Will Ferrell on Letterman 08/02/2010 Part 1

our first guest stars in a very entertaining new film I saw this film a couple of days ago this really isn't entertaining it's funny I have a lot of times people come on with movies that really aren't that good and they cost like hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars they expensive it like a Chelsea Clinton wedding there that's how much but then I went to see this one and you just start laughing and you won't stop laughing you're gonna get your money's worth out of this one and by the way don't even bother calling me to thank me later okay he stars in a very entertaining film it's called the other guys it opens Friday ladies gentlemen the lovely the talented Will Ferrell Wow Wow the stump it's a summer suit and what grade will you be in this fall you know a lot of a lot of people can't pull this off seeing myself in monitor I don't think I know you're where do you go to get that you go to Brooks Brothers I'm just going real quick you buy a hiccup and I don't you try it on get in the bag and get out of there right yeah I guess it's the the socks yeah you do you do look like something's wrong something wrong somewhere yeah in your life I look like I want a contest yeah to be on the letter yes you're certainly a cute little guy I'm 43 speaking of cute little guys you have a third son is that correct I have a third son Wow Wow let's let's get it a nice there let's get a nice long shot of dad here so one day your brand-new baby boy will get a look at this what did your dad do for a living how old is the guy Axl Axl Axl Axl Axl hmm yes and it's an unusual I think it's an unusual name here not in Sweden it's a Swedish name it's a Swedish name your wife has family yes and our two other boys are Magnus and Mattias which are Swedish name that's right it may be the suit it's probably is the suit and so we knew we had to give him a Swedish name we did play around with a thought of naming him like Gary but then it'd be weird Magnus Mattias and Eric he's scary why my name is Gary and but axel in Sweden what does mean in Swedish I think it means like the keeper of peace oh well that's great good for you what a lovely name for the boy and Magnus means one who drinks blood from your spine they do it's a counterbalance yeah yeah a lot of that going on in Sweden oh it's it's still a very barbaric nation yeah they're still caught in the net wages how how old is the the new baby the new baby is six months old six months old yeah and how did the other kids that take to the new baby the other guys love him the Magnus is six Mattias is three so they love their little brother P however they they don't love each other so much and it's funny to try to parent and and watch their personalities come forward I was trying to discipline I think I think Matthias the younger guy hit Magnus at one point and let's try to explain how you can't do that and it's not good and and the reason why is Magnus was just trying to help you because he loves you so much at which point Magnus leaned over in a whisper and said to me Bob just so you know I don't just gonna go on though I just want to they're just so the court knows I do not love the defendant but then he said it whisper so he let me like I know you gotta get your parental advice between but it must be a fun there's a circus that's chaos yeah it's chaos but a good kind of means six months three and six yeah perfect Matthias is kind of our kind of life of the party guy runs around nude a lot and says things to me he is very demonstrative and at one point this summer he got so upset with me and he he said he said Papa he calls me Papa Papa you're a joke ooh ooh I was like I am NOT a joke I am a buffoon all right but I'm not a joke I work hard take a look at the outfit and I think that you need to know there that's not a joke that is of the truth that is a buffoon have you had time to do stuff with the family this summer have you been busy uh what have I been doing you know what I've actually been doing a lot of surfing this summer really yeah yes is that a lie no no no because you don't strut I mean you could be but you don't Cal I grew up in California Southern California yeah SoCal in the house right yeah and so I've been I've been surfing a lot I'm actually a very good surfer good free and in order but I've been bored with it lately because I you reach a level of proficiency so I did know new challenge no new challenges and I thought I would spice things up this summer by surfing with my alpaca my pet alpaca thing we have some footage of it actually of me surfing footage ya know if your alpaca of me surfing with my alpaca no you know talking about is this sweater you're talking about I'm talking about like a llama like creature it's a pet of mine named mark that's not right that's not right not right yeah it's not right considering we've you think about it is dumb because that animal is used to existing and you know sixteen thousand feet above sea level they're not going to take the surfing oh that's right but I got to give you credit I guess for giving it a shot so I tried I tried something else too little that's the same guy this is the same guy he's a lot daddy loves look out relax the yeah yeah because of the altitude the altitude right yeah we're friend of him well that's good to hear that's amazing now tell me about the did we talk about this once before when you you went on that the jungle guy show and oh man versus wise man versus well with the Bear Grylls Bear Grylls did how many shoes you've been on there just one you just did the one just one I went 40 miles north of the Arctic Circle that's right I remember all of that not now why did you lose a bet I mean why did you go in the dude oh no I just it was offered to me and I thought it was a I didn't want to pass it up mm-hm same guy who sold you the outfit same guy now tell me I thought it'd be interesting to do what of course it's interesting but tell me is the guy I mean what we see is one thing I mean what we see is a guy eaten bark and and chewing the rancid carcasses is is that really what goes on right off camera there's a notch or wagon arose a wagon sounds pretty good ya know when you get up there what do you how long were you up there I was up there for two days and yeah I had to do all these interesting things I don't it for any for anyone who watches the show you know he has too many of the episodes he drinks his own urine yes they alive yeah and it doesn't seem like he has to seem like he wants to so I what I agree and so I asked him 15 times yeah when was it time to drink our urine yeah I kept pestering him that bear is now a good time to drink our urine should I start drinking my urine yeah first you just follow but I thought it'd be funny he did not think it was funny really third after the third time did you do this one because of its close to Sweden you like the guy it was something to do it it was also tied into a promotional thing for a major motion picture oh wow alright what was it what was the movie Land of the Lost you know you win some you lose yeah you can't well I know if you're bad 300 that's right your Hall of Fame my friend yeah yeah and no more Ted Williams No did you enjoy that experience would you do it again I would there was one moment I know I don't think I would do it again what am I talking about it was good it was a great one-off and uh there was one horribly frightening sobering moment where I'm hanging from a helicopter 600 feet up at the end and that's that's where it hit me like what right I don't need to do this yeah a big star yeah big big star wheat you up there at the winter or it was on their dad a winner dad a winner so no no sunlight to speak up no Sun oh the sunlight went away pretty quickly and we you know they provided you with enough you know I wasn't freezing I had a lot of mm-hmm what would you call it layers mm-hmm court courts at vortex and were you in a tent were you in a yurt what were you in we dug a structure and then we slept in a tent yeah ahem and I'm sure with it with an operation like that they probably had the plenty of bottled urine yeah as as much as good we'll be right back with Will Ferrell let each other
