what do this creature bait this worm this frog this spinnerbait and this jig all have in common with one another well if it wasn't already obvious they're all about the same color some form of black and blue in today's video we're going to be talking about why the color black and blue catches so many bass and why you need to be throwing it if you're not already my name's tyler and let's talk about [Music] well how's it going everybody and welcome back to tyler's real fishing my goal here on this channel is to help you guys become better bass anglers and catch more fish so if that sounds like something you want to do hit that subscribe button leaving a like and a comment helps this channel grow so please do that as well but we're going to talk about the color black and blue i love black and blue you probably love black and blue and if you don't by the end of this video i think you will but before we hop into the content i have to thank the sponsor of today's video which is afco clothing you guys know i've worked with afco for almost five years at this point they make the best fishing clothes out there they are sun protective this one is the afco yuri it has a buff and a hoodie spf i believe 30 or 50 on this shirt they have so many cool things their fall and winter lines just dropped they got brand new sweatshirts brand new camo color patterns it is a really really cool brand and you can use code trf to say 15 on your order i wear afco everything my shorts my shirts my socks my underwear it's not weird it's good stuff it's only weird if the underwear are bad if they're not so thank you so much to avco for sponsoring this channel i say we talk about this glorious color which is black and blue no matter the lure type black and blue has always been and will always be an amazing color to catch bass you know i think back to when i first started bass fishing and i was looking up like lake records i would look up a lake record for lake travis what was it caught on it was caught on at least at that point black and blue worm you look at lake records really from all across the country and you notice one thing is in common a black and blue or a june bug some sort of dark colored worm catches giant bass everywhere and i guarantee if your grandpa is alive right now and he got you into fishing give him a call right now and ask him what is the best color soft plastic worm to throw i'm almost willing to bet you money he's gonna say some variation of black and blue but why is the color black and blue such a good color to catch bass on in my experience it is due to one factor and that is contrast the darker that you go on the fishing lure color spectrum the more contrast you're going to have in the water so take for example the black and blue if you stick that black and blue in any water clarity i'm talking from gin clear water to dirt dirt dirt oklahoma red river water you're going to be able to see at least the outline of this lure this soft plastic worm the spinnerbait the topwater whatever it is you're going to be able to see the outline of that lure but let's take the complete polar opposite of black and blue with a color on this side of the spectrum completely clear a ghost shad a smoky grey you stick that in a dirty water situation you will not be able to see the lure one iota in the exact same goes for the bass especially bass that use their eyes to feed they cannot see that lure at all so when it comes to throwing lures like a soft plastic worm a creature bait or even you know a jig they don't really have a whole lot of vibration to them the only one in this category that does would be a vibrating jig or this big colorado blade spinner bait and so when you're throwing a color in dirty water that's why anglers always talk about black and blue june bug any kind of darker variations motor oil those are going to be your better colors because it allows bass to see them now albeit bass in in dirty water do tend to use the sense of vibration and kind of you know how big the lure is to key in on it and eat it but that black and blue color definitely does help i've caught more fish and dirty water on black and blue than all other colors combined but at this point a lot of you guys might be saying amen tyler you are right black and blue is great in dirty water everybody should know that but one situation in which black and blue has an incredibly effective catch rate is actually in crystal clear water and you might be saying tyler hold up real quick you were told this in your last video on how to select lure colors then in clear water you want to go with the naturals the green pumpkin watermelon red more shad clear type variations and in most scenarios that is completely correct but no matter how clear the water is there are certain weather conditions and depth conditions that cause clear water to not be so clear but the biggest condition that affects the water visibility no matter the water clarity is going to be cloud the less sun that you have penetrating into your water i don't care how clear it is you're not going to have the maximum visibility so in the end of this video you're going to see several fish catches from table rock lake in branson missouri water clarity was i give it like 10 to 12 foot visibility where i was fishing if we have bright sunny conditions i could see all the way down to the bottom i could see rocks and crawfish and bait fish down there in 12 feet of water but as soon as we had a day of overcast and clouds and rain my water visibility went down to like a foot and a half or two feet the water clarity never changed the it's not like the the wind and rain and clouds brought in like a bunch of dirty muddy water i was fishing main lake docks as you'll see in this video but because light could not penetrate that clear water it made that clear water in a sense not so clear and all morning long i had a really tough time catching fish on the natural colors especially the bait fish colors when i was throwing a drop shot and i kept thinking why are these bass not hitting it they were hitting it the day before in the videos that i filmed why would they not hit it now and i thought to myself tyler you dummy the fish probably can't see them as well because one i was fishing a little bit deeper than i had so the deeper you are sun just can't penetrate there the visibility is lower and two i stuck my lure in the water my clear one and a foot down i couldn't even see it not because the water wasn't clear that was the complete opposite the water was so clear but because we didn't have enough light going into the water it made it not as clear for me which also made it not as clear and see-through for those bass especially who usually rely in that clear table rock water so much on their eyes to feed and so i switched to a black and blue jig and i think it was on like the third flip on this dock that you'll see i caught a fish and i proceeded in that entire pocket to catch three or four more fish on a black and blue outcast tackle cage fighter jig my favorite doc skipping jig in a color like i said black and blue that i normally never throw in that clarity of water now i'm not saying that when you have high sun you also can't catch them on black and blue that's possible there's you ask your grandpa he'll still tell you no matter the conditions no matter the weather no matter xyz black and blue is still a really good color and i'm not going to say you can't but if that weather changes and the visibility goes down your catch rate will go up by going back to the tried and true black and blue so with all that said i say we head out in the water and show you guys some of those fish catches that i was talking about and if this topic piques your interest all about you know how to select the right color lures whether it's soft plastics jigs moving baits like crank baits or vibrating jigs i have an awesome video that i will
