got any stool so it's quite fun got any desks too i mean i could do this all day i mean the challenge is is that the still goes up as well so i have no idea it oh okay well i guess that's the side of the height of that so about two and a half years ago i did this video talking about buying a relic submariner off ebay last month i then did a video talking about my watch collection and there are quite a few comments saying where's the submariner gone so let's talk about it let's talk about why i sold my rolex submariner or we could title this video when tudor is better than rolex let's talk about it [Music] welcome back to buck and jack i am adrian and buying the rolex i'm just going to be spinning around this store all day and it's it's really it's such a smooth action buttery smooth you could say i'm pretty sure i have adhd anyway let's get into it let's add some context to this video to start off with so i was buying my first big watch back in 2013 i think it was i'd been saving for ages i'd sold all my watches i saw all my guitars as well actually i had about two and a half grand i think it was and i decided on well it was between these two watches the omega speed master broad arrow with a white dial and the rolex explorer 2 the 16570 with the white dial or polar dial however you want to call it but the real watch that i wanted was the relic submariner or the no date samara the noted submariner at the time was selling for around three and a half grand i just i didn't want to save any more so i pulled the trigger ultimately on the explorer ii the 16570 i had that for about two years absolutely loved the watch but the challenge was it always reminded me of the note 8 sub it reminded me of not being able to afford that watch and also it just wasn't the watch that i truly wanted so when the opportunity came around for me to buy a new watch and that watch could be the note note8 submariner i went for it for me it made sense it was a watch that i wanted for a long time i had a nice funky watch which was my kermit i had my other daily watch which was an explorer and so i felt like the note 8 sub was just another easy going very versatile watch to join my collection i ended up settling for a watch on ebay a 2004 1460m with box papers and the original receipt and i was buying it from the original owner which i thought was pretty cool i paid six thousand pounds for it which at the time was a pretty decent deal but when i picked it up it was just a big anti-climax it was more exciting doing the deal than actually owning the watch a lot of people and myself included do say that the hunt for the watch is more exciting than the actual watch itself which kind of brings into question do we actually want the product that we're hunting for or do we just enjoy the challenge of trying to find that thing regardless of all of that i'd wanted this watch for so long that i kind of ignored my initial concerns my initial buyer's remorse and just stuck with it the challenge is rolex plays within or rather the market allows rolex pre-owned rolex to play within its own little arena six thousand pounds for rex submarine at the time box and papers in decent condition that was a good deal the challenge then comes with 6 000 pounds for that level of watch isn't a good deal and that's the problem that kind of watch now i'm not hating on the relic submariner the 1460m i'm not hating on any submariner they are iconic watches in the truest sense of being an icon and they are brilliant watches and there's a reason that they trade at this level of cash the problem is i'd already had an explorer an unexciting watch i already have an interesting watch which was my kermit so logically the submariner just didn't really fit within my collection it wasn't exciting nor was it different it was just a very normal watch if i didn't have my explorer then it would probably fit better in my collection if i didn't have my kermit then again it would probably fit better in my collection so logic would say that actually regardless of me wanting that watch buying it was a bad decision logically and also when it comes down to the idea of what are you actually getting for your money again logic then kicks in and it's a bad choice it was even more of a bad choice with the fact that this watch was on the market the tudor black bay 58 now a lot of people say that tudor is a poor man's rolex or you only buy tudor if you can't afford rolex that's absolutely because i had a submariner and i sold it after i got this thing the tudor blackberry 58 it isn't the same complete aesthetic as the submariner there are differences obviously mercedes hands snowflake hands you have the guilt dial we have the the little guilt text in the uh the numerals in the bezel this is a more vintage inspired watch but on paper factually within the specifications of this watch it is far far superior to the relic submariner the 1460m and that's where the challenge began this watch when i got it it stopped me wearing my submariner i didn't need my submariner it's absolute rubbish when people say that you only buy a cheetah because you can't afford rolex the build quality of this the finishing of this is far superior to the submariner so for me i didn't need that rolex text i didn't need that submariner look because i already had it in my um with my kermit i do love the submariner but i just couldn't get my head around the price of it i couldn't see 6 000 pounds in that watch when i found out that i could own a black bay 58 and an omega sea master for the price of a submariner it made no sense keeping the submariner it really was pointless i got the nice vintage submariner look from even more of a vintage look from the blackberry 58 i got the nice beefy dive watch feeling from the omega and the movement inside both of these is far superior to the 3130 caliber i think it is it's a very accurate movement it's a brilliant workhorse of a movement of its time it was superb but new technologies allow for these movements to outperform what was around before especially in the omega it wasn't about money it wasn't about being able to get it i got it i had it i could afford it i bought it it was done it just didn't do anything for me i'm not telling you anything new at all in this video you knew that the rolex prices premium prices are crazy both of these watches are far superior to old rolexes they certainly don't have the timeless design that the relic submariner has in 50 years that relic samaritan 1460m will still be that timeless design it will still be an incredibly cool looking watch it will still be highly instagramable or whatever photo sharing app there will be these two watches the 58 and the omega sea master they won't be timeless these things won't be good looking in 50 years time there will be versions of this but they won't be this whereas a submariner it's iconic for a reason have i just argued that the price was justified i don't know where i'm going but that's why i sold my submariner it did nothing for me that doesn't mean it shouldn't do anything for you when i make these videos around me ranting about watches like the hublot i'm not questioning or criticizing your purchasing decisions that's that's not what this is about i'm just sharing my thoughts if you go off on buying uber that's brilliant awesome love it i loved it when people just commented in my hublot hating video uh well it wasn't a hating video it was an analysis video i loved it when people commented saying i love my hublot brilliant more power to you so this isn't criticizing the owners this is just me sharing my viewpoint let me know what your thoughts are not just on a submariner but if you bought a watch that just didn't live up to the hype that you created in your head there is obviously a lot of hype around but we create our own hype as well if you like this video hit that thumbs up button if you like the style of this video hit
