Why the North Caucasus is stereotyped by Russians? | Meeting locals in Pyatigorsk

[Music] the music that you hear is a traditional caucasus song caucasus is an absolutely unique region of russia with its own music ethnic groups languages cultures and traditions it's located in the very south of russia and today the locals and i will show you one of the liveliest cities of this region patti gorsk good morning from fatty gorsk and the morning here starts not with a cup of coffee but with a bath in one of the natural springs of the city pettigo is full of natural springs for bath and also of mineral water for drinking these bats behind me are folk bath they're named so because anyone can come here to have a bath for free and some people also name them shameless bath because there are some individuals who come here at night to swim naked because why not but honestly i would call them shameless because people get in the bath breaking the line and well there is no point in arguing with babushka they're so hot these are actually hydrogen sulfide bags so you can imagine the smell here the view on the city is amazing though [Music] petty course is one of the cities in the group of resorts named caucasus mineral waters in 1803 the useful properties of the water here were discovered and alexander the first issued a decree to make a fine resort here now caucasus mineral waters is a group of seven cities an ecological zone that is specially protected by the russian federation people love to come here because of the nice climate dozens of resorts and lush nature here is what the locals say about living in this city is the caucasus is a region occupied by armenia azerbaijan georgia and parts of southern russia the north caucasus belongs to russia and consists of seven republics and two regions the culture is so different here that the locals always differentiate russia and the caucasus and believe that their way of life is nothing like in other regions of russia um [Music] [Music] guys meet vardan he's a local here he was born in pettigoers lived here for his whole life and he volunteered to show me some interesting routes in the city probably some non-touristic and cool places of pettigorsk is [Music] you can leave a message to warden on instagram and he told me that he could be a local friend and show you around you should be able to understand russian though because he doesn't speak english i'm back home i need to take a shower after that bath actually i don't feel that smell anymore i guess i'm just used to it but people can get a bit surprised by that smell so it's better if i wash it off i rent a house here in patagorsk that's actually a private house this is our courtyard and it's more popular to rent a private house here rather than an apartment because there are so many private sectors in this city and let me show you around a bit of this house in this courtyard there are three houses this one this one they are only building it and i live in that house and i really like how spacious this area is and that there are so many fruits growing here like grapes look at this and they're so good [Music] also look how many cherry plums there are [Music] look at my harvest guys i think i can stop going to supermarkets of course timo has to check everything i even found some peach look at him he likes peaches just look at him he is calling me outside [Music] oh no i was leaving my house and he wants to go with me no please stay at home i'm gonna come back soon no go back home please why is he so cute well this is the neighborhood where i live walnuts grow everywhere here as you can see where actually in the city center it's around 200 meters from the central market it's really popular to live in private houses here and almost everyone has the garden and the vineyard this one is huge has so many grapes look at this garden caucasus is also very famous for its hearty delicious food every region of the caucasus has its own cuisine and here in patti gorsk you can find all of them if you're ever in petagorsk this place kohni mira is a must visit to enjoy the food of the carcasses for example this one is a traditional dish of cabardina balcare region huchin a flatbread with different feelings inside hachapuri is georgian food it's a bakery with cheese and egg shashlik or grilled meat is said to be the best in the carcasses and this bright green drink is terhun it's carbonated soft drink flavored with tarragon a plant that grows here in the caucasus this drink was super popular in the soviet union and it's still popular now try it when you visit russia vardan and i enjoyed the delicious food and then he talked about why the caucuses is sometimes so differentiated from other regions of russia um [Music] once you're in the carcasses you will immediately feel that this place has a strong temper as well as its hot-blooded locals you will want to try the cuisine of every republic and probably stay in a private house pick up fruits from your own garden and simply slow down to notice the beauty of the caucasus mountains around you [Music] pettigo is a melting pot of cultures people from all the republics of the caucasus come to live here as it's one of the biggest cities in the region every republic of the caucasus is so unique and has its own languages and traditions but still all the people from the caucasus are united foreign i'm now waiting for my bus to grozny i will be leaving patagorsk for several weeks and going to chechnya republic of russia the governments of the u.s canada and some other countries actually highly recommend their citizens not to go to the north caucuses including chechnya due to terrorism kidnapping and some other activities there but i've decided to check if that propaganda is justified or not you will see my next video from chichnya thank
