Leila is one of my favorite four stars in genin but she's often overlooked her main story appearances were in time limited events so people who missed them didn't get a chance to love her as a character her role in combat is one of the least glamorous and she's forever in the shadow of an Aron and to make it worse many guides suggest a hybrid build for her which is misguided in my opinion so her strength tends to be underestimated she's one of the few cases where if I didn't have her I'd be tempted to pull on any Banner she's on despite the risk of disappointment when pulling for a forer since she's made that big a difference to my teams let me tell you why Leila was absent in the sumaru Aron quests and instead has only appeared in the game via events and her hangout quests which I find really sad since I adore her as a character she first appeared during the fabulous fungus frenzy event in version 3.2 this event saw us capture fungi in sumaru and train them like Pokémon Leila was a friendly rival in the competition and I loved her from the moment we met her she's a soft spoken student who is perpetually exhausted and always behind on her work having to pull all nighters in order to finish on time her design is gorgeous one of my favorites in the whole game I relate to her so much when I was in college I invariably left my projects until the last minute we were typically given two to three months to complete each one but I would always start just a week before the deadline and end up pushing through without sleep for the final couple of days in order to finish on time my lectures often gave other people extensions despite saying this is the last time every single time which completely drove me up the wall so Leila really hit aord with me in the fungi event Lea also befriends yiko of all people another one of my favorite things in genin is to see characters from different backgrounds interact so Lea's introduction was top tier for me her other event appearance was in the parade of Providence in 3.6 which stands as one of the best in all of GHIN for me the central event with in the sumaru academia's festival was a competition and Leila was one of the challenges alongside tinari Soo faran cave and hatkey this story was fantastic and revealed some interesting details of Lea's character and backstory she was put forward for the event by her peers and worries that some of them may have done so in the hopes of seeing her make a fool of herself at the same time she's also conscious of living up to the expectations of the ones who truly believed in her her insecurity is heartbreaking and relatable and I was rooting for her to win and then at one point Leila decides to take a nap and her split personality appears apparently while ilila sleeps her Alter Ego is up all night doing research completing tasks and generally making sure everything gets done which is why Leila is exhausted all of the time her body gets no rest this was an interesting Quirk to her character though I always wonder how realistic depictions of split personality in media actually are within the context of the game's story it works well however and makes her Stand Out Lea's hangout Quest was both A Perfect Blend of all the reasons I dislike Hangouts and conclusive proof that the idea I had always thought would fix my problems with them would be just as big a failure in the end it has bouts of excessive dialogue which don't move the story forward poorly positioned checkpoints which require you to sit through those painful conversations multiple times conflicts with other quests which can prevent you from actually playing the damn thing without completing five others beforehand and horrendous thought Buble problemsolving user interface which is the scourge of sumaru and more but despite the flaws her hangout does a fantastic job of showcasing her issues and her strengths unlike many other Hangouts the quest lines are diverse and interesting though spoiled for me by the frustration of dealing with the problems and even better they actually show her going through character growth and on multiple levels no less this was exactly what I had always felt was missing from genin's hangout however as I've been planning to explore in more detail in a future video Lea's growth in her hangout presents a pig problem it's unlikely to be permanent it's hard to tell how each hangout story thread relates to the cannon series of events but for me they feel like alternate timelines as a result Lea's growth in each different thread Is tragically locked away since they can't have all happened simultaneously and instead any future appearances will likely revert her to her traumatized sleep sleepy self while I still love her as a character it's sad that not only are most of her appearances hidden in past events that new players will not experience but whenever she does make another appearance all her character growth will likely be treated as if it never happened Lea first became playable in version 3.2 on a banner with yiko and child as the five stars I didn't particularly want either of the featured characters but I really wanted Leila and since I was on my 50/50 I decided to risk a few temples on y Banner Leila played hard to get and I decided to keep going at around 80 Wishes the star turned gold and yo appeared and to my relief Leila finally came home in the same Temple y has ended up being a great pool too so it was all positive in retrospect but at the time I really just wanted Leila I did a few more ten PS on child's side of the banner in the hopes of more I believe up until losing my 50/50 on this Banner but got no more lelas fortunately she has been on a couple of banners I've wished on since then notably on one with naha so I eventually got her to C6 let's take a look at her kit and my recommended bill for her explore that problematic Bill people often recommend and then talk through her Alternatives and her teams Leila is a cryos sword user with adorably clumsy normal attacks which you basically never use her main purpose is her skill it instantly summons a shield which is among the most powerful in the game and its 12-second duration with 12C cool cool down provides 100% OCT timee her Shield also collects Little Stars over time and once four have been collected it applies cryo to nearby enemies she gains an extra star whenever a character inside her sh'll cast their skill so she can apply cryo much faster than she might seen to at first glance especially when paired with characters with multicast skills like yamiko her burst provides offield cryo damage with some more cryo application and whenever it hits an opponent it also generates another star to power her Shield shooting stars in summary she's a very strong shielder with great up time who also applies Cryer from off field in order to set up reactions for the rest of your team her personal damage contributions are tiny as we'll touch on later when explaining why that often recommended bill for her is kind of awful also if you leave her alone inside her Shield she takes a little nap I love these tiny details when it comes to constellations she's one of those lucky four stars who are fantastic at c0 her C1 is my favorite of her cons since it both increases the strength of her shield and also makes it work in Co-op play her C3 is also fantastic since it increases her Shield Talent level while the rest of her constellations are a bit underwhelming and aren't really worth discussing in my experience the best way to build Lea is as a fully dedicated shielder