Why I Don't Use DISHWASHER PACKS in My Dishwasher!!! (THE TRUTH) | Andrea Jean

welcome back to andrew jean cleaning let's talk about what we're going to talk about all this stuff here today but let's talk about these really cool fun pack things tri-colored i mean who wouldn't want to use this in their dishwasher i do not use these we will get to them in a second i'm not gonna say i will never use them but it's just not my first go-to one these are pricey little suckers in here there's 18 fresh scent action packs so i'm gonna put a screenshot up here i was in target recently to price these sort of things and so i can get 18 washes with one of these or this bad boy i could probably get like a million no i'm just kidding but i get more bang for my buck when i use some sort of liquid detergent like this now i want to ask you all how many of you have actually read the directions on the back of your dishwasher detergent look at this part right here for best results fill both the pre-wash and main wash cups completely contains enzymes how many of you actually feel this i want to know don't be embarrassed i've been guilty of this too but not now not anymore not anymore my friend i have learned more about dishwashers than i ever thought i would learn before but i like to give you the best here now here's a couple tricks stay to the end because i am going to show you a little trick to keep this running longer and stronger and something that we often neglect when it comes to cleaning your dishwasher and no it's not cleaning with vinegar although that is helpful i do have a whole video on that i will link any helpful videos that could be in conjunction with this in the description box below but stay tuned i'll show you how we uh we take care of business around here without all this extra stuff now these things can be helpful that's for sure let's look at the parts of the dishwasher and then we're going to get into some tricks here one thing is super super quick most dishwashers run on two cycles so there's two sort of rinse cycles now if your hot water does not come out of your sink hot right away which for most people it doesn't you have to turn on the tap and let it run a little while longer your first rinse cycle is going to be cold water which kind of defeats the purpose of cleaning things because we know hot water often breaks down fats disgustingness grease all that stuff that's stuck on your dishes so the little trick here is turn on your tap first because it is connected to your sink i would show you i have a ton of dishes in my sink because i wanted an empty dishwasher for this particular video right here so that for your first cycle it's hot water running on your dishes right away now dishwashers have not changed that much since 1886 the first patent that's crazy now there's a vent right here this helps with the drying process many of you might have your vent on the outside and mine is currently here on the inside you have here this is for a rinse aid guys i'm not totally convinced that these rinse aids actually work i i don't know let me know let me know in the comments box below if you think this really helps dry your dishes faster as far as the spots i mean yes i can attest to that but making it dry faster i don't know i'm just not convinced but i keep buying it because i feel like it's in my brain that this should work better i should really do a good experiment to figure it out but it's just my hunch and then there's two compartments right here you have your pre-wash and then you have your main wash and then when the second cycle runs here on your dishwasher this is when this pops open like so and then your tablet or your pot or your liquid whatever you want drains into the bottom now these are perfectly portioned out so that you have the exact amount of liquid that you would need or dry powder now it says to fill it for hard water you want it all the way up to there but if you have soft water you feel it to hear it now how many of you have actually paid attention to that i know it's these things you just who knew there were so many things to a dishwasher you just supposed to put soap on and then you hit the button and you close it and you come out and yeah and look at all these things on here and we can get to this here in a second this is going to come in handy when i talk about these and how these could really actually be effective but most people aren't doing it the way that they should when they use these dishwasher pods down here you have your sprayer arms so we have one here we have one down in the bottom and then we have a turbo so if we really wanted to get like pots um if you have like a baking pan without a stock on cheese and that sort of thing you would face the pot against these turbo jets and then it would clean it very very well now i hand wash all of my pots and pans just because it takes up so much room in here i'd rather just do it that way if we move over here this main part right here is called the tub by the way which kind of makes sense you like putting your dishes in the tub this is your sensor and so that your water line does not fill above this and then cause a whole bunch of overflow now these dishwashing detergents are designed so that they don't perform bubbles like dawn or something like that can you imagine if you had dawn dishes up in here your whole dishwasher would be like suds running all through your floor i mean that would be terrible so these are specifically done designed to be used in your dishwasher now here's the mistake that most of us make since your dishwasher on a normal cycle runs on two cycles so to