[Music] [Applause] hey guys welcome to the video today in today's video we're going to talk about why your garage door might be opening by itself we're going to talk about a few of the different reasons and then i'll talk about probably one of the more common reasons that this is happening so um you know the first thing you want to look at is your garage door remotes and you want to make sure that they're in good working condition and like the button isn't getting stuck down you also want to know like where are you storing your garage door remote at when you're not using it you know is there something nearby they could be you know pushing down on it or falling down on it and causing it to open the garage door so um you know that's one possible option let's take a look at some other options all right guys you could also have damaged wiring in your keypad or in your garage door control panel or in your garage door motor unit or even one of your garage door safety sensors there's one on each side of your garage door on the garage door tracks and they're meant to open the garage door back up if the signal in between them is interrupted but if your garage door is just opening by itself on its own there's a potential problem with the um you know connection between the two sensors so it could also be the wiring between the garage door safety sensor and the garage door opener and if it's any of these things that we just talked about you're going to want to get a hold of a qualified garage door repair technician so they can come out and look at it and diagnose it further and quote you a cost to get it repaired so now that we've talked about these things let's talk about the more likely reason of why your garage is opening by itself all right so now let's talk about what probably the more likely reason of why your garage door is opening by itself did you try to reprogram one of your remotes recently or reprogram your keyless entry your keypad where you punched the pin code in it's possible that while you were doing that one of your neighbors or somebody nearby was using their garage door remote at the same time and it programmed to your garage door opener so now when they're opening their garage they're also opening and closing your garage so you know that's something to take a look at and if that's the case or if you think that somebody else has a garage door remote that's potentially you know opening and closing your garage i'm gonna show you how you can erase all of the codes from your liftmaster garage door opener all right guys there's our liftmaster garage door motor unit and we do have to get up there and look at the back of it so make sure that before you get up on the ladder you take all safety precautions and that while you're on the ladder you're using it safely okay let me climb up the ladder now and i'll show you the back of the liftmaster garage door motor unit all right guys we're looking at the back right side of the garage door motor unit and the yellow circle button right here is the learn button yours may be a different color and if it is just refer to your owner's manual for the specifics on this process and which color your learn button is so um the way we do this is if we hold down the yellow button uh the light next to it will turn on and we're going to hold down the yellow learn button until that light comes on and then turns off and if we do that one time that erases all the garage door remotes and the keyless entry the keypad where we punch our pin code in so let's go ahead and do that now and you can see the light turned on there and we're just going to hold this down until the light turns off and there we go so now the garage door remotes would no longer be paired to the garage door system and the keyless entry the keypad where you punch your pin code in would no longer work as well all right guys so you can also erase all of the my q devices and you do this by holding down the yellow learn button until the light next to it comes on and off and then you release the yellow learn button and then immediately press the yellow learn button down again until the light next to it comes on and off again then you can release the yellow learn button and when you do this um it will erase uh you know all of the garage door remotes uh the keyless entry the keypad where you punch the pin code in and the my q devices so the way i'm gonna go ahead and demonstrate this now we're just going to hold down the yellow learn button there until the light comes on and then off and then we'll let off and then immediately press the yellow learn button back down again until the light comes on and then eventually turns off again there we go so and this demonstration um all the garage door remotes the keyless entry the keypad where you punch the pin code in and your my q devices would be erased from the garage door opener so let's head back down the ladder and we'll test out the garage door remotes and make sure that they're no longer programmed to the garage door all right guys i have both of my garage door remotes here and we can see that neither one of them is working so we did get the codes erased from the known garage door remotes all right guys so if you did have to erase the codes from your garage door opener for your remotes and your keypad you are going to want to test these and make sure that it did erase them from the known devices you do have and then you're going to have to reprogram these and i do have videos showing how to reprogram uh the garage door remotes for liftmaster and the uh keyless entry the keypad where you punch your pin code in for liftmaster as well and i'll link those at the end of this video so i hope this video helped you guys out with some of the more common issues uh that you might be able to do by yourself uh you know such as you know looking over the remote and making sure it's in good repair if there's any issues with the button sticking um you know or you know like in the case that we just saw where you need to erase the codes because potentially your neighbor has a paired garage door remote to your garage door opener and there are some other things where you're just going to have to get a hold of a qualified garage door repair technician and have them come out and look at it and quote your price so um i hope you
