Why Sonic Games Suck

hey kid what you doing watching this stupid film don't you want to have fun playing sega sega wrong answer pal show him damn it sonic you did again [Music] ah the 90s truly it was a magical time furbies were as rare as gold america was allowed to supersize their heart attacks and google launched hello hey how's it going oops it was a magical time but more notably and the topic of this video a certain game franchise appeared on the scene from a certain company [Music] sonic the hedgehog [Music] [Applause] it was a franchise to fight against the gaming overlord known as nintendo after all genesis does what ninten don't mario vs sonic a rivalry that still goes to this day in the gaming landscape an iconic cool simple and oh so stylish design and yet there is this shadow it's a shadow that the games despite being part of a long-running series that's been going on for 30 years at this point and that shadow says disgusting black creature and that shadow says the games aren't that great ah this was never really a great franchise and then we keep trying and trying and trying to find this thing that was never really actually there sonic was never good sonic was never sonic was never good but why is that what is this mysterious shadow that plagued the sonic franchise and why has this dark shadow influenced people into thinking these games are terrible well my friends i'm common and this video will dive into that question hopefully we'll come to an answer there may be a number of butthurt fanboys one my head and a pike will happen who knows join me as we unveil this mystery of the internet and try to figure out the reason why sonic sucks or where the thoughts of this came from [Music] because [Music] i'm gonna be honest i'm not the biggest sonic fan hell it's only recently that i started back into the franchise with a few gazes here and there and that's thanks to the sonic movie the last sonic game i remember buying for myself was sonic adventure 2 battle for the gamecube and that being said i do recall the games where people freaked out the princess uses the emeralds to wake up sonic and then and [Music] wow can't say i've ever seen that before as well as on november 12 2017 i decided to play the newly released sonic forces live on twitch.tv and really the main fact for why people don't like sonic nowadays stems from the fact they transition into 3d most of the time it's mostly about the 3d games that are met with the unrelenting criticism and don't get me wrong there are legit criticisms to be made like the only thing i can defend psycho 6 wars that has kick-ass music and that's pretty much it i mean you've heard his world right [Music] but at times people tend to hyper focus on the negatives of the 3d titles even with some really really off-putting criticisms of the games does this make the boss fight hard no he's easy as crap if it's so easy then what's the problem this is trying to find every little thing to complain about in this regard when critics and players come to complain about the honest of things in order to make the games look worse that's more or less focused on the older 3d titles obviously titles that came up from the beginning of the era of 3d aren't gonna be perfect heck there are even issues that i could point out with mario 64. again this isn't to say that sonic games aren't above criticism but some of that curriculum isn't really valid nor is it really representative of the actual product's quality we're talking about games that are about over two decades old at this point obviously using today's standards for games when there's going to be a severe lack in quality in some departments it'll be different depending on each game don't get me wrong sonic boom and forces yeah those deserve criticism and a lot of it is valid but that shouldn't dictate that all sonic games are bad yes sonic has a spotty track record but for some reason there was this pervasive mindset that culminated in the video game community sonic was never good so where in the world did this come from [Music] i've always been critical of critics even made an entire video about that on the main channel despite the phrase everyone's a critic we've seen the rise of internet critics and those who talk about video games in a more analytical manner or just act like idiots for entertainment and hey that's perfectly fine i don't have an issue with either of those hell this channel right here is more focused on the analytical side of video games or i hope it to be so what's my problem uh when are you guys gonna play a good sonic game for once they don't exist [Applause] it's when these people spread this kind of bs i liked sonic adventure dx like let's go back to pro jarrah for a moment there are a lot of issues with his review that managed to accumulate well over 3 million views with over 50k likes on said video that gives an impression that the video has some level of credibility to it right isn't that cute and back [Music] and that's just basically scraping on the surface and how he misrepresented a story and gameplay and hey i wouldn't have much of an issue with opinions if it wasn't for the fact that not only are these opinions dishonest but they're also used to prop up the idea that the game is bad this game sucks it sucks really really bad i know there are people willing to say that just because someone isn't good at a game that doesn't equate to the overall product nor does it mean that their criticisms are invalid unfortunately when it comes to mediums such as video games we do need to consider a person's level skill in the game we'll get on people like dean takahashi for getting stuck in a tutorial in cuphead but suddenly when we see gameplay like this that's not it look at him sinking look at him sinking just like maybe just