speak two rinse cycles what you should be doing if is filling your powder or your liquid detergent here in the pre-wash and then also filling it up here and then closing the tab like so but most people don't even bother with this now your dishes will get clean better if you use this pre-wash just think about it if you hand wash your dishes if you do two cycles so to speak on washing a burnt on pan it's going to be much cleaner than if you just washed it once with some dawn dish soap or and warm water and a scrub pad yes so this helps with the scrubbing power now this is touchless this is kind of like a car wash for your dishes so it's important that you load it correctly so that the sprayer arms can spray the dishes and clean as they need to and the soap can get all throughout your dishes appropriately okay am i the only weirdo that thinks these just smell awesome i mean they are cool they are composed of this outer coating here now there's debate on whether this is environmentally friendly or not but when this touches water that's how it fully absorbed and so the marketing on this is that this is filled with a rinse aid cleaning your dishes everything that you would need is all in one and then you just drop it in here close it well if you are going to do this technically you should only need to run your cycle one time so it would be like a power wash or an eco wash depending upon how it is set up on your dishwasher now i can see that i already got this a little bit wet by dropping it in there and it automatically dissolves now the second reason that i don't use these other than price is that these look like candy i got a lot of kids and if for some reason i accidentally left that open and then they found these they would be all up in this yeah so right on here so if i am going to be using a dishwashing pod what i want to what i would want to be using is this one hour wash right here because this cleans the fastest this runs on one cycle it says for fast results if you can see this use the one hour wash the one hour cycle will allow dishes to receive a quick wash towel drying may be needed but most people when they're using these you're running the two cycles you're putting it on a normal wash so it's running twice well these are designed according to marketing that you only need to run it once because everything that you need is in this one little pocket right here now my personal opinion someone came along and they said well how can we approve the dishwashing experience how can we make things better anybody that designs a product they're trying to solve some particular problem so maybe the problem was that people didn't want to have all these different agents to clean their dishes and so they said well let's put it all in one but here's the thing you guys cascade has done that themselves now it says right here try your ultimate clean this is supposed to clean tackle tough messes um reduce spots and streaks and keep your your machine sparkling if you can see that right there so that's what this is supposed to do now you can buy different levels of this particular product the platinum the complete the original but then let's just look at the front here let's just take a peek here cascade rinse aid and dishwasher cleaner for best results use so they're marketing their other products but i thought this was supposed to be an all-in-one thing yeah that's what it's originally designed and marketed for and i guess some people may say that you know they don't want to have to measure which i don't know in my particular opinion it's not that hard to just squirt it in here squirt it in here shut the tab and let it go so one marketing these things are pricey per ounce and if you are fooled by this you're going to end up buying the extra things anyway so if you are going to use these fun little cool products i'm not hating on them i'm just saying they're not my jam they're not my favorite thing right here you want to put it on probably one hour wash so that it only runs one cycle and allegedly this is supposed to clean your dishes because everything that you need is right here in this little pouch drop it in there and you are good to go now if you are like me and i don't like wasting money on things that don't need to be wasted on i would prefer to use a liquid like this or a powder now i don't prefer the powder and i will share a little trick with you here right now is again if you have cold water running in through your dishwasher on that first rinse cycle it's going to be difficult for it to break down the powder especially if you use this pre-wash department so make sure that you have your hot water running through the line before you turn your dishwasher on now let me show you something here to keep your this is going to be so gross yet so satisfying for you all right down in here there's this sort of vent and i'm gonna pull this out and you're gonna see all the gunk that gets trapped in here so on mine i just did like a little quarter turn oh you guys i pulled this out a week ago when i knew i was gonna do this video just to take a look at it so bad it is so bad let me pull this out here i might need two hands oh here we go here we go you guys look at that look at that film this is why my dishwasher could use some lovin this is so gross so we're gonna clean this and then there's also [Music] oh my word this vent right here yeah so how i'm gonna clean this i'll show you here in a second is oh yuck that probably smells if i get really close in there so yeah you do need to clean your dishwasher i know it's crazy because it washes dishes one little tip here and i've