original in the world of electric guitars I can't help you but also today I'm checking out the Yamaha refstar rss-02t standard and Swift blue also this might be the truly unique and original guitar you're looking for I can't speak for you but you know everybody's got their own situation but to me this is new and unique yeah let's check it out super thanks to Yamaha Canada they sent me this guitar to have and review and this is a sponsored video but as always I always say this all the thoughts and opinions are my own they didn't even tell me to say that part or did they so this is still a hot item how's it showing up there Yamaha wanted me to check this out last year but they couldn't they had to fulfill back orders and they're just catching up now so that's great to hear it's doing really well and it's super popular and everything I've heard about it has been positive anyways let's start with my initial reactions when I unbox these these Superstars I don't know what I said I made some notes like I wrote down some things when I first when I first thought when I opened it so later I'll go over my pros and cons and you can see if anything changes from my initial thoughts I thought I thought I thought I thought this would be cool to do and you know see how it goes so from my initial thoughts First Impressions I was really surprised when I opened up the box to find a pack with a great gig back like a really good gig bag let's say this is one of the top gig bags I've seen and I had no idea what came with one so that really impressed me and the overall fit and finish is really really nice the select your Suite selector switch selector switch field chip select your switch felt cheap pots feel good good nice setup cool neck totally unique feeling Frets can use some smoothing and it's a great weight so that's my initial thoughts those are the notes that I wrote down I'm not going to comment on what uh What uh I don't know what I'm saying so yeah anyways let's check let's check out the full specs and then we'll hear it here here how it sounds because it's a guitar all right spec wise some very unique features let's start with the neck 24.75 inch scale length so it's a shorter scale length PPS nut you see you say PPS or PPS you can decide a three piece carbon reinforced mahogany set neck 12 inch radius rosewood fretboard with 22 jumbo stainless steel Frets and that's pretty cool let's get some neck measurements while I have your attention so we're just going to grab them here I'm going to get the the nut the pp's nut PPS I'm sure that that stands for something important if you look it up and then we'll check at the different levels at the you know going down the neck and then the thickness too and uh people want to know like how does it feel in your hand um it's just uh you know I don't have huge hands but I don't have small hands feels wide it's pretty wide and not super chunky but a good size I don't know if that helps um kind of looks like a d or C shape sort of I think they have the uh the neck shape if they say it's a refstar neck shape I believe when I when I was looking at the specs so that didn't really mean anything to me anyways um let's keep going chambered mahogany body which helps reduce the weight in fact here's the weight right now let's put on the scale let's measure it up that's a good weight that's that's really nice so I'm guessing it'll be pretty heavy if it didn't have the chambered and this one is Swift blue how's that look polyurethane finish it feels awesome like the finish on this guitar and yeah The Binding all awesome tuna Matic Bridge with a racing tail piece so you can drive your little dinky cars off the edge I don't know now let's talk about the controls and the switching because this is where things get really really unique and interesting one master volume one master tone the tone is also I'll show talking with Sean Connery today the uh clicky click the tone is also a push-pull focus switch I'll explain that in a second five-way blade switch and you're like five wave what it's only got two pickups I will demo all the tonal options but when I first saw it I was like five with two pickups I was confused I was really confused but let's take a look inside to see the wiring it's a five-way super switch and it's not a cheap PCB switch like I thought it was it felt like one to me I guess it's just the rod but no it's actually flying and you can see the pots and the wiring nothing super special there but uh the tone knob when you pull it acts as a passive mid boost and they call it the focus switch so you have five initial tones tonal options right and then when you double that with the focus switch for ten two times five is ten I'm really good at math that's nuts when we hear it after you'll see on screen what the switch is doing and like what selector option I've picked and hopefully you can hear all the differences so what are the pickups two times vp5 and amnico 5 single coil P90 pickups let's measure the resistance of the pickups and plug it in and go through all 10 options enjoy that while I just mudder on and talk about nothing hey how's it going there so foreign [Music] [Music] s are going to be captured through this Princeton reverb that has a 12 inch cannabis Rex speaker and I'm using a Sennheiser e906 microphone here's a full explanation of the controls so you can see there's five selector options one to five one being in the neck five being in the bridge and the different options and depending if you have the tone knob pulled or pushed so as I'm playing the different samples I will display on screen which number I'm in one to five and which tone knob option [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] while so I mentioned uh I did the first impressions at the beginning those were my notes when I initially opened it after having some time with it we had a nice dinner last night and I'll walk along the Frozen River I prefer to go on a beach but it's winter but seriously I was wrong about the cheap switch being cheap it actually isn't so you know I usually guess when a cheap PCB switch is a cheap one I was wrong so I guess gotta re-evaluate my life I guess so overall I love this guitar if you bought one and you're still waiting for it I hope you like it it's truly unique it's uh it's a guitar to check out for sure if you're looking for something new let's go over what I think now that I've played it for a while tuners good neck good the weight is good the tones are good pots are good the Frets I polished them a little bit so not good uh not a deal breaker overall fit and finish and value excellent and this is the standard so I can't even imagine the uh the pro I'm not even sure what it's called I have to look that up uh great guitar worth the wait this one is made in Indonesia I didn't mention that they also have the higher end made in Japan and uh I'd love to check one out see what the difference is someday if you want to get one or any Yamaha stuff I've got I've got Yamaha I've got Yamaha in my brain I've got affiliate links from all over the world Sweetwater guitar center