it's very much worth playing to her strengths and as we'll see in a minute the alternative is not worth it since her Shield scales exclusively of her HP maximizing that one once that is the key to her build as a result her clear best in slot weapon is nilo signature the key of kort which happens to be what my Lea has after some unfortunate weapon Banner Adventures her second best would be Doan assistant which also provides a ton of HP but since it's a force stara weapon it's very difficult to obtain interestingly those are the only two swords in the game with a HP substat Jade cutter also has a small HP passive but unless you're a whale chances are that if you have one you'll have a DPS character who can make better use of its other benefits however if you lack those two then she does have some other viable options vonius can work though it's a little wasted on her since she doesn't need that much ER so you likely have characters who needed more plus you'd have to get her some crit rate and squeez in a normal attack in order to proc its passive an underrated option is sacrificial sword especially in Co-op it provides an extra cast of her Shield though since she has 100% off time already this is only useful against stronger enemies who consistently break her shield and it's so strong that in my experience this is pretty rare outside of Co-op instead it's probably better to just go for a cheap option like the three star Sky Rider sword if you do lack a spare sacrificial sword then it's a comfortable option which doesn't waste resources she doesn't really need anything else also a lot of people have this sword leveled up from early game so you might as well make use of it as mentioned earlier to maximize her Shield strength Lea just wants as much HP as possible on both of my accounts I've built her with a HP sand a HP G blets and a HP circlet plus more HP from her substats she does want a little bit of ER so she can keep her burst available on cool down in order to apply more cryo but since it only costs 40 energy it's very easy to keep it available even if you're lucky enough to have one of those HP swords when it comes to artifact sets she has two competing priorities increasing her Shield strength and providing an extra buff to the team her ideal set is 4p tenacity of the milleth the 2pie set increases her HP and therefore her Shield while the passive provides an attack bonus to the team her kit feels like it was designed with this set in mind and she easily keeps the buff active at all times alternatively four-piece nobless can be a viable option though she doesn't benefit from its two-piece bonus this set ignores her Shield completely and instead focuses on buffing the team a mix of two pie HP sets is also worthwhile boosting the strength of her shield and ignoring the option of providing Buffs so now that we've seen what I recommend let's compare to that alternative build you'll often see people aiming for Lila to provide some damage as an off field DPS but in my opinion this is not worth it the idea is to give her a decent amount of HP to keep a viable Shield while also giving her some cryo damage attack and crit stats where possible in this build you'd give her crit weapon such as Jade cutter Miss splitter or probably her most popular option the three star harbinger of dawn she would usually get a HP sand a cryodamage goblet and a crit circlet for this build with a four-piece Blizzard or four-piece emblem artifact set however no matter how wellb built her damage remains extremely weak the footage you're looking at right now shows Lea using mayaka as weapon and artifact including an attack sand to boost her damage even further and her damage is still negligible and worse her shield in this build is half as strong an absolutely atrocious tradeoff in my opinion and remember you'd also be reducing the damage provided by your DPS character due to removing a four-piece tenacity or nobless buff even with a team built entirely to boost her damage with Shena kazua and thrilling Tales kooky she managed to do 26k damage per tick so somewhere over 100K per rotation varying depending on how many skills the team uses and how many times she causes damage as a result as much as I'd love for her to o work as a subdus she's better off left as a pure shielder in my opinion of course people are free to build their characters as they like and outside of the Abyss none of it really matters anyway but it's just good to be aware of the downsides so how does she compare to the other shielders Jong Lee is her main competition his shield is stronger than hers though in my experience it's not as big a difference as you might think his resistance shred is also useful and he can also use the milless sets for that attack buff I tend to prefer Lea due to cryo being a more useful element plus shly Shield requires you to hold his skill for a second which can feel a little clunky many people do prefer him though diona deserves a special mention since she's the other cryo shielder however she's more of a generalist and provides healing as well as working as a great battery diona Shield is noticeably weaker doesn't have full up time and again requires a hold skill for the stronger form and she's much less comfortable as a result I do use the other shielders a lot bisu Kirara Toma and even Yan all get a lot of play time most of the time the element they provide is the main driver for picking which one works for each team Leila remains my favorite though I don't use her all that often in freeze teams she's a good fit for them but since freeze tends to not need a shield unless you're up against unfreezable enemies I usually use more offensive characters like Shena instead Leila would be a great option if you lack Shena Rosaria or any similar characters though instead for me her main use is in melt or melt Vape teams genshin has a ton of fantastic pyro DPS characters and I happen to have a lot of them build UT Yia CLE Len ging and now arino plus maybe Yan and de look in the future one common theme for many of these DPS characters is that they're designed to be highrisk high reward and as a result Leila is a fantastic support for all of them she's also been my go-to whenever I experiment with physical DPS characters since her Cryer application is fantastic for maintaining super conduct the electro characters who fit best in this team archetype tend to be more attacking focused fishal y Ryden and so on so Laya defensive utility is valuable here she's also a regular fure in one of my noet team since my ottoman is c0 and thus pretty much must be played with a shield he also benefits from having a mix of Elemental reactions so she's a perfect fit for him I've also used her on occasion with Navia who again is happiest when paired with a iety of elements though since she's generally quite comfortable defensively due to all the crystalize shields she generates a shielder isn't as essential in her teams and of course since Lea's Shield is created by her skill she's extremely comfortable in the Overworld overall Leila is a brilliant character who thrives in her Niche and I absolutely adore her she is the personification of exhausted University students and my only regret for her is that the growth she shows in her hangout is arguably not Cannon for teams which benefit from a shielder she's absolutely my first pick even ahead of Shan Lee and in terms of raw strength she's up there with him at the top of the list now I just want a similar pure shielder from all the other elements until next time [Music]
