hey guys welcome back to another episode of why everyone plays yes it's been over half a year since my last episode which i believe was dead i don't know i just didn't feel like it was as fun to make videos on popular champs because everyone already knows why people play them they're strong they're fun they got some kind of broken bs that gives you free low the usual but lately i've been getting a ton of comments asking me to reboot why everyone plays i decided i'll give it another go we'll see how well they do so if you like to see more episodes in the future then i'd appreciate it if you give this video a like really helps out the channel let's not waste any more time though and get right into talking about league of legends representation of the edgy teenager face we all went through in high school or some of you might be going through it right now viego the ruined king god this guy what an absolute mess of a champion you thought mordekaiser caused a lot of problems with the game but then viego had more bugs in one year than mordekaiser did in 10. anyways he's one of the newer champions released just a little over a year ago in fact but he's made quite an impression that's for sure a skirmishing jungler with the ability to transform into champions he takes down presents many many questions but one thing's for certain his introduction put 2020's lineup to shame and that's saying a lot i think it's safe to say raya took whatever cookie cutter stencils they had and threw them in the trash because now i don't think even they know what the rules for their game are anymore ever since he was released last year he's consistently held above a 10 pick rate for most of his life and in true 200 years fashion he started off very overtuned finding better success in solo lanes than the jungle where he was originally intended to be in even now after he's been knocked down a few pegs viego is a very common sight roughly 1 in every 8 to 10 games i would say and that number climbs higher the further you go up the ranking ladder people already can guess what the reasons attesting to his popularity are but i want to break down specifically what about him is so enticing a large part of it is due to the level of exposure he got much like how jonah was highlighted during the spirit blossom event viego also had a long spanning event of his own the ruination i'm not gonna go into the details about why i sucked i think enough youtubers talked about it already besides i talk about game design more than talk about lore so let's start by discussing his most controversial gameplay element his passive and how it ties to the rest of his play style if you were to examine all the pen to kill reset champs like master yi samira pike katarina darius and so on there's a way for each of them to completely fumble or miss timing which can ruin their chances of destroying the enemy team for darius and pike if they fail to deal the killing blow or miss their ultimate for samira she needs to build up style points again which usually takes at least a couple seconds katarina's ultimate can be cancelled thus temporarily halting her momentum either way contrary to what many people think each reset champion does have a window of vulnerability or a way to prevent them from resetting altogether viego not only has the most forgiving reset mechanic among his peers but he has the safest and most consistent chain killing condition as well whenever he takes the soul of an enemy champion he gets a free cast of heartbreaker independent from his own thus meaning he doesn't even need to use his ultimate or have it off cooldown to be able to cast it multiple times if he gets his hands on even one person that's all it takes to set off a domino effect of mass murder heartbreaker has a decent cast range of 500 and the effect radius covers a large area dealing percent missing health damage to the enemy champion with the lowest health that basically ensures you can't misclick with it but unlike pyke and darius who have to explicitly land the coup de gras to their ultimates viego can actually just use heartbreaker as a gap closer since the only condition required to reset his ultimate in air quotes is to not even score a kill but a takedown yes in theory if viego builds bramble vest and you auto attack him then you die within the next 3 seconds that 3 damage you took from bramble qualifies him to possess your soul and give him a free reset technically katarina and master yi also only require takedowns to deal damage but they have to put themselves in far greater risk to do so plus they don't get the same safety margin as him sovereign's domination has a one second untargetability window giving him time to reassess the situation and figure out what his next move is half the time you can't shut him down right away because he's impossible to hit katarina's whole risk and reward factor is that no matter how many times she gets a reset she is completely vulnerable the entire exchange a single stray morgana q or well-timed lissandra w nukes her pressure down to zero same with master yi he does have the same one second on target ability in alpha strike but there's a good one to two seconds before it comes back up since highlander only refunds 70 not a full reset viego doesn't get access to his free heartbreaker for one and a half seconds but heals a good chunk of health and gains three fresh abilities depending on which champion he stole that can easily buy him the time required for the lockout period upon which she can repeat the cycle again and again and again slayers in general are very high risk high reward if they fail their combos or miss timing it's