[Music] [Applause] [Music] i think switzerland is as close to an ideal country as you can get close to ideal because a perfect country doesn't exist but it's right up there whether it's true or not we'll find out today talking about emotions the first thing that you feel when setting foot here is immense tranquility [Music] throughout the entire nine days of my trip i had a feeling that i was in the most peaceful place on earth and i'm not in the fair islands with a population of fifty thousand switzerland has a population of eight million and people lead a normal life still this place is extremely calm [Music] at first i thought it was because i mainly visited villages where life tends to be slower paced but big cities turned out to be the same this is magic switzerland adds around 20 years of life to how you behave so even if you are 25 years old i doubt you'll feel like rushing somewhere or doing extreme sports makes you want to sit on a bench which are just about everywhere spend the whole day appreciating your surroundings it's clear why so many celebrities come here when they get older this country is made for relaxation you just want to sit gazing over this beautiful valley enjoying the views with all of that being said there's also good financial reasons to live here switzerland has the second highest average salary in the world at sixty two thousand two hundred eighty three dollars a year you don't have to take out your calculators that's more than five thousand one hundred ninety dollars a month not bad right it's clear that the economy is doing well here but to experience an even greater sense of comfort you need more than money you also need to feel completely safe switzerland excels in this area too it's one of the most neutral countries in the world distancing itself from almost any block or faction let's take a look at a map of europe the eu member states are marked in dark blue here see the gray spot in the center that's switzerland switzerland isn't a member of the eu or nato in fact it's so neutral that the last time they participated in a war was 200 years ago that was in a war against napoleon it's interesting how a country in the middle of europe has managed to avoid war for 200 years the country's geography plays a big role in this all right a little bit of a strange analogy but bear with me switzerland is like a hot dog and the mountains are analogous to the bread making it difficult to attack the defensive strategy in some ways hopes that a potential enemy will open a map see the landscape and decide to steer away for easier prey most bridges are built in a way that in case of war they can be easily demolished the same goes for mountain passes but that's not all the army is actually pretty good as well actually military service is obligatory it's one of the last countries in europe where it's mandated even though there were two separate votes aiming to end compulsory military service in both cases people voted to leave the law as is the swiss army is approved by the vatican which is why it's the swiss who protect the pope moreover you can legally carry a gun and according to the stats half of their population has one a gun can be bought in a cute shop like this one so we have a grocery store here and a gun shop next to it and there are lots of these around the country a rifle starts at around 200 euro and you can get a machine gun if it's in your budget interestingly less than 1 out of 10 000 deaths are caused by a firearm since i'm not a citizen i can't get a rifle but locals don't even need a passport to get one all they need is their residence id simple as that easy let's talk about safety in 1963 these guys approved a law that states that every local must have access to a bunker in case of a possible nuclear war so the government got to it and built bunkers all across the country the biggest one not just in switzerland but in the entire world is what you see now the sondenberg tunnel which can provide long-term accommodation to 20 000 people it's capable of withstanding a one megaton explosion within a one kilometer radius despite the swiss's neutrality bunkers are everywhere this one is in a mall parking lot all old buildings have one fully ready to be used what's fascinating is that these bunkers can still house 115 of the population providing more than enough space to the existing residents now you know where to go if the tension heats up a little bit switzerland is often called a well-fortified bunker in the middle of europe and now you know why the country's political neutrality and its security also aid the local financial system which is why people keep their money here lots of money according to statistics there are more banks than dental clinics the rates at local banks are non-existent if you deposit over 1 million the rate becomes negative meaning that you pay the bank to safeguard your wealth reliability local bank notes are also quite nice they're like instagram stories vertical attend frank's note was recognized as the most beautiful note in the world in 2018 keeping in mind everything we've talked about so far and the local sites that we will soon discover make this place a pensioner's dream switzerland is ranked second in the world after japan for life expectancy which is why so many people dream to retire here celebrities have moved here because of it including nobel laureate herman hesse audrey hepburn vladimir nobikov koko chanel eric moriah remark and charlie chaplin all buried in switzerland as for local pensioners they are happy and carefree people and i just love watching them this place is perfect for them the swiss are very accustomed to the rules established in their country and don't get me started on this because the local laws on noise ordinances are on another level to keep your neighbors happy on weekends it's illegal to mow the lawn or wash your car with high pressure equipment including everything else that makes sound here for example street artists are banned svetlana who works for a large american firm will shed some more light on this [Music] unfortunately i can't disclose the company name but it's a place where everything is free love it our company gives such a special survival pack to every expert who's just moved to the country it includes a book that teaches you how to live in switzerland one of the rules that surprised me is that you can flush the loo after 10 pm since your neighbor may call the police or bang on the pipes they'll call the police for this yep or for example did it happen to you nope i'm quite lucky you live with bad ones during a two-week business trip to new york my 15 year old daughter begged me not to bring the grandparents over and to let her stay alone so my secretary called at night to say that the police called because my daughter was loud turned out she was just playing guitar with her friends swiss dogs don't park i have no idea how they train them but they don't park there are no stray dogs around but pets never bark regardless of the breed apparently noise ordinances go beyond people since kratzlingen is located in both switzerland and germany i assume that it was a german dog previously if your dog wouldn't stop barking you would be compelled to cut its vocal cords out whether you like it or not this raised protests but the government proved that no harm was done to the animal during the procedure but barking is definitely not on we're now in the german part of kurzlingen it's the same city but look at the contrast garbage bags are on the streets everything is kind of similar but still very different the craziest law in switzerland though states that you must pee sitting down is sitting while you pee also a rule to reduce noise no it's for hygienic purposes since when you stand in pee there may be splatter which you eliminate by sitting down women know about this men know about it as well of course they stand while peeing at bars and restaurants but they always sit when they're at home this is switzerland for you god forbid you stand while peeing at home flush the toilet and get a fine in the end oh and by the way parents in switzerland aren't allowed to give their kids names that may later affect their future for swiss law you cannot have just one social pet it's considered isolation which equates to animal abuse so you cannot just have one guinea pig the same goes for fish and parrots everyone needs a match there's also a dog tax governed by the dog's size and weight all dog owners must pass dog training and be able to take care of their pets also you can't just go and fish in switzerland you need a special license to fish no one here can fish without it it's a special permit that you get after a fishing course where they teach you how to catch and release so you don't hurt the fish it's not in pain when you eat it but you may hurt it when you unhook it so you learn how to handle specific types of fish after the course you're free to fish everywhere to some the local laws may seem strange but since the swiss are routinely ranked as some of the happiest people perhaps these laws help you
