alternator uh I got to do radiator hoses uh it is a throttle body looks like they got to do this is should be your TV cable for the 700 R4 looks like they got to do a throttle cable yet they used the stock harness off of like whatever it came out of it looks like they actually used the stock GM bulkhead connectors it's kind of crude but those are really good connectors they did the same thing over here on the passenger side nothing wrong with that they use the uh stock relays mounted them with the firewall I don't see anything wrong with all that stuff and if you take it off out of a vehicle that was running and driving and you put it all straight back in here it might be crude it might be ugly but it's going to work and a lot of these pickups got 3 400,000 miles on them so it should be fine and do I love the TBI setup no but it's fuel injected so you just get in there you hit the key go does it make big Power no can you increase the horsepower maybe a little bit but there's not a lot of options there not a lot of support but you can always pull it out in uh carburated engine will bolt rate in or an LSD bolt rate in too but I like these cuz they already got the overdrive behind them they got the computer to control the overdrive they just start turn the key go if you got a young kid learning how to drive or you know your wife is not a car person doesn't like pumping the old quadri jet if you know what I mean she can get in turn the key go and what would really be awesome as we uh get a remote start on this thing hook the heater up I see the heater hoses aren't hooked up but there is heater hoses coming through the firewall we could just uh be drinking our coffee in the morning lean over from the kitchen table Bo our t in our GMC Advanced design pickups running in the driveway but the disadvantage of that you got to have a I don't even know if they call them a high pressure fuel pump you got to have a a fuel pump that does you know more than single digit fuel pressure I don't know what these things are 25 30 something like that not as high as like an LS looks like there's some uh vacuum hoses we need to hook up wonder what one goes there we got a few OBS Chevy pickups in the back that we can look at to see uh what we got to do there definitely not out of a van the dip stick isn't long enough so like I said probably two little D Chevy pickup so that's what's going on underneath the hood I don't think there's really anything over here on the passenger side oh battery cables so the battery on these things originally is underneath the floor on the passenger side and I remember when we looked at grumpies the frame rail is in the way so we're going to have to find a spot for the battery there isn't really any room under here we could hang it off the firewall but then you get into the heater hoses and they got these connectors going through there so this we could put it in the bed I don't really like doing that but again I like keeping stuff stock underneath the floor is an ideal to get at but it's out of the way dang would you look at that freaking headman headers made in USA nothing but the finest we got headers yellow plug wires red boots this thing's going to be real fast until we get her going we get the heater hooked up we're going to have to plug those heater hoses coming off the factory stuff one thing I do like like about the TBI is they got that small cap they don't have the ginormous hii cap that GM had in the 70s and the 80s any who supp there's oil in the dipstick Jimmy a dipstick yep brand new clean stuff ain't even been fired and it's full so far so good everything under the hood looks pretty good like I said that steering shaft we got to address that and the brake pedal we got to address that um both of those not big deals uh you can get those Double D shafts you get slider shafts you can get I did it or different brands of of Knuckles that go right on the steering box the GM one I think it's like a 3/4 inch 36 spine something like that don't quote me on that but you can buy all kinds of different Knuckles that go right on those that adapt to a d shaft that'll adapt to that steering column that's inside I really don't like those stock steering columns but I'm guessing this one's wired in already so uh maybe we'll just leave it but and we'll order some parts longterm If This Were Mine I would put either an aftermarket steering column in it that looked a little bit cleaner or put a stock steering tube in there and then just put an aftermarket blinker switch put the key back in the dash and then put like a low car floor shift in there but you guys know me I'm not a big floor shifter fanatic so hopefully this has got the column shift on it you could probably tell that by looking underneath the hood but we can utilize that if I have to put a floor shifter and use this ugly hideous GM column with the ignition switch on we're going to find a different GM column with a shifter on it uh yep there's the bottom of the column no shifter so looks like it's a manual column so yeah I don't don't like that but we can make it work let's get this thing lifted up in the air let's see what they got going on underneath all right let's take a look at the bottom side of this thing some other things I don't like the S10s is they're too narrow for these pickups so in my opinion you can't use the rear end which we already can tell is what we got going on there and in the front you got to use some weird offset wheels and then the other thing is you got to make body mounts for all of the body mounts and then the running board mounts I can tell you that those are already missing just from loading it and standing on it so that's a lot of stuff you got to make where if you put like a Mustang two front end in it or any type of aftermarket front end you just pull the old front end out put this new front end into the frame and you don't have to mess with body mounts cuz uh that's the other thing you don't want failing is a body mount cuz if that body mount fails then uh it's going to screwing up the geometry on your steering and your brake pedals and all that cuz all that stuff's mounted the cab so the cab drops down bad things happen so let's get after it so if this were mine I would definitely clean up the ends of these frame rails and then put a bumper on it to kind of conceal all that can't tell if they cut that out there's a couple hoies on here that's easily repairable cooler lines just hanging here so we got to hook those up to the radiator which it looks like it's got the uh ports for it so that's good here's our electric fan wiring Gate City radiator I think uh I looked those guys up and they are in Glend dive Montana so should be an americanmade radiator so that's pretty good here's our front clip body mounts I kind of dig this bracket that they got going on here it looks like they got a spring in between there so that absorbs the compression going up and down but there should be a spring on this bottom side so when uh things got to go up it can go that way otherwise the spring is only working in One Direction so when you when you do a body mount look at OEM body mounts either on this pickup or the S10 and use kind of follow after those there should be a rubber mount on the top and the bottom or a spring on the top and the bottom in this case so that things can go up and down not just down looks like they use the old mechanics wire to tie the fan to the body mount the only thing I don't like about that body mount looks like they just made it out of angle iron and then they just got it bolted in single Shear to sheet metal so yeah I don't really like that 35/16 bolt holding the entire front end of your pickup well six three on the other side not exactly ideal so this right here is is the biggest thing that I don't like about these chassis swaps you can see that c channel up there that's your core support that should wrap down here come across the other side and tie to that side you can see where they cut it off right there that's where your structure is at and that's what they should have tied that body mount to cuz that's what that's designed to do is hold that or they should have remade it so that it wrapped around underneath here but that steering box screws that whole front end up on these things and you can't have this whole front end hanging on single shear and 35/16 bolts I am sorry so uh long term we got to redo something that there so we got to do a lot up here already we got to cap these off we got to redo the body mounts we got to tie the core support together we got to put a bumper on it we got to do uh transmission cooler hoses the silly Cowboy tow strap has been bothering me since we loaded it up so let's get rid of that nice part about the S10s uh they're proven to work they're from a pickup that's probably about the same weight as this why is all this is that a mouse house up there I would guess so don't know El oh yeah that's definitely Mouse house uh but you can buy all this stuff at a Part Store uh Mustang to setup you don't know what kind of ball joints they're running what kind of tie rod ends all that good stuff so uh that is the nice part about S10 the bad part about the S10 is all this stuff is now you know 30 to uh 40 years old and the it's got 