why do people file it growing avocado tree [Music] I see trees so there's a few things that you can do to help you successfully grow avocado trees so that you'll have a beautiful tree like this Laden in avocados firstly they need perfect drainage so if your soil is not perfect if it's not read free draining soil then build yourself a great big mound so you can plant it on we've spent a lot of time actually putting together some beautiful sandy loam lots of organic matter and to create the mound before we even plant the tree and that's really important because what we want to do is we want to encourage this avocado tree to make all these surface roots in this mound and it's really important to the success of the avocado so once you've got your man you've planted your avocado tree you've then need to mulch it really well with an organic mulch now this is a loose and hay mulch and it's ideal because it breaks down quite quickly and it adds nutrient into the soil but it also retains the moisture so what we want to do is we want to get the avocados with a shallow root system that's throughout this mound and in order to do that we actually water it regularly so we want to keep the soil under this mulch with an even level of moisture in it so that means regularly my watering your avocado tree to keep that soil moist and to encourage those surface roots so it's really really important and as that organic matter you can put gypsum in this as well so they really benefit from an addition of gypsum and that'll all break down and as it breaks down just keep adding more organic matter more mulch to your mound the other thing that is really important is to protect your tree when they're young so they have these beautiful green stems and these are prone to sunburn when they're young before they get a full canopy of leaf it's really important that you actually construct a shade house around your tree to protect it from sunburn and you can see the remnants of our structure here in the background this is what we used to protect this tree when it was small so we had a little house of shade cloth around it that protected it from sunburn and then in the winter if we had the prediction of a frosty night we actually covered this tree to protect it from frost so once it's established to this this size it's much harder but until it gets real nice to military it's really important to protect it from sunburn and frost so that's how you get your avocado going give them all the things they need you'll be cropping beautiful avocados in about three years [Music] appear
