in the shade the colors are so bright and beautiful the gold the blue the red the green oh and that pattern check out that pattern i love that beautiful green upper back and the rest of the back is golden yellow a beautiful red body that golden crown a chestnut tail and look at that blue there are so many colors in this bird and check out that orange cape it's beautiful oh [Music] hey why'd he do that do what run out into the sun grab some berries then hurry back to the shade forgot to put on his sunscreen well he obviously doesn't want to stay in the sun too long hey guys i think i know why sunlight has beams of ultraviolet light ultraviolet light can bleach or fade color [Music] so he leaves the shade go gets his berries and then rushes back to the shade huh so for this bird to take such good care of his color that means color must be very important for golden pheasants but why i think the answer might have just arrived look the hen is kind of plain well yeah they have to be brown and tan like the ground and leaves so they stay hidden when they're sitting on the nest [Music] that means they need to protect their color because that kind of color is attractive the hens love it yes so the golden pheasant colors are for attracting mates the more colorful the more attractive the most colorful males father the most chicks collar can be a really important thing wow he's a turtle in a box you mean a box turtle yeah but he's in a box see he shows like a box that closes up and he's in there so he's a box kind of like a jack in the box but he's a turtle okay [Music] actually he's a she see when the bottom of the shell is flat it's a girl if it was cups like this it'd be a boy i wonder where she's going maybe she's going to see her babies only one way to find out such a fun little fruit fly i'm gonna miss you juice well at least he had a happy long life it was actually really short only five weeks but that's a long life for fruit flies right well i guess if you put it that way yeah he did have a long life for a fruit fly fruit flies hatch out of an egg after 24 hours they are then a larvae for four days a puberty for another four then a fly for about six weeks so a fruit fly's entire life is only 51 days he lived to a ripe old age for a fruit fly whoa a scarlet macaw here's a bird species that lives a long time parrots like the scarlet macaw can live to over 80 years hmm in memory of juice i'm gonna name you juice two it's good to hear my cause live for a long long time at least longer than the original juice i'm glad that you'll be around for a while [Music] wow 80 years that's close to 100 does any animal live that long yeah i know where there's an animal that can live to be over 100 years old really where the galapagos silence [Music] if watching the bigger fish well there you go it's not all instinct not all natural born skills animals have to learn how to use their creature powers even some fish and they have to practice cricket that's the next target quick quick the slow motion camera yeah camera ready aim and launch oh yeah right on arrow uploading slow motion instant replay okay first things first an archer fisher can spit water arrows with accuracy from almost any angle when he's ready he locks down his gills and sucks in the water next he aims and shapes his mouth for the perfect water glob shape and then he lets it rip check it out it starts as a short stream of water and then the back end of the water catches up to the front end to form a powerful glob by the time it reaches the target then it hits with max power and force knocking the bug into the water [Music] wow the shape of the mouth that's one of the keys that controls how the water moves to make it form a glob in midair and check it out he has to figure in the force of gravity and the distance to achieve perfect accuracy oh boy this is going to take practice lots of practice i really need that suit well chris look we're right in the middle of