200,000 Mi on it so if you think you're going to B bolt one of these things in and run it you might be okay but a lot of this stuff is going to be worn out case in point look at how crack this boot is this is Rusty oh yep our sway bar end link is busted on both sides you you're going to probably want to put all new brakes hoses wheel seals all that stuff in there uh the nice thing is you can it's got a 43 car bolt pattern so you can put about any wheel you want on it uh you could probably get drop spindles you can probably get bigger brakes all that stuff speaking of oh it turns okay I was going to say this thing kind of rolled in hard there's that red oil pan I was talking about looks like it's a fabricated what does it say on the side hamburger oil pans I didn't know those guys still existed they've been around since I was a kid so I'm guessing that's a V8 swap S10 oil man it looks like we got room to go forward which Speaking of going forward I don't know if that's from a chain yeah yeah it's seing from a chain somebody threw a chain around that which I always chain around the control arms cuz if you chain around here it can bounce up and down and your chain gets slack and taut but yeah they Kink that brake line so there again first time you hit the brakes you're going to push fluid over here apply the brakes and that fluid is not going to be able to return so that wheel is going to be dragging so we need to fix that Gabriel gas shocks from uh old Car Quest we needed a little painting on here you know CU When you do a front end swap you want to paint her all up fresh oil filter to go with that oil change oh it's the cheap Nappa the pro select all right but not only can we go forward looks like we got I mean obviously we can go backwards we might have to trim the toe Boards out a little bit looks like the transmission is just about touching the toe boards but again not a big deal cuz there's a bolt-in plate right there in the center this is a 700 R4 I can tell by the shape of the oil pan obviously we got to hook up our shift linkage we're missing the cover here but it looks like it's all bolted up they bought an aftermarket transmission crossmember here they failed to put both bolts in it oh that's why it looks like it was supposed to set up here for maybe you know like a turbo 350 and this 700's longer so they had to drill oh they they didn't have to drill there was an existing hole there but let's put another bolt there was probably supposed to go in these holes but they drilled a couple got them back there pretty nice piece what is going on with that rubber mount looks like they took the rubber out of that mount and just oh oh they put like a piece of bike inner tube in there just a little chunk of rubber so we got to put a mount on there I wonder if it's cuz it's hitting the floor and with a regular Mount they couldn't get it in there so instead of moving this down or modifying this yeah so we're going to put a regular mount on there at some point and then we'll have to probably move this plate down for clearance so again not the end of the world but you don't want your transmission solid mountain look how that bolt sitting all CAD Wampus I don't know what they got going on there sketchy though looks like all the wiring still hooked up on the transmission that's good uh this is not going to have a mechanical Speedo so we can't use a stock Speedo without some type of adapter so I would suggest getting some type of aftermarket gauges to use the new speedo and plus these old gauges just take a lot of work to get to work cab mounts well let's talk about running board mounts or lack thereof they should have bolted on there there and there looks like this back one would be fine but these front ones because they use the S10 frame no longer exist body mounts this is the Mount at the firewall and I would say that that's a 2x4 but I think it's ply some type of plastic so there again that mount only got some rubber above it yeah so I mean that mount can collapse but there's nothing that lets it go the other direction so poor design looks like they just used the existing or the original Advanced design Mount and then just I was going to say spot welded to the frame but I don't see any welds there's a 38 bolt going through it oh they got her bolted there and then welded it obviously they shortened them up so so like I was saying if you did a Mustang 2 swap it would just bolt on right up here weld up here and you wouldn't need to modify these so I don't know what we're going to do there but we got to do something I know there's companies that make cab mount kits for these S10 swaps I'm not familiar with them though but it's got to be better than that or I would sure hope it is so I noticed it had the stock frame in the back and we could tell that it had the S10 frame there's where the battery should go wouldn't have to move the battery if we did a Mustang 2 swap but yeah so now I suppose we could put the battery right here then we got to cut out more floor not excited about that cuz there's not enough room over here but here's where they splice the S10 frame to the stock frame so this is the stock rear cab cross M so these cab mounts should be OEM oh there they are right there looks like they Notch the S10 frame to clear so I'm fine with that cuz it was good enough for GM for the last 70 years it should be good enough for another 70 they got these giant 1/ in bolts and then they stuck the S10 frame to the outside of the stock frame trying to figure out what they got going on here so it looks like they just torch cut some Quin plate drilled and bolted it in three spots to the stock frame laid a terrible bead across and then bolted the original frame to that they did weld it on the top I mean it ain't the worst patch job it should be fine I probably would have boxed it from there onto there we can add a little bit more material it's probably fine but if you're going to splice this Frame to this Frame I would have done it ahead just do it right here right of the Coss the cab then the only thing you got to modify is the transmission crossover you don't have to mess with the battery you don't have to mess with the cab mounts you don't have to mess with the running board mounts but I think that's where this guy ran out of skill they got got this done and then they got into the cab mounts and all that stuff and anyway whatever so headers uh looks like it's going to be real tight but it should clear the frame rail this side clear the starter and the bell housing should be good to go the steering it's got an extreme angle right there that's way too much of an angle for that stock knuckle in my opinion uh yeah not so good then they got a rag joint here this is where I saided their spline it's like 3/4 36 spline that's where I would put your knuckle and then you can put a knuckle at that other end those knuckles got a lot more range of motion than these rag joints and again this rag joint's 30 years old got 200,000 Mi probably would be good to replace so yeah we got to definitely got to do something with that steering shaft but we were aware of that from the welds up top uh the stock brake pedal master cylinder should be right here it would have been mounted all on the frame I would have left all that cuz that mounts to the frame you can get rid of the stock master cylinder and put like a aftermarket booster and master cylinder down here so you can oh my God what is that we're going to get to that in a second but then you can then you don't have to modify the firewall you don't have a big ugly booster on the firewall or all that stuff so I like them under the floor out of sight out of mine uh provided you don't have a leak once you get them up and running you should never have to touch them every spring just check the fluid good to go they got a hole in the floor to check them and everything they make some nice kits but so these got a pedal for the park break and he said something about the park brake hanging up was hard to roll so they got this metal rod and they welded some quarter inch chain to it very terribly I might add and then it goes to this coupler and then it wraps around the cable for that side and then we got the two tied together with none other than a hose clamp is it a good hose clamp at least well it's an ideal tridon it's a it's a good one but you need you need some typ type of hanger here to to clamp these things you can't just have them drawn tight like that so uh Valiant effort on the park brake but I suppose since they didn't have a transmission in it or a shifter hooked up to put it in park keep it from rolling this is what they did to keep it from Rolling I hope they didn't plan on using this going down the road cuz that's that's terrible looks like they got the stock S10 brake line run back here oh even the S10 tail light harness perfect like I said this rear end is is way too narrow it's I mean almost touching the leaf springs I'm looking how much room you got out here so you either got to get a huge offset wheel God forbid run spacers but just run the right rear end I think 70 to 81 Camaros fit in here quite well so carrying on uh the way they mounted the rear end looks like it's all stock S10 stuff I would imagine they had to move these mounts but