like this is quality because of how we don't know how to do the light jump but the one time we actually wanted to explain oh wait hold on hold on it's like a oh wait no that's just oh my god do you like hold the buttons that's what i was thinking but how many lives yeah [ __ ] girls i just could play sonic for a while right am i right okay am i right i [ __ ] press b it doesn't work you gotta be [ __ ] kidding me with this i think basic functionality they get oh i have to get it yeah uh oh light dash all right thanks we're giving these people a free pass why i think there might be something wrong with the players who are critiquing the games and i could fill this entire video with examples of terrible gameplay or shoddy playing or just you know being dumb but that get real old real quick and despite that some people say that it's all for entertainment i have a question in that because in the two examples i just showcased with example peanut butter gamer and jeff they spend their play through criticizing the game um light where's the light jump all right so actions it must be like a contextual action uh a search for oh you just went past it there's no matches for light so there's a there's a specific jump i'm supposed to do and it doesn't tell you how to freaking do adventure to light dash how do i form a light dash [Music] well it's the action button on a controller is b and keyboard is whatever i tried it which keep falling down yeah yeah my bad i had to pick up the light shoes what you need to pick up the other pick of the light shoes dude where are the light shoes i don't know maybe up there with that handle oh yeah i have no idea maybe that's why i didn't understand what was happening oh there they are that would have been how i can do it that would you know would have been more helpful than try using the light dash you can use the light dash with the shoes i mean if you're going to design your game where that's okay if he was the if he was there to like teach you how to do okay he made it press b button to get them okay he made it sound like you could already do it yeah that's what i was so confused about i was like why i thought i saw this handle i thought that was an alternative path you could take there we go they're using their own ineptitude in order to slam the game making it worse than it actually is and it happens throughout their entire play through and then there's him aaron game grumps hanson and now that i'm effectively paying a bullseye on my back for the lovelies to string me up off to hang myself i think it's apparent that i do not like aaron hansen for a multitude of reasons and one of which being that he tends to be a hypocrite yes aaron making a satirical cartoon on creators is bad so it's actively making people who play a game series seem like they have bad taste in games too not to mention actively shaming people who are making animations that you're doing right now aaron hansen of the game grumps has ragged on about sonic and how all sonic games are bad publicly multiple times and even did so at a live venue did you hear that you're [ __ ] right even if you want to give the excuse that aaron is trolling and putting a persona a concept that i kind of disagree with and i'll explain why later that doesn't change the fact that his statements and wide audience does have an influence i just showed people agreeing with the concept and people who've never played these games will accept that the man who apparently doesn't know how to read simple instructions and blames the games he plays is right about this subject now i'm sure there are people going to be saying but aaron is playing a character it's all for laughs right which is why this clip exists [ __ ] dicks bro you actually just destroyed a lighting system in here oh i had to think on me oh yeah oh sonic oh sonic best game 2016 best game of the century bro oh so good [ __ ] my [ __ ] dude [ __ ] raw with 30 dicks one after another fill me up with this i think uh i think this might be at the end of our like in the black knight play through i tried you know i tried i clearly tried hey aaron hey how's it going it's going okay brother everything's [ __ ] honky dory that's a call back so uh oh you fix it you fix it this is the light that got broken but it looks good i threw the cushion because the cushion got thrown everything that cabinet was punched several times yep yep i'm um absolutely livid right now um i don't know what to say uh and i've gotten tweets that this game is great uh that people really enjoy it um but you know what uh it's not dude jack and barry are looking at you through the mirror it's not it's not great it's the absolute worst experience on planet earth this is the torture this is chinese torture dude they [ __ ] off oh yes it's a character which is why the staff there is genuinely concerned especially when they know aaron was apparently being violent and another guy getting treated poorly or how about that one time when aaron his co-host danny docks to walk through ryder so you shouldn't have much trouble locating the emerald pieces what the [ __ ] is wrong with him i know like what is actually wrong with this guy hold on i'm [ __ ] what the [ __ ] help does he think he's providing anybody i'm gonna look i'm gonna say the name out loud because people are going to think that yeah it's uh the fact walk through by pizza i only say this because um uh people will think we're making this [ __ ] up it's it oh it's embarrassing i know people are gonna say things like darren's the one who did it or they apologize for this stuff dan works for aaron aaron didn't take issue with what dan was doing the stuff was uncentered initially which caused the person who made the walkthrough aaron was too incompetent to understand getting harassed and to make