hello I'm shank and this is my latest we portable the we vision just like all the other we portables on my channel it's made using a real we instead of an emulator this gives it perfect compatibility with every single GameCube and Wii game without any of the slowdowns or glitches that come from emulation but unlike my other portables this is a remake and remastering of the very portable that inspired me to pick up a soldering iron for the first time this is the story of the Wii vision inspiration takes many forms and for me it took the form of a YouTube video I saw on Christmas Eve 2012 having never seen a portable before Jonathan Shay shines envision blew my mind GameCube games in a portable with real hardware it was one of the coolest most beautiful things I'd ever seen and it was something somebody had made I wished I could make one but then I thought to myself I don't know anything about electronics I could never make anything like that I sent it to a few friends cooked like and closed the tap it was only a few years later that I started down the journey of making a portable myself but that's a different story for a different day Shay's and vision has always been an inspiration to me but it was by no means perfect it was a product of its time and since its creation in 2011 3d printing low-volume circuit board manufacturing and the Wii portable izing revolution have completely changed the game of building portals I reached out to fellow friend portable Iser youtuber and envision fan G man of G man mods to team up and Riaan vision one of the most iconic and polarizing portables ever made by far the biggest change since 2011 is the death of game keep or doubles and the rise of wee portable isin not only do weaves play GameCube games with perfect compatibility they can also run Wii games Virtual Console we wear emulators homebrew and more we's use way less power and generate much less heat using the Wii with modern battery cells means our portable will get more than double the battery life all while running cooler and quieter than the original envisioned Wiis also have native 480p out so we won't need to burn an elusive GameCube component cable like the original envisioned since both the Wii and the 5-inch screen we're using our 480p there's no deinterlacing or scaling making video crisp and extremely low latency trimmed we motherboards are smaller than trimmed GameCube motherboards and require less supplementary components this gives us a lot more room on the inside to breathe I also decided to throw in a wavered receiver in a wheeze Bluetooth module this will let me connect wavebird controllers for GameCube player to an external Weaver motes to play motion games with external controls the case for the Wii vision isn't pocket-sized like my last portable but it has a much bigger 5-inch screen the original case was vacuform from polystyrene like many portables at the time screw posts and components had to be gluten this meant the internals were a little yanks for our build we'll be using a 3d printed case g-man and I spent quite a bit of time digging through old threads and photos to figure out the dimensions of the case we tracked down the obscure third party game pads Shea used for controls and slowly tuned the case through several iterative test prints once the final iteration was printed a smooth finish is achieved through six hours of wet sanding with 220 320 500 and then one thousand grit sandpaper all components are mounted using screw posts keeping the internal sturdy clean and easy to disassemble for repair we stayed very true to the original exterior design that also took time to make a few improvements we used a newer screen of the same size and resolution moved the speakers from the rear to the front moved the fan exhaust from the bottom to the top and replaced the power switch with a power button disk drives are giant slow power-hungry inconvenient and generally suck overall shaysing vision used a vici fusion mod chip to load games through an SD card limited to 32 gigs Wiis on the other hand can be modded using software to load games directly through USB flash drives without needing to track down a modchip the Wii vision will load all its games through this tiny 128 gig flash drive and a second port will be added to use other accessories like controllers and adapters the original envisioned use older and less efficient hand wired regulators it also required both an external lithium charger and a second power supply to be into two ports on the bottom two charging for our build g-man designed a brilliant little custom circuit board to handle all our battery management and voltage regulation needs our portable can be charged through pretty much any DC power source through a single barrel jack on the bottom it also has a multi-function RGB LED to show battery level charging status and more g---men does a great job of explaining all its extra functions in his video so be sure to check it out I've put a ton of hours of gameplay into this portable since completion including a full run of Twilight Princess start to finish I Nick picked on the original portable but I really love the design the whole portable just fits snuggling my hands and the screen to body ratio looks extremely sleek the shoulder buttons and sticks are unusual but feel way better in the hands than I expected I love the vision Shea head for this portable and I'm proud that gia and I were able to take it beyond its original limitations portables are extremely expensive and time consuming but it's a hobby I love doing it blows my mind how much the channel has grown in the past few months the amount of love and encouragement I've gotten from my past two videos is completely insane I've read every comment so far and reply to as many as I can I'd love to hear your thoughts suggestions questions or anything else down below I have a lot of projects in the pipeline including several portables so consider subscribing if you want to see more and if you want to send my videos to your Gamecube loving friends that'd be pretty cool too if you want to see work-in-progress and sneak peeks of what's to come check out my discord Twitter and Instagram links in the description I also have a second channel where I upload more casual and technical videos of gameplay and internals and of course if you want to learn to make your own you should definitely check out the bit belt net forums there are tons of guides and work logs there to show you the ropes as well as a loving and supportive community that's all for this portable thanks for watching and I'll see you next project [Music] you