however they did it looks like a pretty decent job that doesn't look like an aftermarket mount those welds look pretty terrible so I'm guessing they cut the stock Mount off and moved it over oh yeah most definitely you can tell by the way they got this brake line roted it should have been up here these S10 rear ends they're super weak what are they like a 7.5 these things break like glass if you put any power to them so one other reason not to run these things looks like they do have the brakes all plummed up back here stock suspension you can tell by the way that it is you can tell that it's an aspen Tre because the way it is cuz they got these grease cerss on it these like to wear out but you can buy new bushings and stuff there really isn't anything wrong with them so i' probably stick with that that's why I like the stock frame stock stuff it's good it's heavy it's lasted 70 years looks like somebody's had this bracket off put some bolts in there and they should be riveted on like of that guy missing a tailgate uh I did notice upon further inspection there's clear coat on here you can see by the runs I'm not a fan of that but it's on there there what can you say looks like these are Ultras I'm guessing they're a 15 by7 2570 15 like I said you can I know you can fit a 27560 on there that's what I got so that's a whole 60 mm so almost 3 in wider than this guy brand new Wheels Balan looks like these tires are brand new where's the date Cod at right there 3 of 17 so I'm guessing this is a stalled project that's coming up on uh 7 years now dang 2024 is already here so they did okay they bought new Wheels new tires but if you're buying wheels and tires buy some buy the right wheels and tires buy some staggered wheels and tires buy bigger wheels and tires wheels and tires and stance and you can make anything cool so and then when you buy wheels and tires that's the first thing you buy and then you build your suspension and your rear axle based off of that so you get it sitting how you want instead of building it all and then trying to get wheels and tires to fit later so let's get this thing on the ground and take a look in the cab and we'll get to work we out the cab look at all these goodies everything including the kitchen Fork maybe he was going to use that for his gas pedal speaking of gas pedals look like we got some wiring I don't know what that's for with the negative battery cables there we got some fuel lines these are that kind of special fitting they got a little o-ring on them and they are full of dirt and go on the back of the uh throttle body I was going to say I bet they're cut right off I think that's where the fuel filter threads on but we're going to need those cuz I don't know that I have a way to uh make a connection that goes in the back of these throttle bodies there was also a spare intake and throttle body which is moderately concerning because we don't have issues with that this one doesn't look like it's in very good shape not stored very well we got all of our running board brackets we got our stock and S10 throttle pedal you got the radio deletes we got the speaker cover the gauges the spacer for the throttle body some trim a little bit of factory wiring but anyway so yeah was nice that they saved us these ring board brackets so we can modify those there's the cover for the floor for the uh battery cover some good pieces there we had this nice puding Tang seat cover we're going to let that dry out cuz we're missing that window over there we will have to scrunch a driver's window up looks like this one's cracked as well but it'll fill a hole there's a new carpet in there and I believe it's a stock style 4753 carpet there's our transmission cover that needs to be cut up as you'll see it's got the S10 seat which it's pretty much centered right now and you can see it's a solid 6 in per side to narrow so that I don't like get the right seat right off the bat get it in there get it mounted and then that's going to dictate where your gas pedal is where your brake pedal is where your steering column goes so wheels and tires and a seat get those right off the bat and get the right freaking seat like I said I know they had this thing around but it's too narrow and so if you build your pedals and your column off this seat and then you find the right seat or a better seat it might dictate where that stuff was which I know you can modify seat brackets and all that I would have left the stock fuel tank in this thing it should have been behind the seat here and I think you should be able to gravity fed an inline high pressure pump and then ran that so maybe we'll do that and I bet they make aftermarket tanks that go be I I don't hate behind the seat tanks but I don't know we'll see we got all kinds of room under the bed to put a fuel tank as well I think I showed you guys drive shafts back there but ECU is over here in the corner there's that factory heater they did a lot of painting in here they didn't put a glove box in it it's kind of how they were mounted from the factory o it's even got the Delco part number so we'll have to mount that that this harness is all hacked up but it looks like HVAC controls or maybe uh that's got to be stereo the way that's all hacked up but yeah like I said it's a manual column for an S10 it's a non- tilt which I mean if you're going to use a ugly S10 column at least get a tilt um thing I don't like about these is they already got a spot for your ignition switch there so I just kind of like leaving at factory and I like when you look at a pickup and you walk up to it you could tell it's got an S10 just by your gut instinct by how low it sits and the five lug Wheels but when you open the cab it looks like a stock column stock looking gauges stockish looking bench seat but that's just me uh the other problem with these engines is they're OBD1 so there's not a lot of Diagnostics that you can do with these so that kind of sucks there you can see why they had the Mount issue they they got to cut this toe board up a little bit higher looks like they already did a terrible job of cutting it up but it's got to be cut up higher and then we'll have to remake that pan to clear the transmission there's plenty of room in here so might as well move it up uh 88 to 98 Chevy pickup seats are actually 88 to 94 regular cab bench seats fit in here really well I think I got one later on so we'll put one of those in there it I would say that that brake pedal is hanging down too low I would have it up higher so but we can cut it and move it up but then you're maybe it's not going to be as strong depending on who welds it and also you're going to screw up your pedal geometry I think you want like 6 and 1 12 to one or 7 to one something like that for your pedal ratio for your geometry and if you cut it you're going to be down to like 5 to one your pedal is going to push harder than it should I'll show you here they got this brace right there below this cob vent lever that ties the uh firewall to the dash and then they got one right above the steering column see how that braces it all up well the problem here is they got these two little quarter inch bolts hanging this entire column and it's at the wrong angle there should be some type of spacers so you don't have a big air gap and don't use a chunk of rubber fuel hose in the middle as an isolator and then make it so it goes through the stock holes right there so that it's actually utilizing that support so that was a little bit of a Miss then I don't know if you can see it or not but that brake pedal should be tied into the steering column Mount as well that's Mia but we knew that from the way we could wiggle it out there so we'll have to uh redo that but I think if we if we were to just leave it the same out there all we'd have to do is bring a strut rod off of that brake pedal up to this existing Mount and that should triangulate that and really firm it up they did put a nice little rubber boot cover around the steering column to keep air out so that's good got a nice uh General Motors floor mat not really hiding anything for are solid looks like they cut up that kick panel over oh I suppose they were trying to knock that dent out but instead of using God would they have a beaver with really dull teeth chew that off that's horrendous looks like they got a little torch action and then down at the bottom they used the cut off wheel then they got into the inner Fender so there's a gap over there it's gonna throw rocks in here sweet there's that Park break I was telling you about it's a really ugly pedal setup another reason we just cut those especially in these trucks some of them I think were lever underneath the dash could be wrong and that's what your kick panel should look like good thing we got one to uh make a template out of yeah yeah half the headliner there windshield glass seems okay that's the other thing we can't really use many electronics on this truck uh the gauges are six Vol everything's 6vt so speedometer will be fine it's mechanical if we had a mechanical transmission uh amp gauge would be fine which I don't like amp gauges uh fuel gauge is going to be different cuz ohms well anyway headlights got to change all that stuff so not a big deal that they gut it at all hopefully