allow yourself to have the humility to be taught a lot of times people want to you know oh I'm going to do it on my own I'm going to be self-made I'm going to but no like why be self-made when we're supposed to be in community with other people why are we trying to be self-made when in reality being around other people benefits you more than it hurts you welcome guys to the channel today um the topic that I really want to speak on the most is mentorship and the importance of having somebody to be there as your Mentor as you are going along in your journey in whatever you're doing you know um for me it's cinematography um so of course you know starting this off I've seen that having somebody to teach you the way they did it or um the problems that they may have had or the things that they went through in their Journey can be almost as important as the journey itself um you'll be able to maybe even skip some steps or even maybe be able to see a problem that they faced or even have someone to ask hey I'm going through this what would you do if you went through this and just having that as a resource and a tool can for surely just like just Skyrocket what your goals are and and what you want to do now more than anything um I take this as values as at least for myself yesterday was probably one of the coolest days I've had in a really really long time yesterday we went and we filmed a tattoo artist bro when I tell you like just off the tips and little things that he was teaching us and telling us not only about composition about you know wide shots establishing shots close-ups and all these different things man they were things that I never even knew that I needed to do and from just you know being there and talking with him I literally learned all all new things that I'm even going to take with today on my shoot that I'm going on and we were there just you know talking about you know our Journeys and all these different things and then Carlos was just pouring into us like telling us his experience with certain things how you know certain situations impacted him and and the route that he took on specific instances and we were just able to ask questions and just continue to like learn more from him and that's why I say you know mentorship is super super super important honestly I was just I was just genuinely more so just like happy with what we were able to create what I was able to you know make but not only that like like I said before you know he was showing me different ways to shoot this different ways to make it interesting and one thing he told me the first time I met him was that he liked my portfolio but it lacks story most creative can uh understand where I'm coming from this you show somebody your project and they like oh my God that's so fire and you know kind of boost your ego up a little bit but honestly having a mentor and having somebody that's done this that's someone that's verse in this honestly like it can humble you and and the thing is to be mentored you need to be somewhat humble and you have to have a level of humility to take in the information that they're telling you whether you already knew it or whether you didn't um and that's something that I really took in and he told me he was like your stuff needs more story like I can see that you can capture nice shots but what's the story behind it cuz you can't have just nice shots with no story and so yesterday was kind of him giving me like a literal Hands-On walkr of like okay take this shot and get a wider establishing shot because this would be a cooler shot um and a lot of he said something to me that really stuck with me was that a lot of beginner filmmakers start with getting all the close-ups and they get so focused on the close-ups the close-ups the close-ups that they forget about the wide shots and if you look in different movies you can see that there's wide shots through out everything every every movie that you've probably ever seen there's wide shots that establish story feel and all these different things and it's really a necessity to whatever you're going to be filming anyways so he showed me that and it really stuck with me and I took a lot of things from yesterday that I thought I knew I thought I knew how to do this I thought I knew how to do certain things real life experience showed me that okay yeah I may know it but I don't know how to implement it and that's why it was so important you know for me to you know be able to be mentored and and stuff like that so I really thank him for the opportunity if you're watching this video thank you so much allow yourself to have the humility to be taught and watch how much your life will literally change from allowing yourself to be you know a lot of times people want to you know oh I'm going to do it on my own I'm going to be self-made I'm going to but no like why be self-made when we're supposed to be in community with other people why are we trying to be self-made when in reality being around other people benefits you more than it hurts you being around people is a net positive to your life so the main thing I wanted to share with everybody from allowing people to pour into me is that I've made strides and advances towards the dreams and the goals and aspirations that I want to have in my life so overall understand that you're not too big to be Mentor there's so much more that you could learn there's so much more things that you could gain especially in your life so thank you guys for watching this video honestly I wouldn't be able
