Why Jews Don't Believe in Jesus pt. 1

last Sabbath I talked about John chapter 1 verses 10 through 12 he was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew him not he came unto his own and his own received him not but as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name if you remember last week I talked about what I called the scandal of humanity the scandal of humanity is the fact that that the creator of this world came into this world through you know through the Messiah through his son the Word was made flesh dwelt among us and when the creator came into his own world the world didn't even know him didn't recognize him he came to his own his own received him not that's the scandal of humanity now a several weeks ago I talked about some of the excuses that people typically give for not wanting to believe in Jesus not wanting to follow him and today I want to talk about the question specifically about Jewish people why don't Jews believe in Jesus have any of you had people ask you that question why don't the Jews believe in Jesus Christ if people ever asked you that why don't the Jews believe in Jesus I mean after all if you think about it here the Jews they were the ones who had the scriptures they I mean were the promise of a messiah the promise of a coming Redeemer where'd that come from well they were the people with the promise weren't they and so you would think that it would be more natural for a Jew to believe in the Jewish Messiah that it would be more natural for a Jew to believe in Jesus than it would for a non Jew so what are the reasons that Jews do not with with exceptions with a few exceptions believe in Yeshua to answer that question on a single word Satan you know the adversary the enemy the deceiver the devil the liar but before I explain how Satan deceives what Satan uses as an instrument to keep the Jewish people from believing in the Messiah first let me explain something why Satan does not want Jewish people to believe in Jesus because you think about okay Jews make up a very small percentage of the whole world population so why would Satan be so determined to keep that particular group of people from believing in Jesus there are three New Testament passages that show us the importance of Jews believing in Jesus receiving him one of them is in Matthew 23 you remember this is the chapter when Yeshua rebuked the Pharisees woe unto you scribes Pharisees hypocrites you do this you do that you know exposing all the hypocrisy of the leadership there of the scribes Pharisees hypocrites and then he ends the chapter with these words in Matthew 23 37 where he's mourning over Jerusalem he says o Jerusalem Jerusalem thou that killest the prophets and stonest them which are sent unto thee how often would I have gathered thy children together even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings and ye would not behold your house is left unto you desolate meaning the temples going to be destroyed and now listen to what he says he says for I say unto you you that he's speaking to Jerusalem he says I say unto you ye shall not see me henceforth till ye shall say blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord now blessed is he that comes is the hebrew way to say welcome baruch haba that's just an idiom it means it's welcome somebody comes to your house baruch haba or if it's plural brew brew him habían so he's saying he's not coming back until jerusalem says to him welcome now whether he means specifically the Jewish population of Jerusalem or a significant percentage of the Jewish people or just the spiritual leaders of the Jews whatever you know whatever the specifics are of this some significant number of Jewish people have to say to him welcome we welcome you as our Messiah or he's not going to return until then so I would say Satan has a pretty good reason to make sure that not very many Jews believe in Jesus wouldn't you because he knows that as long as Jews do not believe in Jesus he's not coming back to set up the kingdom another passage just is out of Acts chapter 3 verse 17 this is after the healing of the lame man Peter and John and he's talking to the you know the Jewish leaders there and you know explaining about how this man was healed through the power of Yeshua's name and so forth and the fact that they had handed him over to be crucified and then in verse 17 Peter says and now brethren I know that through ignorance you did it as did also your rulers but those things which God before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets that Messiah should suffer he hath so fulfilled repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord and he shall send Yeshua HaMashiach Jesus the Messiah which before was preached unto you whom the heaven listen to this whom the heaven must receive or retain until the times of restitution of all things which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began so Peters talking here about the fact that he's ascended to heaven and the heavens are going to retain him until this time of restitution or restoration and and this time of restoration is contingent upon the repentance of the Jewish people because he's calling the Jewish people specifically repent ye therefore and then this will be the the times of restoration and then he will send the Messiah back so I would say Satan has a good reason to make sure Jews don't believe in Jesus wouldn't you one other passage Romans 11:11 Paul says talking about the fact that the Jewish people did not recognize their Messiah I mean some of them did a lot of them given the leadership for the most part did not and Paul says I say then have they stumbled that they should