it looks like they got the ignition wired up in here let's throw a battery in it see if we can't get her turning over like I said I could tell this is a manual column cuz it's got that interlock there they never made a I shouldn't say that they never made a floor shift automatic S10 that I ever saw but maybe maybe like the typhoons or something I don't know like I said if you're going to do an S10 get one with the column shift so you don't have to have a floor shift save yourself some bucks there and then get one with tilt cuz look at how high that sits gred the seat's sitting pretty low but all right let's throw battery in this thing cuz I'm sure Wesley is sitting over there grumbling geez is that morsky ever going to get to work no I'm not it's uh New Year's Day so I'm going a little slow today just kidding we were totally passed out on the couch by like 9:30 last night watching the lube tube Duff who's our battery sponsor this week that dog is just nowhere to be F and there's work to be done hey if you haven't go on morsky get yourself a cap so you can get in the grubbiest cat competition cat cat grub don't send me pictures of your cat uh grubby's C comid coming up uh CCO to drinko May 5th we're going to get your hat at morsky wear it get it nice and grubby like mine uh if you're into having clean hats have get buy two so you can have a clean hat and a dirty hat and uh submit your entries on the morsky fan group follow that if you aren't there's some funny memes and stuff that people put on there and whatnot get yourself the new hoodies that we got available they are dark heather gray like this the stock photo was wrong originally uh so those are are on there uh we got magnetic can coozies we got banners we got magnetic screwdrivers we might have some super scrapers on hand probably not cuz they sell out fast but we got everything on there we got deal if we don't got it you don't need it looks like junks Automotive is our battery sponsor this week you too can be a battery sponsor here of morsky Doom that positive need a new end on it yep I am positive that it needs a new end or waits oh look what they were doing they were just using that one Island to screw into the side of them battery yeah it crossed my mind for a second to use that let's let's just put a different one on there our first real wrenching on this thing just for you West we're putting a craptastic replacement and on a battery cable go check out watch West work you know how like DD Speed Shop is the king of hacks Wes is like the total opposite everything's got to be perfect and heat shrunk and properly located and fixed and clamped and dialectric greased and torqued there's there's a torque spec on these I bet he could tell you Wes good guy Dan I don't know the good thing about Dan is he is he doesn't ever sound any cars so I mean he's not screwing people over with the garbage that he builds so he's got that he said he was going to come down here and beat up on me but I guess the the storm stopped him big pansy I can already tell this battery mounting location is going to be super optimal for all of our future endeavors here did they hook up that ground what's a caught on what is your problem turns out they had the chassis ground hooked up down there which is fine but got a little ahead of themselves because I don't think we need a chassis ground quite yet of course somebody's rounded off this side post bolt so we're going to go get a pliers and tighten that up no smoke yet though so we got that going for us Duff man you got no interest in this project you know that there's not going to be an rid anytime soon or did you get uh have a rough night last night New Year's no comment okay okay you going to come over here and get some pets oh who's a good boy yeah yeah you want to turn the key huh want to turn the key for us all right here goes nothing and that's what we get nothing where would the neutral safety switch be oh we should be able to reach the transmission shifter eh who needs a floor shifter when you just reach through the floor all right no cranky crank we shouldn't have to turn anything with that I guess I'll lay under here and try to figure out the last guy's wiring but hopefully it's all GM stuff but it's just plug and play and there's a wire not hooked up you don't suppose we got another dead battery let's just take a look at this harness since I'm already laying down here nice part about this low S10 seat is it gets you right down where you need to be lot of unhooked wires so I was wondering how you tie an S10 harness to a pickup harness cuz the S10s never came with TBI 350s I'm not seeing anything all hacked up it all looks like Plug and Play where's the purple crank wire so I'll give you a quick rundown and what's going on down here this is our OBD1 connector this connector right here is for your turn signals cruise control uh blinkers hazards all that and these connectors up top here are for your ignition for your crank your accessory power your ignition power all that so I guess we could check to see that the there's a rod that activates that I can hear it clicking in there so I feel like that's working but sometimes those can be out of adjustment let's go see if the wires are hooked up on the starter and then we'll check the battery for voltage and then we'll check for voltage up here and I'll let you know what we come up with because I'm sure there's nothing you would love more than to watch me do electrical troubleshooting yeah oh this is comfortable I can take a nap here you should try that seat out Duff it's nice it's way better than the dirty shop floor grumpy old man you going to be a nicer more loving puppy in 2024 No Doubt what a debacle this is turning into ad off so I finally got power let me let me go I've been troubleshooting for what seems like hours couldn't get any power to the key so I checked up here and of course didn't have any power to this I don't all these power studs here and this ginormous wire was hanging there so we stuck that in there we got power to the key switch still weren't getting any power to the starter wasn't getting any power out here found a switch that that uh the power crank power goes from yellow to purple and uh press that switch and we got power coming out of that couldn't figure out what that was cuz I thought neutral safety switch message Wes he goes That's a clutch switch I was like oh duh cuz it was an S10 with a manual so here's the deal this harness is off the S10 and that harness up there is off another pickup so this is where it gets confusing that purple wire comes out down here but on that harness the purple wires up here so what I've determined is like I said that's a pickup fulls size pickup harness in the cab is the S10 harness so we're going to have to do some splicing and stuff but we should only need the the wires for the ECU so uh ignition and then uh Power at crank and then constant power going to the ECU so there's you know 70 wires going through that bulkhead but we only need you know a half dozen of them so hopefully we can pin those or take those wires out of their connectors move them around of their perspective spots otherwise we'll just drag an OBS pickup in here steal the harness out of it swap the column cuz really what else are we using we might be money ahead to just I cannot believe that an S10 fuse panel will hook up to a fulls siiz pickup that's that's how interchangeable GM is but it also shows how dumb GM is that they don't have that purple crank wire pinned out in the same spot but we might as well hack up the S10 harness cuz it's no good other one so hopefully we can just bend some tabs on here get that harness popped out and uh move it to where it's got to go Joe oh doesn't this look like fun yeah a lot of fun so we need to move this purple wire well both these purple wires actually cuz they're tied together from the bottom up to the top all right stay tuned I'll let you know it goes and no I'm not going to cut them off and splice them you should be able to stick a small flat whatever screwdriver in there bend that tab off push it out bend that tab back slide in the other spot and that's what latches it I'll see if I can show you all right so this is actually a tool for some type of connector probably not these but just care they all stabber rosi there we go think we got it nope not quite there had have gotten it get your screwed by morski repair magnetic screwdriver at mori.lee go with what the french toast how can that not slide out of there don't make me get the pliers and get angry Mr McGee don't make me angry you wouldn't like me when I'm angry you don't want to see me angry oh look at this pays the pay attention I bet if we snap this little guy out of there now it'll slide out watch watch there it is these don't have the clippy do so we got to go from the bottom to the top which is also a purple wire but significantly smaller yeah I think there is a little oh yeah there's that little tab right there you got to bend if you can see that there's that little Tang right there we slide this through bend that Tang flat and then it should slide out provided you got the uh jail keeper out there so now we got to do the same thing on this purple one on the top now when I push this in there there