matters worse later the two try to pass it off and misrepresent the situation i remember when stuff like i remember there were moments where we were like [ __ ] we really [ __ ] up we got to delete that episode and it's like i don't even remember what it was and nobody ever mentions it did we delete the episode no oh cool it was dumb it wasn't even like we didn't like say something horrible we just like did something shitty and everyone was like oh that sucks it's it oh it's embarrassing this faq is dedicated to my friend who has stuck with me laughed at all my lame jokes and humored me a lot more than i actually deserved and she was also really impressed when i wrote this walkthrough i mean he must have hated her considering the quality of this walkthrough this is dedicated oh the worst what i just like his name is lead foot yeah that's not that's not a cool nickname yeah that's true actually they call me the lead foot because my walk-throughs are like rocky with lengthy they call me lead foot because my walkthroughs are like driving a car paddle to the metal into a brick wall oh i better remember what it was oh yeah it was the one we were like making fun of that walk through uh from like 1992 but like we gave too much information and people figured out who the guy was who oh where's this last [ __ ] emerald i don't even care you should be able to find it on your own aaron he he wrote this by the way in 2004 oh so if he gets a wave of hate from our fans won't he be surprised 11 years later and then people were saying like we doxed him [Music] and then he came out he was like uh it's not a big deal yeah he's like i don't care i thought it was kind of cool yeah [Music] but hey don't let that get in the way of a good lynching dude i love lynching yeah it's like my favorite thing it's fun especially youtube let's players i'm just gonna feel like a big dick if we're like saying how not a big deal that other time was and in the course of doing so we create a new controversy for ourselves yeah i don't really buy that it's a character hey this is post.com i just wanted to reiterate that i'm using these clips not to say that aaron is a bad person but just to point out that i think that his character in his videos is not really a character and to expand upon that i want to say that i feel he puts too much emotion into it not to mention it kind of leads to some very big issues because it was a character then they'd probably wouldn't you know put them in the final products look you can disagree with me on that i'm just saying i don't buy this as a character that he puts on so that's just me you can disagree with it like that i just want to make sure that you'll know that i'm not saying that i think he's a bad person for doing these sorts of things people are human they make mistakes just want to put that out there okay let's get back to the video and sorry i just realized i put this on the most awkward and ugliest picture i could my bad and you're wondering why i believe game grumps pro jared peanut butter gamer or any other big youtuber or critic who does this is a problem for sonic hell not just for sonic but for any game and series that's in the world it's because of their large followings they're on the fact that more than likely these people's audiences are filled with impressionable people who can't actively think for themselves or form their own opinions we've seen people act like lemmings nowadays and just follow the popular person's opinions you need only look at comment sections that criticize aaron and egoraptor and you'll see people who are disagreeing with them we see this all the time that they cultivate an echo chamber even though they're wrong about things it doesn't matter this echo chamber will remain if these guys think sonic is bad then sonic is bad and the saddest thing it's that the sonic team and sega have to deal with this stuff because if they didn't it would be turned around as if sega doesn't care about the consumer saying anything else is nothing more than a whisper in the wind sega and more particularly the sonic team have shown themselves to be licking their wounds and appealing to these critics and it's gone to the point where they'll now just essentially be doing self-deprecation humor for the memes instead of having people laugh with them they're getting people to laugh at them oh and introducing cringe-inducing characters like irish the hedgehog in an attempt to seem hip and cool and funny funnily enough sonic team's been writing the tales of success of sonic mania even though that game was made by those who made fan games so i don't know what the hell they're smoking also why the hell is aaron being created in the book of sonic mania but regardless the reason why sega and sonic team put up with this is because the popular youtubers who share their games and as you can say any publicity is good publicity oh you shut your mouth and look at my wad even if your last actual work was a piece of garbage and is only helping to make your franchise work works in the process who cares you're getting everything that's not a good work attitude [Music] look i'm not a huge fan of sonic not because i think the games are outright bad but because of how the franchise has been going for the past few decades the franchise has seen success obviously if it's around this long it had to be successful in some regard in order to keep it alive for the past three decades and with the news of a new sonic game being announced last year i worry what's gonna happen to it for many factors some of which are listed in this video i want the next game to be a good game not one that can appeal to the critics not one that can make the game grumps rage at the screen of it i just want a good sonic game is that too much to ask [Music] approved