fall god forbid but rather through their fall salvation has come unto the Gentiles so because the Jewish people for the most part did not receive him God says okay the Gentiles are going to receive him and then listen to what he says to Gentiles he says for to provoke them to jealousy so God is like the Jewish people for the most part didn't want Jesus so God says in effect okay we'll let the Gentiles have it and then when the Jewish people who didn't want him see what a blessing the Gentiles get from receiving him they'll be provoked to jealousy to want what the Gentiles have that was the Commission and calling so why do Jews not believe in Jesus now listen to what he says after this after he talks about provoking them to jealousy he says now if the fall of them meaning the Jewish people stumbling and not seeing their Messiah not recognize him if the fall of them be the riches of the world know that through their rejection of him riches came to the non-jewish world and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles how much more their fullness for I speak to you Gentiles in as much as I am the apostle of the Gentiles I magnify main office if by any means I may provoke to emulation then which are my flesh and might save some of them for if the casting away of them now pay attention here he's not saying God is casting away them because earlier he says as very first verse you know as God cast away his people god forbid by the casting when he means their casting away of Jesus if the Jewish people's casting away of Yeshua be the reconciling of the world what shall the receiving of them be but life from the dead so you see what Paul's saying here he's saying if the Jewish people rejecting their Messiah brought all these wonderful riches to the Gentile world by bringing the Gentiles in how much more when the Jewish people receive their Messiah how much more will how much more riches will there be it'll be life from the dead so I would say Satan has a pretty good reason to keep Jewish people from believing in their Messiah now why do Jewish people not believe in in Jesus now some of them don't believe in him for the same reason that most Gentiles don't want to believe in him and follow him simply because they don't want to repent but what are the reasons that Jewish people typically state you know if you ask a typical Jewish person why don't choose believe in Jesus you know what is the instrument that Satan uses to persuade Jews to not even consider the possibility that Jesus of Nazareth might have been the Messiah what is the instrument Satan uses the instrument Satan uses to persuade Jews to not even consider Jesus as the Messiah the instrument Satan uses is the church the Gentile church specifically two aspects of the Gentile church one aspect is Christian anti-semitism which is persecution of Jews in Jesus name the second thing Satan uses is the church's preaching of another Jesus their presentation of Jesus a different Jesus from the Jesus of the new testament a counterfeit christ and these two things i want to talk about today the Christian anti-semitism and the churches preaching of another Jesus now it's ironic that here Satan the instrument he uses to keep Jewish people alienated from their Messiah the main instrument he uses is the church and God's plan for the church was to to reconcile the Jewish people to their Messiah and here Satan has used that instrument and used it to drive a wedge to drive them even further away from their Messiah okay first of all let me talk about Christian anti-semitism now growing up I was not raised Jewish but growing up I was not anti-semitic I tell people I was not anti-semitic I was agnostic I didn't know anything about Jews hardly very little because here in Peoria there aren't that starting that many Jewish people you know I've told you before the only Jew that I really knew was my brother-in-law ray and he was just a hippie like the rest of us and you know if somebody harassed him he would call him anti-semites and well they're not harassing me because you're a Jew they're harassing you because you're a jerk but you know that's that's all I knew of a Jew is my brother-in-law ray you know and I believe that there are many other Christians who are like I was Ignace emetic they're not really anti-semitic I mean they might even say phrases like I'm going to Jew him down well and on they but they don't think of it they don't think of Jews when they say that or they it's just like people say he gypped me if you think about gypsies if you say somebody gypped you don't think of gypsies but where do you think that term came from so I think there's a lot of Christians that they are not consciously anti-semitic they're just agnostic they don't know anything about Jews and Judaism even people in the church I remember some years back my wife was talking to a lady who was educated she had gone to Bible College and Teresa mentioned something to the woman about the fact that you know they were talking about Jewish people and and you know the fact that they don't believe in Jesus and Teresa said well one thing that makes it hard for them to believe is is because of all the anti-semitism that they've suffered for hundreds of years and this lady Christian lady who's been to Bible College says what's anti-semitism I mean she didn't even know the term you know and that's pathetic now Christian anti-semitism as I said anti-semitism means we're talking about persecution of Jews in the name of Jesus persecuting Jews because they won't believe in Jesus that's anti-semitism Christian anti-semitism and one right to point out that there are basically three stages of anti-semitism Stage one