you go slid right out so now we just swap that connector out with this one and uh we hope we don't need that later that's the beauty of these YouTube videos is uh at a later time when I can't figure out where that purple goes I can go back and reference this video so now we should have crank which is funny the the power wire clearly lined up cuz the red wire here is our power wire uh which Powers up our key switch so that part is right let me show you what we got going on the other end over here so I took this little guard off but this side has got like DD Speed Shop electrical shoo in there just packed in there so there's our red wire there's our purple wire um I'm guessing pink is going to be uh key power or ignition power so we're going to want to figure out where that's going and make sure that they line up with the uh Pink wire we already got because GM's pretty notorious for using that pink as a ignition source which pin out is that check this out chin came over to connect that bulk at it's two person job so chin figured it all out but we also got spark we uh took two people to figure that out too well not to figure it out I watched the spark he turn the key because somebody isn't much assistance yeah don't look away it's you so I had to move I don't know three wires on this side you just never mind how terrible that starter sounds it'll be fine so yeah everything's back together there we got ignition power going to the pink wire battery power going to the red into that uh crank power going to the starter so as long as we got ignition power to that pink we should have power to our ECU which is telling us when to spark and we should be getting powered our injectors so now we got to figure out something for a a fuel system great I don't know what we're going to do there like I said we got a either clean these ugly o-ring seal flares up or uh find some different ones I don't think I got any spare TBI fuel lines around and then we got to somehow tie a a high pressure fuel pump to it with a return in order to make it run that'll be fun I guess we got to go drag an OBS out of the weeds to do that maybe maybe not think about it just for S's and G's let's give her a tickle the old hot sauce see if it runs I know what good enough but you know I like creating fire I feel like our timing is off so that's probably what we can do next mess with the timing because it's getting dark and I don't want to be out back looking for a fuel tank and maybe I'll come up with uh h of Tiffany and uh figure something else out in order to get fuel up here I used to have a little fuel cell for uh Herby Derby cars that were fuel injected and it got Rusty from sitting around so I wish I had you know a boat tank with a high press pump and return that would really be something so we're going to have to do is turn this thing over find top dead center and then pull that distributor out and get that set up cuz I'm guessing they had that out of there at some point only thing I can see check this out I forgot to show you this earlier check the starter down just to make sure the starter worked when we were trying to get it to crank and these guys uh notched this lower control arm bracket I think it's fine but they must have notched that to get the starter in there it should be like this but they cut that whole area off of there awesome but I think I found out uh what's going on here it's got a South Dakota flywheel I'm missing a tooth there and a half a tooth there and uh 1 2 3 four five six of them are missing half of their teeth so it's kind of like Oklahoma du so we're going to turn this thing over and get her to top dead center drop that distributor in got our Mark right there just got to get her up to the top I think if we get her close it'll be good I think we got her figured out we got her set to top dead center it's pointing at where number one should be but they got number one a terminal off let me show you so there really ain't a wrong way to do it well there's a lot of wrong ways there's a lot of right ways too but generally speaking I have number one right here but on this one it's number one happens to be right there I usually like it so the rotors pointing at cylinder number one which would be this guy but it's pointing right here so instead of pulling it and moving it we're just going to move all the wires over one we can fix it later but we won't uh it appears that the firing order is correct 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 so I'm going to move those wires around we're going to bolt this back down we'll try it again see what happens I wonder if this is why our flex plate is missing so many teeth because it's kicking against the starter and they just kept trying and trying I don't know I would be interested to know the history on this project and what got us to this point someday we may find that no guarantees we could be 180 off but I got a pretty good feeling this is going to resolve our issues now let's give her a tickle of the old Cosby sauce and see what happens we still call it that oh yeah that guy's not guilty right it's like OJ rip starter we got her running now we just got to put radiator hoses in a fan and drive shaft and shift link kitchen transmission cooler lines the seat in a brake line and a steering column Mount and a brake mount and running board mounts and a bed Mount and lights and a window but I'm going to have a celebratory sandwich cuz we got this thing to run I think I got a plan whole little land shark garage nap aad he I don't know 88 to 94 OBS pickup he St to one of them out of it was going to do something with it probably still hasn't but anyway it's got the fuel system in it and I know it was running this summer so we should be able to take fuel lines fuel pump fuel tank all that put her in there but I'm not going to lay on my back in the dark in the cold on the ice in the snow so I got skid steer out rug it around since we only got one lift so the other one's full with other stuff so I'm going to drag this thing out we're going to push Stella in here and we're going to steal the fuel system out of that and uh maybe some other pieces and maybe we'll glance at that for wiring probably not cuz I'm guessing he took all that if he was smart he probably didn't take all that and you're going to do what supervise okay you want to steer I'll do it all [Music] myself [Music] [Music] now we land shark he already got the seat out of this thing but if we really had to and we couldn't figure out the harness inside the cab that we could take the cab harness out of this and then steal this column and then we would get column shifted column probably with tilt because it's a GMC and then hopefully would made up to that harness but let's see what other goodies we can Harvest from uh Stella here Stella Starla so here's our fuel lines it looks like he took them off nicely didn't cut him off so thanks for that it's still got fuel in the tank what a deal so maybe we'll get some fuel out of this there's some shift linkage here for us in there if we uh get a column shift figured out or even if we figure something out anyway training Crosser that we're not going to need look at this ginormous fuel tank o we could have single exhaust probably not though maybe later but yeah oh looks like somebody picked her up with the old Telly Handler but I think that's just a shield yep that's a plastic Shield so 15 mm take those down and then we'll get the tank we'll get the fuel we'll get the pump we'll get the lines we'll get a fresh fuel filter and a fuel Fu filter clamp and we might even get some fuel pump wiring if need be yeah we might even be able to measure that rear end see what the width is of that thing compared to what we need this is going to be a five on five bolt pattern versus the 4 and 3/4 that's in that thing but anyway it's it's wider I guarantee you so let's get this buzzed out of there oh my gosh what's going on there little spy splice action in the exhaust [Music] [Music] all righty didn't even uh let the ice melt that's pretty quick that's what she said yeah that's what she said so we got all our fuel lines there is one like vent line hose thing here as well but we'll just vent that the atmosphere I did cut the wire harness cuz I wanted this pigtail I don't like cutting harnesses but we'll worry about that if we ever uh restore old uh Starla here but yeah should have everything we need if not we'll keep it outside the door maybe we'll steal the filler neck off it if need be and yeah there was not much petroleum in there but get yourself a bobcat and a lift Mak quick work of this all right let's bring uh the old GMC back oh GMC given to GMC's got mechanic coming GMC got mechanic coming yeah we should pump that up we should fix the tire from being flat but we'll just Pump It Up For Now call [Music] good we're going to get this thing out of the way too hopefully start driving it some [Music] so there's a lot of way to skin a cat on a fuel system I mean ideally you'd probably get like a fuel cell customade underneath the bed with a pump in the tank uh you could use a stock tank and do an inline pump and then add a return don't use the stock 92 GMC tank and stock fuel lines but that's what we're going to do for now to make sure this thing runs and