given you a ton of tips here is leave some food and grease on your dishes because these are designed to clang it to the fats and oils and it allows things to get clean overall better when you have stuff on them so don't there's no need to pre-wash your dishes especially if you're running your dishwasher on a normal cycle because it's already running two cycles so this right here oh my word there's two ways that you can clean this you could just take some warm water and vinegar and a little rag or something to scrub this down i'm just gonna use some dawn i'll show you right here again you guys my sink is dirty because i haven't put the dishes in there and i'm doing a video on how i speed clean my sink my favorite way to show you here i would just go like this this is easy i just love this power wash stuff this is not sponsored but i just love the spray action of this um oh yuck like it is so grimy and disgusting now you're going to want to rinse this really well if you are going to use like dawn or something like that because like i said these are specifically designed so that they do not foam and bubble when they're in your dishwasher and so you want to make sure you get any extra residue off there so i'm going to go ahead i'm going to clean these up i'm just going to use a rag scrub it down a little bit rinse them off really really well and i'll show you what we're working with now as far as cleaning these oh this cleaning toothbrush came in handy i would highly recommend just an old toothbrush if you go to the dentist and they give you all those extras or you can even go to the dollar tree or something like that that really helped get in these grooves and up in here on this vent what do you call this what do you guys call this i can't think of what to call this it's like a vent the trap i don't know material that is moving on from that but getting up in here yeah so this is looking much better i don't want to tell you guys how long it's been since i've cleaned this because that would be an embarrassment no i'll tell you because maybe it'll make you feel better about your own cleaning um two years i've not cleaned this out like i just forget about it unless there's a potent smell coming from here i don't really think about it and because i was doing this video i'm like i really need to get in there and clean all that so it kind of worked out so that i could show you the transformation and cleaning this contraption right here i could probably have installed that with one hand here but i just wanted to be sure but it's really easy i just slid that in and then i turned this about a quarter so now it's locked in there if you are wondering what sort of dishwasher this is in case you have one similar um this is a let's see here it's a kenmore yes it's a kenmore elite this was in here when we bought the house about two years ago and i can't i don't know i can't replace it yet i know i would love a stainless steel one or something a little bit more modern but it works it works just fine especially if i clean the darn thing as often as you should now let me know these are not my favorite they're kind of fun they're kind of interesting they're just pricey i don't want my kids getting into them and in most cases i'm probably going to run my dishes on two cycles anyway on a normal cycle wash as this is recommended i may do a video where i actually try this out to see if the dishes are any more dry let me know what you guys all think in the comments box below i love learning from you guys as well and since we're a little extra over here in androgyne cleaning now this one is this finished brand right here 19 wrapper free tabs so they are monopolizing on maybe people not wanting the particular okay it's pva i can't remember what it stands for like poly vinyl alcohol that covers the other ones that i had just shown you so maybe that's what they're trying to maximize on this one now again a lot of people don't love these because they don't break down but use make sure you have hot water running through your line that's a big big thing right there but this says max in one powerful clean every time and then again they're promoting their dryer dishes and then their machine wash cleaner so you guys guys let me know what you think let me know what you think these are designed to do all in one but yet here we are promoting additional products i don't know i mean tide pods are kind of fun too but for the same reasons i don't buy tie pods as i do not buy dishwasher pods at this point if i ever change my mind for any particular reason i will be sure to let you know and this right here was almost seven dollars so that is close to about 50 cents um a little less than 50 cents per wash right here um seven bucks for 19 tablets i don't know that just doesn't seem worth it in my opinion no pre-soak even baked on pasta you know i open these up fun fact here because i am filming a video about cleaning your shower door with that and we saw here it said 19 wrapper free tabs because these have wrappers on them now according the directions you are just supposed to put this in your dishwasher like this you don't take this particular wrapper off so if this is wrapper free i don't know what this is called like are they saying that this would be double wrapped and then it wouldn't be wrapper free i mean i think what has happened this is my personal opinion here is people maybe don't like the pva or whatever this is composed of and because there's you know debate about whether this is environmentally friendly or not and so they've marketed in this way i don't know all right if you enjoyed this