very easy for you to turn the fight around against them viego doesn't have any condition at all you don't need to build stacks or set of daggers or kill someone in a set time frame he literally just has to damage an opponent to get the snowball going it's thanks to this that he has the undisputed best advantage state out of any champion in the game anyone and everyone i know i tend to speak in hyperboles but i don't think anyone doubts the sheer force at which vehicle overwhelms you just by getting a soul at the start of a fight reset after reset after reset while healing between each one while becoming untargetable for one second between each one the only way you can stop his rampage is by killing him outright if he's alive that means he's always a threat no matter what point in time or what the situation is against someone with resets you might think oh if they're really far behind that they're not that worrisome which is a fair point to make katarina isn't the scariest if she has only two items while everyone else has four common sense would assume the same conclusion can be made for viego who is also a slayer but regrettably even that doesn't apply to him viego is the only skirmisher in the game i repeat the only skirmisher who is dangerous no matter how weak he is because he can turn your own team's strength against you granted not at full capacity given he can't use their ultimates but since he acquires not only your abilities but your stats attacks and even your items being stronger than him is in some cases a detriment for your team remember all viego needs to do to activate sovereign's domination is to inflict damage to someone even 1 damage silas is notorious for being a huge counter to enemy teams with high value ultimates like malphite orianna fiddlestick's nunu to name a few and viego is the same for their basic abilities it does suck not being able to use their most powerful ability but some champs have very dangerous qs w's and or eaves he can assimilate camille and get access to a cho'gath for a q he can turn into jackson jump onto your team then stun everyone he can become blitzcrank and hook someone into his team forget how strong they are or how many items viego can essentially turn your own team's win condition against you think about it this is a champion who has access to almost 30 abilities each game at least 4 from each of your team plus zone 5 and sumner spells there's no limit to what his pressure ceiling is of course this also means you need to know what all 150 something champions do in the game and no offense but jungle mains have notoriously bad game knowledge so they may not know how to use the power he steals to its fullest effect true but the idea that he's able to do all of this is what draws people in there's endless playmaking potential with this guy and his base kit can set him up for those plays too i'm not saying a 1-9 viego is as dangerous as a 9-1 viego the weaker he is in his base form the harder it is for him to get that first soul and survive long enough to take it especially since he has a very bad disadvantage state to offset his borderline overpowered advantage that's sort of how it is for aggressive characters in general they can dish it out but they can't take it a lot of their abilities are geared more towards attacking not retreating even so that's a privilege only he has i can think of a mile long list of individual basic abilities that completely turn fights around wind wall rocket grab riposte whimsy miasma hollowed mist haymaker personal space pick a card event horizon there are so many that straight up carry team fights on their own that's what attributes to his popularity the most viego is an incredibly flexible champion with limitless possibilities just like how there's never a game where you have the exact same 10 champions with the exact same situations there will never be two games where he plays the exact same both experientially and practically this makes him an extremely fun champion to play as you'll never get bored of him you might be wondering what's the difference between experiential and practical experiential is as you can guess the experience of playing a champion how it feels to play them this is the number one aspect of a popular champion are they fun to play can they be used for a lot of situations do they have explosive playmaking potential red eclipse montages is there a big difference between a good player of that champ and a bad one and more importantly is there a tangible reward to mastering that champion viego is one of those champions people will always play no matter how weak he is because you can play a thousand no 10 000 games on him and not get bored i mean how can you he feels like a dlc character from smash bros with all these extra features now his base kit may not seem like much to write home about given how straightforward his q w and e are but when he transforms it's interesting to experiment with what works well in what circumstances he's normally a short range duelist but if he transforms to lee sin he has access to two long range dashes if he transforms into lulu suddenly he can support his team and keep them alive and the best part is he can discard his current form whenever he wants to you can transform into morgana throw a q give herself a black shield then alt back to your base form and now you have a target rooted in place for 3 seconds while you're immune to cc and have your normal abilities that applies to every champ with persistent effects one time i saw viego kill the enemy veigar drop event horizon then use heartbreaker to knock three members of the enemy team into the cage perimeter