it's all stock GM stuff I do like using stock GM stuff cuz your fuel pump goes bad on a Sunday afternoon and you're in Morrison Illinois you just go to your uh local part store your Napa your O'Reilly your advance whatever they got and you just get a fuel pump for a 92 Chevy pickup drop her in there good to go and then it's stock style connections so you know they're good for 400,000 Mi so they're good for another 20 40 60,000 Mi whatever you're going to put on this hot R so like sticking with the stocks upu so I think what I'm going to do is take those lines off that fuel pump and then we're going to fish them up in there and see kind of where they lay out and then we'll just strap that tank in the Box for now and then we'll uh Plum it up should be good to go hook up some wires he's Buey a lemon squeezy oh good thing we did I was going to say I want to check out to see God all the lines to cut those electrical connections right there so a good thing I uh this is the tail light harness and I was scoping out that pickup to see how the fuel stuff was routed so yeah good thing I snagged that pigtail off now we'll have to uh splice that in there then we should be able to run that tank so dang it why' they cut that oh well all right let's uh Plum some lines hopefully we got room oh yeah we got all kinds of room all right check this out I could not get the fuel tank to fit in the bed it's where the fuel lines would hook up I put the fuel lines up underneath hooked them up and then I ran them up in the bed and I thought we just set the fuel tank in the bed let me show you what we got going on here and also I couldn't get power coming out of that harness so there must be a bad fuse or a relayer they they pulled a lot of the fuses out of the fuse relay box or fuse relay Center so anyway we got to get power back to the fuel pump somehow but I got jumper cables look at this thing had a brand newish used fuel pump in it got our lines hooked up down there I don't know that this fuel tank it it won't work unless you jack this thing up but uh we got our lines hooked up on this end they're hooked up on the throttle body I got a jumper cable going over here let's hook this guy up and see if we got any fuel leaks oh yeah napad said there's about 2 gallons of gas in that thing and when I shuffled that thing around and lifted it by I mean I'm a pretty strong guy here Hercules Hercules Hercules but anyway we might have to dump some gas in that thing but let's see if we got any leaks those should be the only two spots unless the lines were rotted out I can hear the pump running looks good let's crank the key see what happens we even got to say slingshot engage when it's when it's a throttle body electronic ignition Bo yeah slingshot engage slingshot engaged not working I'm going to somehow find a way to dump fuel in this tank underneath the pickup see if that works but not too much cuz I don't want the tank to be heavy kind of sounds like it's running dry right now this is one of my more interesting f t fi jobs oh yeah I can already hear that pump fighting down I wish somebody was up front checking to see uh we had any leaks that' be nice the crap that we will do around here to make a will it run video for you people even Duff's like I want no part of this for fuel cap back on come on now C your home don't you know where your home is why didn't you just go home that's your home are you too good for your home answer me hanging upside down makes me lightheaded maybe it was the sandwiches I had speaking of that we're going to have a celebratory sandwich when this thing runs Mr Cyclops you see any leaks looks good enough for the girls we go with I did put a vacuum plug on whatever that that's for I'm guessing it goes to the evap canister that it's no longer there sorry Greta how dare you no exhaust C cuz they fresh header so hopefully there's no mice making a nest in [Music] there guessing the pump's working so it's got to be that TBI isn't getting power I would assume [Music] all right the pump is running we know the pump ran and drove but a few months ago we know there's wiring issues so let's dig into what fires those throttle body injectors go from there this is where we need the old west he could be here those no things I wonder if we got a set of those we can noid light noid light we need a noid light the noids I wonder what the Noid twins are up to I ain't heard from them in years have you Duff all right I'm at Wits End uh troubleshooting does not make for good content I'll probably get 3 minutes of content out of it's almost noon yeah I probably got 4 hours into troubleshooting this just bouncing questions off buddies of course Wes return my calls so we're without him but uh actually a lot of help is my buddy Ryan down at Service Plus in Watertown South Dakota he's got was it Mitchell Pro demand I think is what they call it so he gave me the schematic for that you can find the schematics online but it's Hit or Miss what you're going to find and if you find the right one so anyway uh there's two wires going to the injectors we got spark we're not firing the injectors we tested the injectors this came to me last night it's pretty pretty easy thing to do just grab yourself a 9volt battery take the connector off the top of the injector there's two almost like bolet terminals put this across and you can hear the injector quick you know if the injector is any good and you also know if you got fuel pressure so I know my injectors are good and I know I got fuel pressure so then you got key power going to one side of your injector which is let me get my schematic out I wrote it on the radiator white on one side and red on the other white and red should have key power to the injectors and then the ECM ECU whatever you want to call it control controls the ground side I did not have power so that oh perfect solved it so I back fed that by using this kit that Wes told me about these things are really awesome you still got to know how to use a schematic and know what you're doing but these kits you can get them on Amazon it's got all kinds of different connectors you got Spade terminals both male and female you got little tiny Flats little tiny rounds um there's LED noid lights in there there's R stats just anything anything you can need so you're not you don't hack up a harness I like the uh big long needles for back probe and I probably don't have one handy oh I bet I do right here this guy you can slide her in the back side of the connector just the way I like it so anyway I back fed it and then found where the power was going to so I back fed that with battery power so I know I got power to it I still I got to figure that out we just got to wire key power up to it cuz you don't want constant power going to your injector and then uh the ground side we found out where those connectors go they go to d114 and D16 on the ECU so I disconnected the ECU we tested for continuity we got good continuity we test for continuity to ground we got no continuity to ground so I know that they're not grounded out and so yeah my wires are good so short of the ECU being bad but the other thing that controls when that thing pulses is the ECU so like I said we could still have a bad ECU we know we got power to the ECU cuz it's control on our spark but what controls the spark and then the firing of that is the module in the distributor so not only does it control spark it controls Fuel and a buddy of mine Mason you're going to get your real name called out he said I've had one of those go bad where it it had spark but it wouldn't pulse the injectors I dropped it a different distributor in it worked fine so hopefully this is what it is I got a used distributor here there's four wires coming out of this I back probed all these mine's actually different colors I think uh I think the whest signal that goes to the E the these all go to the ECU so I disconnected this connector here and then I uh tested for continuity between the ECU pin outs and uh this connector uh one's the signal the white one's the signal uh one's ground which I think is the red black on this one and then the tan is for your timing signal there's that connector you unhook if you're familiar with those that one is good and then uh purple was another signal but anyway those are all good I don't know the story on this distributor it was laying around I didn't take it out cuz I don't cut wires I would have just disconnected those but we're going to steal that module out and hopefully that fixes it how boring is electrical troubleshooting though so boring hopefully this fixes it if it doesn't it's got to be the ECU hopefully there's ECU still left in that GMC out there swap I'm guessing all the ecus are pretty much the same this is going to fix it and all you got to do is pop the cap off take your two connectors off that I just shown take these two screws out and then there's a connector right there I've never actually put one of these in a uh TBI put a lot of them in hii but let's put that in there and see what happens all right modules installed I'm going to go hook up all the stuff that we unhooked and hook up our fuel pump and we'll crank this thing over hopefully it just lights right off that was a standard ignition part so somebody's already replaced that one the one we took out looked like it's been replaced too it didn't look like a GM part so and then of course I didn't have any that grease that goes in between there but we're just going to wing it we'll have to order some of that and uh hopefully order one of these modules or two and throw on the Shelf cuz I feel like this is going to be an issue in the future but if we have on the Shelf it'll never be an issue right sir man you are a lazy dog today all right fuel pumps running here goes nothing we do have a noid light still hooked up this thing should be flashing when it's cranking over if uh everything's working properly all right we got no uh pulse going to the injector so we must have a bad ECU or another bad ignition module that possible anything's possible around here so let's go see if that uh GMC's got a ECU he can steal they're all the same right do let's un hook our battery here swap an ECU far as I know these things are all pretty much the same but I don't know a whole lot either never claim to this one's actually a reman so they must go back connectors are the same all right take the battery up and give her a go fuel pump hooked up let's keep her crank still nothing I wonder if the battery power that I got hooked up to the injectors is dropping out a crank so I'm going to run a new wire for that to the battery and then we'll see what happens all right now I got a known good power source from the battery going to what should be the injectors now we'll see what happens we got power here power at that injector power at that injector H only thing I can think of is we either got two two bad ecus or two bad modules my bets on the module all right just ran over to pookies he's got a fleet of these Suburbans with tvis in it hit us up if you want a tits up Ranch Deco we got a bunch of those it's all goes to put his kids into college I mean out of the three one of them should be College material it's probably going to be Kenny she's uh she seems to be the brightest one in the box but anyway grabb a distributor from him that's the only thing I can think of that or we got to swap that harness inside the cab I have no idea we're not sending power or ground from the key needs to get to the computer or what so going to drop a distributor in another unknown Distributors try that the only thing I can think of is either got a bad module or the reluctor wheel pickup or something in there could be bad so the swap gnostics continues so that's another hour of messing around so I'm going drop this guy in there it's got a GM module so you know it's never been messed with and a CLE oh my gosh nobody ever put a rot or cap on this thing chewy slide that guy on there and uh try it [Music] again somebody has been here before I think thing looks like brand new doesn't it you can still see the uh card number on it so yeah that tells us the last people were trying to figure this out and it also tells us that maybe this could have been the culprit who knows let's put a GM in there see what [Music] happens cheese and rice pretty sure that's a OEM 240,000 Mi rotor all right we're going to cheapers creepers definitely should have tried swapping that out before this point remind me to put a different one on later Public Service Announcement Wes finally got back to me he thinks it's a security system issue but I don't think I don't ever remember seeing a TBI with bats or any type of security on it so we just going forget that he said that all right let's try her again I guess SL shot and Eng sh [Music] enged hey let's H the coil wire up and then try it go let's verify we didn't lose Spark all right I think we're at the point where we got to steal the harness out of that GMC out there and hook that up to this harness and it's got to be somewhere in that cab harness on the inside right all right I've been messing around with this thing a fuel pump probably brought it from Napa Shad outed on this thing so I had to run errands yesterday and I picked up a New Deli from the old s events stuck that in there got that all working I got the steering column out of this 92 and I got the cluster and the radio and the Heat and the each back and I got the harness out from the bulkhead to about the heater controls and then there's a bunch of wiring going across and Duff said do not cut that so while we were running errands Mojo got this dash out of here Mojo is the man the beauty of Mojo magic got that dash out didn't even B bust it up I wish it was gray cuz then we could put it in the 92 cuz that little short bed's got a bad Dash but yeah got it all got that out of here and then I fished the harness out L last night had to go to a birthday party had a few sandwiches got that out of there Duff's inspect and make sure we didn't forget nothing but let's hook that harness up and use this steering column and see if that thing starts it's going to start it's got to start right do right high five slap hands slap hands slap hands you just want me to pet you you big baby oh now we're goingon to shake now we're gonna shake yeah there's a good puppers all right let's do this Moment of Truth Duff will it even turn over what a mess well that's a plus let's hook up the fuel pump see what happens I can hear pressure up [Music] here noid light working better shut her off cuz I don't want that running [Music] dry don't turn the key the wrong way Duff says it's hard on starters ring gears most importantly your ears all those swap nostics finally paid off I think the whole time the problem that we're having is the S10 harness I mean we knew it was there but that was a lot more work than it needed to be to steal this harness but you can't combine an S10 harness and a C10 harness uh the beauty though of this is now I get a harness that's not all welded up let me show you what what they did so we we're just going to forget that little spring dealy that goes in there but that's kind of an integral part to this but this is the Double D slider and then it's spind I think it's 3/4 36 is what the GM is three 3/4 30 sorry think I looked it up on Speedway Motors that little spring I was talking about goes in there holds a little tension on it but this slides back and forth and they just welded it in one spot which they shouldn't have done but I I think the seal is the same um but anyway we're going to get tilt and cruise and all them goodies now so really we can steal the cruise off of another one of these pickups it's not present in here but we should be able to have cruise and all that good stuff working and tilt and we'll get column shift so we don't have to worry about shift linkage and this son of a biscuit and if all land shark would have left us a seat we'd have got our seat out of the deal but really all we're losing or I mean we just take that S10 column and S10 harness out drop all this stuff in there bada bing bada boom We Are Back In Action yeah see the old s dime didn't have cruise and now we'll have all the same connectors as a Chevy pickup so if we want to put the headlight switch the gauge cluster yeah we got have gauges and all that yeah we could hook up our fuel tank we have fuel gauge we could have wipers we could have our headlight switch we could use all that stuff where's our cruise control yeah here's our cruise control box so if we take that harness out of there and we hook that up and provided our stuff this is all good and the column stuff is good we could have all that we could have our wipers man this is going to be great so I'm guessing what happened is I changed a couple pins and we got it cranking and we got power to the computer but we didn't get all the powers and grounds needed to the computer even though I swear I checked all those by the schematic but it is what it is we got to running and now hopefully we get power to the fuel pump in the stock harness so we can just wire that in it's going to be great I'm super excited it's way too early to have a sandwich so we're not going to do that but now we're going to do some playing around in the interior get that wire harness at least moved in there maybe not have the column hooked up right away cuz we are running out of time this week I spent so much time troubleshooting this thing on the phone calling guys we called the old buckles down there in Nebraska he's put a bunch of these swaps in he knew a little bit about it uh Budd over at rigid Customs he's done a couple he didn't know what was going on uh Ryan down at uh Service Plus in Watertown we talk to West everybody had great ideas but at the end of the day it was cuz of the way that it was cobbled up from the previous person and we were just trying it on so hopefully we can swap back to that computer back to that distributor ECU module all that stuff and just put it back the way that it was and everything's going to be great so that is a huge relief we got to get that radiator mounted correctly we got to get the short water pump stuff on there we got to hook up the uh transmission lines and all that stuff before I run it much longer so yeah I'm just going to take a step back and uh enjoy the fruits of my labors like I said it's too early for a sandwich but we got some folders this morning had we're going to have to go get some more how excited are you that that thing finally