as much as i hate to admit it the benefit of stealing abilities is that you can mix and match them any way you like does it make for an incredibly overloaded champion absolutely but i'd be lying if i said it wasn't fun practical focus is on the actual gameplay details of the champion viego is a skirmisher and what a skirmish is known for their melee champions with high dps serviceable mobility and or tempo and reliance on auto attacks for the bulk of their damage one thing that sets him apart from traditional skirmishers is that he can front load his damage there are two types of unhit attackers the persistent and the burst persistent on hit would be someone like kog'maw whose normal combat is about applying on-hit effects over the course of a fight burst on hit would be champs who can apply multiple instances of on-hit effects in a very short period of time a good example would be fiora or kled fiora's standard burst combo is q auto blade work to reset then gore drinker before finishing with final auto that's four auto attacks in about one to two seconds clyde's violent tendencies is four attacks back to back to back with very high attack speed easiest way to put it is to compare the two keystone runes lethal tempo and hail blades one is for long drawn out fights the other is for quick hits viego's blade of the ruin king has a passive component that causes each of his attacks on hit to deal bonus current health damage reminiscent of the actual item blade of the ruined king which has the same effect he also strikes twice whenever landing q or w on a target a standard combo with vega would be auto w auto twice then q auto twice 5 attacks in a short period of time 5 on hit effects in about 2 seconds as the same as having 2.5 attack speed without needing 2.5 attack speed viego can easily shred through opponents with his attacks both tanks and squishies making him a solid fighter and sometimes assassin on occasion his different metrics also allow for multiple build paths there are three standard vehicle builds full crit with shield board crack and slayer essence reaver and infinity edge then there's on-hit effects with blade of ruin king wit's end and then bruiser build with divine sunderer all more or less equally viable that's because his hue and ultimate both increase in damage based on quick chance he has a low cooldown queue that synergizes ball with spellblade thus allowing for divine sunderer or essence reaver and he has a lot of percent health damage not to mention his passive abandoning his current build anyway so by building to her ability viego can withstand the heat of battle long enough to get souls and snowball a fight while he's not nearly as mobile as the likes of master yi he's far less conditional a straightforward rush downplay style or quick trades is good enough for him he doesn't have to commit too much to a fight if he doesn't want to whereas he does his base kit is simple but the number allocations allow him multiple build pets from his full crit damage to on hit duelist to bruiser each of them have ways to acquire souls more easily the more damage you do the easier it is to burst someone conversely the tankier you are the higher likelihood of surviving long enough for someone to die honestly the only thing keeping him from being flat out oppressive is his awful disadvantage state he plays very much like a strike first type champion if he's on the offensive he rips everyone to pieces but if you engage on him he doesn't quite have the same bs that other skirmishers do it's not like he can do 80 maxell true damage or become invincible for 5 seconds he takes a lot more patience and discipline to play well since his base kit lacks a lot of the traditional defensive measures i think viego will forever be one of those champions that are always popular he can be perma-heartstuck 46 win rate and people will still pick him up because the highs are so much better than the lows he's an easy jungler to pick up in the sense that his qwe and ultimate are very straightforward but his passive leads to a mountain of different combinations and scenarios other champions couldn't even dream of not sure if it's really healthy design though jana's issue is that he blatantly disregards the expected flaws the skirmisher is supposed to have low range and primarily single target damage given that all of his abilities are aoe and he can gap close on you from 90 miles away viego isn't too far off that either on his own yeah he's all single target doesn't have the worst mobility but certainly not the best and his range is low it's rather easy to kite him if you're playing a long range attacker but when you factor in his ability to transform into other champs suddenly his class-defining weaknesses are made null and void in my opinion it's a terrible idea to give skirmishers a recent mechanic because they already have such amazing uptime so you're giving them high burst potential on top of being able to chainsaw raises the few points for debate but then again this isn't about why viego is problematic i've made countless videos on that already this is about why everyone plays him and yeah a large part of why that is is because he's stupid broken so with that said what do you guys think about viego do you think he's fine as is or should he get nerfed into the ground with the rest of the 200 years chance let me know in the comments down below for now if you enjoyed the video it would be awesome if you gave it a like subscribe to the channel for more content like this consider following me on twitter and joining my discord server lastly check out my previous episodes of why everyone plays if you