runs fuel injection overdrive all that good stuff cruise control maybe yeah yeah woohoo all right back to work Duff and I Consolidated and for our next Vanishing act we're going to get rid of this whole Serpentine flat belt whatever you want to call it set up up front and then we're going to put a short water pump setup on it so that that way we can figure out where the radiator can be and once the radiator and figure out where that can be we can uh run our transmission cool lines and then we can run it just a little bit longer cuz a we can have coolant in it once we figure out rator hoses and B will have transmission fluid in it so it's not going to be spraying everywhere hopefully wish me luck should be pretty straightforward just a couple accessory bolts going through the heads uh take the lower pulley off should just be three bolts and then maybe that center bolt four bolts on the water pump couple accessory bolts on the other side easyy peasy lemon squeezy here we go and a little bit of wiring on the alternator we love wiring there you go got the wiring done Duff you want to do the rest he's nowhere to be found he's sick of wiring me too buddy me [Music] too [Music] [Music] all right now we just got to go round up some short water pump stuff get our super scraper out available at mori.lee surfaces see what we got for clearance clearance we have clearance clearance Roger Roger what's our Victor Victor watch this ss1 super scraper cut through these old crusty gaskets like a hot knife through butter like a hot knif butter oh yeah that's so satisfying I'm digging through the stash and we got ourselves a bottom pulley crank pulley pretty easy to identify with how flat they are a water pump pulley and then we got a Gates 43 106 I get these for 63 Corvettes short water pump and they're drilled for both bolt patterns so no matter what pulley you got they're going to bolt up there so let's put our fittings in and uh stick this on there oh and then they got that uh extra hole there some of them don't have that third hole down there fourth hole whatever you want to call it and the leak when you install them cuz uh you got to plug that port on certain blocks which this block has so 43106 that's a short water pump you want if you're H converting to short water pump it's kind of the one size fits-all all right let's get that on there and uh see what we got for room for a fan are you kidding me I didn't even refund that thing the joys of turning wrenches yeah I can turn it out with my finger wonder what happened there poor quality I'm just glad it didn't pull the threads out of the block that would have been real ugly [Music] all right I'm going to go dig through my fan stash and see what we got going on the way the radiator's Leaning here obviously it's going to be tighter up top than it is down low so the shorter the fan the better but really there's only a handful of different diameter fans you can can choose from so see what we got look at here she's got oh 3/4 of an inch clearance up here 5/8 in plenty clearance I don't see many radiators sitting at an angle like this I I think you kind of want it straight but I think the like the C3 Corvettes are sitting at an angle maybe some other ones but I don't know that that's going to affect the cooling should be fine even found myself a nice uh top radiator hose out of my selection bottom one we had to splice two pieces of Hose together cuz I couldn't find anything and I'm not going to resort to a flexi hose at this point in my life so should be good there so got to do alternator bracket got to do some plugs in the uh water pump there so we don't have any leaks got one of the lines hooked up I need to flare the end of another one double flare it so we can hook that up and we should be able to dump f it in the thing uh put a couple clamps on this guy and uh should be able to dump Cooling in it as well had to get out the old tub of hoses dig through all that stuff took that ugly electric fan off and that little four blade that we got here is you know probably your standard 5864 GM fan blade if it was good enough to cool a you know 300 horse 327 back in the day it should be just fine for this probably 200 horse TBI so we're making some progress and then while I was digging for some other parts the other day I found a heater to go on the firewall of that thing so motor's over here working on that leak testing it you got any leaks I can hear one yeah they're probably in the hose it's oh it's in the hose it's not coming out of the ah yeah yeah so 20 psi no bubbles coming out of the water should be good enough and then we got to figure out how we're going to we stole this fan out of that Starla there's the cover for it adjustable this guy's 6vt she really zings on 12vt we might test it out see how it's going to work cuz it's kind of a neat deal it's got the fan blade and then it's got a squirrel cage inside that uh runs the defroster so if you know of a good way to convert these to 12vt let me know we don't want to put a resistor cuz they just get hot right do you're supervising you over here huh making sure you do it right all right guys I think that's where we're going to wrap the video this week we are pretty much out of time we got this Marketplace find my buddy grumpy uh so thanks to grumpy for picking this thing up and taking a look at it and everything else uh we got this thing running we got the radiator hooked up we got radiator hoses on it we got the cooler lines we figured out the wiring which is part of making it run this thing still needs a lot of work it needs a throttle linkage cable it needs that steering transferred into there I would definitely brace up the steering and the master cylinder needs those the brake lines I see there's a brake line leaking back there so need some brake work it needs a drive shaft in my opinion it needs a seat but you could maybe use that seat my opinion it needs a rear end you maybe use that rear end needs exhaust it needs some type of fuel system I don't know if a maybe like a Tahoe or or a Suburban tank it'd be narrower so it fit between the bed rails or you need a custommade fuel cell maybe an inline pump something like that needs a little bit work there needs a bed floor tailgate needs a few things but that's what I like to do pick stuff up that's like this and then do a little bit of work just enough work to get it to the next guy so the next guy can decide if he wants dual exhaust with glass packs or a big single with a welded muffler or what kind of seat they want or what kind of interior and carpet and paint and wheels Tire stuff like that so if you want to own this thing price and availability listed in the video description it's right down here if you don't know how to find the video description you'll have to look it up don't email me don't message me don't reach out on Instagram hey how much is that and price and availability it's always in the video description it's down there I update it so anyway if you want to own this thing that'd be great cuz we got plenty of projects around here and this isn't real high on the priority list uh otherwise if nobody buys it we'll uh drag her back in another week we'll put that steering column and wire harness and all that stuff in there and make the steering the way that I like it I haven't determined if I want to slide that engine back I feel like it should be done but I don't know if the risk versus reward I don't know if it's worth moving it back that much further cuz we got room for the fan but I don't like the way the radiator sits I would have done a lot of things differently on this uh core support needs to be redone in my opinion but it it'd probably be just fine uh needs front bumper stuff like that so just wanted to show you guys the stuff that's out there and uh how much I really really like S10 swaps not but they do work I guess Different Strokes different folks you could be into these pretty reasonable I guess but at the same time if you value your time at all you would have just bought a Mustang 2 Kit and just went put her up underneath there so yeah appreciate watching uh electrical troubleshooting so much fun it is pretty rewarding when you get this thing to run this thing would be super sweet small block uh fuel injected cruise control overdrive all that stuff would be I mean it' be like driving a late model but looking old and cool doing it and that's what this hobby is all about so if you want to own this thing uh hit us up morcar gmail.com go check out the merch we got the uh hoodies on hand we got beanies we got caps uh the uh grubbiest hat competition's coming up here in Cinco D drinko so you got a few months to get your hat all grubby like mine I noticed my my little nub and is getting shiny I wore the uh Material off of the top of that so I'm doing a real good job even though I believe that the uh rules and regulations don't allow me to compete so yeah mori.lee [Music] screwdrivers we got some specialty ones in the works uh we got uh can magnetic can coozies we got deal you name it we got it if we don't got it you don't need it so thank you very much for watching check out other videos Remember doesn't matter get it done as long as you are having fun Advanced designs real [Music] fun [Music] oh [Music] my
